I woke up at about 3 a.m. in a confused panic about a decision I had recently made to study abroad in Paris. The stream of dreams that had been flowing through my mind for weeks had suddenly stopped. Where would I wash my clothes? Where would I buy my contact lenses? Can I watch Match of the Day over there? As the time got closer and closer, the visions of wandering around Paris like a character out of Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast or a Jean from Luc Godard film had gone away, replaced by a mix of nervousness and anxiety. I finally decided not to study abroad for a year and it was a conclusion I almost immediately regretted.
Ever since that important week spent in my shoebox-sized dorm room playing games of
'Fifa 10' and watching dark art-house films to impress people, I made a promise to myself. If I ever got even the chance to take part in a similar exchange abroad, I would take it and grasp it with both hands. Eight long years later, I have finally realized my 19-year-old's ambition to work in Europe, with a teaching position in Luebeck, Germany.
The advice I would give to any young person who is perhaps overthinking whether or not to
work or study abroad is to just do it! Unfortunately our lives aren't practice sessions in preparation for a public performance, opportunities to travel, explore and hug the world can be few and far between. The number of new friends, exposure to different cultures, and new experiences I have already got in just one month in Germany have been unbelievable and have made an influence on my life. Don't be like me, sorrowfully watching Amelie while staring into the Manchester rain. Go and live the adventurous life you dream about.

(3)A lot of things happened on the writer except ________.
A going from job to job in England
B realizing his dream to work in Europe
C taking part in a similar exchange abroad
D watching Amelie while staring into the rain
(4)From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A the writer's dorm room was so small that he could only play 'Fifa 10' in it
B the writer shut himself in the dark art-house for a week to impress people
C the writer completed his MA degree with a teaching position in Germany

I am a huge fan of word games. I will play anything from anagrams(字谜)to crosswords and word searches to board games. For language learners, playing word games is a great way to revise existing vocabulary and learn new words.
Scrabble, the very popular word game, has to be my favorite game. Ideally you need two people or more to play, there are versions for single players but it's better to play with others! Each player selects seven letter tiles(磁贴)at random from the bag. The first player puts a word down in the middle of the board. Players must then link their words to existing words on the board. Each letter scores a different number of points. The game ends when there are no tiles left in the bag and someone has succeeded in putting down all their letters. The winner is the person with the most points. As a child, I played it with my family. Whenever we visited my grandparents, the game would necessarily come out and a family game would set out. When I'm at home during the university holidays, I often challenge my mum to a
game.
When I was younger, I also played Upwords. This game is similar to Scrabble, with a couple of exceptions. Firstly, all letters have the same value: 1 point. Secondly, you can pile letters on top of existing letters to change the words which are already on the board.
Yesterday, I played Bananagrams for the first time. You can either play against others or just play by yourself. Each player takes a certain number of letter tiles from the bag, the number of tiles varies according to the number of players. You then race against, the other players to make words with your tiles and link them all together, like a crossword.
I also enjoy doing the crossword in the newspaper, I usually do it with my mum. These are a good way to expand your vocabulary and lean more synonyms, as you will need them to solve the clues. I also like playing the word wheel game in my mum's paper. You are given nine letters and have to make as many words as you can from these letters. Usually, one specified letter has to be in every word you make.
(1)Two of the games introduced in the passage cover ________.
A anagrams and crosswords
B Scrabble and board games
C word searches and wheel game
D Bananagrams and Upwords
(2)According to the writer,________.
A word games play an important role in learning a language
B playing Scrabble online is much more interesting than on board
C the way to learn more synonyms is to play wheel games with others
D he likes to challenge his mum and often succeeds with the most points
(3)Which might be the RIGHT statement about the rules of Scrabble?
A Versions for single players are better than for two people or more
B Players score by linking the words to the ones down on the board
C Players can pile letters on top of existing letters to change the words
D Players have to make as many words as they can to find the clues
(4)The underlined phrase "at random" probably means ________.
A one after another
B by a lucky way
C in no certain order
D at the same time

B Word Games
