• The heavy smog sweeping across much of China reminds us of the catastrophic Great London Smog of 1952, which killed 12,000 people, as well as the measures that city took afterwards to control pollution. These measures included banning many smoke-emitting fuels, raising the minimum permissible heights of industrial chimneys, moving power stations out of the city, and many others. London eventually takes on a new look because of these measures. What measures do you think we in China should take to deal with smog pollution?

Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. My name is [Your Name]. I am an English major and I am currently studying at [Your University]. It is my great pleasure to be here to participate in this oral practice session. I would like to share my hobbies with you today. First of all, I am an avid reader. I love losing myself in various genres of books, especially classics and novels. Reading not only broadens my horizons, but also helps me improve my language skills and critical thinking abilities.Additionally, I enjoy playing musical instruments. I have been learning to play the piano since I was a child. Music brings me a great sense of joy and helps me relax after a long day of studying. It also helps me appreciate different cultures and forms of art.Lastly, I am passionate about traveling. Exploring different countries and experiencing various cultures has always been a dream of mine. Traveling allows me to step out of my comfort zone, broaden my perspective, and meet people from different backgrounds. It is an incredible learning opportunity. Now, let's move on to discuss a hot topic - the impact of social media on our daily lives. Social media has become an integral part of our lives. On the one hand, it brings convenience and helps us connect with friends and family regardless of time and distance. It also provides a platform for businesses to reach out to potential customers. On the other hand, excessive use of social media can have negative effects. Many people become addicted to social media and spend excessive amounts of time scrolling through feeds, neglecting real-life social interactions. Moreover, social media often presents a distorted reality, leading to feelings of inferiority, low self-esteem, and even depression. To maintain a healthy balance, it is important to use social media responsibly. We should limit our screen time, engage in meaningful activities, and prioritize face-to-face interactions. By doing so, we can reap the benefits of social media while avoiding its negative impacts. Now, let's move on to a debate. The topic for today is whether technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), will replace human workforce in the future. Let's first discuss the advantages of AI. AI can perform repetitive tasks more efficiently and accurately than humans. It can also analyze big data to provide insights and predictions, which can greatly benefit industries such as finance and healthcare. However, there are concerns about the potential drawbacks of AI. One major concern is the displacement of human workers. As AI advances, jobs that require routine tasks may be automated, leading to unemployment andincome inequality. Additionally, there are ethical concerns regarding the development of AI, such as privacy invasion and bias in decision-making algorithms. In conclusion, while AI undoubtedly brings numerous benefits, it is crucial to strike a balance between the application of AI and the preservation of human employment. Emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and retraining programs can help individuals adapt to the changing job market and ensure that technology serves as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for human workforce. In conclusion, participating in this oral practice session has been a valuable experience for me. It has allowed me to enhance my English speaking skills and gain confidence in expressing my thoughts. I believe that continuous practice and exposure to real-life English communication will further improve my performance in the English major oral examination.Thank you for your attention. I wish you all the best in your language learning journey. Let's keep practicing and striving for excellence!。

Task One: Interpreting from English into Chinese.Directions: Please do not do interpreting when you listen to the speech this time.Remarks by an Indonesian High Official at the Launching of“Indonesia International Friendly Contact”Distinguished Guests,It gives me great pleasure to be able to join you today on the auspicious occasion of the launching of “Indonesia International Friendly Contact.”I feel that the launching of this friendship association is held at an impeccable time. This year we commemorate a significant event in the history of the relationship between Indonesia and China. Indonesia was one of the first countries to recognize China and it was 60 years ago that diplomatic relations were officially established between our two countries. The bilateral relations between Indonesia and China reached a new high in 2005. Since then, we have been witnessing the enhancement of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in all fields, including economic cooperation. This year, the bilateral trade volume amounted to US$28.6 billion, and we have set the target for trade with China to reach US$50 billion in 2014. In addition, the Government of Indonesia has also determined that to achieve sustainable development, cooperation should be focused on the improvement of infrastructure, as well as technology transfer for food and energy security. Our cooperation targets should not be limited only to reaching higher trade volume, but also promoting mutual understanding between the people of our two countries. In Indonesia, Chinese have been an important ethnic group since the pre-independence period of the country, and even long before that. There have been considerable and revolutionary changes in the government’s policies toward Chinese. This is now an era of rediscovery. Many Mandarin learning centers have opened throughout the country. Dragon and lion dances are held in public in many places. And Chinese culture is beginning to be embraced by the popular media.Indonesia International Friendly Contact will complement the existing social ties which serve as the avenues for closer engagement, exchange of culture and ideas, and stronger cooperation amongst nations. It is our fervent hope that Indonesia International Friendly Contact and its counterpart—China Association for International Friendly Contact—will pave the way for a very busy avenue of friendship in the years to come.Thank you!

