2016高考英语二轮阅读理解练习(1)及答案2016高考英语阅读理解--日常生活类Papa’s Straw HatPapa was a ranger. He worked with horses. He always wore clean clothes with a hat even when he worked. His hat was always the same kind of a cowboy hat- large black hat of heavy wool. He wore his hat full and high. I think he wanted to look taller than he really was.Mama was proud of the way he looked when he wore his hat and his best clothes. But in some way she got the idea that papa would lose his hair if he kept wearing a heavy wool cowboy hat in the hot weather. She began to talk about his hats.“Papa,” she said one day, “why don't you get a nice cool straw hat? That heavy wool cowboy hat may cause losing hair!” Papa laughed at her and explained that the horses wouldn’t recognize him if he changed the hat. But she didn’t believe him.Mama talked and talked about the hat all summer long. At last papa answered, a little angry, “It would not the cowboy hat but a wife’s talking about the hat that makes me lose my hair.”Mama had a very serious look on her face. She went straight out and later came home with a straw hat. It was a bad year for ranger and we didn't have much money. She thought that if she spent the money for a straw hat, papa would wear it. When papa saw the hat, his face got red. Without a word, he pulled the straw hat down over his head until it hid his eyes and went on to train the horses. He was a good ranger and gentle to his horses. But as papa got close to the horses this time, they jumped high into the air, raising their front feet. All of them ran around in the rounded field and then raced toward the barn. Papa began to shout “Woo boys. Steady boys, steady.” But there was nothing equal to.Papa walked back straight to the stove in the kitchen, pushed the straw hat deep downinto the fire then turned to mama, in a way that even frightened me. “Now listen to me, mama. Understand this I will never wear a straw hat or any other kind of hat my horses do not like.” Then he put on his wool cowboy hat and walked out of the house.I never heard mama talk any more about hats. Perhaps, that is why when papa died many years later, there was a round spot on the top of his head where there was no hair.【小题1】According to the passage, a ranger is _______.A.a person wearing a woolen hatB.a position requiring clean clothesC.a person training horses for some purposeD.a person riding a carriage with horses【小题2】Mama bought papa a straw hat because _______.A.most cowboys preferred to wear itB.she was worried about his healthC.a woolen one didn’t suit papaD.it was cheap and she could save money【小题3】What quality can we learn from papa?A.Gentle. D.Modest.【小题4】It can be learned from the story that _______.A.this family were not rich but diligentB.papa didn’t love the straw hat and mamaC.protecting hair was very importantD.a cowboy hat was useful on farming阅读理解。

English as a Foreign LanguageWho taught you to speak English? Yourparents, while you were a young child? Yourteachers at school? Perhaps even the BBCas a grown-up. Whoever it was, somehow youhave developed an understanding of what israpidly becoming a truly global language. There are now about 376 million people who speak English as their first language, and about the same number who have learnt it in addition to their mother tongue. There are said to be one billion people learning English now and about 80% of the information on the Internet is in English. Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? Should we celebrate the fact that more and more of us can communicate, using a common language, across countries and cultures? Or should we worry about the dangersof“mono-culturalism”, a world in which we all speak the same language, eat the same food and listen to the same music?Does it matter if an increasing number of people speak the same language? On the contrary, I would have thought-although I have never accepted the argument that if only we all understood each other better, there would be fewer wars. Ask the people of India(where many of them speak at least some English)and Pakistan(the same situation with India). . .If we all speak English, will we then all start eating McDonald’s burgers? Surely not. If English becomes more dominant(占主导地位的), will it kill other languages? I doubt it. When I travel in Africa or Asia, I am always surprised by how many people can speak not only their own language but often one or more other related languages, as well as English and perhaps some French or German as well. When we discussed this on Talking Point a couple of years ago, we receive d a wonderfully poetic email from a listener in Ireland. “The English language is a beautiful language. Maybe it’s like a rose, ”he said. “But who would ever want their garden just full of rose? ”Well, I love roses, and I think they make a beautiful addition to any garden. But the way I see it, just by planting a few roses, you don’t necessarily need to pull out everything else. If more and more people want to plant English roses, that’s fine by me.【文章大意】作者以独特的视角分析了英语的发展前景和人们的种种顾虑。

