To revise strategies for approaching and understanding unseen reading texts

Draw students ’ attention to the picture
Ask a student to introduce the two characters--Helen and Sullivan

Ask students to read the strategies
Use the strategies to read the passage
1 predict what the text is about
Use the title, the picture, the first few lines
2 read the passage to get the general idea
Six minutes to read the passage. Check whether their prediction is right. If not, try to conclude one.
3 work out the meaning of the new words
Match the new words with their synonyms
4 deal with the comprehension questions
Students read the passage again to find the answers to the questions.
Then discuss with their partners
