It was first published in the year 1904, authored by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but it still connects to today’s world where we forget to live in the present. It tells of the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan (孤儿)girl who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea. The novel describes how Anne makes her way with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town. The book teaches me a lot of things, the most important being — to be who you are. Why do we need to pretend to be somebody else and project a false image of ourselves to look better? We need to realize that we are all different in our own way and accept ourselves first. As is described in the book, Anne is a colorful and ever-growing character. She “has as many shades as a rainbow and every shade is the prettiest while it lasts.” Each aspect of her personality is beautiful, which makes her unique and interesting.Another important concept that is illustrated remarkably well is the importance of taking joy in the world around us. Anne’s obvious wonder-struck appreciation of life made me truly appreciate the small things. Here is my favourite quote (引言) from Chapter 19:I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.Anne’s influence has deeply shaped who I am today. This classic novel truly highlights the importance of self-love and gratitude. With its uplifting and refreshing story, it is a wonderful read for people of all ages seeking a joyful and enriching literary journey.24.What do we know about Anne of Green Gables?A.It is a recent release.B.It covers real events.C.It is a timeless classic.D.It features world history.25.What can we learn about Anne from paragraph 3?A.She is true to herself.B.She achieves her goal.C.She is talented in drawing.D.She cares about others.26.Which of the following best matches the quote from Chapter 19?A.Time waits for no man.B.Do one thing at a time.C.Fortune favours the brave.D.Stop and smell the roses.27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To tell a story.B.To remember a writer.C.To teach a lesson.D.To recommend a book.Theo works days, nights, and weekends in the tulip (郁金香) fields in the Netherlands and never complains about tired muscles. How is this possible? Theo, named after a retired farmer, is a high-tech robot in the battle to root out disease from the fields. The robot rolls along rows of yellow and red tulips, checking each plant and, when necessary, killing diseased bulbs (鳞茎) to prevent the spread of the tulip-breaking virus (病毒). The virus weakens the bulb, leaving them unable to flower. The dead bulbs are removed from healthy ones in a sorting center after they have been harvested. There are 45 robots like Theo working in the tulip fields of the Netherlands. Their job becomes important as the winter turns to spring and peak season nears, when people come from around the world to admire the colorful flowers. In the past, this work was carried out by knowledgeable farmers. Allan Visser is a third-generation tulip farmer who is using the robot. “You could buy a very nice sports car for the price of the robot,” Visser said. The robot costs 185,000 euros. “It’s a lot slower than a sports car, rolling on caterpillar tracks through fields,” he added. “But I choose the robot because a sports car doesn’t see the sick tulips. Now there are fewer and fewer people who can really do that.”The robots have been trained to detect sick plants. They have cameras and take thousands of photos of the tulips. Their AI model examines the photos, hunting out signs on sick plants, and decides which ones need to be killed. The engineer explains the robots use GPS to be sure they are destroying the correct tulips. The heart of the machine is the knowledge put into the AI model, which comes from experienced tulip farmers like Theo van der Voort, who gave his name to the robot.Van der Voort retired after 52 years of looking for sick flowers in his fields. “It’s fantastic,” he said. “It sees just as much as I see.”28.What does the robot do?A.Plant new tulips.B.Clear troubled bulbs.C.Kill deadly virus.D.Harvest grown flowers.29.What can we infer from Visser’s words?A.He dreams of a sports car.B.Tulip fields are low in production.C.The robot is worth the cost.D.Farmers lack technical knowledge. 30.What is the key to making the robots work effectively?A.GPS systems.B.High-tech cameras.C.Daily training.D.Human knowledge.31.Which of the following is the best title for the text?A.Theo’s Watch: An Advance in Tulip FarmingB.Al Robots: A Replacement for Aging FarmersC.Tulip Seasons: An Attraction of the NetherlandsD.Visser’s Practice: A Tradition in Tulip BusinessesParents of teenagers often view their children’s friends with distrust, worrying that their children will be pushed by their peers (同龄人) into doing something foolish or even dangerous. Their worries hold water. In a previous study, psychologist Laurence Steinberg found that a teenage driver with a same-age passenger in the car is at higher risk of traffic accidents than one driving alone or with an adult. In the following years, Steinberg examined why teens were more likely to take risks in the company of other teenagers. In a later study, by scanning (扫描) the brains of 40 teens and adults, Steinberg found the brains of teenagers, but not adults, showed greater activity in two regions associated with rewards when they were being observed by same-age peers. The reward systems of the brain are activated whenever people experience something rewarding, like eating a nice-tasting food, which make them feel satisfied. In this case, rewards are greater for teens, which motivates them to seek higher-risk experiences. But Steinberg thought peer pressure might also have its positive side. In the latest study, Steinberg’s team used a card game to research how peers affect the way young people gather and apply information. It involved 101 teenage boys who played either alone or with three peers. They chose cards from four decks (牌堆): two decks had “good” cards, and two “bad” ones. Players with peers were more willing to take risks, trying to figure out which decks could help them towin. The results showed that teens playing with their peers engage in more exploratory behavior, learn faster and achieve better performance on the task than those playing alone. Now some experts are proposing that we should take advantage of the teens’ keen sensitivity (敏感) to the presence of friends to improve education. “Risk taking in an educational context is a vital skill that enables progress and creativity,” wrote Sarah-Jayne Blakemore, a professor at University College London.32.What do the underlined words “hold water” in paragraph 1 mean?A.Make sense.B.Face doubts.C.Bring relief.D.Start debates.33.What is the reason behind teens’ dangerous behavior?A.Inability to tell right from wrong.B.A sense of satisfaction.C.Eagerness to follow their friends.D.Lack of social