Questions 8 to 17 are based on the following passage.
The Importance of Sleep。

Sleep is a basic human need. It is as important for good health as 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, a balanced diet, and regular exercise. Sleep is not merely a time when your body and brain shut off. While you rest, your brain stays busy, overseeing a wide variety of biological maintenance tasks that keep you running in top condition and prepare you for the 9 day ahead.
To understand the 10 of sleep, consider what happens when you don't get enough of it. If you're sleep deprived, you are at risk of developing a number of chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. You're also more likely to have accidents, to have trouble concentrating, and to feel 11 and irritable.
So how much sleep do you need? Most adults need 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. However, some people are able to function without sleepiness or drowsiness after as little as 6 hours of sleep. Others can't perform at their peak unless they've slept 12 hours. And, contrary to common belief, the need for sleep doesn't decline with age but the ability to sleep for six to eight hours at one time may be reduced.
Sleep needs vary across ages and are especially impacted by lifestyle and health. To determine how much sleep you need, it's important to assess not only where you fall on the "sleep needs spectrum," but also to examine what lifestyle factors are affecting the quality and quantity of your sleep such as work schedules and stress.