Sth related to EXPO or city1. Describe one place of interest in your hometown.A: Shanghai is a modern city with lots of places of interest such as Yu Garden, the oriental pearl tv tower ,nanjing road and so on. but among all these places, the bund is my favorite one as it has been the symbol of shanghai for hundreds of years. More than 100 years ago, some famous foreign architects built masterpieces there of various building styles. Nowadays, when you walk around in the bund, you can experience the exotic atmosphere as well as enjoy the beautiful huangpu river .in a word, the bund is a place where Chinese culture and foreign cultures meet together. It really creates a history.2. talk about the changes in shanghai.A: With the development of science and technology, Shanghai is developing more and more quickly. As a Shanghainese , it is wonderful to see that Shanghai has changed a lot. Many years ago, there were still no big bridges and wide roads. Now , we can find big bridges, wide roads everywhere. People used to live in small rooms in narrow streets , but now most of them are living in big housing estates. Shanghai is also more beautiful than it used to be. Nowadays, you can see grass, lakes and parks here and there. In addition, the 2010 Expo will be held in Shanghai as well, This makes the foreigners pay more attention to Shanghai. We are sure that Shanghai will be more beautiful and more competitive tomorrow.3.better city, better lifeA:as we all know, the theme of Expo 2010 is "Better City, Better Life," representing a central concern of the international community for future policy making, urban strate gies and sustainable development. With the progress of our society, more and more farmers hope to go to the city and enjoy a high-quality life. So villages are becoming less and less as the area of cities are growing gradually. better city, better life. This theme has abundant meanings.it represents the common wish of the whole humankind for a better living in future urban environments.3. Do you want to be a volunteer? what do you want to do for the EXPO?A: yes, I really wanna be a volunteer. you know, the expo will held soon and thousands of visitors from home and abroad will come to shanghai. As a young student , first, we can offer visitors some help to show kindness of our people .Second ,being a volunteer give us more chances to communicate with foreign friends and introduce the culture of shanghai to them. in this way, the world will know more about china and china will know more about the world. Third, it is a golden opportunity for us to improve English by chatting with foreigners face to face .in conclusion, being a volunteer is worthwhile and it will be a precious experience in my life.4. what do you think of the expo?A:the 2010 World EX PO will be held in shanghai soon. The World Expo has a long history but it has never been held in china. So the 2010 World Expo is an honor for all Chinese people. As a student in shanghai,I am also excited about that because it is a chance for us to know more about the world and let the world know more about china. on the other hand ,the expo proves the greatness of the ―reform and opening –up policy‖,after 3 decades of hard words, we, Chinese people are eventually recognized by the globe and we will continue to make contributions to the world. Holding the world expo is one of them. In a word, I believe the coming expo will be an exceptional expo just like the bejing Olympics did.Social problems1. What can we do to make our city more beautiful?A: I think we can protect the environment to make our city more beautiful. First, we can pick up litters and put them into garbage can whenever we see. Second, we should plant more trees and flowers around us as trees can take in carbon dioxide to make air cleaner.Third, We should stop factories from pouring waste water into the river or waste gas into the air aswell .In a word, everyone should take action to protect the environment right now and make our city more beautiful because it is our duty to do so. just like ganhdi said: be the change you want to see in the world. As long as everyone pays a little more attention to the environment, it will bring a significant change.2. Are you in favour of smoking? Why or why not?A:as far as I’m concerned, smoking should be banned in public places. As we know, smoking is harmful not only to our health but also to the environment. Smoking can lead to many diseases, such as lung cancer. Smoking affects non smokers more than it does smokers. In public places, the harm of smoking is greater. This is connected with another effect of smoking. That is, smoking pollutes environment by giving much poisonous vapour off into the air. Therefore, that the government ban smoking is very necessary and important to us. It is a measure to protect our health and environment.2. What do you think of the problem of generation gap?A:In my opinion, the lack of communication, different views on certain problems and different attitudes towards life may cause the generation gap or even widen it. But how to bridge the generation gap? As far as I’m concerned, mutual understanding is very important. On one hand, parents view does reflect their concern for the well being of their children. But they should give children more freedom as they grow up and have their own views .On the other hand, children should talk with their parents and understand them well.We should respect the traditional values they brought up Therefore, it will be wise for parents and their children view each other as friends.3. Are you in favor of running red light?