Foreign students who study in the United States benefit a lot from the educational system of the United States.Three developments in the United States higher education that the students are benefiting from today started more than a century ago following the Civil War. The first of these was the rapid growth of the technological and professional education to meet the urgent demands of a complex industrial and urban society. New schools of technology, engineering, architecture, law and medicine flourished. The second was the provision for graduate study, such as what had long existed in France and Germany. Harvard and John Hopkins Universities quickly took the lead in this field, but the state universities did not lag far behind. The third was the increased provision for the education of women. This included the establishment of new women's colleges, such as Vassar, Wellesley and Smith, and the adoption ofco-education in all the new state universities outside the South as well as in many private institutions: Thesedevelopments, the growth of the technological and professional education, the provision for graduate study, and the increased educational opportunities for women began over a century ago, well over thirteen decades since the end of the Civil War.Exercises with Key1. 摇滚音乐 英语作文
摇滚音乐英语作文Rock Music。
Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, a style which drew heavily on the African-American genres of blues and rhythm and blues, and from country music. Rock music also drew on a number of other influences, including folk, jazz, and classical music. The sound of rock music is centered around the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with bass guitar and drums. The music is often accompanied by lyrics sung by a vocalist. Rock music typically uses a strong back beat, and often includes electric guitar solos and power chords.Rock music has been a major cultural force throughoutthe world, and has had a profound impact on popular music. In the 1960s, rock music became the voice of a generation, with bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who leading the way. The 1970s saw the rise of hard rock and heavy metal, with bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple dominating the charts. In the 1980s, rock music continued to evolve, with the emergence of punk and new wave, and the rise of iconic bands like The Clash, The Ramones, and U2.Rock music has also been a source of controversy and rebellion. In the 1950s, rock and roll was seen as a threat to traditional values, and was often banned from the airwaves. In the 1960s, rock music became associated with the counterculture movement, and was seen as a symbol of rebellion against the establishment. Even today, rock music continues to push boundaries and challenge societal norms. One of the most enduring aspects of rock music is its ability to connect with people on a deep emotional level. The raw energy and passion of rock music has the power to inspire and uplift, and has been a source of solace forcountless fans. The lyrics of rock songs often deal with themes of love, loss, and longing, and resonate with listeners on a personal level. In conclusion, rock music is a powerful and influential genre that has had a profound impact on popular culture. Its roots in blues and folk music, combined with its rebellious spirit and emotional depth, have made it a timeless and enduring art form. Whether it's the classic rock of the 1960s, the hard rock of the 1970s, or the alternative rock of today, rock music continues to evolve and inspire new generations of fans. As long as there are electric guitars and passionate musicians, rock music will continue to be a vital force in the world of music.。

我最喜欢的艺术形式摇滚乐英语作文全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Favorite Art Form: Rock MusicIf you ask me what my favorite art form is, I won't hesitate for a second before blurting out "rock music!" To me, rock is so much more than just a genre of popular music. It's a culture, a way of life, and an expression of freedom and rebellion that has captivated and inspired generations. From the moment I first heard the raw, gritty riffs and primal drumbeats of bands like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, I was hooked. There's just something so viscerally thrilling about rock's aggressive sound and anti-authoritarian attitude. It's music made by dropouts and misfits who dared to buck the system and blaze their own trail. But rock is about more than just making noise and sticking it to the man. At its core, it's an intensely creative and innovative art form that has pushed boundaries and reinvented itself decade after decade. Think about how hugely varied the "rock" category is - it encompasses everything from the blues-soakedrecords of old-school pioneers like Muddy Waters to the glamor and excess of '80s hair metal to the grungy, lo-fi sound of '90s alt-rock and so much more. What all the great rock bands have in common is a sense of freedom and experimentation. They blended and merged disparate genres, techniques, and instruments to create bold new hybrids that kept their music fresh and exciting. The best rock artists are also incredible poets and storytellers who tap into the core of the human experience