Do you buy too many clothes? Or do you often buy new clothes only to wear them once before throwing them away? Research shows that you are not alone; a recent survey
in Australia has shown that roughly a quarter of Australians have thrown away a piece
of clothing after wearing it just once.
Sarah Freeman was so shocked by these findings that she decided to do something
about it. She has founded a “clothes library” in Sydney, where customers can rent clothing instead of purchasing it; this way, you can still only wear it once but without being wasteful.
Research suggests that global clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2014! Clothes these days can sometimes only last two or three washes before they need to be replaced. Not only are these short- lasting clothes not good for your wallet, but they’re also terrible for the environment. The majority of these clothes are produced in third world countries, and their factories use up huge amounts of energy and pollute the waterways nearby.
Sarah's clothes library is a great way to get fantastic designer clothes at an affordable price, and it's also good for the environment. Compared with a regular clothing store, Sarah’s business hardly produces any waste. Cust omers can pay a monthly subscription fee(会员费) and enjoy 4 to 6 pieces of clothing per month.
Sarah thinks that her clothes library can make a difference and hopes to see one in every shopping center. But will it be a hit? Reading books that have been read by another person is one thing, but to wear clothes that have been worn by others is another even though great brands are available to rent.
The very similar Fashion Library in Amsterdam made news headlines in 2015, and others have sprung up in other places around the world as well.
24.What problem of Australians is mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.Being enthusiastic about going after fashion B.Storing piles of clothes in their cupboards.
C.Buying clothes regardless of their prices. D.Being wasteful in dealing with clothes.
25.What's talked about modern clothes in paragraph 3?
A.Why they last so short. B.Their fast development
C.Their harmful influences. D.What leads to their poor quality. 26.What's the author’s opinion on the clothes library?
A.He/She thinks it'll be well accepted. B.He/She throws doubt on its popularity.
C.He/She believes it's of great necessity. D.He/She strongly opposes its wide spread.
27.It can be inferred from the text that ______.
A.the clothes library concept isn't new B.Sarah's clothes library is completely waste-free
C.designer clothes aren't available in Sarah's clothes library
D.customers can rent unlimited pieces of clothing every month
C
When she’s playing with her children, Sandra Kim’s phone is nowhere in sight. For instance, she puts it upstairs before going downstairs to play with her children. Kim, a stay-at-home mother of three children between the ages of 3 and 8, knows that whenever she uses her phone, her kids get upset. "When we’re playing, I call my husband to tell him that I won’t be accessib le for a few hours, "Kim said.
It's obvious that we are at a time when cellphones are causing trouble in relationships. A study asked college couples how dependent they were on their smartphones and how difficult it would be for them to go without their phones for a day. Those who felt that their partners were too dependent on their phones said they weren’t as satisfied with their relationship as those who considered their partners to be less dependent on them.
“It's a very complicated issue,” said Brandon McDaniel, an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University who studied phones and relationships. "It is often unrealistic to cut out phone use entirely, and it is also unrealistic to simply tell yourself that you will practice self-control and not check your phone, "McDaniel said. But, he added, "It can also begin to tear relationships apart so we need to be careful."
McDaniel found that it damaged relationships when partners allowed their devices(设备) to interrupt their face-to-face interactions, turned to others online instead of believing in their partners or compared their relationship with those they saw on social media. In a 2014 study, he found that when technology devices frequently interrupted partners, couples had more conflict(冲突)over technology use, lower relationship satisfaction, more depressive symptoms and lower life satisfaction.
But the phone doesn't even have to be turned on to be troublesome. If we can
at least start from a common meaning that we love each other and want to connect, then we can set some ground rules(基本规则) for things that will help to keep us connected.
28.What can we know about Kim when she is playing with her kids?
A.She always goes upstairs B.She frequently checks her phone. C.She stays away from her phone for hours. D.She keeps in touch with her husband on the phone.
29.People’s frequent use of smartphones can lower their partners’_____. A.conflict in technology B.relationship satisfaction C.dependence on the Internet D.confidence in communication
30.What is McDaniel’s suggestion on the use of smartphone?
A.Being careful. B.Turning to other people.
C.Practicing self-control. D.Stopping using the phone.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Times come when we depend on phones B.Kids need your time spent with them
C.Great changes brought by cellphones D.Watch out for your smart phone

Astronomers have taken the first ever image of a black hole, which is located in a distant galaxy (星系). It measures 40 billion km across –three million times the size of the Earth –and has been described by scientists as “a monster”.
The black hole is 500 million trillion km away and was photographed by a network of eight telescopes across the world. Details have been published today in Astrophysical Journal Letters.
Prof Heino Falcke, who proposed(提议) the experiment, told BBC News that the black hole was found in a galaxy called M87. “What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System,” he said. “It has a mass(质量) 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. It is an absolute monster, the heavyweight champion of black holes in the Universe.” The image shows an intensely bright “ring of fire”, as Prof Falcke describes it, surrounding a perfectly circular dark hole. Some scientists assumed that the bright ring is caused by superheated gas falling into the hole. The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy combined – which is why it can be seen at such distance from Earth. The edge of the dark circle at the centre is the point at which the gas enters the black hole, which is an object that has such a large gravitational pull (引力) that even light can’t escape.
The image matches what theoretical physicists and indeed, Hollywood directors, imagined black holes would look like, according to Dr Ziri Younsi, of University College London. “Although they are relatively simple objects, black holes raise some of the most complex questions about the nature of space and time, and finally of our existence,” he said. “It is surprising that the image we observe is so similar to that which we obtain from our theoretical calculations (计算). So far, it looks like Einstein is correct once again.” But having the first image will enable researchers to learn more about these mysterious objects. They will be keen to look out for ways in which the black hole leaves from what’s expected in phy sics. No one really knows how the bright ring around the hole is created. Even more interesting is the question of what happens when an object falls into a black hole. 32.What made the scientists call the black hole a “monster”?
A.The hole’s larger size.B.Its distance from the earth.
C.The gravitational pull. D.The bright ring of the hole.
33.Why can the black hole be seen from the Earth?
A.The superheated gas falling into the hole makes it brighter.
B.An intensely bright “ring of fire” surrounds the bla ck hole.
C.The gravitational pull of the hole is so large that no light escapes. D.The light of the other stars combined can’t match that of the hole. 34.About the image of the black hole, which of the following is CORRECT? A.Eight telescopes in the USA cooperated to take the image.
B.It will help researchers to learn more about black holes.
C.It is different from what Hollywood directors imagined.
D.It enables scientists to know the nature of our existence.
35.What might be the best title for the passage?
A.The Heaviest Black Hole B.First Black Hole Image Released
C.A Surprising Monster D.Einstein is Correct Once Again

