Sublist 1Word BuildingThe following prefixes and roots are involved in some words of this section.Words*require vt. 需要, 要求【构词分析】:由re-(再,又)+ quire(寻求,寻找)构成。

【习惯用法】:require sth. of sb. 对某人有...的要求require sb. to do sth. 要求某人做某事【同义辨析】:require和demand都有“要求”的意思。

demand 的含义是“强烈要求”;如果主语是人,这个词的含义可以解释为“据权要求”;如果主语是物,这个词的含义可以解释为“需要”或“要求”。

e.g. This workdemands patience. 这种工作要求有耐心。

require 的确切含义是“对所要求的事”要绝对服从,或者说这种“要求”带有法律或规章的强迫性。

e.g. The course requires you to know English. 这门课程要求你懂英语。

注:demand和require引导的宾语从句用虚拟语气。