experience.34.How does risk-taking affect teens in the latest study?A.It starts fights between them.B.It inspires them to question.C.It weakens their independence.D.It helps them to learn better.35.What would Blakemore suggest teachers do in the classroom?A.Conduct group discussion.B.Improve time management.C.Encourage personal opinions.D.Develop decision-making skills.Standing at the top of a staircase in the Louvre in Paris, the Nike, or the Winged Victory (胜利女神), looks down over her admiring crowds. This statue is one of the most famous artworks of Greek art. 36 Later it was brought to Paris and has been on display in the Louvre since 1866.The Nike consists of two parts: a large ship’s front part, and a standing statue with a totalheight of more than eighteen feet. It looks like the Winged Victory has just flown down from the sky. 37 The wind blows her dress across her body, gathering it in heavy folds, and streaming behind her. When viewers look at her, they can almost feel the wind from the sea.38The statue, as it stands today in the Louvre, has been partly repaired. The right wing is a modern copy, but the missing feet, arms, and head have not been recovered, giving viewers much to imagine. For instance, did the Nike hold objects in her hands? In fact, people found her right hand in 1950, whose fingers are spread out. 39 She must have simply raised her right arm in greeting. Her head may have looked straight ahead, and viewers can only guess about the features of her face.40 As one of the few existing examples of original Greek sculpture, it will continue to attract viewers, just as it undoubtedly did before.A.This means that she cannot have held any object.B.The Nike is in charge of victory in ancient Greek stories.C.It was found on a Greek island in the Aegean sea in 1863.D.This statue was made by artists who left no names in history.E.It’s hard for them to believe such a lifelike statue is made of stone.F.Landing on top of the ship, she celebrates the victory of an ancient battle.G.Despite its incomplete survival, the Winged Victory is truly a masterpiece. Jason Smith is a published children’s author and award-winning poet.

1The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: A Poignant Exploration of Love, Memory, and the Human ConditionAs a student of life, I have found solace and inspiration in the realm of cinema, where stories unfold, emotions resonate, and profound truths are unveiled. Among the myriad of cinematic masterpieces, one film stands out as a testament to the complexities of love, memory, and the human experience – "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."Directed by the visionary Michel Gondry and penned by the brilliant Charlie Kaufman, this 2004 romantic science-fiction drama has captivated my heart and mind like no other. Its premise alone is a tantalizing enigma: a couple, Joel and Clementine, undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories after a tumultuous breakup. What unfolds is a poetic exploration of the indelible imprints love leaves on our psyche and the lengths we may go to escape the pain of heartbreak. The film's nonlinear narrative structure is a masterful tapestry woven with threads of reality, memory, and imagination, challenging conventional storytelling norms. We are transported into Joel's mind as he relives cherished moments with Clementine, only to witness their gradual erasure. This ingenious narrative device not only immerses us in the protagonists' emotional turmoil but also prompts us to ponder the malleability of memory and the fragility of our experiences. At the core of "Eternal Sunshine" lies a profound meditation on the nature of love itself. Joel and Clementine's tumultuous relationship is a testament to the complexities of human connection, where passion and discord coexist in a delicate dance. Their decision to erase one another from their memories raises thought-provoking questions: Is it better to forget the pain of a failed relationship, or to embrace the bittersweet memories that shape us? Can we truly erase the indelible imprints left by love on our souls? The film's exploration of these existential quandaries is elevated by the phenomenal performances of its lead actors, Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. Carrey's portrayal of Joel is a tour de force, seamlessly transitioning from a meek, introverted man to a passionate, resolute lover determined to preserve his memoriesof Clementine. Winslet's captivating portrayal of the free-spirited Clementine is a masterclass in emotional depth, imbuing her character with a raw vulnerability that resonates long after the credits roll.Beyond the compelling narrative and stellar performances, "Eternal Sunshine" is a visual feast, blending surreal dreamscapes with gritty realism. Gondry's innovative use of practical effects and clever cinematography transport us into the labyrinthine realms of Joel's mind, where memories blur, distort, and fragment, mirroring the fragile nature of our own recollections. But what truly elevates this film to the realm of cinematic brilliance is its profound exploration of the human condition. Through Joel and Clementine's journey, we are confronted with existential questions that resonate with our own experiences: How do we reconcile the pain of heartbreak with the beauty of love? Can we ever truly know another person, or are we destined to misunderstand and hurt one another? How much of our identities are shaped by the memories we hold dear?As a student of life, "Eternal Sunshine" has resonated with me on a profound level. Its poignant exploration of love, memory, and the human condition has challenged me to reevaluate my own relationships, cherish the memories thatdefine me, and embrace the complexities of the human experience. It is a film that transcends mere entertainment, offering a poetic and introspective exploration of the very essence of what it means to be human. In the end, "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a cinematic masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on my soul. Its haunting melodies, captivating visuals, andthought-provoking themes have etched themselves into the fabric of my being, reminding me of the beauty and resilience of love, the fragility of memory, and the enduring power of the human spirit.