体裁:记叙文话题:公共服务时间:7分钟The world of taxi drivers is dominated by men.But there is one small taxi company in Delhi, where all the drivers and passengers are female.Women's safety is a hot topic in India at the moment,so it's proving a very popular service.“When I'm on the road driving our taxi I feel very proud, because this is the first taxi service only for women,”says 31yearold Shanti Sharma, who is one of eight female drivers with a taxi service called Cabs for Women by Women. The last couple of months, since the rape and murder in the city of a college student travelling on a bus, have been particularly busy for her and her colleagues.“After this case, our workload has increased so much,” says Sharma.“Women who used other cab services are also turning to us now.”Most women in Delhi say they routinely face harassment(骚扰),and worse, especially on public transport.Sharma,a single parent with three daughters, has been working as a taxi driver since 2011,when the service was first set up,and it has changed her life. This is the first time that she has earned enough—about 250 a month—to support her family.Of course, she and the other female taxi drivers are completely outnumbered by male cabbies.“When I park somewhere there are always men there and inevitably five or six of them get together and hang out,” she says.“I'm usually the only woman in the parking lot,so I just stay inside the car.”It's not much better when she is out on the road.Sharma says the male drivers give her a hard time.“As soon as they see a woman at the wheel they start honking(按喇叭) for no reason. They'll try to overtake you.I'm always worrying about how to avoid getting hit by someone.”The company behind Cabs for Women by Women,Sakha Consulting Wings, had a number of goals when it set up the service. It wanted to give women from poor backgrounds an opportunity to earn money.By putting women in charge of technologies,it also wanted to change people's attitudes, and open up boundaries for women.【语篇导读】德里一家出租车公司专门推出了女性司机只为女性乘客提供服务的Cabs for Women by Women 出租车业务。

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks throughout the world today. In fact, according to some estimates, over 30% of all adults in the world drink coffee at least once a day on the average. Coffee contains a kind of drug called caffeine. Caffeine is a chemical that stimulates (刺激) the nerves of the body. Drinking coffee tends to make people a little bit more awake―at least for a shorttime―because of this stimulating effect o n the nervous system. A cup of coffee has, on the average, about 3% caffeine in it.One story of the discovery of the coffee plant relates to this effect of caffeine. According to the story, coffee was discovered in East Africa. The story says that coffee was first found by a goat farmer named Kaldi. This was about the year 850. Kaldi was leading his animals through the mountains and the goats were stopping repeatedly to eat the plants near the path. Suddenly, some of the goats started jumping up and down in a very strange way. Kaldi figured out that the goats were acting this way because of the plants they were eating. Kaldi himself tried eating some of the green beans (豆荚) that the goats had been eating. He, too, felt the stimulating effect of the beans. Kaldi wanted to prove what had happened, so he picked some of the beans and took them back to the village, where he told his story. The green bean got the name "Kaffa" and later "coffee" because the beans were discovered in a place called Kaffa in Africa. Then for years, people used to eat a few of the green Kaffa beans when they were in the mountains and needed extra energy to do their work. It was later found that the coffee beans could be picked and then dried until they turned brown, and then they could be stored. If the beans were dried and stored, they could be used at any time.1.What is the purpose of drinking coffee?A. To become more awake.B. To become more healthy.C. To become more happy.D. To become more clever.2.How did the goats react after eating the plants?A. They fell asleep.B. They could not find their way home.C. They started jumping up and down.D. They wanted to eat more.3.Why did the green bean get the name "Kaffa"?A. Because Kaldi loved his home village very much.B. Because Kaldi's goats loved the green bean very much.C. Because the beans were discovered in a place by this name.D. Because the beans could be picked and dried.【参考答案】1.A 2.C 3.C【解析】试题分析:本文为我们介绍了咖啡豆。

Two recent studies have found that punishment is not the best way to influence behavior. One showed that adults are much more cooperative if they work in a system based on rewards. Researchers at Harvard University in the United States and the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden did the study. They had about two hundred college students play a version of the game known as the Prisoner’s Dilemma. The game is based on the tension (紧张气氛) between the interests (利益) of an individual and a group. The students played in groups of four. Each player could win points for the group, so they would all gain equally. But each player could also reward or punish each of the other three players, at a cost to the punisher.Harvard researcher David Rand says the most successful behavior proved to be cooperation. The groups that rewarded it the most earned about twice as much in the game as the groups that rewarded it the least. And the more a group punished itself, the lower its earnings were. The group with the most punishment earned twenty-five percent less than the group with the least punishment. The study appeared last month in the journal Science. The other study involved children. It was presented last month in California at a conference on violence and abuse. Researchers used intelligence tests given to two groups. More than eight hundred children aged two to four the first time they were tested. More than seven hundred children aged five to nine. The two groups were retested four years later, and the study compared the results with the first test. Both groups contained children whose parents used physical punishment and children whose parents did not. The study says the IQs--or intelligence quotients--of the younger children who were not spanked were five points higher than those who were. In the older group, the difference was almost three points. Murray Strauss from the University of New Hampshire worked with Mallie Paschall from the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation. Professor Strauss has written extensively about physicalpunishment of children. He says the more they are spanked, the slower their mental development. He also looked at average IQs in other nations and found them lower where spanking was more common. 1.Which could be the best title of the passage?A. PunishmentB. The Best Way to Influence Behavior.C. Punishment or Reward: Which Works Better on Behavior?D. Two Recent Studies.2.The underlined word “spanked” probably means______.A. wonB. punishedC. testedD. praised3.According to the passage, the researchers may agree the best way to influence behavior is______.A. rewarding good behaviorB. correcting bad behaviorC. punishing badly-behaved childrenD. praising well-behaved children试题分析:文章主要介绍了两项研究的过程和研究成果。

