一. Analysis of the teaching materials and students教材和学情分析
1. Analysis of the teaching materials 教材分析
本单元以“节日”为中心话题,介绍古今中外节日的种类、由来、意义以及人们的活动和习俗,旨在通过本单元的学习使学生不断了解我国的节日,而且对外国的节日也有所了解,进而拓展社会文化背景、增加跨国文化知识。
本节课所选内容是Using language中Reading and writing部分,阅读内容主要讲述了一对现代年轻人发生在情人节的一个伤心的爱情故事。
其中穿插了对中国古代著名的“牛郎与织女”及其由此演变过来的“乞巧节”的介绍。
两个不同年代的故事由爱情这条主线巧妙地连接起来,使人读起来意趣盎然,也为下一步创作性写作任务奠定了良好的语言与心理基础。
Writing部分让学生续写文章的结尾。
旨在让学生通过思考写出自己的想法,尝试解决问题的不同途径。
2.Analysis of the students学情分析
This class is given to Senior One students who have mastered a certain number of English words and phrases as well as acquired some useful reading strategies such as skimming for main idea and scanning for specific information. However , they still have difficulty in dealing with some problems concerned with inferring and writing.
二. Teaching objectives 教学目标
1.Knowledge objectives
(1).The students will be able to learn some new vocabulary in the passage: apologize/drown/sadness/obvious/wipe/weave/weep/forgive/t urn
up/keep one’s word/hold one’s breath/set off/remind…of.
(2).The students will be able to read and understand the story A Sad Love Story. 2.Ability objectives
(1). The students will be able to improve their reading abilities and skills like
scanning, skimming and writing abilities.
(2). The students will be able to guess the meanings of the new words and phrases. 3.Emotional objectives
(1)The students’ sense of cross-cultural communication will be greatly aroused. (2)The students’ sense of cooperation will be developed and they will be able to experience the pleasure of cooperation and success.

(2)How to help the students understand different festivals about a love story and how to write a different ending for the story.

1. The idea of my teaching design教学设计思路
本节所讲内容是本单元的Reading and writing部分。
在设计本节课时,(1)通过问题巧妙引入,激发兴趣导入新课;(2)自主学习,快速获取关键信息;(3)再读文章,获取故事细节;(4)小组活动,创造性续写故事不同结尾(小组展示、点评、评选最佳作品);(5)利用关键词复述文章,提高口语和写作能力;(6)当堂检测,巩固所学(7)学生小结,教师点题升华;(8)课堂延伸,布置作业和学习任务。
本节课教学设计思想充分体现新课改精神,让教师成为课堂的设计者、促进者、帮助者、参与者和合作者,学生则是课堂的主人,激发学生的潜能,培养学生创新意识与合作探究能力。
2.Teaching procedures教学过程
Step 1 Lead-in
Questions: 1.What do you know about Valentine’s Day?
2. Do you know our Chinese Valentine’s Day?
【设计意图】通过学生对“西方情人节”的熟悉和了解,进一步询问什么是“中国的情人节”,从而激起学生对新课的求知欲,从而顺利导入本节课。
Step 2 Fast reading
T: Read the story fast to find out the following main points:
1. Characters: Li Fang and Hu Jin(lovers), the manager of the coffee shop
2. Time: Valentine’s Day
3. Place: the coffee shop and the tea shop
4. Event: Hu Jin promised Li Fang to meet him at the coffee shop but she didn’t turn up. In fact,she waited for him at the tea shop. They misunderstood each other.
5. Ending: ?
【设计意图】旨在训练学生的阅读技巧之一----速读(fast reading)的能力,通过自主学习,学生快速获取故事的关键信息,进行整理、提炼和归纳,把握故事的主要内容和脉络。
Step 3 Careful
reading
Read the passage again and answer the following questions:
1. Why was the TV story what Li Fang needed?
2. What was Li Fang afraid Hu Jin was doing?
3. How did Li Fang know the manager wanted to shut the coffee shop?
4. What is the reason why Li Fang and Hu Jin did not meet on time?
5. Why do people want the weather to be fine on Qiqiaojie?
6.Why was Li Fang so worried at the end of the passage?
Suggested answers:
1. The TV story was a sad story about lost love-- the same situation as Li Fang.
2. He was afraid that she was with her friends laughing at him.
3. The manager wiped the tables and then sat down and turned on the TV.
4. They did not meet on time because Li Fang waited in the coffee shop and Hu Jin
waited in the tea shop.
5. People want the weather to be fine so they can meet the one they love.
6. He was worried because he had thrown away the gifts for Hu Jin--the chocolates
and roses so he had nothing to give her and he thought she would not forgive him. 【设计意图】旨在训练学生细读的能力,这是高中生要求掌握的阅读技能之一,有助于培养学生获取故事的细节(details)的能力。
Step 4 Discussing and writing
T: What do you think is going to happen to Li Fang and Hu Jin? Write your own ending
to the story in groups.
1.Discuss the ending in groups and write it down.
2.Display it in class.
3.Select the best different endings.
The endings from the students:
a.They forgave each other and became lovers again
b.Hu Jin was very angry with Li Fang and didn’t forgive him
c.Li Fang admitted his mistake and bought a bunch of red roses and proposed to Hu
Jin. Hu Jin was moved and accepted his offer of marriage. Two days later they got married.
【设计意图】旨在通过分组讨论,让学生创造性地完成故事结尾的续写。
最终评选出“最感
人的故事(the most moving story)”、“写得最好的故事(the best well-written story)”、“最出其不意的结尾(the most surprising ending)”、“最幽默的故事(the most humorous story)”等分类,选出最佳的作品。
有助于激发学生的写作热情和英语写作能力。
Step 5 Retelling
The students are asked to retell the story of the weaving girl and the herd boy based
on the pictures and some key words and phrases.
Key words and phrases: Meet each other on earth …/Get married…/be angry… /Cross the river to meet on the magpie b ridge…
【设计意图】目的是通过复述,一则有助于提高学生口语表达能力,二则在某种程度上训练
学生的写作能力,真是一举两得!
Step 6 Consolidation
Listen to the passage to understand it further ,after which
students are required
to finish True or False,paying attention to the pronunciation and intonation of the new vocabulary.

Get one group to sum up today’s lesson and then the teacher can add something if necessary.
T: This is a sad love story. Although it is sad, it makes us realize true love is more important than anything else like gifts(真爱比诸如礼物这样的东西更重要). 【设计意图】学生小结,教师点题升华。
Step 8 Homework
1. Surf the Internet or go to the library to get more information about festivals at home and abroad.
2.Reread the passage and find out the difficulties in the
passage and try to sovle them if possible.
【设计意图】让学生课后上网查询或参阅书籍收集更多关于国内外的“节日”的相关资料,旨在进一步扩大学生的文化视野,增强学生对其他国家文化的了解;再读课文,找出课文的难点,有助于培养学生的独立思考和解决问题的能力。