篇2My Favorite Movie: The Day Dreamer (La Mome)There are films that touch your heart and soul in profound ways, transporting you to different times and places, allowing you to walk in someone else's shoes. For me, that movie is the 2007 French biographical musical drama "The Day Dreamer" (La Mome) about the legendary singer Édith Piaf. This powerful cinematic masterpiece, directed by Olivier Dahan, encapsulates the incredible life journey of the iconic "Little Sparrow" from herhumble beginnings as a street singer to her rise as one of the most revered performers of the 20th century. What draws me so deeply into this film is not merely Piaf's unparalleled talent or the spectacular musical performances, but rather the raw, unwavering spirit that drove her existence. From the moment the movie opens with a haunting scene of a frail Piaf lying on her deathbed, reminiscing about her tumultuous life, I found myself utterly captivated. The film then takes us on a poignant voyage through her childhood, filled with abandonment, poverty, and a resilience that would shape her indomitable character. One of the most striking aspects of the film is the exceptional performance by Marion Cotillard, who completely disappears into the role of Édith Piaf. Cotillard's transformation is nothing short of astonishing, capturing not only Piaf's distinctive physical mannerisms but also the profound emotional depth that lay beneath her diminutive frame. Her portrayal is so genuine and visceral that it becomes easy to forget you're watching an actor – she is Piaf, in every sense of the word. The film's narrative structure is masterfully crafted, weaving seamlessly between Piaf's past and present, allowing us to witness the pivotal moments that shaped her extraordinary life. From her days as a street performer in the seedy underbelly of Paris to her tumultuous love affairs and battles with addiction, each chapter unveils a new layer of complexity, painting a portrait of a woman who lived life with an intensity that few could match. What resonates most profoundly with me is Piaf's unwavering determination to pursue her dreams, no matter the obstacles that stood in her way. Born into abject poverty and abandoned by her mother at a young age, her life could have easily taken a different, darker path. Yet, through sheer force of will and an inextinguishable passion for music, she defied all odds, rising from the streets of Montmartre to become an international sensation. The musical sequences in the film are truly breathtaking, with Cotillard's powerful vocals capturing the raw emotion and vulnerability that made Piaf's performances so legendary. From the haunting melancholy of "La Vie en Rose" to the defiant anthem "Non, je ne regrette rien," each song is a visceral expression of Piaf's indomitable spirit, resonating with audiences across generations and cultures. Moreover, the film's attention to historical detail is impeccable, transporting viewers back to the vibrant, yetturbulent, world of mid-20th century Paris. The sets, costumes, and cinematography all work in harmony to create an authentic and immersive experience, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in Piaf's world.Ultimately, what makes "The Day Dreamer" truly special is its ability to transcend the boundaries of a mere biographical film and become a profound meditation on the human condition. Piaf's life was a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and the inextinguishable flame of artistic expression. Her story is one of triumph over adversity, of finding beauty and purpose amidst the harshest of circumstances. In a world that often seems dominated by cynicism and mediocrity, "The Day Dreamer" stands as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of art and the indomitable spirit of those who dare to dream. Piaf's life was a symphony of highs and lows, triumphs and tragedies, but through it all, her voice remained a beacon of hope and authenticity, touching the hearts of millions across the globe. As a student and a lover of film, "The Day Dreamer" has left an indelible mark on my soul. It has inspired me to embrace life with the same fervor and passion that Piaf embodied, to never surrender to the forces that seek to diminish our dreams, and toalways strive to find beauty and purpose in even the darkest of moments. This film is not merely a story of one woman's extraordinary journey – it is a celebration of the human spirit, a testament to the enduring power of art, and a poignant reminder that our dreams, no matter how improbable they may seem, are always within reach if we have the courage to pursue them.篇3The Science of Sleep: My Favorite FilmThere's something magical about films that transport you to another world, a realm where the boundaries between dreams and reality blur. Michel Gondry's 2006 masterpiece, "The Science of Sleep," is a whimsical exploration of this very concept, seamlessly weaving together the fantastical and the mundane in a way that resonates with the dreamer in all of us.The film follows the story of Stephane Miroux, a young man whose vivid imagination and penchant for daydreaming often clashes with the harsh realities of adulthood. Gael García Bernal's portrayal of Stephane is both endearing and relatable, capturing the essence of someone who struggles to reconcile their inner world with the outside world. From the very first scene, Gondry immerses us in Stephane's dreamscape, where ordinary objects come to life and the laws of physics are mere suggestions. We're introduced to his quirky collection of handmade toys and contraptions, each one a testament to his boundless creativity. It's impossible not to be charmed by the whimsical nature of these creations, which serve as a window into Stephane's mind.As the film progresses, we find ourselves navigating the intricate layers of Stephane's dreams and reality, often blurring the lines between the two. Gondry's use of practical effects and stop-motion animation creates a delightfully surreal atmosphere, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish what's real and what's not.One of the film's most captivating elements is its exploration of the creative process. Stephane's inability to separate his dreams from his waking life is a metaphor for the struggles that artists face in translating their visions into tangible works. We witness his frustrations as he grapples with the gap between his imaginative ideas and their practical execution, a relatable struggle for anyone who has ever tried to bring their dreams to life. However, it's not just Stephane's creative journey that resonates; the film also touches upon themes of love, loneliness, and the search for connection. Stephane's infatuation with his neighbor, Stephanie (played by the enchanting Audrey Tautou), adds a layer of poignancy to the story, as he struggles to navigate the complexities of human relationships while lost in his own imaginary world. What truly sets "The Science of Sleep" apart is its ability to evoke a sense of childlike wonder and nostalgia. Gondry's use of practical effects and handmade sets transport us back to a time when imagination knew no bounds, when the lines between reality and fantasy were blurred by the sheer power of our minds.Throughout the film, we're reminded of the importance of holding onto that spark of creativity and whimsy, even as we navigate the challenges of adulthood. Stephane's refusal to let go of his dreams, no matter how impractical or far-fetched they may seem, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of imagination. In many ways, "The Science of Sleep" is a love letter to dreamers and artists alike, celebrating the beauty and complexity of the human mind. It's a film that encourages us to embrace ourquirks, to find joy in the ordinary, and to never lose sight of the magic that resides within our own imaginations. As a student, I find myself drawn to this film time and time again, not just for its artistic merits, but for the way it speaks to the struggles and triumphs of the creative process. In a world that often prioritizes practicality over imagination, "The Science of Sleep" serves as a reminder that it's okay to dream, to embrace the absurd, and to let our minds wander into realms beyond the constraints of reality.Whether you're an aspiring artist, a daydreamer, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of the human imagination, "The Science of Sleep" is a film that will leave you enchanted, inspired, and perhaps a little bit more inclined to follow your dreams, no matter how fantastical they may seem.。