with their lyrics about life, love, struggle, and finding your identity. To me, rock has always been about pushing boundaries and refusing to conform. It's punk rock icons like The Clash snarling their anti-establishment anthems. It's risky concept albums like Pink Floyd's "The Wall" that tackle big, complex themes. It's groups like Rage Against the Machine blending rap influences with crushing metal riffs to deliver a powerfully political message. This daring, convention-defying spirit is what draws me to the art form.On a personal level, rock has been the soundtrack to so many pivotal moments in my life. Those first few choruses of Guitar Hero that sparked my lifelong love for the genre. Grungy playlists that got me through the angst of my teenage years. Myfirst time crowd-surfing at a Foo Fighters show (scary but exhilarating!). Road trips where my friends and I would roll down all the windows and blast our favorite albums at top volume. Quiet nights alone where a melancholic rock ballad felt like the only thing that could soothe my heartache.Rock has been there for my highest highs and lowest lows. And that's because it's perhaps the most visceral, emotional style of music out there. The best rock songs are cathartic explosions of joy, anger, passion, and pain. When I'm furious at the world, I can immerse myself in Metallica's thunderous thrash metal and let out my aggression through the sheer force of the sound. When I'm feeling tender and introspective, I can let the soaring melodies and poetic lyrics of classic rock ballads like "Stairway to Heaven" wash over me.More than anything though, I'm drawn to rock because of the powerful sense of community and belonging it has always engendered. In an age where we're increasingly isolated from one another, rock shows and festivals are like a modern tribal gathering. When I'm packed into a sweaty club with hundreds of other long-haired, wild-eyed fanatics, all of us screaming along in unison to the same anthems, I feel an overwhelming sense ofconnection. We may be strangers, but in that moment we're united by our shared passion and energy. That anarchic, celebratory atmosphere is something I've always craved as an escape from the monotony and conformity of everyday life. At rock concerts, none of society's rules seem to apply. It's a rowdy, lawless space where you can be as weird, loud, and authentic as you want. You're free to cut loose and express yourself in a way that would get you locked up anywhere else!In that sense, rock has been a form of rebellion for me, even if my particular act of defiance is just throwing up the horns and rocking out like a maniac. It's a way to assert my identity and blow off steam in our increasingly regimented, sanitized world. The punk-inspired ethos of individuality, authenticity, and challenging the status quo is something that still feels vitally important, especially for someone like me who grew up as an outsider. That freewheeling, anti-establishment spirit; that air of danger and rule-breaking; that euphoric sense of belonging...that's the essence of rock that keeps me utterly devoted and passionate about the art form. Sure, some music snobs will turn up their noses and write off rock as just "a bunch of noise." But they're missing the point entirely. Rock has alwaysbeen about so much more than what you hear - it's a way of life, a worldview, and a source of identity and catharsis for generations of misfits and free spirits. While some musical styles leave me cold with their sterile overproduction and artistic constraints, rock still feels vital, raw, and uncompromising to me. It's kept its revolutionary spirit and power to move people on a gut level even as its sounds and styles have constantly evolved. Like the greats before them, modern torchbearers like Royal Blood are still finding new ways to channel that primal scream of pure, uncut expression. So that's why I will always be obsessed with this incredible art form. Rock isn't just my favorite genre of music...it's my way of life. It's the ears I use to hear the world, the lens I use to understand myself and question everything around me. To me, rock isn't just an art, but a way of engaging with life itself in an intense, authentic way. So you can keep your concertos and string quartets - I'll be busy head-banging and crowdsurfing at rock's modern sonic revolutionaries!篇2My Favorite Art Form: Rock MusicRock music isn't just a genre or a style of music to me - it's an entire culture, lifestyle, and art form that I'm completely obsessed with. From the raw energy and emotion to the creativity and self-expression, rock speaks to me on a deep level that no other music can. It's a world I've been drawn into ever since I was a kid, one that continues to inspire me to this day.I still vividly remember the first time I truly experienced the power of rock. I was probably around 10 years old, and my older cousin let me listen to some of his favorite bands on his beaten up old radio - AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Metallica. The sheer force of the distorted guitars, pounding drums, and powerful vocals completely blew me away. This was like nothing I'd heard from the pop and dance music on the radio. The intensity, attitude, and passion behind the