声学语音学acoustic phonetics用声学的方法研究分析语音的学科。
它与言语声学(speech acoustics)相通,但研究重点有所不同,前者偏于语言学范围,后者偏于物理学范围;由于它们除本学科的基础外还需具备另一方的知识,所应用的理论和方法又互有联系,因之它们的界限有时不是十分清楚,只是各有侧重而已。
人的语音以声波形式由空气作为媒介传到对方,言语声波的特性分析是现代语音学研究的最重要手段之一。
言语声波的研究,早期都由物理学家进行。
20世纪初分析语音只能用一种特制的浪纹计画出波形,用傅里叶分析尺对逐个周期的波进行测算,才得出表示声波特性的频谱和频率。
到了50年代,动态声谱仪及其他声学仪器的广泛应用,使语音学迈进一个新阶段。
此后20多年中,这方面的研究达到全盛时期,形成一门边缘学科──声学语音学。