Penguin Classics

Penguin Classics

One of my all-time favorite songs is "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. This iconic masterpiece holds a special place in my heart for several reasons. Firstly, its unique structure and musical arrangement captivate me every time I listen to it. The blend of rock, opera, and ballad elements creates an unforgettable auditory experience thattranscends genres. From the hauntingly beautiful intro tothe thunderous climax, every section of the song tells a story and evokes powerful emotions. The lyrics of "Bohemian Rhapsody" are another aspectthat I adore. They are enigmatic and open to interpretation, allowing listeners to find personal meaning in them. The narrative unfolds like a mini-drama, following the protagonist through a journey of self-discovery, confession, and redemption. Lines like "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" and "Nothing really matters, anyone can see"resonate deeply with me, as they reflect the universal human experience of grappling with reality and existential questions. Moreover, the vocal performance by Freddie Mercury is simply unparalleled. His dynamic range, emotional delivery, and theatrical flair elevate the song to a level of brilliance that few artists can achieve. The way he seamlessly transitions between different vocal styles showcases his incredible talent and versatility. Whenever I hear his voice soar during the operatic section or the raw vulnerability in the quieter moments, I am reminded of why he is considered one of the greatest singers of all time.Furthermore, "Bohemian Rhapsody" holds nostalgic value for me. It reminds me of cherished memories associated with family gatherings, road trips, and late-night karaoke sessions with friends. It's a song that brings people together, transcending generations and cultural boundaries. Whether I'm belting out the lyrics at the top of my lungs or simply swaying along to the music, it never fails to uplift my spirits and fill me with joy.In conclusion, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is more than just a song to me; it's a timeless masterpiece that continues to inspire and enchant listeners around the world. Its enduring popularity and cultural significance serve as a testament to the genius of Queen and the enduring legacy of Freddie Mercury. Whenever I hear those iconic opening chords, I know that I'm about to embark on a musical journey unlike any other.

1My Wondrous ThoughtsThe world we live in is a vast expanse of wonders and mysteries, waiting to be unraveled by the inquisitive minds of us curious souls. As a student, my thoughts often wander into realms beyond the confines of classrooms and textbooks, venturing into uncharted territories where imagination reigns supreme. In this essay, I shall embark on a journey through the labyrinth of my wondrous thoughts, unveiling the intricate tapestry of ideas that have captivated my mind. From the earliest days of my childhood, I have been an insatiable dreamer, constantly questioning the world around me and seeking answers to the enigmas that perplexed my young mind. As I grew older, this thirst for knowledge only intensified, propelling me to explore the depths of various subjects with an unwavering fervor. Whether it was delving into the complexities of science, unraveling the intricacies of literature, or deciphering the intricate patterns of mathematics, my thoughts would soar, weaving together disparate concepts into intricate tapestries of understanding. One of the wondrous thoughts that has consistently captivated my imagination is the concept of time travel. I often find myself lost in contemplation, envisioning the boundless possibilities that such a phenomenon could unveil. Imagine being able to witness the grandeur of ancient civilizations firsthand, or to glimpse into the future and catch a fleeting glance of the marvels that await humanity. The implications of time travel are both exhilarating and daunting, raising profound questions about the nature of causality, paradoxes, and the very fabric of our existence.Another realm that has ignited my curiosity is the enigmatic expanse of the cosmos. As I gaze up at the twinkling stars that adorn the night sky, I am consumed by a sense of awe and wonder. The vastness of the universe is almost incomprehensible, and yet, within its infinite depths, lie countless celestial bodies, each with its own story to tell. I find myself pondering the possibilities of extraterrestrial life, the birth and death of stars, and the fundamental laws that govern the cosmic dance. These wondrous thoughts have fueled my passion for astronomy, inspiring me to delve deeper into the mysteries that lie beyond our terrestrial confines.Yet, my thoughts are not limited to the realms of science and the cosmos; they also traverse the intricate tapestry of human emotions, relationships, and the complexities of the human experience. I often find myself contemplating the intricate interplay between nature and nurture, the role of free will in shaping our destinies, and the profound impact that our choices can have on the world around us. These musings have led me to explore the depths of philosophy, literature, and the arts, seeking insights into the human condition and the universal truths that bind us all together. Moreover, the realm of technology and innovation has captivated my imagination, as I envision the boundless potential for progress and improvement that lies within our grasp. From the development of artificial intelligence and quantum computing to the exploration of sustainable energy sources and the eradication of diseases, the possibilities are endless. I find myself enthralled by the notion of pushing the boundaries of human ingenuity, paving the way for a future where our wildest dreams become tangible realities. However, amidst the exhilaration of these wondrous