music moved something deep inside me.I felt so alive and energized listening to it.From that point on, I became obsessed with rock, devouring every album, song, and band I could get my hands on. I learned everything there was to know about the history and evolution of the genre, from its roots in blues, rockabilly, and rock and roll to its branching into hard rock, punk, metal, and all the varied subgenres. But rock wasn't just a musical interest for me - it was a total lifestyle. The fashion, with its leather jackets, ripped jeans, bandt-shirts, and wild hairstyles immediately appealed to me as this bold, in-your-face way of rebelling against societal norms. The idea of rocking out on the guitar as a form of self-expression resonated deeply. And the overall culture of individuality, fighting against authority, and not giving a damn what anyone thinks - that was something I wanted to be a part of.As I grew up, my obsession with rock only intensified. I started a band with some friends in high school, and we'd spend hours jamming together after class, working on original songs and covers of our favorite bands. The rush of playing those powerful chords and shredding on the guitar is something I'll never forget. Rock became my greatest creative outlet, a way to channel my thoughts, emotions, and teenage angst into something raw yet beautiful. On a deeper level though, what really solidified my love for rock was the way it gave me a community and real sense of belonging. The rock scene, whether it was going to local shows, festivals, or meeting up with other fans, provided me with this incredible network of people who just got it. We may have looked different on the outside, but we were all united by ourpassion for the music and the culture surrounding it. Rock formed the core of my identity during those formative years.Of course, I don't just love rock for its sound, culture, and community - I'm in awe of it as a true art form as well. To me, the most legendary rock bands weren't just great musicians, they were artists in the purest sense. They could take those basic elements of guitars, bass, drums, and vocals, and craft them into these incredible sonic landscapes that told a story, expressed complex emotions, and provided a window into different perspectives. Just listen to songs like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd, or "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses - each one is a miniature masterpiece in its own right. And the live performances - there's nothing quite like the experience of seeing a great rock band perform right in front of you. The sheer power, energy, and raw passion they summon forth is like a religious experience. Whether it's the epic guitar solos that seem to transcend the physical world, the soulful vocal melodies that send shivers down your spine, or just the pure unrestrained intensity of it all, it's an artistic demonstration like nothing else. Every time I attend a killer rock concert, I walk away feeling electrified and utterly inspired.Rock is more than just music to me though - it's a philosophy and way of life that I aspire to. The spirit of rock is all about rebelling against restrictive norms and forging your own path. It's about expressing yourself authentically without holding back. It's about turning up the volume toungodly levels and drowning out all the noise and negativity of the world, if only for a brief moment. In many ways, rock truly captures the chaos, passion, and beautiful madness of the human experience. That's why rock will always be my number one art form and greatest love. Yeah, musicianship and technical skill are obviously important elements. But what really elevates rock to an art is the way it taps into those primordial urges we all have - the need to shout at the top of our lungs, shake everything up, kick back against a rigid society, and pour our very soul out in the most visceral yet creative way possible.I can still remember playing the opening chords of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in my high school band's garage, feeling that power and intensity rumbling through every bone in my body. Or going to see my first Metallica show and being blown away by the heavy, almost spiritual experience of 50,000 fans headbanging together to "Master of Puppets." Or even listening to Jack White shred out an incredible guitar solo in "Blue Orchid"on my headphones while doodling in class. Moments like these are seared into my mind and soul. This is the true essence of rock, the reason I'll never stop craving that rush of energy and creative expression. For me, and so many others, rock isn't just a genre or a fad - it's a way of life, a unifying culture, a artistic movement, and one of the most unique mediums for channeling the full depth of the human experience. It's passion and creativity amplified to aroof-raising level. And I'll never stop being obsessed with it.