ROME: The legend of Leonardo da Vinci is covered in mystery: How did he die? Are the remains buried in a French castle really those of the master? Was the "Mona Lisa" a self-portrait in disguise (伪装)?A group of Italian scientists believe the key to solving those puzzles lies with the remains, and they say they are seeking permission to dig up the body to conduct carbon and DNA testing. If the skull is undamaged, the scientists can go to the heart of a questi on that has fascinated scholars and the public for centuries: the identity of the "Mona Lisa." Recreating a virtual and then physical reconstruction of Leonardo's face, they can compare it with the smiling face in the painting. "We don't know what we'll find if the tomb is opened. We could even just find grains and dust," says Giorgio Gruppioni, an anthropologist who is participating in the project. "But if the remains are well kept, they are a biological record of events in a person's life, and sometimes in their death." Silvano Vinceti, the leader of the group, said that he plans to press his case with the French officials in charge of the said burial site at Amboise Castle early next week.Leonardo moved to France at the invitation of King Francis I, who named him "first painter to the king." He spent the last three years of his life there, and died in 1519 at age 67. The artist's original burial place, the palace church of Saint Florentine, was destroyed during the French Revolution and remains that are believed to be his were eventually reburied in the Saint-Hubert Chapel near the castle."The Amboise tomb is a symbolic tomb; it's a big question mark," said Alessandro Vezzosi, the director of a museum dedicated to Leonardo in his hometown of Vinci. Vezzosi said that investigating the tomb could help identify the artist's bones with certainty and solve other questions, such as the cause of his death. He said he asked to open the tomb in 2004 to study the remains, but the Amboise Castle turned him down. The group of 100 experts involved in the project, called the National Committee for Historical and Artistic Heritage, was created in 2003 with the aim of "solving the great mysteries of the past," saidVinceti, who has written books on art and literature.Arguably the world's most famous painting, the "Mona Lisa" hangs in the Louvre in Paris, where it drew some 8.5 million visitors last year. Mystery has surrounded the identity of the painting's subject for centuries, with opinions ranging from the wife of a Florentine merchant to Leonardo's own mother. That Leonardo intended the "Mona Lisa" as a self-portrait in disguise is a possibility that has interested and divided scholars. Theories have existed: Some think that Leonardo's taste for tricks and riddles might have led him to hide his own identity behind that puzzling smile; others have guessed that the painting hid an androgynous lover. If granted access to the grave site, the Italian experts plan to use a tiny camera and radar to confirm the presence of bones. The scientists would then exhume (挖掘) the remains and attempt to date the bones with carbon testing. At the heart of the proposed study is the effort to discover whether the remains are actually Leonardo's, including with DNA testing.K s*5uVezzosi questions the DNA comparison, saying he is unaware of any direct descendants (后代) of Leonardo or of tombs that could be attributed with certainty to the artist's close relatives. Gruppioni said that DNA from the bones could also eventually be compared to DNA found elsewhere. For example, Leonardo is thought to have rubbed colors on the canvas with his thumb, possibly using saliva (唾液), meaning DNA might be found on his paintings.Even in the absence of DNA testing, other tests could provide useful information, including whether the bones belonged to a man or a woman, and whether the person died young or old.Even within the committee, experts are divided over the identity of the "Mona Lisa."Vinceti believes that a tradition of considering the self-portrait to be not just a faithful imitation of one's features but a representation of one's spiritual identity may have resonated (共鸣) with Leonardo.Vezzosi, the museum director, dismissed as "baseless and senseless" the idea that the "Mona Lisa" could be a self-portrait of Leonardo. He said most researchers believe the woman may have been either a wife of the artist's sponsor, the Florentine nobleman Giuliano de Medici, or Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a rich silk merchant, Francesco del Giocondo. The traditional view is that the name "Mona Lisa" comes from the silk merchant's wife, as well as its Italian name: "La Gioconda."50.Why does the author ask a couple of questions in the beginning?A.To arouse the interest of readers. B.To puzzle Italian scientists.C.To answer the questions himself. D.To make fun of French officials.51.The best title of this story might be “_____”.A.What Is the Purpose of an Investigation?B.How Did Leonardo da Vinci Die in France?C.Are the Remains Really Those of the Master?D.Did Leonardo Paint Himself as 'Mona Lisa'?52.The sentence “he plans to press his case with the French officials” (underlined in Paragraph 4) suggests that Vinceti intends to _____.A.press the French officials to participate in their projectB.urge the French officials to open the tomb early next weekC.persuade the French officials to allow opening the tombD.record events in a person’s life with the French officials53.