thoughts, I am also acutely aware of the challenges and responsibilities that accompany such grand aspirations. As I contemplate the potential ramifications of our actions on the environment, the ethical implications of technological advancements, and the delicate balance between progress and preservation, I am reminded of the importance of tempering our ambitions with wisdom and foresight. In this ever-evolving world, where knowledge is the currency of progress, my wondrous thoughts serve as the fuel that ignites my passion for learning and exploration. They propel me forward, urging me to seek answers, to question the status quo, and to embrace the unknown with a sense of curiosity and wonder. As I navigate the path of my academic journey, I am constantly reminded of the importance of nurturing these wondrous thoughts. For it is through the cultivation of imagination, critical thinking, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge that we can truly unlock the doors to innovation and progress. In the hallowed halls of academia, I have found a sanctuary where my wondrous thoughts can flourish and take flight. Here, I am surrounded by like-minded individuals, each with their ownunique perspectives and ideas, creating a rich tapestry of intellectual discourse. Through engaging discussions,thought-provoking lectures, and collaborative projects, my mind is continually challenged and enriched, pushing me to expand the boundaries of my understanding.Yet, the true beauty of these wondrous thoughts lies not only in their ability to inspire and enlighten but also in their capacity to transcend the confines of the individual and ignite a collective pursuit of knowledge and progress. By sharing our ideas, challenging each other's perspectives, and working together towards a common goal, we can harness the power of these wondrous thoughts to shape the future and leave an indelible mark on the world. As I stand at the precipice of adulthood, poised to embark on a journey that will take me beyond the walls of academia and into the vast expanse of the world, I carry within me a treasure trove of wondrous thoughts. These thoughts will serve as my compass, guiding me through the uncharted territories of life, propelling me to seek new horizons and embrace the unknown with open arms.In the end, my wondrous thoughts are not mere flights of fancy; they are the seeds of progress, the catalysts for change, and the harbingers of a future where the boundaries of possibility are continuously redefined. It is with this mindset that I approach each day, eager to explore, to learn, and to contribute my part in shaping the world we live in.For in the realm of wondrous thoughts, the only limit is the one we impose upon ourselves. Let us cast off those shackles, embrace the boundless expanse of imagination, and boldly venture forth, driven by an insatiable curiosity and an unwavering determination to unlock the secrets of the universe and push the boundaries of human potential.篇2Unit 2: My Imaginative ThoughtsAs I sit down to write this essay for English class, my mind is overflowing with wildly creative ideas and "what if" scenarios. Our teacher instructed us to let our imaginations run free for this assignment, and I intend to do just that. Fair warning though - my thoughts may get a bit weird and wacky! What if humans could breathe underwater like fish? I'd never have to come up for air while swimming in the pool or ocean. I could spend hours just casually strolling along the ocean floors, checking out the vibrant coral reefs and marine life up close.Maybe I'd even make friends with a friendly dolphin or two. We could have deep intellectual conversations about the environment and geopolitics (you know dolphins are actually highly intelligent creatures, right?). Although inter-species communication might be challenging at first, I'm sure we could find a way to understand each other eventually.Or what if gravity didn't exist? Everything and everyone would just be perpetually floating and drifting aimlessly through space. It would be absolute chaos! Holding onto objects would be impossible unless you figured out a way to create artificial gravity or magnetic forces. Simple tasks like eating a sandwich or pouring a glass of milk would require Velcro surfaces or elastic bands to keep the food in place. Sports would be radically different too - I can't even imagine how you'd play baseball or soccer in zero gravity conditions. Maybe the games would shift towards being totally non-contact, like an anti-gravity chess tournament or competitive marble racing courses? Who knows, but I'd definitely have to re-think my career aspirations if gravity disappeared. What if animals could speak our languages fluently? Would my dog Rufus ask for extra treats using a babyish lisp? "Pleeease can I have some mor-r-re Scooby snacks?" I wonder if he'd behyper-articulate or still have a fairly limited vocabulary. My cat Jasmine, on the other hand, would probably be incredibly snarky and sarcastic if she could talk. I can already picture the disdainful looks and snide remarks: "You nudged me again, you ignoramus! Can you be any more clumsy and oafish?" Although having verbally communicative pets could be convenient at times, it might also get super annoying. Can you imagine your dog whining incessantly when it's hangry? "I need foodfoodfoodfood RIGHT NOW!"What if dreams became reality while we slept? That idea could be amazing...or absolutely terrifying. I've had some epically awesome dreams over the years, like the one where I was the lead singer in a world-famous rock band. In that dream reality, I performed concerts for stadiums packed with thousands of adoring fans. Everyone knew the lyrics to my songs and cheered wildly during the guitar solos. Or there was the dream where I was a Jedi knight battling evil Sith Lords with my lightsaber skills. Using the Force to levitate objects and hurl opponents across the room was an absolute blast. But then again, I've also had more than a few nightmares over the years that I definitely would NOT want to experience in real life. Many of them involved being chased or attacked byhorrific monsters. Or vividly realistic ones where I showed up to school butt naked and was laughed at by everyone. Or anxiety dreams about failing important tests despite studying really hard. If those became reality while I slept, I might be traumatized for life! Maybe this "dream becoming reality" ability could be toggled on and off depending on whether the dream seemed nice or not? Like a custom filter of some kind. That would be ideal. What if inanimate objects like toys or furniture could think and talk? Having a conversation with the chair I'm sitting on would be rather awkward. "Hey there, nice seat you've got! Oh don't mind me, just parking my butt on your face as usual." I can't even imagine how creepy or disturbing it would be to have intelligent voices coming from everyday