These reforms included allowing foreign banks to offer credit cards to Chinese citizens. Now, researchers at the University of Missouri(MU) have found about 30% of Chinese urban households now own at least one credit card and the growth rate of credit adoption has been an average of 40% per year between 2004 and 2009.Rui Yao, an assistant professor of personal financialplanning at MU, says that this large growth in such a small amount of time has positive and negative implications for the Chinese economy.“With more and more people taking advantage of credit cards in China, it certainly increases potential consumer buying power,” Yao said. “However, we found that more than 90% of credit card users were unaware of safety issues existing in credit card use and more than 60% had little knowledge of the consequences of credit card debt. This lack of knowledge could create problems as credit card ownership is expected to grow at a rate of 11% a year.”Yao found that while 72% of Chinese credit card holders were never late on their payment, only 55% were able to pay the full balance. She also found that 70% of Chinese credit card holders said that credit cards contributed to overspending.Yao believe that Chinese could benefit from financial education designed to help them plan for their financial future and encouraging the Chinese to take advantage of debt in a responsible fashion is important for the Chinese economy. “Appropriate use of debt can help households improve their quality of life as well as spur economic growth through an increase in market purchases,” Yao said.32. Why did China allow foreign banks to offer credit cards to Chinese citizens?A. To increase Chinese citizen’s confidence in economyB. To respond to the urgent demand for financial reformsC. To persuade more Chinese citizens to accept credit cardsD. To improve competitiveness in the international market33. There’s an old phrase saying, "Those who can’t do,teach.”But if you have a really teacher, you just might be attracted to following in that instructor's footsteps. No time in my life was rougher than going from a small grade school to Texas middle school. All the other boys lived within walking distance of the school. I was the only one who lived across the mountain, in a completely different environment. But in seventh grade,we had David Lombrana ,who taught about every subject that wasn’ maths or science. His brother Vicente, another good teacher, got those two. Mr. Lombrana let us have a love of literature, but it was tough for me,as a fan of history,to read fictional stories. But he introduced us to Jack London,Mark Twain, John Steinbeck and Edgar Allan Poe. He would spend the last few minutes of the day reading a short story of his favorite author: Erskine Caldwell. ll the stories were either funny or interesting, making you not put the story down until you had finished it. But what we didn't realize was that there was a moral to each one. He also instructed us when we needed to hear the truth. Mr. Lombrana followed me and several students to a local high school, where he helped to build a top speech and debate team before leaving for Houston,Texas.Nowadays, we keep in touch by Facebook . Amazingly,we both remember those days like they were yesterday. I was fortunate to have more than one good teacher in life, ranging from teachers in grade school to researchers in college and graduate school. These teachers worked hard to make me use all of my potential. But it was Mr. Lombrana who was the first to get me thinking that being a teacher could be something special.21 .What does the old phrase meanA. Anyone can be a teacher.B. Your dinner will now be served. That is the message being sent to customers at a New York City restaurant. In the restaurant, all people are forbidden to talk during the meal.Nicholas Nauman .head chef at Eat in Brooklyn, said that he was inspired by the tight-lipped consumption after spending some time in India, where Buddhist monks take their breakfast without exchanging words.“It’s just an opportunity to enjoy food in a way you might not have otherwise ,”said the chef, noting that the sounds of forks on dishes and cook s in the kitchen provide some background noise to the experience. The silent一dining experience, experts said, seems to fit with other attention 一getting tricks that many restaurant owners and chefs often adopt in the generally known competitive restaurant business. One polite customer walked out of the door to sneeze in order to avoid breaking the silence. Another could barely hold back a strong case of laughing. Fur and feathers tend to win over creepy-crawlies(爬行类昆虫).’,The hedgehog has long been popular in the UK. It's generally seen as a hard-working and friendly animal.
