Michelle was eight years old when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Jack, now only an infant(婴儿).. He was very sick and they were completely out of money. Only a very costly operation could save Jack the baby now but there was no one to whom they could turn for the money needed. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mom. "Only a miracle can save him now.”
At the words, Michelle went to her bedroom and took out all the coins from her little moneybox. After counting the coins three times, she slipped out the back door and made her way to the drug store six blocks away . . .
She waited for a long time before the pharmacist(药剂师)turned around and asked her. “And what do you want?”
“Well, it's' about my brother,” Michelle answered . “He's really, really sick . . . and 1 want to buy a miracle.”
“I beg your pardon?”said the pharmacist. “His name is Jack and he has something very bad growing inside his body and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?”
“We don't sell miracles here, little girl .I'rn sorry but I can't help you, ” the pharmacist said. “Listen, I have money to pay for it.” And with these words, Mich poured out all the coins from
her pockets. At this time, a well-dressed man behind Michelle stooped down and ask the little girl. “I'm selling the miracle y ou want. Tell me how much money you have.”
“One dollar and eleven cents, ” Michelle answered in a low voice. “A nd it's all the money I have, but I can some more if I need to.”
“Well, ” smiled the man. “A dollar and eleven cents— the exact price of a miracle for little brothers. Show me the place where your brothers lives.”

第二节概要写作(满分25分)
Paragraph 1 :
Holding the man's hand firmly , Michelle took him home. The little girl walked in such a hurry that she even forgot to introduce herself to the man. Her parents were too surprised to believe their eyes. That well-dressed man turned out to be a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. Later, the little brother was taken away. The operation was completed with payment of one dollar and eleven cents and it wasn't long before Jack was home again and doing well. Michelle was very happy. Now she knew the exact price of a miracle . . . one dollar and eleven cents . . . plus the faith
of a little child.
Paragraph 2 :
When asked why he chose to help the family, the man detailed, “when I was young myself, I was once in the same situation as the little baby. The little girl reminded me of my own sister. It was she who saved my life. Deeply impressed by her innocence, I finally decided to help the family out of trouble. It doesn't matter how much money she actually had with her; what matters is her faith, a faith that miracles do exist.”

As Good as Cinderella
"How did tryouts (选拔赛) go, Shayna?" Mom asked after school, "Terrible," I said. "Kristie got the part of Cinderella(灰姑娘)while I got none." I whispered. I ran to my room and started drawing, which always made me feel better.
The next day, Kristie was cheerful. But when the last bell rang, she became nervous and begged me to go with her to rehearsal (排练). In the great hall, Ms. Carson, director of the play, pulled an old cardboard(卡纸)castle onto the middle of the stage. It was brown with small windows and doors. Ms. Carson turned on the music, and Kristie and the Prince started dancing. Finally as the curtain came down, the rehearsal ended.
"When will we get the real sets(舞台背景)?" Kristie pointed to the cardboard castle. "These are the real sets," Ms. Carson said. "We don't have an art teacher this year. So that's the best we could do."
Kristie and I walked outside. "You were great," I said.
"Everyone will love the play." "Thanks," Kristie said. "But did you see the sets? They were really terrible." I thought for a moment. Maybe there's something we can do. I spent that evening drawing and on the next morning I showed my ideas to Ms. Carson and she liked them. Over the next two weeks, a corner of the lunchroom was filled with cardboard
and paints. And lots of kids painting.

【a possible version】
Finally, the night of performance arrived. I was seated in the great hall, quiet but excited. When the curtain rose, everyone saw my sets, a magical land with rolling hills, a fancy carriage, and a shining castle. The castle was colorful with well decorated windows and doors. The play turned out to be a huge success and Kristie was a perfect Cinderella. Everyone stood up and gave their loudest cheers when the play was over. The great scene
suddenly made me feel it a pity that I missed the chance for Cinderella. I would have been a Cinderella as wonderful as her!
After the play, Ms. Carson called me up to the stage. She said fondly, "I'd like to thank those who painted the sets, especially to Shayna, who designed them. Her great efforts and amazing talent have made tonight extra special. " Hearing this, I felt my eyes watering, and a thundering applaud flooded the hall. Cheers for me! I did get a part in the play after all. And it was just as good as being Cinderella!