Many scientists believe our love of sugar may actually be an addiction(瘾). When we eat or drink sugary foods, the sugar enters our blood and affects parts of our brain, which makes us feel good. Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more. 36. In this way, it is in fact an addictive drug, one that doctors suggest we all cut down on.
“It seems like every time I study an illness and search for the first cause,
I find my way back to sugar,” says scientist Richard Johnson. 37.Why? “Sugar, we believe, is one of the causes of the problem, if not the major re ason,” says Johnson.
Our bodies are designed to survive on very little sugar. Early humans often had very little food, so our bodies learned to be very efficient in storing sugar as fat. In this way, we had energy stored for when there was no food. But today, most people have more than enough. 38.
Well, what is the solution? It’s obvious that we need to eat less sugar. 39. From breakfast cereals (谷物) to after-dinner desserts, our foods are increasingly filled with it.
40. Many schools are replacing sugary desserts with healthier food like fruit. Other schools are growing their own food in gardens or building facilities (设施) like walking tracks for students and others in the community to exercise.
A.But there are those who are fighting back against sugar.
B.High-sugar foods can negatively affect your energy levels.
C.So the very thing that once saved us may now be killing us.
D.All tasty foods do this, but sugar has a particularly strong effect.
E. The trouble is, in today’s world, it’s extremely difficult to avoid.
F. The average person takes in about 24 kilograms of sugar each year.
G. 1/3 of adults worldwide have high blood pressure and 2.5 billion suffer from obesity.

No one knows exactly how the earth began, as it happened so long ago. However, according to a wide accepted theory, the universe began with a "Big Bang" that threw matter in all direction. For several billion years after the "Big Bang", the earth
was still just a cloud of dust. It is even more important is that as the earth cooled down, water began to appear on its surface. Water had also appeared on another planets like Mars but, like the earth, it had disappeared later. What many scientists believe is that the continued presence of water allowed the earth to dissolve harm gases and acids into the oceans and seas. This produced a chain reaction, that made it possible for life to develop. Many millions of years later, the first extremely small plants began to be appear on the surface of the water. Later reptiles appeared the first time. After that, dinosaurs developed. They lay eggs and existed on the earth for more than 140 million years.

由第一段“Research shows that you are not alone; a recent survey in Australia has shown that roughly a quarter of Australians have thrown away a piece of clothing after wearing it just once.”

由第三段“ Not only are these short- lasting clothes not good for your wallet, but they’re also terrible for the environment. The majority of these clothes are produced in third world countries, and their factories use up huge amounts of energy and pollute the waterways nearby.”

由倒数第二段“Reading books that have been read by another person is one thing, but to wear clothes that have been worn by others is another even though great brands are available to rent.”

由最后段“The very similar Fashion Library in Amsterdam made news headlines in 2015”可知,在阿姆斯特丹,非常相似的“时尚图书馆”在2015年成为新闻头条。

It measures 40 billion km across –three million times the size of the Earth –and has been described by scientists as “a monster”.和第三段第二句“What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System,” he said. “It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Sun.可知科学家所看到的黑洞比整个太阳系的大小还要大,它的质量是太阳的65亿倍。

”即科学家们称其为“怪物”是因为黑洞的尺寸比太阳系还大,故选A。

33.细节理解题。

根据第三段倒数第二句The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy combined –which is why it can be seen at such distance from Earth.

But having the first image will enable researchers to learn more about these mysterious objects.

Astronomers have taken the first ever image of a black hole, which is located in a distant galaxy.

Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more.(然后这种美好的感觉就消失了,让我们想要更多),和后句In this way, it is in fact an addictive drug, one that doctors suggest we all cut down on.(从这个意义上说,它实际上是一种令人上瘾的药物,医生建议我们都要减少使用)可知,所有美味的食物都是这样做的,但是糖有一个特别强的效果。

故选D。

It seems like every time I study an illness and search for the first cause, I find my way back to sugar,和后句Sugar, we believe is one of causes of the problem可知,这里主要陈述食用糖所带来的问题,所以,全球1/3的成年人患有高血压,25亿人患有肥胖症都可能是糖导致的。

故选G。

Early humans often had very little food, so our bodies learned to be very efficient in storing sugar as fat. In this way, we had energy stored for when there was no food.

It’s obvious that we need to eat less sugar.(很明显,我们需要少吃。
