The Promise Of Music
What things can music bring to our life? I am not a crazy lover of music. But music is a indispensable part of my life. I remembered that when I was a junior in high school, under big pressure of college entrance examination, music is one of my few hobbies. I am interested in all kinds of music, country, popular, classical music and so on.. I like the tone of flute and Pipa. Every time when I listened the music <nightingale> by Yanni, it gives me the feeling of serenity.
After learned more than half course of classical music this semester, my heart changed invisibly. I found myself can feel more from the music. Especially the music works of Wagner and Tchaikovsky. They corporate deep meaning and I just addicted to it. Recently I am listening the music of Tchaikovsky and I really like the delicate emotion with struggling and love in it.
For me, “music is a delusion”, it makes me forget everything except myself and be intoxicated with self-satisfaction. Even at the time I was very Negative and decadent ,it can bring hope to me. I can for sure it is not real, but I do really need it. For those kids in the documentary, what music gives them not only delusion but promise. It gives them an opportunity to keep a pure heart even in a fearful environment. These children gain happiness and hope from musical instrument and songs.
At the beginning of the documentary it is a piece of light and happy music. Young people danced in bright clothes while playing, they are very happy. Later on, we saw a real scene of the street of Venezuela. It is hard to imagine those band members were getting up in this place like a refugee.
As a small country in Latin America, 75 percent population of Venezuela are in poor and violence and crime is a big social issue and few people cared about culture. Many people worried
about the young people. It was the program Sistema changed the situation. Now there are many Tube rotating bands and symphony Orchestras in Venezuela which save them from violence and crime.
Everyone is equal in front of music. No one can stop the enthusiasm of these children. They come from different place and social class but they all love music. It was the music give them a chance to challenge themselves and chang their life. Without music and Sistema, for most of them live in a environment of high crime rate, they would have a totally different life.
After I have seen the documentary, I thought a lot about music or art and its influence on people. May be less and less people listen to classical music nowadays, but I still want to learn more about it, for the promise of music to us is endless.。