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom. Kind and caring, she always seemed to make people comfortable in her presence. For years she was a volunteer in our community. I loved going to the local nursing home to help with her until I hit my preteen years. Suddenly, I was too caught up in my adolescent world to worry about helping others.
One particular summer day when I was twelve, Mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car. I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything? Eventually, I made my way outside.
I imagined the lake water cooling my skin. Annoyed, I climbed into the car and slammed the door shut. I sat in silence, too upset to make a conversation.
“Tasha, would you like to know where we are going?” Mom asked calmly.
“I guess…” I murmured under my breath.
“Sweetheart, we are going to a children’s shelter, I have been there before and I think it would benefit you,” she explained.
I felt a knot slowly form in my stomach. How was I supposed to help there?
When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. It was a large white Victorian home. As we approached the large front porch, wind bells played a calming tune while trees and blossoms welcomed us. M aybe this wasn’t going to be so bad.
Mom rang the doorbell. The door flew open and we were led to the front room, where all of the children were playing. Toys were spread out across the floor. I noticed a baby whose body was scarred with wounds.
The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars (伤疤) such as cuts, scratches and burns. What a terrible life they had had before they moved here! My heart sank.

As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to see a little girl with brown eyes looking up at me. Her angelic face beamed, though, as I could see, there were some scars on her little arms. “Hi. I’m Ashley. You wanna play dolts
with me?” she asked. I looked over and saw Mom nodding to me with a smile. I bent toward Ashley and whispered, “Sure. I’d love to.” Her tiny hand r eached up and took mine, and we walked toward the doll house. Our time together brought her great joy and fun and she also made my day.
Paragraph 2:
I returned to the shelter with Mom several times. During those visits, some of the children including Ashley shared their troubled pasts with me in great detail. I felt sore for what had happened to them and treasured the friendship between us. I would like to do everything in my power to help the children there. At the same time, I learned to be grateful for all that I had. It was a profound time in my young life that I will never forget. It was Mom who taught me the valuable lesson that summer.

阅读下面短文. 根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Ten-year-old Sami loved to visit his grandfather's house. The house was near the beautiful blue sea. At the seaside stood thick and tall palm trees with green coconuts hanging from them. When the coconuts(椰子)fell down, Sami would break them open and drink the coconut water. Sami liked to play under the trees. It was always great fun to spend the holidays at Grandpa's place.
This winter vacation, Sami was surprised when he came to his grandfather's village. There were hardly any trees left. He saw houses built near the sea. People had cut down many palm trees and there was hardly any greenery left.
Grandpa's house was different. He never allowed his trees to be cut. He hugged each palm tree in his courtyard. He also
named the two big trees near the front door--one was Petu, and the other Betu. He had planted them with his own hands and today they had become large, massive trees with thick trunks. They were tall and green and gave the sweetest, juiciest coconuts.
One night, Sami was awakened by a strange sound. He could not sleep. He tossed(辗转)and turned in bed. Suddenly, the ground shook as if the earth was splitting. He sat up straight and then ran to Grandpa. He clung(附着)to his grandpa tightly. Grandp a cried out, “It's an earthquake! It's an earthquake!" They ran outside the house. They thought that would be safe.
Suddenly, there was a loud sound; the earth was not splitting but the sea was roaring. People were shouting, screaming and crying, “The sea is rising! The sea is rising." The villagers started running away from the beach.
Sami watched dumbstruck(呆若木鸡).
The waves were rising higher and higher. Sami thought, “How big the waves are!" He went into the house again and saw water coming in from all sides. He was scared.
Sami remembered his mother telling him long ago, “You must always get out of the house if the floods come too near." He ran outside the house with Grandpa. But the water came surging(汹涌)in.
Waves about twelve meters high came rushing in, drowning everything. Water was all around and everywhere.

At noon that day, I drove back to my house after the performance. Just as I entered the living room,I heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs-it was the sound of my
favorite violin.
"Thief!"
I dashed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected,a boy of about
12 years old was petting my violin. The boy had messy hair and
a thin face, his oversized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.
Then,I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by εsmile. I asked,“Are you Mr. Ram's nephew. Mi chael? I'm his housekeeper. Two days ago,I heard his nephew living in the countryside will come. It must be you. You're really like him!"
On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out?
I think I'd better first go out for a walk and visit him again in
a while. "
I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin,"Do you like to play the violin so much?"
“Yes, but I'm so poor that I can't afford it. "the boy replied.
“Then, I give this violin to you. " The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin. Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall my huge color photo. He involuntarily(身不由己地)trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.
I was sure that the boy understood what had happened because no one would decorate the living room with the housekeeper's photo.
