Report of interpretation practiceLast two week, from 18th June till today, we did a lot of meaningful tasks, through all these tasks, we learned so many different things which are far more useful than what we read from test books. It is true that practice makes perfect. If we want to be an good interpreter, there still so many stones in our way, we should work much hard to achieve our goal. This interpret practice made me realized that I have a long way to go.The first day, all of us get together in the room at 8 o'clock, we divided into small groups, I felt very glad to join group 2, my team members are ease to get well with, they are smart and have the sense of humor, in these 14 days, we had a happy time together. Our first task is to represent Premier Wen's press conference, we spent a whole day to collect all the related informations, discussed details together, when I saw the question "People have paid much attention to the recent round of housing market regulation. We have seen a strong resolve and tough measure taken by the central authorities. Home prices in some Chinese cities have started to level off. I would like to ask how much does the home price need to drop for which to be considered as meeting the regulation target. And with economic slowdown and pressure of local finances, will this round of regulation measures be abandoned half way?" I was quite impress by Premier Wen's answer. He said" I have recognized that the housing market concerns the fiscal financial and land policies of the government as well as interests of companies. It evolves the relationship between the central and local governments, in particular it evolves the large mount of revenue of local government from the transfer of land use right. It also concerns the interests of financial institutions and the real estate developers. Our reform on this front has encountered massive resistance.what do we mean by bringing home prices back to a reasonable level? What we mean is that a reasonable housing price should mate people’s income, the construction cost and the profits should be reasonable too. At present, the home price in China is far from coming back to a reasonable level. Therefore we must not slack off in our efforts in regulating the housing sector. Otherwise half the gains will be lost and there will be chaos in China's housing sector. That is not in the interests of promoting the long term steady and sound growth of the housing market in our country." when I see this, I felt something warm raise from the bottom of my heart, people of this country still have hope, because the premier stands beside them. Our second task is a brief introduction about our university. Miss Qiu, miss Zhang, miss Zhao and I was responsible for the part of library. We searched the internet, took pictures for this task, after that I know that the library of Southwest Forestry University was built in 1978, and moved into the new library in November, 2003. The new library has a construction area of 14800 Square meters, with 11 reading room of different functions, 2 student lounges, 2 academic lecture halls, and 4 multimedia classrooms. Among the library, there are 796 layouts of information points, as well as 1616 reading seats. At present, the literary has a collection of more than 1.38 million volumes of books, and 306,000 volumes of electronic books. The main body is constructed by forestry science, biology science, wood science, forest engineering, environmental science, landscape gardening and other professional literature. At the same time, it also has books of the law, management, foreign language literature, art design science and other specialties as literature guarantee system and the library homepage also set a message board and curator readersbox, so that librarian can communicate with students at any time. The third task is related to the Herbarium Museum, to tell the truth it is the first time for me to visit the Herbarium Museum even though I have been here for 3 years. I saw many valuable things there, all the samples are the epitomes of time and history. My job is to collect informations about snakes. After read the materials, I know that reptiles are the first kind of vertebrates w hich could survive without living in the water all their lifetime. They can adapt to the different terrestrial environment. Reptiles rule the world in a very long period of time, but now, many of them died out, only a few survived mainly are Emydidae(龟), Trionychidae (鳖) , Serpentiformes (蛇),Sauria (蜥), Crocodylia(鳄). Now, I even know how to tell if a snake is poisonous. The last task is a free visit, our group went to WENHUA V ALLY. WENHUA Alley is also called the”foreigners street of Kunming”. Some foreigners even call this place as the left shore of Kunming. The history behind WENHUA ALLEY is much more alluring after many ups and downs, writing its own blossom.War of aggression against China made people suffered o lot, during the hard times, many talented literati came here and established the related agencies, and these agencies are within 1KM of YUNNAN UNIVERSITY. At that time, WENHUA Alley was the place which the students of YNU were live in. in those years, teachers went through the alley very frequently, so, and the alley was named as WENHUA ALLEY. Nowadays, houses built in that time have been demolished, but the function of this alley has been kept for long. There are bookstores, coffee and all kinds of shops opening for students. Now, because of the foreign students of Y unnan University which brings foreign atmosphere here, it is also called "Foreigner Street". As the selling point, this place attract a large clouds of students near by which makes commercial and cultural atmosphere here interweave, created a fantastic mixture of old KUNMING city and the new colorful foreign culture. Thanks Mr.Wang spent so many time with us, after these practices, I find that how interpreter works and I know how to communicate with people with different characters. The world is much bigger and contains much more new things we didn't know than we thought, we had better learn to be modest and prudent, otherwise, we can't go for long.