(queque….) Why or why not?A: as far as I’m concerned, we shouldn’t run red lights. First, it is a social law that everyone should obey. Second, with the rapid development of our society, our moral standard should be improved at the same pace.Third, running red lights is not only dangerous to us but also bring side effects to out society. Just imagine :if a child sees you run the red light, next time ,he or she will imitate that behavior .so everyone should take actions to obey the rule because it is our duty to do so. just like ganhdi said: be the change you want to see in the world. As long as everyone’s quality is improved, our society will be improved and we can expect a harmounious social environment.4. Play computer games and watch tv adsA: as far as I’m concerned , every coin has two sides. On one hand, playing computers games can make us feel relaxed after long working hours. On the other hand ,if we devote ourselves to playing computer games ,we will lose our precious time. You know, A plant may produce new flowers; man is young but once. Lost time is never found again. Most importantly, computer games contain a lot of bad things such as violent element which certainly have a negative effect on us. I think as a senior student, we are old enough to deal with study and relaxation, we can tell what is right from what is wrong .the only thing we need is discipline.5. knowledge gained from books or experienceA:"Experience is the best teacher," people say. Indeed, the most important, and sometimes the hardest lessons we learn in life come from our participation in situations. For my part, you can't learn everything from a book. And only practice makes you a successful person. In conclusion, knowledge gained both from experience and from books have their r espective roles to play in our life. However, in my view, I think the former one is more important than the latter one. The most important lessons can't be taught; they have to be experienced.6. team work or individual work.A:Nowadays, almost everyone has taken into the teamwork and teamwork is more and mor e important than before.as far as I’m concerned, it is necessary to work with a nice team.first, Teamwork can gather more useful information. second, Teamwork makes people put things into their right perspective.third, Teamwork makes people take things into consideration comprehensively. Most importantly, teamwork could strengthen the responsibility of the team members. In a word,Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team worka company work, a society work, a civilization work.7.Willing to help othersA:Disabled people are normal people, except that they can not see as much as we can, or they can not walk as fast as we can.Since they can not see as much, or they can not walk as fast, they need our help.We can immediately do a long list of ways in which we can help them, for instance, Each student finds someone to help, in the neighborhood or the community. You can help them to cross the road. You can help pushtheir wheel chairs. as Winston church said:from what we get,we make a living, from what we give ,we make a life.so I hope everyone can have a wonderful and meaningful life by giving others a helping hand when they are in trouble.PERSONAL QUESTIONS1. watch tvA: i enjoy watching tv ,especially news report. Almost everyday I turn on the TV at 6:30 p.m. and wait for the news program. This has become a part of my life. The News Report contains a large amount of information from the international political situation to the latest foot-ball game. And the most important character is its fast pace. In my opinion, the News Report is more than a TV program. It is a way of communication. Through this program, people can know and understand world affairs. The world thus becomes smaller and smaller. I really appreciate this kind of benenfit.2. your favorite book or movieA:my favorite book/film is je. It tells us a beautiful story. Je, is a poor girl, She lived in her aunt’s house. But Her aunt didn’t like her, so she was taken to an orphanage. When Jane grew up, she worked as a governess in a big family. Bit by bit, Jane and her master Mr Rochester came to fall in love with each other. But the master had a wife. She was a madwoman. When Jane knew this, she left her teaching post. Afterwards,j’s mas ter’ house was burnt down and R became disabledd. His mad wife also died in the big fire. However,Jane decided to get married with him and look after him.as a girl,I learned a lot from this story,it shows mehumanity, equality, and equality in a girl’s spirit which I will treasure forever.3.your favorite way of relaxingA:Students need enough sports and activities to do physical exercises to relax, proper recreation will relieve the tension and discomfort of our busy life because it offers you various ways to let out your emotions. What I usually do to relax after school is jogging. Usually I don't spare time for exercise, but I value the PE class at school. You know,Jogging several rounds in the field certainly relieves my pressure. on the other hand, jogging makes me healthier and stronger as it strengthens my immune system. besides, I learn endurance from jogging which has a positive effect on my study .whatever problems I met,I can still hang in there.3. computersA:the invention of computers is one of the greatest humankind's inventions. It plays a very important role in our modern life. First of all, every company nowadays uses a computer to store its data and make different kinds of operations. it is very difficult to imagine life without computers. Secondly, computers provided a great means of communication - the Internet. Finally, in addition to these practical benefits people can go shopping without leaving their houses. With an Internet access, a computer and an online credit card, more and more people finish their shopping at home. In sum, I believe that computers made our lives easier. They change our attitude towards life and make people became closer.4.classmatesA:Every time I talk with others about my friends, I just refer to those I have met in my high School times. Because I had so many close friends around me, meanwhile, I could get on well with every one of them. When I just became a Senior three student, I had to face the Entrance Examination for College. E very friend of mine had