People expect me to be fearful for the future of print. After al I, in some people,s minds I wou 1 dn,t be able to bui Id a career in journal ism if it al 1 moves online. However, strangely enough, I’ m actually comforted by the fact that online journalism is becoming usual. I am ablogger who has always been able to find a home for my writing online.Since T began wri ting blogs, T have become aware of how many people you can reach with online writing. Compare this to the newspapers? circulation base, and you will have a strong reason for online journalism・In her successful blog post titled The job I have spent the last year learning is not the one T wi 11 have, author Jenny Surane states, u Print is an expensi ve product to love・And general managers, publishers and editors must now figure out a profitable way to gettheir news into readers? heads. ” She goes on to state that people don" t feel like picking up a newspaper now and would rather scroll (滚屏)through their Twitter feed, and get news from many different sources.Tf print is dying, then a new form of communicating information is being born. The need for information has not died. Tf anything, it has increased・ What has died, rather, is the way in which information is presented・Now more than ever, in this age of information, there is a desire for stories on the same topic from different points of view. Wildlife Protection李仕才***阅读理解。

Volunteering Is FunOne afternoon I was sitting at home feeling so bored.Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I wanted to meet people and have new experiences so I decided to start volunteering.I searched on my computer and found a website where I could volunteer on a farm in France. My time working on a farm was a new experience for me.It was basically a free holiday as food and accommodation were provided. However,it was not your typical holiday as I had to look after fifteen horses and sleep at the top of a tower in a castle!I was an awful farmer but it did not matter because I made some great friends. However, you do not need to go abroad to volunteer.I have had plenty of adventures at home as volunteering can become a hobby. For example,I love singing so I had a good laugh waving my arms in an attempt to conduct my local choir.I did slowly improve and it felt great to conduct the choir in a concert. At university,I organised a concert for charity with my friends. It was really fun founding bands and raising money for a cause we believe in.It is true that you feel good volunteering but there are also other advantages.I once volunteered as a server at a charity sports event where the organizers gave me cupcakes to thank me for my services.I also volunteered in a charity shop so I found loads of nice cheap clothes to update my wardrobe(衣柜).While this is all fun,my favourite aspect of volunteering is creating and sharing stories. My terrible attempts at farming have given me hilarious stories to tell!Talking to volunteers from different countries and backgrounds has also helped me learn more about the world.I feel thankful to have had so much fun with many nice people thanks to volunteering.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。

Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才***阅读理解“Clothes Swapping” is an activity which has become increasingly popular among American women. At a clothes swap event the women can give away unwanted clothing and get something different in return.Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield,Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area's popular clothingswapping group.Daphne Steinberg was having a good day.“For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT,Ann Taylor is a really good women's designer and I will totally wear this to work.So I love that, and I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it,and not totally bankrupt(使破产)myself.”Sandy Van Dusen likes the idea that clothes are finding new homes instead of being thro wn away.“Because it helps to keep the Earth green. There's no point in my opinion in continuing to buy new clothes when we can reuse what are already here.Give them a new home—let somebody else love what you used to love and no longer love.”Kim Pratt organized the clothes swap event in Springfield. She also organized a moneyraising activity for the high school's debate team.It is one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes.Another is by donating all of the “unswapped” clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence.“I started doing this four years ago, and we've been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.”She used the social media website to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300.Ms.Pratt says most of the members respect the clothing swap rules. But she says competition for desirable fashion can be strong.“We have to tell people sometimes not to hover(徘徊)over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like a freeforall. We try to avoid that as much as possible.”1.Women can ________ at a clothes swap.A.exchange unwanted clothing for something differentB.buy whatever clothing they likeC.have a social gathering and make friendsD.make some money by giving away unwanted clothing2.We can learn from what Daphne Steinberg said that ________.A.she had been to a clothes swap for the first timeB.she experienced the largest clothes swap ever in the areaC.she got some clothes she likes at the clothes swapD.she saved much more money than she had expected3.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?A.What Kim Pratt did with the unswapped clothing.B.How Kim Pratt started the clothes swap event.C.What Kim Pratt did to help people in need.D.How Kim Pratt raised money to help charitable causes.4.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ________.A.clothes swaps are often out of control in the endB.inappropriate behavior at clothes swaps needs to be controlledC.clothes swapping is becoming increasingly popular with American women D.more clothes swap events need to be organized【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

Wildlife Protection李仕才***阅读理解。

We know a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of reading a hard-copy book vs. reading electronically. The problem is, many of us refuse to listen.Don’t get me wrong: Digital reading has some real advantages. Ask pe ople what they like most about reading on digital screens, and you hear over and over again about convenience. More points for digital reading:ebooks tend to be cheaper. There’s also the environmental argument. Think of the trees!Yet the soundness of this case is arguable. The earth metals to build e-readers are not just rare but highly poisonous. And think about all that energy needed to run servers and cooling fans. And remember, trees are a renewable resource. Then, there’s the appeal of a hard copy. M any people prefer print when reading both for pleasure and for school or work. Drawing examples from my own research, some of the reasons are aesthetic(美学的). Others involve a sense of accomplishment, ease of annotation(“I can write on the pages”), and navigation(“easy to locate where I was”). Meanwhile, I hear abundant complaints about eye strain(眼疲劳) and headaches when using screens.Much of what students liked about reading print involved their minds. They say “it’s easier to focus”. Some also acknowledge d they took more time with printed text and read more carefully. But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration. More than 92% of those I surveyed said they concentrated best when reading a hard copy. When a digital device has an Interne t connection, it’s hard to resist the temptation(诱惑).So if digital interruptions don’t threaten your enjoyment or understanding of a text, then medium may not matter. Casual reading like David Baldacci? If you break to checksports scores, there will be l ittle harm done. But just don’t expect to understand Joyce’s novels this way.【解题导语】文章主要介绍了在网络高度发达的社会中,电子书愈来愈有替代纸质书的趋势,然而作者通过对比两者的优缺点表达了对纸质书的青睐。
