Period Two Learning about Language

Hearing the noise,I turned round.(=When I heard the noise/When hearing the noise,I turned round.)

Having turned off the TV set,he began to go over his lessons.(=After having turned off the TV set/After he had turned off the TV set,he began to go over his lessons.)

Having lived in the village for years,I know everyone quite well.(=Because I have lived in the village for years,I know everyone quite well.)

The child fell, striking his head against the door and cutting it.(=The child fell,as a result,he struck his head against the door and cut it.)

Working diligently,you’ll certainly succeed.(=If you work diligently,you’ll certainly succeed.)

Generally speaking,Japanese cars are very reliable and breakdowns are rare.

Judging by her last letter, they are having a wonderful time.

Taking everything into consideration, you should leave.

Having so little time, there was not much that I could do.

Being French,it’s surprising that she’s such a terrible cook.

Supposing you are wrong, what will you do then?假设你错了,那你会怎么办?(supposing为连词,意为“假若”,也可用suppose)Given their inexperience, they’ve done a good job.