the same dream to enter a famous university! Our main task was to study all day long, to solve so many difficult problems that we came across in the examination papers. If we had any puzzle on the solution to the questions, we could often turn to our classmates for help. and we lived in such an extremely harmonious atmosphere that few of us would forget this period of life.as Benjamin franklin said:if you want to be loved, love and be lovable.5.. teacher student relationshipA:A good teacher-student relationship will make learning enjoyable and well mutually understandable. Whereas, a had relationship can discourage the student from learning and make teaching an unpleasant task. To build a better relationship with students,The teachers should change their traditional education-concepts and respect dignity of students.and as a student,we should communicate with our teachers more often to reduce misunderstandings. On the other hand, when teachers make mistakes, we should point out them politely. in a word, it is undoubtedly necessary to build a equal and harmonious relationship between teachers and students.7. school activitie sA:Nowadays,a large number of students show great interest in school activities. In their eyes, learning from books is not the sole task of their school career. They also wish to take every chance to obtain practical knowledge.Additionally, they find that after long hours of study, they can relax both physically and mentally by taking part in school activities. As far as I’m concerned, We can learn plenty of things from the students we meet in activities. What’s more,we can also get lots of social experience from doing so.Such experience can never be learned by being a ―book-worm.‖8. how to learn EnglishA: I began to learn English at the age of seven. At that time, I enjoyed learning pronunciation and tone though I hadn’t fully understood how to use grammar properly. After class, I listened to English tapes again and again. Gradually, I began to regard English as part of my life: I listened to the BBC or Voice of America news while having breakfast; read an English newspaper at breaks and got additional practice in the language chatting with foreign friends online on the weekends. In order to broaden my horizon, I created my “twitter”account last April where I met people from all walks of life: writers, officials, teachers, businessmen… Even Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California, followed me on Twitter. I find that English makes my life more colorful and interesting. As I chatted with these English-speaking people, I realized that even though we are from different countries and have various cultures, we can still be good friends because of our common values. These values include things like justice, responsibility, honesty, care and love.I believe that these core qualities make a person welcome in any cultures no matter where he or she is from.1 liu xiangPeople can’t forget it was in Athens Olympic when liuxiang won the gold medal.his outstanding behavior amazed the world world .4 years later, however.in Beijing Olympics,he quit the game because of his injury. many people felt really sad about that. But I think He who wins the most challengeable honor is a hero, he who wins the billions of people‘s hearts is a hero, he who has the courage to take a chance of losing these--honor ,is more than a hero! Liu xiang is more than a hero! We should give him as much support as before.2 economy and pollutionI think people should deal with the relationship between the gdp increase and ecological development. The GDP increase which is achieved at the cost of sacrificing human living environment and destroying our valuable natural resources is undoubtedly ridiculous.but how to fine the balance between these two things?from my point of view, first, laws should be made as soon as possible to make sure that our industry works sustainably.second, everyone should take action to use clean energy.in a word,it is of great importance to pay more attention to our pollution problems to create a better future.-3.expo and environmentI think expo gives us a chance to pay more attention to our environment since this expo is a green expo. In fact, Green is the eternal theme of humanity, green is the color of life. It is necessary to hold a green expo to promote sustainable development. We should do little things, and actively involved in green travel, green concept of exhibition, green consumption, green living. Visitors should give priority to public transportation to visit the Expo.better city, better life.let us act now to make our city shines with dazzling light.4 i n my opinion, just like the old saying ―every coin has its two sides‖, it maybe hard for me to decide where to live. The life in the city and in the countryside has both ad vantages and disadvantages. On one hand, I like the convenient service in the city, although I hate the noisy and crowded pollution. On the other hand, I enjoy the quiet and peace ful life in the countryside while I have to pay the price for inconvenience. In a word, I think the ideal style of life maybe working in the city and living in the countryside.5. After China became the Official member in W TO, and the Reform & Opening up Policy is being implemented deeper and deeper, English, as a major tool for cross-cultural communication draws everyone’s attention. People in China have been aware of this trend,so learning English has become a very important task for young students.though some people doubted that learning English may let kids forget their mother tongue, I don’t think so,English is a basic skill in such a globlized world.in a word, since English is widely used, you can’t emphasis too much of the importance of learning English.5. attend extra lessonsnowadays, many parents spend a lot of money on childrens’ attending training classes.it's true that a training class or a tutor can be helpful to a student.Hower,as a matter of fact,I