While waiting to pick up a friend at an airport in Portland, Oregon,I had one of those lifechanging experiences that you hear other people talk about-the kind that happens to you unexpectedly. To me,this happened and was only two feet away from me.Locating my friend among the passengers, I noticed a man coming toward me carrying two light bags. He stopped right next to me to greet his family. First he walked to his youngest son (maybe 6 years old) as he laid down his bags. They gave each other a long, loving hug。
As they separated enough to look in each other’s face,I heard the father say,“It's so good to see you, son。
I missed you so much!" His son smiled somewhat shyly, and replied softly,“Me, too,Dad!”Then the man stood up,gazed into the eyes of his oldest son (maybe 9 or 10) and while cupping his son’s face in his hands said,“You're already quite a young man. I love you very much,Zach!”They too hugged a mostloving, tender hug。

The boy lo oked around and said, “We’re losing by six runs (分) and the game is in the eighth inning (局).I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the final inning.Shay struggled over to the team’s bench and put on a team shirt with a broad smile and his father had a small tear in his eye and warmth in heart. The boys saw the father’s joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the final inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously joyful just to be in the game and on the field. In the bottom of the final inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. Would they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was almost impossible. The first pitch (投) came and Shay missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to throw the ball softly towards Shay. In the older group, the difference was almost three points.Murray Strauss from the University of New Hampshire worked with Mallie Paschall from the PacificInstitute for Research and Evaluation. Professor Strauss has written extensively about physical punishment of children. He says the more they are spanked, the slower their mental development. He also looked at average IQs in other nations and found them lower where spanking was more common. 1.Which could be the best title of the passage?A. PunishmentB. A new study shows students who write notes by hand during lectures perform better on exams than those who use laptops(笔记本电脑).Students are increasingly using laptops for note-taking because of speed and legibility(清晰度).But the research has found laptop users are less able to remember and apply the concepts they have been taught.Researchers performed experiments that aimed to find out whether using a laptop increased the tendency to make notes“mindlessly”by taking down word for word what the professors said.In the first experiment, students were given either a laptop or pen and paper. They listened to the same lectures and were told to use their usual note-taking skills.Thirty minutes after the talk, they were examined on their ability to remember facts and on how well they understood concepts. The researchers found that laptop users took twice as many notes as those who wrote byhand. However, the typists performed worse at remembering and applying the concepts. Both groups scored similarly when it came to memorizing facts. The researchers' report said,“While more notes are beneficial,if the notes are taken mindlessly,as is more likely the case on a laptop, the benefit disappears.”In another experiment aimed at testing long-term memory, students took notes as before but were tested a week after the lecture. This time, the students who wrote notes by hand performed significantly better on the exam. These two experiments suggest that handwritten notes are not only better for immediate learning and understanding, but that they also lead to superior revision in the future.1.More and more students favor laptops for note-taking because they can________.A.write more notes B.digest concepts betterC.get higher scores D.understand lectures better2.While taking notes, laptop users tend to be________.A.skillful B.mindless C.thoughtful D.tireless3.The author of the passage aims to________.A.examine the importance of long-term memoryB.stress the benefit of taking notes by handC.explain the process of taking notesD.promote the use of laptops4.The passage is likely to appear in________.A.a newspaper advertisementB.a computer textbookC.a science magazineD.a finance report答案:【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。

When you don't have anything planned for the day or it's rainy outside and your children are stuck in the house, why not sit around and tell them riddles(谜语)?Telling riddles will make your family laugh and sometimes even scratch their heads, trying to figure out what the answer is。
Riddles have been a pastime for centuries. Not only have riddles been something for passing the time, but they have also been used to pass on secret information during the Second World War。
Even the ancient Greeks used riddles. They would tell riddles at parties and whoever was the first to get them right would receive prize。
Most riddles use words that have double meanings or share the same sound like “hear” and “here”。

一、高考能力提升练习
【一】阅读理解
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
Coffee is one of the most popular drinks throughout the world today. In fact, according to some estimates, over 30% of all adults in the world drink coffee at least once a day on the average. Coffee contains a kind of drug called caffeine. Caffeine is a chemical that stimulates (刺激) the nerves of the body. Drinking coffee tends to make people a little bit more awake―at least for a short time―because of this stimulating effect on the nervous system. A cup of coffee has, on the average, about 3% caffeine in it.
One story of the discovery of the coffee plant relates to this effect of caffeine. If the beans were dried and stored, they could be used at any time.
1.What is the purpose of drinking coffee?
A. To become more awake.
B. To become more healthy.
C. To become more happy.
D. To become more clever.
2.How did the goats react after eating the plants?
A. They fell asleep.
B. They could not find their way home.
C. They started jumping up and down.
D. They wanted to eat more.
3.Why did the green bean get the name "Kaffa"?
