Full moon nights always seem a little scary. Is there any reason for this? Well,it didn’t come from nowhere--a new study has found that full moons really can cause restless nights.
To test the moon’s effect on humans,a research team in Switzerland studies the sleep of33volunteers.In their sleep lab, there were no windows,or any other way of telling whether the moon was full outside. The researchers watched their brain activity, eye movements and hormone(荷尔蒙)levels.
Test results showed that on nights closer to a full moon, the volunteers’brain activity during deep sleep dropped by30percent.On these nights the volunteers also took about5minutes longer to fall asleep and slept for20 minutes less.Their levels of the hormone that helps control sleep cycles(周期) also dropped.
So what’s the cause of the full moon’s unique power?
According to Professor Christian Cajochen of Basel University in
初三年级__英语_学科__第一次模拟_试卷
Switzerland,“the effect may have something to do with old times when humans had to run from predator(捕食者).On full moon nights there were more predators and so the risk of danger was higher.Maybe we needed to wake up more easily,“explained Cojochen.”However,it is hard to see a use for it in our modern lives.”
In fact, our sleep is not the only thing that changes with the moon cycle. Many animals respond to the cycle too.For example, mosquitoes usually give birth around the full moon.As a result, they bite more on full moon days so that their eggs have enough blood to develop.

One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting.I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works.
A young couple viewing the paintings ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves.I watched them a moment and noticed the wife was doing all the talk.I admired the husband’s patience for putting up with her continuous talk.Distracted(被打扰)by their noise,I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her nonstop talking,I move away quickly.
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a

Dear Editor,
In order to solve the population problem, China with the largest population in the world decided to use One-Child Policy more years ago.
Since it was carried out, people have found that the disadvantages of One-Child Policy outweighed its advantages, so our government decided to introduce the Two-Child Policy. Though it can help solve the population problem, it also has its shortcoming. The couples born in the times of One-Child Policy will have to support a big family with two children and their elderly parents. In my opinion, One- Child Policy has been out of date and it is necessary for us to adopt the Two Child Policy, which can solve the present problem and the problem in the future.
Yours
Jin Hua。