don't think they are necessary. The reasons are as follows. First, students can grasp all the knowledge in their normal classes as long as they put their heart into it.Second,if a student can't do well in class, how can they in a training class? On the contrary, studying at home can improve their own study ability. Most importantly, students also need some time to relax themselves, all work no play, makes jack a dull boy.Personally , I would rather not have training class.6. pandaDuring the Cold War the panadas were given as goodwill gestures, to such a degree that the term "panda diplomacy" was coined to describe the exchange of these funny ambassadors. It's a symbol of friendship and peace. It's cute and cuddly, and sends all the right messages of goodwill," when you see their lovely faces, you really wanna hug them.most importantly ,no other countries have pandas except china.and pandas are rare,as a result, they are precious.in a word ,I think pandas can be a nice gift .7 bicycleBicycles are widely used in china because Vast majority of chinese live not far from their offices or schools,so riding a bike will be convenient than taking a bus.on the other hand, since bicycles are quite cheap, every family could own a bike.most importantly, riding bicycle is a good way of doing st but not least, Riding bicycle can save the energy resources.just imagine: There are 13 hundred million people in china. If every family owns a car, that would be a big waste of resources ,bringing serious air pollution.in a word, riding bicycles should be encouraged.8 pocket moneyNowadays,if children do well in examinations, parents will give them pocket money as a kind of reward.from where I stand ,it is ridiculous to do so. First, studying hard is a responsibility for a kid to shoulder.he or she must be responsible for what he or she has done.second, giving pocket money isn’t the right way to encourage children to study harder,on the contrary, that will result in a bad influence on children’s st but not least, giving too much pocket money to a child may spoil this kid since children are too young to deal with financial problems .so in a word,we shouldn’t give children pocket money by judging their marks.but we should provide more guidance for them.。

I would like to thank the People's Government of Sichuan for inviting us to attend this important event where government leaders from Beijing and twelve other provinces meet to discuss strategies for developing China's Western Region. This event reflects the strong commitment of the Government and the people of China to develop the Western Region. I am very impressed with the enthusiasm and determination demonstrated not only by the public sectors, but also by the private sectors in supporting the Western development goals set forth by the Government. The purpose of my current visit to China is to evaluate recent economic developments in China, and discuss with Chinese leaders the World Bank Group's assistance strategy for China after its entry into the WTO. I started my visit two days ago in the western province of Yunnan and have now come to Sichuan. I have seen good examples of how the World Bank Group can offer assistance to the Government and the private sectors to develop China's West. There are 11 provinces, autonomous regions and one municipality in west China, with a total area of about 6.8 million square kilometers and a population of 364 million. The Government's desire to accelerate the development of the western provinces is vital to the success of achieving a sustained growth for China in the long run. There are also challenges, however, that should not be overlooked. These include continued efforts to create and improve the business environment. But I amconfident that these challenges will be met.In closing, I would like to thank the Government of Sichuan for its support to World Bank and IFC operations in Sichuan. We look forward to working with all of you to contribute to the development of China's West and to improve people's lives in this important part of the country. Never could we have imagined five years ago that we would have come so far in so short a time. But here we are at the end of year five, and what a fantastic year it has been. Let me review our achievements in these five years. We've published some very impressive articles, each month somehow surpassing the quality and depth of the previous month's edition. Our creative and talented staff won five writing awards and seven photographic awards. This year some 119,000 people subscribed to our magazine. I feel that the acceptance of our magazine by people is the most rewarding aspect of this project.About six years ago we had an idea for a nature-oriented magazine, but we all had doubts about the general acceptance of the idea, whether there would be enough interest from people to sustain us. We assembled the finest people we could find and decided, from the start, to produce the highest quality product we possibly could.Today, it's a wonderful feeling to know that we have succeeded, and everyone here shares the credit for making this magazine what it has become. While it is a formidable task for us all, I'm sure that next year at this time we'll have more awards, and more subscribers, and feel an even greater sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.Directions: Now listen again. Despite these huge increases in the number of students, statistics show that the percentage of China's population that has received higher education is only around 5 percent of the nation's total, lagging far behind the developed countries. Undoubtedly, as more and more people receive higher education, today's university and college students will face increasingly intense competition in the market.Guidelines for ExamineesGraded Test for English Majors — Band 8Oral TestThe oral test for the fourth-year English majors is designed to assess your oral interpretation skills and your ability to speak English.