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?A.Scholars have the same opinion on DNA testing.B.Scientists doubt if the remains are those of da Vinci.C.The identity of “Mona Lisa” has already been proved.D.Alessandro Vezzosi got permission to open the tomb.54.We can infer from the last two paragraphs that _____?A.“Mona Lisa” is the name of the wife of a silk merchantB.the “Mona Lisa” is a self-portrait of Leonardo da VinciC.experts divided the committee into several groupsD.opinions differ of the identity of the “Mona Lisa”【答案】阅读理解练习阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

陕西三原县2016高考英语【二轮】阅读理解基础训练(2)阅读理解Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Brain-computer interface(BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic school in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated(展示)a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person’s thoughts. In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right band. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.“our brain has billions of nerve ceils. These send signals through the spinal cord (脊髓)to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles,” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices.”The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain.Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain signals and turn s them into simple commands. “The prac tical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.”He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit front. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.71.BCI is a technology that canA. help to update computer systemsB. link the human brain with computersC. help the disabled to recoverD. control a person's thoughts72. How" did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory?A. By controlling his muscles.B. By talking to the machine.C. By moving his hand.D. By using his mind.73. Even when her daughter and son asked her to move to San Antonio to help with their children, she politely refused. Only after a year of friendly discussion did Ms Garza finally say yes. That was four years ago. Today all three generations regard the move as a success, giving them a closer relationship than they would have had in separate cities. No statistics show the number of grandparents like Garza who are moving closer to the adult children and grandchildren. Yet there is evidence suggesting that the trend is growing. Even President Obama's motherinlaw, Marian Robinson, has agreed to leave Chicago and move into the White House to help care for her granddaughters. According to a study by , 83 per cent of the people said Mrs Robinson's decision will influence grandparents in the American family. Twothirds believe more families will foll ow the example of Obama's family.“In the 1960s we were all a little wild and couldn't get away from home far enough or fast enough to prove we could do it on our own,” says Christine Crosby, publisher of Grand, a magazine for grandparents. “We now realize how important family is and how important it is to be near them, especially when you're raising children.”Moving is not for everyone. Almost every grandparent wants to be with his or her grandchildren and is willing to make sacrifices, but sometimes it is wiser to say no and visit frequently instead. Having your grandchildren far away is hard, especially knowing your adult child is struggling, but giving up the life you know may be harder.25. 语鹅市安置阳光实验学校2016高考英语阅读理解二轮练习(1)[史地自然型阅读理解(二)]Besides containing attractive flowers, trees and other plants that beautify the community, ecofriendly rain gardens(雨水花园) are healthy for the environment and the people living and working nearby.A rain garden is not very different from a traditional garden. It is just a far more ecofriendly garden. Usually it is built lower than the ground. Rain gardens make smart use of rain and storm water by temporarily holding water from rain and storms and letting it soak(浸入)slowly into the ground before it runs into streams or enters the public drinking water supply. Thus, a rain garden keeps the water, allowing it to be used as needed by plants in the rain garden, rather than flowing immediately into nearby streams and going unused. The water will soak slowly into the ground within a day or two. This creates an advantage that the rain garden does not allow mosquitoes to breed. This is a simple, attractive, andecofriendly “green” way to treat storm water. What's more, planting a rain garden helps reduce pollution and improve the environment. Without using expensive machinery and