篇3My Favorite Art Form: Rock MusicWhen it comes to artistic expression, few genres can match the raw power and energy of rock music. As a student, I find rock to be the perfect outlet for channeling the angst, rebellion, and passion that often accompany the tumultuous years of youth. From the moment I first heard the opening riffs of a classic rock anthem, I was hooked – drawn in by the electrifying guitar solos, the pounding rhythms, and the unapologetic lyrics that spoke to the very core of my being.Rock music is a versatile art form, encompassing a wide range of subgenres, each with its own distinct sound and culturalsignificance. From the gritty, blues-infused tones of classic rock to the adrenaline-fueled frenzy of punk rock, and the progressive, experimental realms of alternative rock, the genre offers something for every taste and mood.At its essence, rock music is a rebellion against conformity, a defiant expression of individuality and a celebration of the unconventional. Its origins can be traced back to the 1950s, when young musicians in the United States and the United Kingdom began fusing elements of blues, country, and rhythm and blues, creating a new sound that would eventually captivate generations of listeners. One of the aspects that I find most compelling about rock music is its ability to articulate the raw emotions and experiences of youth in a way that resonates deeply with its audience. From the angst-ridden anthems of grunge bands like Nirvana to the heart-wrenching ballads of emo icons like My Chemical Romance, rock music has a knack for giving voice to the trials and tribulations of adolescence and young adulthood. Moreover, rock music has played a pivotal role in shaping cultural movements and catalyzing social change. The counterculture of the 1960s, for instance, was inextricably linked to the rise of psychedelic rock, with bands like The Doors andPink Floyd using their music as a vehicle for exploring consciousness expansion and challenging societal norms. Similarly, the punk rock movement of the 1970s was a direct response to the perceived complacency and conformity of mainstream culture, with bands like The Ramones and The Sex Pistols embracing a raw, stripped-down sound that embodied the ethos of rebellion and anti-establishment sentiment.Beyond its cultural impact, rock music has also served as a powerful medium for self-expression and personal growth. For many young artists, the genre provides a canvas upon which they can explore their identities, wrestle with their demons, and find solace in the shared experiences of their peers. The cathartic release of belting out lyrics or shredding a guitar solo can be a profoundly therapeutic experience, allowing individuals to channel their emotions in a constructive and creative manner.Personally, rock music has been a constant companion throughout my academic journey, providing a soundtrack to the highs and lows of student life. Whether I'm cramming for exams, navigating the complexities of social dynamics, or simply seeking solace in the familiar embrace of a beloved song, rock has been there for me, offering a sense of connection and validation that few other art forms can match. One of my fondest memories is attending my first live rock concert, an experience that left an indelible mark on my soul. The electric atmosphere, the thunderous applause, and the shared camaraderie with fellow fans created a sense of belonging that transcended the boundaries of age, race, or background. In that moment, we were all united by our love for the music, our collective passion serving as a powerful reminder of the universal language that rock music speaks. As I look to the future, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the ways in which rock music will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of artistic expression. With the advent of new technologies and the ever-increasing globalization of culture, the possibilities for cross-pollination and experimentation within the genre are endless.Perhaps we'll see the emergence of new subgenres that blend rock with elements of electronic music or world rhythms, pushing the boundaries of what we currently define as "rock." Or maybe we'll witness a resurgence of classic rock influences, with a new generation of artists paying homage to the pioneers who paved the way for the genre's enduring legacy.Regardless of the direction it takes, I am confident that rock music will continue to captivate and inspire generations of listeners, serving as a beacon of artistic expression and a voice for the disenfranchised and the misunderstood. For as long as there are young hearts yearning to break free from the shackles of convention, there will be rock music to provide them with the anthems they need to fuel their rebellion and chase their dreams. In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, rock music offers a sanctuary – a place where we can lose ourselves in the thunderous beats and searing melodies, and find solace in the shared experiences of those who have walked a similar path. It is an art form that transcends language barriers and cultural divides, speaking to the universal human yearning forself-expression, catharsis, and connection. So, crank up the volume, let the power chords wash over you, and embrace the liberating power of rock music. For within its electrifying rhythms and soul-stirring lyrics lies a timeless truth –that in a world that often tries to silence our individuality, the act of rocking out is an act of defiance, a celebration of the human spirit, and a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression.。