household items. Like what if your toaster started screaming in pain every time you put bread in to make toast? "AHHHH! THE AGONY! YOU'RE BURNING ME ALIVE!" Or if your bed kept nagging you to make it properly in the morning: "You call that making your bed? Tsk tsk, those crooked sheets and lumpy blankets look atrocious! Put some effort into it, you slob!" Finding out that my possessions were secretly sapient would just be too much for my brain to handle. While we're free to imagine unlimited hypothetical situations, maybe the wildest "what if" scenario is: What if we lived in a world filled with powerful wizards and magic? In a reality like that, almost anything would be possible with the right spells or enchantments. You could conjure delicious feasts with a flick of your wand. Or transfigure your appearance however you pleased. Or soar through the air like a bird using levitation charms. With teleportation spells, you could travel anywhere in the blink of an eye without worrying about traffic jams or canceled flights. And endless mischievous pranks could be pulled using curses, hexes, and other magical trickery.Of course, living amongst wizards wouldn't be ALL fun and games. There could be epic battles against dangerously dark wizards who crave power and dominance. Their mastery of malicious curses like the Cruciatus (torture) or Imperius (mind control) would strike fear into everyone's hearts. Only the bravest witches and wizards would dare stand against such evil forces to protect the innocent. It would certainly make for a more exciting existence than the relatively mundane non-magical world we're used to.As I've hopefully demonstrated through these wildly imaginative scenarios and descriptions, the human capacity forcreative thought is virtually limitless. Our brains have been blessed with the ability to dream up an infinite number of "what ifs", from the whimsically plausible to the utterly bizarre. Some might view indulging in such fanciful musings as a mere waste of time. But I believe that cultivating our imaginations helps spark innovation, problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation for the amazing world we inhabit.Everyone should set aside some portion of their mental energy each day to simply imagine new realms of possibility. Perhaps it will inspire humanity's next great invention or scientific breakthrough. Or it might just provide some temporary escape and entertainment from the stresses of everyday life. Either way, I will continue exercising my imagination muscles as often as possible. Feel free to join me on these imaginative journeys anytime you'd like a break from reality. It's going to be one heck of a wild ride!篇3Unit 2: My Ingenious IdeasEver since I was a little kid, my mind has been buzzing with all sorts of crazy ideas and inventions. I was that annoying child who was always asking "Why?" and trying to figure out howthings worked. While other kids were content playing with their toys as intended, I was the one taking them apart to see the inner workings. This insatiable curiosity led to me dreaming up all kinds of fantastical contraptions and concepts. One of my earliest "ingenious" ideas came when I was about 5 years old. I had noticed that my parents would often get headaches from loud noises. So being the brilliantproblem-solver I fancied myself, I decided to inventnoise-cancelling headphones...for the whole house! My plan was to create a machine that could detect loud sounds and then emit opposite sound waves to cancel them out entirely. That way, my parents could live in blessed silence no matter what my siblings and I got up to. I spent weeks gathering random household items - plastic containers, rubber bands, old electronics - and tinkering away in our garage. Needless to say, my ambitious project never quite got off the ground. But I gave it my best effort, documenting my process and ideas meticulously in a notepad I titled "Sammy's Secret Noise Solution."As I got older, my ideas became a bit more grounded in reality, but no less creative. Around age 8, I was convinced I had created the next big thing in snacking: reverse pizza pockets! Instead of having the sauce and cheese inside a bread pocket,my ingenious creation had the toppings on the outside with the dough inside acting as a handle. That way, you could dip and dunk the pizza pocket however you liked without making a mess.I tried selling my reversed pizza pockets door-to-door in the neighborhood, but got few takers. Apparently the flavour combination of unbaked dough, marinara sauce and cold cheese didn't have mass appeal. One concept I was immensely proud of was my hover shoes idea around age 10. These special shoes would use electromagnetic propulsion to allow the wearer to glide effortlessly a few inches above the ground. No more walking for me! I drafted up detailed technical schematics showing how the shoes would work. It involved using powerful magnets that would create an opposing force to gravity. Of course, I didn't know much about physics or electromagnetism at the time. And I definitely didn't have the skills or resources to actually build a working prototype. But I was convinced that someday, hover shoes would become the norm for human transportation. My latest stroke of genius has been my idea for edible plastic packaging. It started when I was eating a candy bar and got annoyed at having。

My Favorite Book: The Wolf King's DreamHave you ever read a book that completely transported you to another world? A book that made you feel like you were right there, living alongside the characters and their incredible adventures? For me, that book is "The Wolf King's Dream" by author Julia Willow. It's an epic fantasy novel that combines action, suspense, and a dash of magic into an unforgettable tale. Let me tell you all about it!The story follows a young wolf pup named Snow, who is born into the noble Windfell pack in the mystical Wilderwood forest. From the moment Snow opens his eyes, you can tell he's destined for greatness. He has a striking white coat and piercing blue eyes that seem to glow with an inner fire. Snow is incredibly brave, loyal, and determined – traits that will serve him well on the journey ahead.Snow's peaceful life is shattered when the evil Dredge army invades the Wilderwood, hellbent on conquering all the wolf packs. Driven by greed and a lust for power, the Dredge's leader Karn is a terrifying force. He captures wolves to use as slave labor, working them to death in his foul mining camps. During a viciousattack on Windfell, Snow's parents are captured and he is separated from his beloved sister Luna. Thus begins Snow's quest to rescue his family and drive the Dredge from the sacred forest once and for all. With the help of a grizzled old wolf named Atka and a young human girl named Elska, Snow embarks on an incredible journey across the Wilderwood. They must navigate treacherous mountain passes, hunt for food in