chemicals, rain gardens remove harmful chemicals in the rainwater and cut down on the amount of pollution reaching streams and rivers by up to 30%.Native plants are recommended for rain gardens because they are more used to the local climate, soil, and water conditions. They may attract local wildlife such as native birds. Water your rain garden immediately after planting and once a week, unless you have had at least an inch of rain during the week. Once native plants establish the necessary root system, they will require little care.Often, local governments and private businesses develop large rain gardens in their yards and in public parks as a way to improve the environment and solve flooding problems. However, you don't need to be a professionally environmental engineer to create a rain garden. As long as you're ecoconscious homeowners, you can help the environment by building smaller rain gardens in your yards.1. Which of the following is NOT true for the function of rain gardens?A.They are good for living conditions.B.They increase pollution.C.They can beautify the community.D.They improve the environment.2. Which of the following is the ecofriendly function of rain gardens discussed in Paragraph 4?A.They can keep the rain and storm water.B.They can help reduce the pollution problem.C.They can be healthy for the people around.D.They can make the environment more beautiful.3. One of the main reasons why native plants are recommended is that________.A.they cost less and are much easier to getB.they may attract local wildlife to comeC.they require little care from the local gardenerD.they are more used to the local growing conditions4. What do we know about rain gardens?A.They need little water after all the plants are planted.B.They usually need at least an inch of rainwater a week.C.They may attract local birds and change the local climate.D.They may reduce the water pollution problem by 70%.5. Who are the intended readers of the passage?A.Homeowners.B.Students.C.Engineers.D.Educators.【参考答案解析】B【要点综述】本文主要介绍了环境友好型的雨水花园是如何运作的。

Why should resources be spent on space rather than on conditions and people on Earth? These are questions that, understandably, are very often asked.Perhaps the best answer lies in our genetic makeup(基因构成) as human beings. What drove our ancestors to move from the trees into the plains, and on into all possible areas and environments? The wider the spread of a species, the better its chance of survival. Perhaps the best reason for exploring space is this genetic tendency to expand wherever possible.Nearly every successful civilization has explored, because by doing so, any dangers in surrounding areas can be identified and prepared for. Without knowledge, we may be completely destroyed by the danger. With knowledge, we can lessen its effects.Exploration also allows minerals and other potential(潜在的) resources to be found.Even if we have no immediate need of them, they will perhaps be useful later. Resources may be more than physical possessions. Knowledge or techniques have been acquired through exploration. The techniques may have medical applications which can improve the length or quality of our lives. We have already benefited from other spin-offs including improvements in earthquake prediction, in satellites for weather forecasting and in communications systems. Even nonstick pans and mirrored sunglasses are byproducts(副产品) of technological developments in the space industry! While many resources are spent on what seems a small return, the exploration of space allows creative, brave and intelligent members of our species to focus on what may serve to save us. While space may hold many wonders and explanations of how the universe was formed or how it works, it also holds dangers. The danger exists, but knowledge can help human beings to survive. Without the ability to reach out across space, the chance to save ourselves might not exist. While Earth is the only planet known to support life, surely the adaptive ability of humans would allow us to live on other planets. It is true that the lifestyle would be different, but human life and cultures have adapted in the past and surely could in the future.1.Why does the author mention the questions in Paragraph 1?A.To express his doubts.B.To compare different ideas.C.To introduce points for discussion.D.To describe the conditions on Earth.2.What is the reason for exploring space based on Paragraph 2?A.Humans are nature-born to do so.B.Humans have the tendency to fight.C.Humans may find new sources of food.D.Humans don’t like to stay in the same place.3.The underlined word “spin-offs” in Paragraph 4 probably refers to ________.A.survival chances B.potential resourcesC.unexpected benefits D.physical possessions4.What makes it possible for humans to live on other planets?A.Our genetic makeup.B.Resources on the earth.C.The adaptive ability of humans.D.Byproducts in space exploration.[解题导语] 本文是一篇议论文,向我们阐述了人类进行太空探索的原因。

