When we entered the collection house, we saw a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many photos of the countryside. Some famous local artists drew them. The colors of the flowers and the trees were rich and bright.
Then we went upstairs(楼上). On the left, there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden (负担) to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high.

Honesty(老实)of American students
When I first arrived in America, I was surprised by the honesty of my classmates. Over my first month at school, I didn’t see or hear anyone cheating. I found two reasons for this.
First, if any student cheats, he or she will get punished. My school has a rule called the Honor Code〔荣誉准那么〕.It asks students not to steal, lie or cheat. If someone goes against the code, he or she will have to leave the school. During my first year in the school, seven students left the
school because of cheating.
Second, American students don’t care about scores as muc h as Chinese students do. They know that colleges will look at their all-round abilities instead of only scores. So they have fewer reasons to cheat.
1. What will happen if students go against the Honor code?
____________________________________________________________________________ 2.Who does the writer think care more about scores?
____________________________________________________________________________ 3. Are you willing to become an honest person? Why?

Many young people want to become pop-stars. It is their great ambition(雄心)of life. They think: pop stars earn a lot of money; they lead interesting and exciting lives; thousands of fans love them; they become famous!
Yes, but first they must become stars. Most performers start life with a group. This is the pattern nowadays. But there are many groups and the competition is hard. Groups appear and disappear almost overnight. Only a small number survive. Almost without exception(例外) they have to work very hard before they reach the top.
And very few reach the top and stay there. In England there are perhaps thirty or so groups at the top. Most of these do not earn so much money: perhaps 500 pounds each time they perform. What's more, they have quite a lot of expenses(开销).They have to pay a manager, for example. He is the key person in their lives and he takes about 20 % of their earnings perhaps more. They also need to pay for their clothes, their instruments and their van(车).
And don't forget, they have to travel a great deal, sometimes 2022 miles in one week. At times they even sleep in their van instead of a hotel, just to save money.
So now, what do you think? Are pop-stars so rich? And do they have such exciting lives?
1. Why do many young people want to become pop-stars? (1分)
2. What do many pop-stars spend money on? (2分)
3. Do you want to be a pop-star? Why or Why not? (3分)
