How We Form First Impression1 We all have first impression of someone we just met. But why? Why do we form an opinionabout someone without really knowing anything about him or her-aside perhaps from a fewremarks or readily observable traits.2 The answer is related to how your brain allows you to be aware of the world. Your brainis so sensitive in picking up facial traits, even very minor difference in how a person’seyes, ears, nose, or mouth are placed in relation to each other make you see him or her asdifferent. In fact, your brain continuouslyprocesses information—the sights and sounds of your world. These incoming “signals” are compared against a host of “memories” stored in the brain areas called the cortex system to determine what these new signals “mean.”3 If you see someone you know and like at school, your brain says “familiar and safe.” Ifyou see someone new, it says, “new—potentially threatening.” Then your brain starts tomatch features of this stranger with other “known” memories. The height, weight, dress, ethnicity, gestures, and tone of voice are all matched up. The more unfamiliar thecharacteristies, the more your brain may say, “This is new. 1 don’t like this person.” or else, “I’m intrigued.” Or your brain may perceive a new face but familiar clothes, ethnicity, gestures—like your other friends; so your brain say, “I like this person.” Butthese preliminary “impressions” can be dead wrong.4 When we stereotype people, we use a less matureform of thinking (not unlike theimmature thinking of a very young child) that makes simplistic and categorical impressions of others. Rather than learn about the depth and breadth of people—their history, interest, values, strengths, and true character—we categorize them as jocks, geeks, or freaks.5 However, if we resist initial stereotypical impressions, we have a chance to be aware of what a person is truly like. If we spend time with a person, hear about his or her life, hopes, dreams, and become aware of the person’s character, we use a different, more mature style of thinking-and the most complex areas of our cortex, which allow us to be humane.23 Paragraph 2 ________24 Paragraph 3 ________25 Paragraph 4 ________26 Paragraph 5 ________A Ways of Departure from Immature and Simplistic ImpressionsB Comment on First ImpressionC Illustration of First ImpressionD Comparing Incoming Sensory Information Against MemoriesE Threatening Aspect of First ImpressionsF Differences Among Jocks, Geeks and Freaks27 Sensory information is one that is perceived through ________.28 You interpret ________ by comparing it against the memories already stored in yourbrain.29 The way we stereotype people is a less mature form of thinking, which is similar to________.30 We can use our more mature style of thinking thanks to ________.A a stranger’s less mature type of thinkingB the most complex areas of our cortexC the immature form of thinking of a very young childD the meaning of incoming sensory informationE the sights and sounds of the worldF an opportunity to analyze different forms of thinking。

1.A new system of quality control was brought in to overcome the defects in the firm’s products.A.investedB.introducedC.installedD.insisted正确答案:B解析:借助划线短语核心词(bring)的基本含义“带来,引起”,并借助与划线结构相直接相关的结构含义“质量控制系统被……”判断B(引进)是答案。

该句含义是“将引进一种新的质量控制系统以克服公司产品出现的缺陷。

”invest “(常与in连用)投入(资金、精力、时间等)”;insist“(常与on,that连用)主张;坚持,坚持要求(宾语从句跟虚拟语气结构)”。

2.The old concerns lose importance and some of them vanish altogether.A.developB.disappearC.linkD.renew正确答案:B解析:and的使用表明前后两个结构是在语法结构对称,且含义上色彩一致,这样排除A(“发展”和“失去重要性”在词义色彩上相反)和D(renew=re +new “re”表示“再次”),所以可推出renew是“更新”。

借助句意判断disappear(消失)是答案。

该句含义是“旧的公司失去了它们的重要性,而其中的一些公司完全消失了。

”link“(常与together, to,with连用)连接”。

3.There is always excitement at the Olympic Games when an athlete breaks a previous record of performance.A.beatsB.matchesC.maintainsD.announces正确答案:A解析:break有多种含义,即“打破,违犯,折断,超过”,而选项中只有A 有“打”的含义,所以判断beat是答案。

