第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)We all love bank holidays. In the UK, we only get eight bank holidays in one year, and at least five of those occur around Christmas time and Easter time! A bank holiday is a British English term. This is an official day that is decided by the government, when banks, shops and offices close for the day even though it’s a weekday—usually a Monday, and a lot of people have a day off work.
Bank holidays are different in Colombia -firstly, they are called “festivos”. There are twenty festivos for the whole country in one year! In Britain, people get more holiday allowances(津贴)than Colombians but fewer bank holidays. There can be even more festivos in Colombia, depending on which region of Colombia you live in. This is because different regions have their own holidays. For example, some regions have a patron saint(守护神), so they have an extra festivo to celebrate that saint.
However, there are some days that are national holidays for historical reasons. There is an Independence Day celebration on July 20 every year. This is just like Bastille Day in France on July 14, or Independence Day in the United States on July4. Other important festivos in Colombia are: Labour Day, on May 1, and Columbus Day on October 12. Columbus Day is a historical bank holiday that almost every county on the continent of America celebrates. This includes Colombia, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Mexico and the United States. It is memorialization of the day when the Italian sailor, Christopher Columbus, first reached land on the continent in the year 14. Many people criticize this day and say it is not something to celebrate because of the way Columbus and his team treated the people that were already living there.
1、What is a “bank holiday” according to the text?
A.An official nationwide vacation.
B.A holiday only for the bank staff.
C.A British traditional religion festival.
D.A celebration for Christmas and Easter.
2、What can we learn from Paragraph2?
A.Colombia and Britain have the same number of festivos.
B.All Colombians have the same number of festivos.
C.Colombians have fewer holiday allowances than British people.
D.People in most regions celebrate a patron saint.
3、Why do many Americans refuse to celebrate Columbus Day?
A.Because Columbus wasn’t an American at all.
B.Because Columbus once treated the locals badly.
C.Because it wasn’t Columbus who found America first.
D.Because Columbus didn’t live in the continent of America.
4、What is the text mainly about?
A.A British English term.
B.Bank holidays in Colombia.
C.Important festivos in America.
D.Different bank holidays in the world.
22.(8分)The year 2114 will be an eventful one for art. In May of that year in Berlin, the philosopher-artist Jonathon Keats’ “century cameras” – cameras with a 100-year-long exposure (曝光)time – will be brought back from hiding places around the city to have their results developed and exhibited. Six months after that, the Future Library in Oslo, Norway, will open its doors for the first time, presenting 100 books printed on the wood of trees planted in the distant past of 2014.
As Katie Paterson, the creator of the Future Libra ry, puts it: “Future Library is an artwork for future generations.” These projects, more than a century in the making, are part of a new wave of “slow art” intended to push viewers and participants to think beyond their own lifetimes. They aim to challenge today’s short-term thinking and the brief attention spans of modern consumers, forcing people into considering works more deliberately. In their way, too, they are fighting against modern culture – not just regarding money, but also the way in which artistic worth is measured by attention.
In a similar fashion, every April on Slow Art Day, visitors are encouraged to stare at five works of art for 10 minutes at a time – a tough task for the average museum visitor, who typically spends less than 30 seconds on each piece of art.
Like the Future Library, the century cameras are very much a project for cities, since it’s in cities that time runs fastest and the pace of life is fastest. “Since I started living in a city, I’ve somehow been quite disconnected,” Ann e Beate Hovind, the Future Library project manager, who described how working on the library drew her back to the pace of life she knew when she was growing up on a farm in her youth, told The Atlantic magazine.
1、According to the first paragraph, what will NOT happen in 2114 ?
A.A camera which was produced 100 years ago will be exhibited.
B.The Future Library will be open to the public for the first time.
C.Photos with a 100-year exposure time will be developed and exhibited.
D.Books printed on the wood of trees planted in 2014 will be displayed.
2、What can we learn about today’s people’s attitude toward works of art?
A.They consider works deliberately.
B.They spend little time on works.
C.They spend much money on works.
D.They stare at works for 10 minutes at a time.
3、What is the purpose of the wave of slow art?
A.To advocate creating works of art slowly.
B.To protect works of art from being damaged.
C.To promote works of art for modern culture.
D.To encourage people to consider works more deliberately.
4、How would Anne Beate Hovind feel about the city life?
A.It’s discouraging.
B.It’s awful.
C.It’s developed.
D.It’s busy.

25.(10分)Here is a record of the discussion about AI (artificial intelligence) conducted by several scientists: Scientist A: I would say that we are quite a long way off developing the AI, though I do think it will happen within the next thirty or forty years. We will probably remain in control of technology and it will help us solve many of the world’s problems. However, no one really knows what will happen if machines become more intelligent than humans. They may help us, ignore us or destroy us. I tend to believe AI will have a positive influence on our future lives, but whether that is true will be partly up to us.
Scientist B: I have to admit that the potential consequences of creating something that can match or go beyond human intelligence frighten me. Even now, scientists are teaching computers how to learn on their own. At some point in the near future, their intelligence may well take off and develop at an ever-increasing speed. Human beings evolve biologically very slowly and we would be quickly substituted. In the short term, there is the danger that robots will take over millions of human jobs, creating a large underclass of unemployed people. This could mean large-scale poverty and social unrest. In the long term machines might decide the world would be better without humans.
Scientist C: I’m a member o f the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots. Forget the movie image of a terrifying Terminator stamping on human skulls and think of what’s happening right now: military machines like drones, gun turrets and sentry robots are already being used to kill with very little human input. The next step will be autonomous “murderbots” following orders but finally deciding who to kill on their own. It seems clear to me that this would be extremely dangerous for humans. We need to be very cautious indeed about what we ask machines to do.
1、What is Scientist B worried about?
A.AI technology will destroy the earth. B.Robots will take the place of humans.
C.Computers can’t think by themselves. D.Humans will be unhappy without machines.
2、What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.I launched the campaign to Stop Killer Robots.
B.We forget the movie image of a terrifying Terminator.
C.“Murderbots” will be against humans’ orders.
D.“Murderbots” can’t decide by themselves.
3、Which statement is CORRECT according to the record?
A.The employment will be affected by AI technology in the future.
B.Scientist A thinks AI technology will never develop.
C.“Murderbots” will follow the orders of their manufacturers in the wars.
D.All the three scientists agree that AI technology will benefit human beings.
4、Who agree(s) AI has more negative aspects than positive aspects?
A.Scientist A.B.Scientists B & C.
C.Scientist B.D.Scientists B & A.