我最喜欢的音乐英语作文初二
我最喜欢的音乐英语作文初二Music has always been an integral part of my life. From a young age, I have been captivated by the power of sound to evoke emotions, tell stories, and connect people. Whether it's the soulful melodies of a classical piano concerto or the infectious rhythms of a pop song, music has the ability to transport me to another world and leave a lasting impression on my heart and mind. One of the genres of music that I am most passionate about is rock. There is something about the raw energy and rebellious spirit of rock music that resonates with me on a deep level. The driving guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and powerful vocals of my favorite rock bands have the ability to make my heart race and adrenaline surge. When I listen to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Queen, or Guns N' Roses, I feel a sense of freedom and exhilaration that is unmatched by any other genre. What I find most compelling about rock music is its ability to express the full range of human emotions. From the angst and frustration of songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana to the triumphant andanthemic nature of tracks like "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, rock music has the power to capture the complexities of the human experience. The lyrics of these songs often delve into themes of love, loss, rebellion, and the search for meaning, resonating with listeners on a profound level.Beyond the emotional impact of rock music, I am also fascinated by the technical virtuosity and creativity that goes into its creation. The intricate guitar solos, complex time signatures, and innovative production techniques employed by the best rock artists are a testament to the skill and artistry of the musicians. When I listen to the masterful guitar work of Jimi Hendrix or the innovative drumming of Neil Peart, I am left in awe of the sheer talent and dedication required to achieve such a high level of musicianship.Another genre of music that I am passionate about is hip-hop. While rock music appeals to my sense of raw energy and emotion, hip-hop captivates me with its clever wordplay, social commentary, and innovative production. The ability of rappers to craft intricate rhyme schemes, tell compelling stories, and tackle complex social and political issues is truly remarkable. Artists like Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Mos Def have the power to not only entertain but also to educate and inspire. What I find most compelling about hip-hop is its ability to give voiceto marginalized communities and shed light on the lived experiences of those who have been historically underrepresented in mainstream media. Whether it's the tales of life in the inner city or the struggles of navigating systemic racism and oppression, hip-hop provides a platform for the expression of perspectives that are often overlooked or silenced. By listening to these powerful narratives, I am able to gain a deeper understanding of the world around me and the diverse experiences of my fellow human beings. In addition to the emotional and social impact of hip-hop, I am also captivated by the genre's innovative use of sampling and production techniques. The ability of hip-hop producers to take snippets of existing music and weave them into something entirely new is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the genre. The way that these artists are able to blend disparate musical elements into a cohesive and compelling whole is truly remarkable, and it has inspired me to explore the art of music production and experimentation. While rock and hip-hop are the genres that I am most passionate about, I have a deep appreciation for all forms of music. From the soulful melodies of R&B to the intricate harmonies of jazz, each genre has its own unique charm and appeal. I find myself constantly exploring new musical horizons, seeking out artists and styles that challenge my preconceptions and expand my understanding of theart form. One of the things that I love most about music is its ability to bring people together. Whether it's attending a live concert, sharing playlists with friends, or bonding over a shared love of a particular artist, music has a way of creating a sense of community and connection. The experience of collectively experiencing the power of sound and rhythm is something that I find deeply fulfilling and enriching. In conclusion, music is a fundamental part of my life and has the power to inspire, challenge, and connect me in ways that nothing else can. From the raw energy of rock to the social commentary of hip-hop, each genre has the ability to touch my heart and mind in profound ways. As I continue to explore the vast and diverse world of music, I am constantly in awe of the creativity, skill, and passion that goes into its creation, and I am excited to see what new musical horizons I will discover in the years to come.。