Many people thought this was a good plan. They began to give their money to Ponzi. How could Ponzi make so much money for people? This is what he did with the money people gave him:He used some of that money to pay other people who gave him money. However, he also kept a lot of the money for himself.Soon he had $250 million. This was a kind of theft, and it was against the law.The people who gave him their money didn’t think anything was wrong.Ponzi paid them every month.just like a bank.Ponzi continued this way of working for two years. Then one day, he didn’t have enough money to pay all the people. They discovered his crime.and he went to prison for fraud.Ninety years later, people began to hear about a businessman in New York named Bernard Mad off.People said he gave good advice about money. They said when they gave him their money.he paid them a lot more thanthe bank.Mad off helped hospitals, schools, and individuals earn money.Over a period of 40 years.people gave him $170 billion. However, no one investigated what he did with the money. The people who gave Madoff their money also didn’t think anything was wrong because he paid them every month. One day, Madoff didn’t have enough money to pay all the people he needed to pay. That’s when people discovered how Madoff worked:He was taking money from some people to pay other people, just the way Chades Ponzi did. However, this time, instead of losing millions of dollars.people lost billions.Madoff was accused of fraud, and United States government officials arrested him.He didn’t have to go on trial because he said he was guilty. In 2009,a judge sentenced him to 150 years in prison.Bernard Madoff’s crime was even bigger than Ponzi’s.It was the biggest fraud in history. The lesson of this story isclear:When something seems too good to be true,it probably is!41 For every $100,Ponzi promised to pay people .A $5 a yearB $20 a yearC $40 a yearD $100 a year42 What did Ponzi do with the money people gave him?A He spent it all on things for himself.B He deposited it all in a bank.C He kept it all to save for a good plan.D He used some of it to pay other people.43 What was Ponzi’s crime?A He kept a lot of other people’s money for himself.B He robbed the banks of millions of dollars.C He gave people more than the bank did.D He did not pay people their interests.44 How long did Madoff’s tricks last?A Four year.B Nine years.C Forty years.D Ninety years.45 Why didn’t Madoff have to go on trial?A The officials couldn’t find any evidence against him.B He admitted he was guilty.C He had friends in the govemment who helped him.D He returned all the illegal money.第5部分:补全短文(第46-50题,每题2分,共l0分)下面的短文有5处空白,短文后有6个句子,其中5个取自短文,请根据短文内容将其分别放回原有位置,以恢复文章原貌.Forests for CitiesYou are standing in a beautiful forest in Japan. The air is clean and smells like plants and flowers. There are l75 different kinds of trees, and 60 kinds of birds live here.(46)You are downtown in the city of Nara,Japan,in Kasugayama Forest, the oldest urban forest in the world. It was started more than a thousand years ago,and today it's very popular with tourists and artists.Cities around the world are working to protect their urban forests. Some urban forests are parks, and some are just streets with a lot of trees. But all urban forests have many good effects on the environment.(47)They also stop the noise from heavy traffic. They even make the weather better because they make the air 3-5 degrees cooler, and they stop strong winds.Urban forests also have many good effects on people. They make the city more beautiful. In a crowded area, they give people a place to relax and spend time in nature.(48)In some countries, people are starting new urban forests. In England, there are now 1.3 million trees in an urban forest called Thames Chase, east of London. It was started in 1990,and it has grown very fast. 2012职称英语测试卫生类C级模拟考题二(2)

2012职称英语测试卫生类C级模拟考题二(2)二、阅读判断Vocational EducationVocational education refers to education for a particular occupation, industrialized countries have seen a fall in demand for unskilled workers, and an increase in jobs in the professional, technical, commercial and administrative sector. Vocational education is traditionally associated with trades and crafts: young people were apprentice to employers for a number of years and learned on the job. Today the focus has shifted from the workplace to secondary and higher education institutions and from employers’ to government provision and finance. Trainees in most occupations combine workplace training with study at a technical or academic institution. In the former Soviet Union, school and work were always strongly linked from primary school. Germany provides nine outof ten young people not entering higher education with vocational training, and training is planned from national down to locate level through joint committees of government representatives, employers and trade unions. In some countries, skills are being grouped and “job families” created so that individuals can move between jobs with similar technical requirements. In others “competency-based education” is advocated to equip individua ls with “transferable” as well as specific skills. In developing countries, where it is traditional for children to work form an early age, only a tiny proportion of students follow a formal vocational program, while the long specialist training of professionals such as doctors, lawyers and engineers is a costly burden. Training places for technicians, nurses, teachers and the essential workers are often limited. Worldwide, there is a slow but steady increase in the numbers of women training for occupations of influence in science, technology, law and business. It is also becoming clear that one course of vocational education is not enough for a lifetime. Retraining through continuing education is essential.16.Vocational education refers to education fora usual vocation.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned17.So far as vocational training is concerned, industrialized countries need more workers for jobs in the professional sector.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned18.It is stated in the passage that the two major changes in vocational education are in the place and the source of finance it is provided.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned19.In the former Soviet Union, school and work were always weakly linked from primary school.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned20.In Germany, vocational education is the one that everybody can take voluntarily.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned21.In some countries, in order to help people to become capable of taking different jobs, different skills within a broad category are taught.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned22.It can be concluded from the passage that more vocational education has to be provided in the future.A.RightB.WrongC.Not mentioned。