dense brambles, and evade the Dredge's patrols scouring the forest for them. At times I was on the edge of my seat, worried that Snow and his friends wouldn't make it. The descriptions are so vivid and detailed that I felt like I was running alongside them, my heart pounding with every near miss. What makes this book so captivating are the richly-drawn characters. Snow is immensely caring and principled, but also naive about the world beyond his birth pack's lands. His bravery never wavers, even when the odds are stacked against him. I looked up to Snow and was rooting for him to succeed no matter what. Atka is a crusty old warrior who seems gruff at first, but slowly develops a soft spot for Snow. Their mentorship bond grew incredibly strong throughout the book. And Elska is a fearless human girl who can inexplicably communicate withwolves - her bond with Snow becomes one of deep friendship and loyalty. I loved each character for their unique traits and personalities.Of course, no fantasy book would be complete without magic - and "The Wolf King's Dream" has plenty of that! As Snow journeys deeper into the heart of the Wilderwood, he begins to have powerful visions and nightmares about a legendary wolf named Rayelon. Known as the Dream Walker, Rayelon could astral project while sleeping, allowing her spirit to roam any location. Her "dreams" were so vivid and real that Rayelon could interact with the waking world in spirit form. Snow shares this ability, and with Atka's guidance he learns to harness the Dream Walker powers. This leads to some incredibly trippy scenes where Snow projects across the forest, watching the Dredge's moves and communicating with other wolves through the realm of dreams. The magic system is steeped in wolf mythology and has roots in real indigenous beliefs about spirit animals and spirit walkers. I found it all utterly fascinating! Rayelon is described as having been the embodiment of the "Wolf King" - an celestial guardian spirit that exists in the dreams of wolves. Atka reveals that only a few rare wolves ever manifest the power of the WolfKing, and Snow's awakening abilities mean he is the next spiritual leader of their kind. His powers grow throughout the book as he slowly unravels the mysteries behind his connection to Rayelon and the Wolf King. By the climactic final battle, Snow becomes an unstoppable force of courage, magic, and lupine ferocity. I've never witnessed a more epic clash of good versus evil!At its core, "The Wolf King's Dream" is a story about hope, perseverance, and fulfilling your destiny even when all seems lost. Time and again, Snow and his friends face overwhelming odds but never surrender. They bond together as a pack, relying on each other's strengths to overcome every obstacle. Snow's heroic journey teaches powerful lessons about leadership, sacrifice, and believing in yourself. While incrediblyaction-packed, the book promotes peaceful values like respect for nature and finding non-violent solutions to conflicts.I can't rave enough about how much I adore this book! The incredible world-building, the high-stakes storyline, and most of all the unforgettable characters like Snow and Atka. Reading "The Wolf King's Dream" made me feel like I was part of the pack, running alongside them through the gorgeous and treacherous Wilderwood. I've read the book three times already and discovernew layers with every re-reading. Julia Willow is a masterful storyteller. If you're looking for an exciting fantasy adventure with heart, "The Wolf King's Dream" should be at the top of your reading list. Just be warned - once you start this book, you won't be able to put it down! The gripping tale of Snow's quest to save his pack and unlock his mystical powers will remain with you long after reading the final page. I'm already counting down the days until the sequel comes out so I can re-enter the rich, imaginative world of the Wilderwood alongside my new friends Snow, Atka, and Elska. Epic tales like this are why I cherish reading so much!。

It was a day that promised to be as warm as a fresh-baked pie straight out of the oven. The sun was up, the birds were singing, and the air was filled with the sweet aroma of freshly turned soil. In the small town of Podunk, where life was as simple as the potatoes they grew, the annual Potato Picking Festival was in full swing. The festival was a grand affair, with people from all around the county coming together to celebrate the humble spud. There were potato sack races, potato carving contests, and even a potato pie eating competition. But the main event, the one that drew the biggest crowd and the most laughter, was the Potato Picking Contest. The rules were simple: whoever could pick the most potatoes in an hour would be crowned the Potato Picking Champion. The prize? A golden spud trophy and a year's supply of potato chips – the town's most coveted treasure. Our protagonist, a young farmer named Jed, was determined to win. He had been practicing his potato-picking skills for months, honing his technique to a fine art. He had the speed of a jackrabbit and the precision of a surgeon. But he wasn't the only one with dreams of potato glory. The competition started with a blast of a whistle, and the field erupted into a frenzy of activity. Farmers, youngand old, bent over, their hands moving like a blur as they plucked potatoes from the earth. Jed was in the zone, his eyes locked on the prize, his hands working with a rhythmthat was almost hypnotic. But then, something unexpected happened. A newcomer to the town, a city slicker named Phil, had entered the contest. He was wearing a suit and tie, looking completely out of place among the denim and flannel. But as the minutes ticked by, it became clear that Phil had a secret weapon – apotato-picking contraption that looked like it had been plucked straight from a sci-fi movie. With a motorized arm and a basket that could hold a small mountain of potatoes, Phil was quickly outpacing the competition. The crowd gasped as he zoomed past the rows, his contraption whirring and beeping like a miniature robot.Jed, however, was not one to be outdone. He knew that the heart of potato picking was not in the gadgets, but in the hands that did the work. With a grin and a wink, he challenged Phil to a duel – old-fashioned hand-picking versus high-tech gadgetry. The crowd gathered around as the two competitors faced off. The air was thick with anticipation, and the smell of victory was as strong as the soil beneath their feet. With a nod from the judge, they began. It was a battle of man versus machine, tradition versus innovation. The crowd cheered as Jed's hands flew, hisfingers deftly plucking potatoes from the earth. Phil's contraption buzzed and whirred, but it couldn't match the speed and agility of Jed's hands. As the final seconds ticked down, it was clear who the winner would be. Jed emerged victorious, his basket overflowing with the fruits of his labor. The crowd erupted into cheers, and Phil, though defeated, couldn't help but laugh at the spectacle. The festival continued into the night, with music, dancing, and of course, a feast of all things potato. Jed was crowned the Potato Picking Champion, and Phil, with a newfound respect for the art of potato picking, joined the celebration. In the end, it wasn't just about the potatoes. It was about the community, the laughter, and the joy of coming together to celebrate something as simple and as wonderful as a potato. And as the stars twinkled above the field, everyone knew that this was a day they would remember – a day when the humble potato was the star of the show.。

