在速食店里,店员问“for here or to go?”
“Drop me a line!”
What’s up!”你可别说“I am fine!”
Pull over!
Drop me a line!
Give me a ring = Call me! For here or to go?
Cool:That’s cool!
What’s up? = What’s happening?=What’s new? 见面时随囗问候的话“最近在忙什么?有什么新鲜事吗?”一般的回答是“Nothingmuch!”或“Nothing new!”Cut it out! = Knock it out!= Stop it! 少来这一套!同学之间开玩笑的话。
Don’t give me a hard time! Get yourself together! Do you have "the" time?
Hang in there. = Don’t give up. = Keep trying.
Give me a break!
1. give me a hand美国人经常说:"Give me a hand."
3. blow outWe arrived two hours late at the big blow-out for Charle's birthday because our car had a blow-out.
Title: A Potluck Gathering: Bringing People Togetherwith Food。
In today's fast-paced world, finding time to connectwith friends and loved ones can be a challenge. However, one activity that has stood the test of time in fostering camaraderie and building bonds is gathering for a potluck meal. Potluck gatherings provide an opportunity for individuals to come together, each bringing a dish to share, creating a diverse and delicious feast. In this essay, we will explore the significance of potluck gatherings and the role they play in strengthening relationships. To begin with, potluck gatherings promote inclusivity and diversity. When each participant brings a dish fromtheir own cultural background or personal favorite recipes, it creates a culinary tapestry that reflects the rich diversity of the group. Whether it's a traditional family recipe passed down through generations or a new fusion dishinspired by global cuisines, every contribution adds a unique flavor to the gathering. This diversity not only tantalizes the taste buds but also fosters an appreciation for different culinary traditions and cultural heritage. Moreover, potluck gatherings encourage collaboration and teamwork. Planning and organizing a potluck require coordination among participants to ensure a balanced meal with a variety of dishes. From appetizers and main courses to desserts and beverages, everyone plays a part in creating a memorable dining experience. This collaborative effort not only lightens the workload for the host but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility and cooperation among attendees. Through the act of coming together to share food, individuals learn the value of teamwork and cooperation, skills that are invaluable both in social settings and professional environments.Furthermore, potluck gatherings serve as a platform for culinary creativity and experimentation. For many participants, potlucks offer an opportunity to showcase their cooking skills and creativity in the kitchen. Whetherit's experimenting with new ingredients, refining old recipes, or putting a unique twist on a classic dish, potlucks provide a supportive environment for culinary exploration. Participants can receive feedback and appreciation for their creations, encouraging them to further hone their culinary talents. Additionally, the exchange of recipes and cooking tips during the gathering fosters a sense of learning and growth, inspiring participants to continue expanding their culinary repertoire.Beyond the food itself, potluck gatherings facilitate meaningful social interactions and connections. Breaking bread together has long been recognized as a symbol ofunity and friendship. Sharing a meal creates a relaxed and convivial atmosphere where people can engage in conversation, share stories, and forge new friendships. Whether it's catching up with old friends, bonding with colleagues outside the workplace, or getting to know neighbors better, potluck gatherings provide a conducive environment for building and strengthening relationships. In today's digital age, where face-to-face interactions areincreasingly rare, potlucks offer a welcome opportunity to disconnect from screens and connect with others on a more personal level. In conclusion, potluck gatherings are much more thanjust a meal; they are a celebration of food, friendship, and community. By bringing together individuals fromdiverse backgrounds to share their culinary creations, potlucks promote inclusivity, collaboration, creativity, and social connection. Whether it's a small gathering among friends or a large community event, the spirit ofgenerosity and sharing that defines potlucks serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together, supporting one another, and celebrating the richness of human connection. So, the next time you receive an invitation toa potluck, remember to bring your appetite and a dish to share, because the true joy of a potluck lies not just inthe food, but in the company of those with whom we share it.。

Last weekend, my family had a traditional gathering for dinner. It was a potluck, so everyone brought a dish to share. There was so much food on the table, it was hard to decide where to start. The atmosphere was lively, with everyone chatting and laughing. It was great to catch up with relatives that I hadn't seen in a while. We shared stories and jokes, and it felt like we were all connected despite our busy lives. The food was amazing, with a mix of traditional dishes and modern favorites. From grandma's secret recipe for braised pork to my aunt's famous macaroni and cheese, there was something for everyone. I couldn't resist going backfor seconds (and maybe even thirds). After we finished eating, we played some traditional games together. It was a great way to bond and have some fun. I hadn't realized how competitive my family could be,but it was all in good spirits and we had a lot of laughs. As the evening came to a close, we all gathered for a group photo. It was a great way to capture the memories of the evening and I know I'll cherish that photo for years to come. I'm already looking forward to the next family gathering.。
Food is something that brings people together. Whether it's a family gathering, a dinner party with friends, or just sharing a meal with a colleague at work, food has the power to create connections and build relationships. One way that people share food is through potlucks. Potlucks are gatherings where each person brings a dish to share with the group. This is a great way to try new foods and share your own cooking skills with others. I love attending potlucks because it's a chance to taste a variety of dishes and learn from other people's cooking styles.Another way that people share food is by cooking for others. For example, if a friend is going through a tough time, I might offer to bring them a home-cooked meal. This is a way to show my support and care for them, while also sharing my love of cooking.Food can also be a way to connect with people from different cultures. Trying new foods and learning about different cuisines is a great way to broaden your horizons and gain a deeper appreciation for other cultures. I've had the opportunity to try foods from all over the world, and each time I do, I feel like I'm learning something new and exciting. In conclusion, food is a powerful tool for bringing people together and building relationships. Whether it's through potlucks, cooking for others, or trying new foods from different cultures, food has the ability to create connections and foster understanding.

MisunderstandingI was having a conversation with a friend about food and he was telling me how fond he was of Western food. At one point, however, he said something that sounded like, “I really like pizza pizza.” It would be like a westerner saying “I like dumplings dumplings.” The problem was poor pronunciation. What the student really want to say was, “I really like a piece of pizza.”Some People Will Eat AnythingI often eat Chinese food when I was young in Canada. I made several dishes, one of which was a “salad”. Most of my friends liked but one person was curious and asked, “Who cooked this salad?” The correct answer is that no one “cooked” the salad because salads are “raw”.potluck指的是美国一种经常举行的聚会形式,也就是在某一个人或几个人的提议下举行一个午餐会或晚餐会,但是参加聚会的每个人都要带一个菜或者带一种饭后甜食。

For our upcoming gathering, I propose organizing a potluck dinner
at my place. Each attendee can bring a dish to share, showcasing their culinary skills and adding variety to the menu. To make the event more engaging, we can plan some fun activities, such as board games or a karaoke session. Additionally, we can have a "secret Santa" gift exchange to add a festive touch to the gathering. It would be great to spend quality time together, catching up on each other's lives and creating lasting memories.

他们是这样说的: "It goes in one ear and out the other."

这就叫做:Potluck lunch or potluck supper。
Potluck
Come into the house and take potluck with me.
Say, Charley, if you don't have plans for tonight, why don't you come out to our house and have a potluck with us? Helen won't have time to cook anything special, but she can put an extra plate on the table for you.