陕西凤县2016高考英语二轮阅读理解初练(2)及答案【2015高考复习】阅读理解Research shows that childhood friendships are important indicators of future success and social adjustment.Children‟s relationships with peers (同龄人) strongly influence their success in school, and children with fewer friends are more at risk of dropping out of school, becoming depressed and other problems.Making and Keeping Friends Is More than Child‟s PlayWhen 6-year-old Rachel returned to school on a recent Monday morning, her eyes immediately scanned the play ground for her friend Abbie.“Though they were only separated by a weekend, the girls ran right into each other‟s arms and hugged,”recalls Rachel‟s mother Kathryn Willis of Gilbert.“It was like a scene from a movie.”Most parents instinctively (本能地) know that having friends is good for their child.Experts agree that friendship is not simply child‟s play, but a powerful predictor of social adjustment throughout life.A Skill for Life“Childhood friendships serve as a very important training ground for adultho od,” saysDr.Robbie Adler-Tapia,psychologist with the Center for Children‟s Health & Life Development at the East Valley Family Resource Center.Researcher William Hartup states,“Peer relations contribute significantly to both social and cognitive (认知的) development.” Hartup concludes that the single best childhood predictor of adult social adaptation is not school grades or classroom behavior, but rather, how well a child gets along with other children. The work of Arizona State University professor of Developmental Psychology Gary Ladd proves that just as being able to make and keep friends is beneficial to kids,so is the lack of friends detrimental.Good Friendships Don‟t Just HappenExperts agree that it is essential for children to establish high-quality friendships. But,researchers warn, these friendships don‟t necessarily just happen.Often,a good friendship begins with involved parents.Psychologist Dr.Lynne Kenney Markan believes kids should be taught social skills in much the same way they are taught math and reading.Bad CompanyMany parents worry about the quality as well as the quantity of their child‟s friendships.“When she was in 1st grade, her supposed …best friend‟ began calling her names and threatening to hurt her,” says Mindy Mil ler.“My daughter wasn‟t allowed to talk to or even look at other girls in her class.Itreally crushed her spirit.I told my daughter she didn‟t need a …friend‟ like that.”“I‟ll bend over backwards to help my son get together with a friend I think is good f or him,” AdlerTapia says.“I don‟t look at it as manipulation (操纵),just positive parental involvement.”【语篇解读】研究表明,童年时期的友谊对孩子的将来有着非常重要的意义。

陕西礼泉县2016高考英语阅读理解(二轮)联练(3)【2014高考英语湖北省襄阳市统考试题】A single tumor(肿瘤)can be made up of many separate cancers needing different treatments, say researchers.A team at the Institute of Cancer Research, London, has developed a new technique for measuring the diversity within a cancer. They showed "extraordinary" differences between cancerous cells and say traditional drugs may fail as they may be unable to kill all the mutated (突变)tissue.Experts said the f'mdings would have "far-reaching effects" for treatments.A tumor starts as a single cell, which acquires mutations and eventually divides uncontrollably. But that is not the end of the process. Cancerous cells continue to mutate and become more aggressive, move round the body and resist drugs. This process is disordered and results in a "diverse" tumor containing cancerous cells that have mutated in different ways."This has huge implications for medicine," researcher Prof Mel Greaves told the BBC. His team at the Institute of Cancer Research investigated cancer diversity in five children with leukemia. They compared mutations in individual cancerous cells with a known database of mutations.Their results, published in the journal Genome Research, showed patients had between 2 and 10 genetically distinct leukemia.Prof Greaves said:"Every patient doesn't have one cancer, they have multiple cancers. This is really a technical advance to get at this extraordinary complex diversity; it helps explain why we have such difficulty with advanced diseases."Scientists compare cancer diversity to a tree. The initial mutations the trunk will be common to all cancer cells. But then the tumor branches out. It means a treatment that targets one "branch" or sub-clone of the cancer might slow the disease, but they will never stop it. Prof Charles Swanton, who researches diversity at the University College London Cancer Institute, told the BBC:"We call it pruning(修剪) the branches not cutting down the tree; treatment will remove some of the sub-clones, but cutting down the tree is hard to do. The bottom line is that we need to understand cancer diversity to limit further adaptations, reduce the pace of evolution and prolong the activity of drugs."67. Why do the traditional drugs have no effects on treatment of cancer?A. They are worsening the condition.B. They are unable to kill the constantly changing cancerous cells.C. It takes a long time for them to have effects.D. They are not powerful enough.68.
