本专业培养具备英语语言、英语阅读、英语写作、英语口语和英语翻译等方面根本理论，根本知识和根本技能，了解主要英语国家和西方国家的国情和文化，掌握较为广泛的科学文化知识，能在外事、文化、新闻出版、教育、科研、旅游等部门从事翻译、研究、教育和管理工作，或在各类工商企业、各级经贸部门及其驻外机构从事市场营销和管理工作的高级复合型英语专门人才。
本专业学生主要学习英语语言、文学、历史、政治、经济、外交、社会文化等方面的根本理论知识和根底知识，承受英语听、说、读、写、译等方面的根本训练，具有从事英语翻译、研究和教学能力。
主要课程设置：综合英语、高级英语语法、英语视听说、英语听力、外报外刊选读、口语、英语写作、英语阅读、英语口译、英语语法、翻译理论与实践、英语语言学概论，主要英语国家文学史及文学作品选读、主要英语国家国情、西方文化概论、第二外语（日语）、市场营销专业的专业主干课和英语课等。