10 Best Rock Songs by Black Musicians anda Little Rock Music HistoryWith few black rock musicians making waves today, we sometimes forget that some of the best rock songs of all time were by black musicians, and that they were the innovators behind what would become known as rock and roll. This is a look at ten of the best rock songs by black musicians, starting with what are often considered some of the first true rock songs and ending with a man that forever changed the way we view the guitar and one of the few modern black rock stars. So from the originators to the innovators, don't forget rock's roots with the best rock songs by black musicians on this list.'Rocket 88' by Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm (but credited to Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, a band that didn't exist) - It's open for debate over whether or not this 1951 hit is truly one of the first rock songs, after its distinctive faster rhythm and blues sound started to break away from the all-out blues songs that many black musicians were making popular. But whether it's one of the true rock songs on this list or not, it was the start of a few rock partnerships, including that of black musicians with exciting up-tempo rock music and classic cars with rock songs. It created a new distinctive sound with Jackie Brenston's enthusiastic vocals, some swingin' and upbeat piano music, a sax solo, and the first use of fuzz guitar (a type of rough distortion that would be used in may rock songs to come, which came about when the amplifier the band's guitarist was using became damaged). Whether it's truly one of the first rock songs or not, it is one of the most influential, with artists like Little Richard definitely taking a page or two from Ike's playbook (Little Richard even used the piano intro to the song for his 'Good Golly Miss Molly').'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' by Big Joe Turner - This is one of the many rock songs on this list that feels like a blend of R&B, rock, and blues, and Big Joe Turner is one of the many black musicians on this list to have his song covered by a white musician, with the version of 'Shake, Rattle, and Roll' done by Billy Haley & His Comets becoming a much bigger hit. But it's Big Joe's 1954 version of one of the best rock songs of all time by a black musician that really shakes things up and hints at how sex and rock would become an inseperable couple in the future. His risque lyrics ("shake, rattle, and roll" is a euphemism for sexual intercourse) which include lines like "I've been holdin' it in way down underneath; you make me roll my eyes, baby, make me grit my teeth" were way too much for audiences of the 50's, so Bill Haley's version was definitely watered down a lotfor the masses. But with the direction rock took in the 60's and 70's, it's obvious that Big Joe was a man ahead of his time, and will always be known as not just one of the best black musicians of all time, but as a man responsible for one of the best rock songs of all time and an inspiration for many more to come.'Ain't That a Shame' by Fats Domino - 1955 was a big year for black musicians and rock songs, with the genre going multiple different directions and many of rock's greatest legends coming into their own. As early as 1949, Fats Domino was making waves with his up-tempo hit 'The Fat Man', but one of his best songs has to be his 1955 jazzy and bluesy hit, 'Ain't That a Shame'. It has a slower tempo than some of the songs on this list, but as many rock bands have proved (especially Led Zeppelin and Queen), not all rock songs have to be fast to be rock. And like many of the best rock songs by black musicians, it definitely has strong R&B roots, but is another of the many great songs on this list that shows the wonderful variety of rock songs by black artists springing up in the 50's.'Bo Diddley' by 'Bo Diddley' - This is one of the black musicians on this list whose songs definitely feel like real rock, and he can be considered one of the early bad boys of the genre. His up-tempo song that makes sure that you know who he is seamlessly makes the transition from R&B to true rock n' roll with some added African rhythms to make his sound truly unique, and he became one of the first rock musicians to get in trouble on'The Ed Sullivan Show' for his choice of song (The Doors would also infamously get in trouble for their lyrics later on). Apparently he had been requested to sing 'Sixteen Tons' on the show, but sang 'Bo Diddley' instead, angering the host and getting himself banned from future performances there. But this didn't put a damper on his success, and his rebellious act wouldn't be the last in the world of rock.'Tutti Frutti' by Little Richard - And here's another of the black musicians on this list that really knew how to rock the ivories, a legendary rock pianist who added some funk to his rock/R&B music. His spoken drum solo at the beginning of this 1955 song ("A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop-a-lop-bam-boom!") would be a big influence on many artists to come, as they, too, incorporated spoken sounds into their rock music. Apparently the early version of 'Tutti Frutti' was pretty risque, an underground favorite with lyrics refering to gay sex. However, it was cleaned up for mainstream music fans and made a big hit. Unfortunately, Little Richard was one of the many black muscians of the day whose songs were hijacked and turned into hits for white artists, in this instance, Pat Boone, whose watered-down version topped Richard's on the