原岭南大学惺社同学于1928年捐建,为史坚加、 区励周、许耀章三烈士纪念亭。史坚加为辛亥 革命烈士,区励周、许耀章为1925年沙基惨案 烈士。现每周周三晚为英语爱好者聚集交流的 英语角。

现馆于1982年建成,楼高四层,面积14500平方米, 到1999年,藏书334万册。 1998年,中山大学图书 馆被教育部确定为中国高等教育文献保障体系 (China Academic Library and Information System, 简称Calis)华南地区中心,成为中国高等教育文献保 障体系的7个地区中心之一。馆内一楼设开架书库及 电子阅览室,为借阅处;二楼设有研究生阅读室、古 籍阅览室、工具书库和视听室;三楼为阅览室、自修 室,四楼为报刊阅览室。全馆阅览室可容纳1800人。
