书面表达
One possible version:
There is no denying that encouragement can serve as a powerful motivator during difficult times. Friends’ encouragement matters a lot to a depressed man.
When I started my senior high school, I failed in my first English exam, although I always had thought I was good at English and could do it well. I felt very depressed and was doubtful about my ability. My best friend, Lily, tried to comfort me. She listened to me carefully and told me that Edison succeeded in inventing the light bulb after failing more than 300 times. Eventually, with her encouragement, I was determined to try hard again and never give up.
We can take courage from friends’ encouragement, which helps us get out of an unfavorable situation.
Text 1
W: Dad, can we go to the shop? I want to buy some sweets.
M: There are so many other wonderful things that you can buy. Why not buy a book or some pencils?
(Text 2)
M: Jack will come to see you next Friday. Do you prefer the morning or the afternoon?
W: Neither. The evening would be better. You know, everyone will be free then. (Text 3)
M: I’ll pick you up at 8:00 tomorrow morning.
W: What time shall we get to London?
M: By 11:00 if the traffic isn’t too heavy.
(Text 4)
W: Good afternoon.
M: Good afternoon. I have a table for two under the name of Black.
W: Yes, sir. Would you come this way? Will this table do for you?
M: That’ll be fine.
(Text 5)
W: Good evening, sir. What can I do for you?
M: We are going to have a party tonight. Is there anyone who could look after our baby tonight?
W: Well, we have baby-sitting service. Someone there will take good care of your baby.
M: That’s good.
(Text 6)
W: OK, it’s 6 o’clock. I’m done. I think it’s time we go for dinner!
M: I’m starving. Shall we go to Big Eaters? I love t heir salad — you can go bottomless. W: I’m not a salad person. How about some fish and chips? Happy Fisher offers bottomless chips.
M: No, I suggest we go to Happy Chicken across the road. We can go bottomless with any soft drinks.
W: Do you know anywhere that we can go bottomless on the main course?
M: Oh, that would only be your home!
(Text 7)
W: What do you think of the suit?
M: It’s very nice, but dear, I’m so nervous.
W: Just relax. I’m sure you’ll get the job. You are so talented, and you’ve been
preparing for the job for such a long time.
M: I know that, but I just can’t keep from worrying.
W: I’m sure they will all like you. Why don’t you come and have breakfast now?
M: Where is Lily? Is she still in bed?
W: Yes. She doesn’t have to go to school today. I’ll go to the park with her this morning. You know, after you get this job, we both will be busy, and we won’t have much time with her.
(Text 8)
M: Hi! You must be the new secretary. Welcome. I’m Tom Robinson from Public Relations.
W: Hi, Mr. Rob inson. Thanks. My name is Lisa Johns, and I’m working in Sales now. I came here ten days ago.
M: Please call me Tom, Lisa.
W: OK, Tom. Have you worked here long?
M: Yes, over twenty years.
W: Wow. That is a long time. Do you enjoy working here?
M: Well, yes. I suppose I took the job because the money is good, and it’s also a good place to work in, but to be honest, what I really enjoy is the chance to go abroad. W: Well, the best thing for me is that I live close to the office. I can go home for lunch a nd I don’t have to worry about the traffic.
Text 9
W: Well, before we decide where we are going to live in Weymouth we ought to look at schools. The kids’ education is really important.
M: My workmates gave me some information at the office and I took a few notes.
There are five middle schools in Weymouth—three state schools and two private. W: What are they like?
M: Well, Comprehensive is the biggest, about one thousand pupils. Their classes are biggest, too. They have an average of forty pupils in a class.
W: That’s a lot. I expect the private have less.
M: Yes, the private schools have only twenty-two a class, on average. There are about two hundred total students at Carlton Abbey and one hundred and fifty at St Mary’s.
W: How many children go on to university every year in each school?
M: Well, Weymouth High is very good; fifty percent of the pupils go on to university and Carlton Abbey even better, seventy percent. Donwell is not so good, only eight percent and Comprehensive not much more, about ten percent.
W: Well, they certainly seem like quite good schools, but we’ll have to find out more before we can decide.
Text 10 W
Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was our last item, and all I want to do now is to thank our performers for the enjoyment they’ve given us this evening. And of course,
I must express our thanks to those who have worked behind the scenes, and especially our producers. But most of all I want to say “thank you” to all of you for coming here this evening and supporting this event, especially in such weather. I think perhaps I should take this chance to say sorry to those sitting in the back rows. We have made some repairs to the roof, but unfortunately the rain tonight was unexpectedly heavy. We’re so thankful to you for your understandin g and cheerful good humor. We had hoped that the repairs would be enough. But we were recently told that the whole roof would have to be replaced. We were upset to learn the news because it’s only five years since we replaced the roof of the church itself. And so we shall be having another concert soon, I hope.