charts. Still, we all know that Little Richard's version is a one-of-a-kind original, and his is the one we all love most today.'The Great Pretender' by The Platters - This is yet another of the great songs by black musicians released in 1955, this one representing the beginning of a new kind ofrock popular in the 50's, doo-wop. This new sound consisted of not just one singer with amazing vocals, but a group harmonizing together. And this is definitely one of the best doo-wop rock songs of all time, with a smooth and soulful sound and lyrics about tryingto get over a lost love, a subject that would be very popular in the genre. It's also another of the rock songs by black musicians that a white rock group would cover later on, but in this case, Freddie Mercury of the rock band Queen's version wouldn't be popular until decades later in 1987. It's definitely one of the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear about lost love, and one that we hear and immediately know is from the 50's.'Johnny B. Goode' by Chuck Berry - This incredibly infectious song from 1958 about a poor boy dreaming of having his name in lights someday may be semi-autobiographical for musician Chuck Berry, who definitely achieved his dream and then some. The opening riff is one of the most recognizable in rock, and audiences of the time probably truly never heard anything like it (something that would be touched upon famously in the 80's movie 'Back to the Future', which reminded audiences about what a game-changer the song was). It's hard to find rock songs that are better, and it's one of the many great rock songs by black musicians on this list that audiences still love today (although it now doesn't get any deserved radio play).'Purple Haze' by Jimi Hendrix - This is just one of the many great rock songs by a man that could be called the greatest black rock musician of all time, and the best guitarist of all time. Jimi Hendrix (who did a popular cover of 'Johnny B. Goode' that was released post-humously) was one of the musical icons of the 60's that represented notjust a shift in the world of rock music, but a whole movement of social change. This 1967 song is supposedly about a dream Hendrix had about walking under the sea, and it's famous for a mondegreen; "'scuse me, while I kiss the sky" was often misheard as "'scuse me, while I kiss this guy", something Hendrix would playful note on stage, actually singing the wrong lyric and even occassionally giving a guy a peck on the cheek. No one has come along to top Hendrix's guitar work, white, black, or otherwise, so he'll forever remain not just one of the most revered black musicians of all time, but an ultimate rock icon responsible for some of the greatest songs in rock history.'The Star-Spangled Banner' by Jimi Hendrix - And in 1969 at Woodstock, Hendrix would play something before 'Purple Haze' that would capture the imagination of generations to come. There had never been anything like his guitar version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner', a surreal performance that truly represented the youth of America's change in thinking. His take on our national anthem has since become one of the most legendary moments in rock and roll history, a performance that is impossible to duplicate.'Fly Away' by Lenny Kravitz - And here's one of the few modern rock musicians to make it big in a world where white rock musicians have taken over the genre. In 1998, Kravitz showed America that black rock musicians could still make it big with his high-octane hit, one of the most popular songs of the 90's. It was obvious that Kravitz was heavily influenced by Hendrix (especially with his later cover of The Guess Who's song,'American Woman'), and his brand of rock definitely stood out from the rest in the 90's. And so he remains one of the few great modern black rock musicians, with only a handful of others following.Modern black musicians seem to be focusing mostly on R&B and hip-hop, but I've got to point out that there are a few modern black musicians still trying to rock, including Lajon Witherspoon, the lead singer of the band Sevendust. Sevendust's brand of rock is the modern alternative variety, and while they haven't achieved the notoriety of some modern rock bands, they still can bring it hard. Then there's modern band 'Living Colour', a funk metal band most well-known for one of the most popular songs of the late 80's,'Cult of Personality'.Then of course you've got the great black musicians of the past that weren't considered rock artists, but heavily influenced the genre, including Big Mama Thornton, whose blues song 'Hound Dog' Elvis would later hijack and make a hit (Janis Joplin also covered one of her songs); Muddy Waters, who sang a blues song called 'Rock Me' and was one of the first musicians to use the electric guitar; Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who blended an early rock style with gospel music; and Booker T and the MG's, one of the first racially integrated bands. So from the greatest black rock musicians of all time and their best songs to those that were a great influence on the birth of rock and roll, be sure to catch up on your history of black musicians and their influence on rock by listening to the amazing songs on this list.。