Title: My Experience and Insights from an Interpreting Course Introduction:Taking an interpreting course has been an enriching experience for me as it not only sharpened my language skills but also provided me with invaluable insights into the art of interpretation. This essay aims to outline my journey through the course and highlight the key lessons I learned during this period.Theoretical Knowledge:One of the most significant aspects of the interpreting course was the foundational knowledge I acquired. Through intensive study and practice, I gained valuable insight into the principles of interpretation, such as first understanding the speaker's message before rendering it in the target language. Furthermore, I learned about different interpreting techniques, such as simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation, which allowed me to develop a versatile approach to interpretation.Language Skills Improvement:One of the main objectives of this interpreting course was to enhance my language skills, and it did just that. Throughout the course, I was constantly required to read, listen, and speak in both my native language and the target language. Consequently, my vocabulary expanded, and my overall proficiency in both languages improved significantly. Not only did this help me during the interpreting exercises, but it also had a positive impact on my daily communication skills.Real-Life Training:Another aspect that made this interpreting course exceptional was the inclusion of real-life training opportunities. We had the chance to participate in mock conferences, meetings, and even attended court sessions to observe professional interpreters in action. These practical exercises provided valuable exposure to various scenarios, enabling us to develop critical skills such as active listening, quick thinking, and optimal utilization of interpreting techniques. Improving Interpretation Skills:Throughout the course, we were given ample opportunities to practice interpretation in real-time. This included both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation exercises where we were required to convey the speaker's message accurately and promptly. These exercises not only challenged our linguistic abilities but also trained us to deal with the stress and pressure associated with real interpreting assignments. By receiving constructive feedback from instructors and fellow students, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses and work on improving them.Cultural Sensitivity and Contextual Awareness:The importance of cultural sensitivity and contextual awareness was emphasized throughout the course. I learned that effective interpretation goes beyond language proficiency. Understanding the cultural nuances, context, and subtext behind a speaker's words proved to be essential in accurately conveying their message. This lesson allowed me to shift my focus from mere translation to interpreting the speaker's intended meaning while considering the cultural and social implications associated with their words. Conclusion:Participating in an interpreting course has been an invaluable experience for me. It not only improved my language skills but also provided me with a deeper understanding of the art of interpretation. From theoretical knowledge to practical training, this course equipped me with the necessary tools and techniques to become a skilled interpreter. Additionally, it instilled within me the importance of cultural sensitivity and contextual understanding, enabling me to effectively bridge the gap between languages and cultures. Overall, this course has not only honed my interpreting abilities but also broadened my horizons in regards to cross-cultural communication.。

My Learning Feedback of the Interpreting Course It’s really lucky for me to have taken the course ofinterpreting skills this term, because this course really benefits me a lot.Above all, my listening skills have been improved to a much higher level than before through interpreting learning. We all know that, without a good listening to catch what the speakers say in source language, it would be impossible for us interpreters to transform it into the target language. Listening is the first and primary step for English learners to be a good interpreter. Keeping this realization in the mind, I pay my special attention to the study of listening. In the class, the routine of news listening always reminds me of the importance of listening towards this course. After class, I insist on spending one or two hours every day listening BBC, VOA, CNN, CRI or any other English resource I can get to practice English listening. With nearly a term’s perseverant efforts, you can imagine the progress that has been made. Nowadays, I have less difficulty in understanding what foreigners say in daily life. I can still follow speakers without referring to the Chinese translation when I watch movies. It is the Interpreting Course that pushes me to listen to English every day so as to avoid being rusty on the skills.I appreciate this class, not only because it helps to improve my listening ability, but also it makes me form a habit of listening to English every day. We are not English native speakers, so it is preeminently important for us learners to listen to it all the time so that we can immense ourselves in the atmosphere surrounded by English language. In the following days, the good habit will continueto accompany me. Keep listening, and I believe one day my listening skills will reach the level that a qualified interpreter should do.The second benefit I have got from the class is the improvementof my spoken English. Admittedly, an interpreter must be bilingually capable of not only listening but also speaking. Interpretingrequires you to express in target language what you’ve got from the source language on the basis of understanding. In this sense, only being a good listener is not enough at all. When I knew the fact in the first class of this course, I really felt a big challenge infront of me. Spoken English was always my strongest weakpoint. Each time I tried to speak out English, the poor pronunciation and intonation can not be endured even by myself, still less by my listeners. So I chose to shut up my mouth. Avoid speaking it and then you would avoid discomfort and being frustrated by it, which was always the way I used to comfort myself before taking the class. However, things change now. The Interpreting Course is different from the courses we have learnt before. In the class of listening, reading, grammar and writing, most of the time is spent listening to the teachers’ speech and no one will blame you if you choose to be silent. In this course, however, you have to speak out English, whether you like it or not. At first, I was forced to speak Englishin the class. Gradually, I dared to practice interpreting and now I feel easy when hearing my own voice. Although my spoken English isfar away from the requirements a good interpreter needs to meet, I am still pleased with the progress I’ve made now because I believe that “Well begun is half done” and “Practice makes perfect.”The most important and direct harvest I achieve from the courseis certainly the theory and skills of interpreting. The issues of how to take notes in interpretation, how to memorize the information andwhat manners interpreters should have are all covered in this course.A good mastery of these skills undoubtedly will smooth the way for interpreters to do their job. However, there still exist some problems after taking the class.Firstly, I find that different regional accents that English speakers have are the big obstacle for us English learners to overcome. We have indeed studied the foreign language for many years, but just focused on the standard English. So, when we listen to some non-standard English in our coursebook, we can hardly understand what the speakers are saying, not to mention interpret it. This gives us a reminder that you need to have a good mastery of different kinds of varieties of English, not just the Standard English if you as an interpreter want to perform well on different occasions.Secondly, the huge psychology stress is also a big problem we always meet when interpreting. When we learn the course, actually, we do the job in an ideal environment. We just listen to the sound recordings and interpret to ourselves. What only matters is our professional skill. However, interpreting in the real situation is not such a simple case at all. Psychology stress is a good example. The occasion, the persons you serve for, the atmosphere, all these things may cause your tension during your job and therefore bring a bad effect on your performance. Mistakes, embarrassment caused by stage fright occur very often. So, what we should do now to help us overcome psychology stress in the future’s interpreting job Maybe, the best way is just to put yourself in the real situation. The more you have experienced, the more capable you would become of dealing with unexpected conditions. Therefore, if I’m asked whether I have some advice for our teaching, this is all I want to say—creating some chances for students to practice their interpreting theory andskills in the practical use. Possibly if will be a tough job, but it really can benefit students a lot!.。