Have a bad hair day: 坏心情要是有人对您说“I have a bad hair day”,您可千万别以为她在抱怨自己的发型。

White elephant:

Brass ring:

The Illusory Web of ButterfliesOn a night of wolf teeth, the moonlight is intoxicating, three or two solitary lamps are lit, the fragrance of tea is overflowing, holding a volume of "Zhuangzi" in hand, closing the book and thinking deeply. In late spring in March, the grass is long and the warblers are flying, various flowers are growing on the trees, and colorful butterflies are fluttering. Zhuang Zhou's dream in the morning blurred the flying butterflies, which were both real and illusory, and it was difficult to tell whose dream was whose. This is: I don't know whether Zhou dreamed of being a butterfly, or whether the butterfly dreamed of being Zhou? Zhuangzi's thoughts are like a torch, chiseling away the chaos. He is like an idle cloud and wild crane, fishing in the Pu River. The sentence "I will go, I will drag my tail in the mud" turned into a net in the future that was covered with thick fog, trapping the vast five thousand years of literature and history. Zhuangzi turned into a roc, soaring u p to 90,000 miles, floating above the sky, a grain of sand in the vast ocean; Zhuangzi transformed into a butterfly, floating in the flower fields, slightly tipsy, and drunk. Lying idle in the ethereal, letting the clouds roll and unfold. He said: Life and death, death and life. All things in the world control the six qi, with a ray of morning light in the cradle, and the soul engraved on the tombstone. Life and death leave behind the lingering sound of cocoons and butterflies.Zhuangzi, also known as Zhou, was a native of Meng in the State of Song during the Warring States Period. He is a representative of the Taoist school and is known as "Lao Zhuang" together with Laozi. His thoughts are broad and profound, covering many fields such as philosophy, literature, art, and politics. He advocated "the unity of man and nature" and "Tao follows nature", and believed that human beings should follow the laws of nature and pursue inner peace and harmony. His work "Zhuangzi" is a treasure of ancient Chinese philosophical thought and has had a profound impact on later generations. The book "Zhuangzi" has a total of 33 chapters, divided into inner chapters, outer chapters, and miscellaneous chapters. It is generally believed that the inner chapters were written by Zhuangzi himself, while the outer chapters and miscellaneous chapters were written by Zhuangzi's disciples and later students. The content of "Zhuangzi" is rich and all-encompassing. It contains both profound thinking about life and criticism of social reality; it contains both vivid descriptions of natural phenomena and the pursuit of the wonderful realm of art. The book is full of rhetoric techniques such as fables, stories, metaphors, and symbols, which make Zhuangzi's thoughts more vivid and infectious. In Zhuangzi, Zhuangzi expressed his views on life, freedom, love, morality and other issues through the description of various characters and things. He believed that life should pursue freedom and transcendence, transcend the constraints of material desires and fame and fortune, and reach the state of "selflessness", "no merit" and "no name". He opposed war and violence, advocated "controlling skills with Tao", and governing the country with morality and wisdom. He advocated "harmony between man and nature", believing that man and nature should live in harmony and should not destroy the natural environment. He also emphasized the importance of art, believing that art can purify the soul and improve people's spiritual realm.Zhuangzi's thoughts have had a profound impact on Chinese philosophy, literature, art and other fields. In philosophy, Zhuangzi's thoughts laid the foundation for the development of the Taoist school, and also had a certain influence on other schools such as Confucianism and Mohism. In lit erature, Zhuangzi's prose style is unique and the language is beautiful, which has an important influence on the literary creation of later generations. In art, Zhuangzi's thoughts have provided rich inspiration for traditional Chinese art, such as painting, music, dance, etc.In short, Zhuangzi is a great figure in the history of ancient Chinese thought, and his thoughts and works are precious cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. By reading Zhuangzi, we can better understand Zhuangzi'sthoughts, feel his wisdom and charm, and at the same time, we can also draw nutrition from it and improve our spiritual realm.。

A Pipe Dream
STAGE 1
It was a sunny morning. I was walking along a quiet road in the countryside, when suddenly an elf flew towards my ear.The elf told me that there was a big surprise waiting for me in the forest. I was scared at first, but driven by curiosity, I followed the elf into the forest.
STAGE 2
We passed through the tall trees and eventually came to a magnificent castle.
“Is this the surprise?” I said.
“No,there is a much bigger one inside” the elf replie d.
I was so excited that I ran to the castle without hesitation. However, the door was shut, and i felt puzzled, because I didn't know how to open it.
STAGE 3
Seeing my puzzled expression, the elf smiled, and asked me to sing a song for the door. I did as the elf said. Sure enough, the door opened. Revealed in front of me was a beautiful garden, with flowers of various colors. I thought it must be the surprise, but to my amazement I was wrong again.
STAGE 4
I was told to walk on the path across the garden. I saw another door in front of me. This time the door was open. I went in and found a pretty dress hanging in the room. The elf let me put it on. “Wow!” I exclaimed. It was my size and I was sure that the dress was what i wanted.
“This is the biggest surprise, isn't it?”I asked again.
“No,it isn't” the elf answered.
STAGE 5
We were talking about the final surprise when a handsome boy came in. “Here it is‟, the elf whispered. …Your prince.” I smiled shyly at the elf‟s response. The prince stretched forth his hand to me,and said
“Will you marry me and stay with me in this castle?”
STAGE 6
I was about to answer then came a voice.“Honney! It is time to get up." It was my mother.I opened my eyes and found that was just a pipe dream.。
