Introduction
A lot of crime is against bicycles. About 150,000 bicycles are stolen every year and most are never found. You can prevent this happening by following a few careful steps.

Registration
There are a number of companies who will security mark your bicycle for you. They will then put your registration number and personal details on their computer database. Then if your bicycle is found it will be easy to contact you.

A year ago, I paid no attention to English idioms, though my teacher emphasized(强调)the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was showed in an amusing experience.
One day, I happened to meet an Englishman on the road, and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, the foreigner seemed to be astonished gently shaking his head, shrugging his shoulders, saying, “You don’t say!” “You don’t say!” I was puzzled.
I thought, perhaps this is not an appropriate topic(适当的话题). “Well, I had better change the topic.”So I said to him, “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall? By the way, have you ever been there?” “Certainly, everybody back home will laugh at me if I leave China without seeing it. It was magnificent. ” He was deep in thought when I began to talk like a tourist guide. “The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. We are very proud of it. ” Soon I was interrupted again by his order “You don’t say!” I couldn’t help asking, “Why do you ask me not to talk about it?” “Well, I didn’t request you to do so,” He answered, greatly surprised. I said, “Didn’t you say you don’t say?” Hearing this, the Englishman laughed to tears. He began to explain, “You don’t say actually means really? How to eat healthfully can be especially complex for working women who often have neither the desire nor the time to cook for themselves (or for anyone else). Registered dietitian(营养专家)Barhara Morrissey suggests that a few simple rules can help.
“Go for nutrient dense foods,” she suggests, “foods that con tain a multiple of nutrients. For example, select whole wheat bread as a breakfast food, rather than coffee cake. Or drink orange juice rather than orange drink, which contains only a small percentage of real juice-the rest is largely colored sugar water. You just can’t compare the value of these foods, the nutrient dense ones are so superior, ”she emphasizes.
Morrissey believes that variety is not only the spice of life—it’s the foundation of a healthful diet. Diets which are based on one or two foods are not only virtually impossible to keep up the strength, they can be very harmful, she says, because nutrients aren’t supplied in sufficient amounts or balance.
According to Morrissey, trying to find a diet that can cure your illnesses, or make you superwoman is a fruitless search. As women, many of us are too concerned with staying thin, she says, and we believe that vitamins are some kind of magic cure to replace food.
“We need carbohydrates, protein and fat—they are like the wood in the fireplace. The vitamins and minerals are like the match, the spark, for the fuel,” she explains. “We need them all, but in a very different proportions. And if the fuel isn’t there, the spark is useless. ”
64. From the paragraph we know that working women ______.
A. think cooking is especially complicated
B. do not share the same views with registered dietitians
C. are busy and not interested in cooking
D. are likely to eat healthfully
65. Orange juice is different from orange drink in that _____.
A. it contains only a small percentage of real juice
B. it is natural, nutritious and prepared from real oranges
C. it is largely orange-colored sugar water
D. it produces nothing but calories
66. In Paragraph 4, “a fruitless search” means ______.
A. an effort with no results
B. a search for a diet without fruits
C. a research on fruitless diet
D. a diet serving as medicine
67. Many women take it for granted, according to passage that ______.
A. a balanced diet can result in being fat
B. staying thin and healthy are both possible
C. lack of variety in diets leads to staying thin
D. vitamins are some kind of substitutions(替代品)for food
68. By “if the fuel isn’t there, the spark is useless”, the author means ______.
A. carbohydrates, protein and fat are enough to support a human life
B. vitamins and minerals are virtually of no value
C. carbohydrates, protein and fat are as important as vitamins and minerals
D. without carbohydrates, protein and fat, vitamins and minerals are of no use
D
If life seems more rushed than ever, you might be surprised to learn that we Americans don’t have less leisure time than we did 40 years ago. We actually have more leisure time, and quite a bit more. What counts as leisure is up for argument, but under every definition the numbers have gone up. We get about 45 minutes a day of extra leisure.
Then why does it feel like we have so much less? It might be because we waste half of all our leisure time watching television. The average American adult devotes 2. 5 hours a day to this hobby. And for every additional hour we get free, another 30 minutes goes into that boob tube (=TV). So if you want more free time, I recommend one thing: turn it off. This is easier said than done, especially during the world series.
When I was growing up, my mom had one piece of advice for me, and she said it every single morning. ‘Get out of the house!’ It’s good advice. Come join the 6. 8 million who are in a book club, or the 196,000 who attend pro beach volleyball, or the 680,000 who go to tractor pulls every month. There are even 3 million people who enjoy a sport called ‘muzzle loading,’ which involves shooting a gun that looks 200 years old.
And at the end of the day, there’s a thing in your kitchen called a stove. Turn it on and invite people over. Only 38% of Americans entertain friends or family at home at least once a year. What were the other 62% of us doing? Getting a free meal, I suppose. We can do better, America. If we’re going to watch so much television, can’t we at least invite friends over to watch?
69. The main idea of the passage is _______.
A. to teach readers how to increase leisure time
B. to persuade readers to watch TV with others
C. to introduce different social activities to readers
D. to recommend various ways of spending leisure time
70. According to the passage, how many social activities does the author come up with?
A. 3
B. 4
C. 5
D. 6
71. We can infer form the passage that _______.
A. Americans have less leisure time than they did 40 years ago
B. Americans tend to spend part of their time watching TV
C. American mothers dislike their children staying at home
D. Americans treat their family or friends frequently
72. The writer’s attitude towards solving the problem is _______.
A. positive
B. negative
C. puzzled
D. tough
E
Medicine comes in lots of different packages. Painkillers in a tablet can make your headache go away. Antibiotic cream from a tube can prevent your cuts from becoming infected. But can medicine come packaged in chicken eggs?
A team of scientists from Scotland says yes. They've engineered special chickens that lay eggs with disease-treating drugs inside.
These drugs are made of molecules called proteins. Animals make thousands of proteins—they’re the main ingredient in skin, hair, milk, and meat. Since animals can make proteins easily, they’re good candidates for making protein drugs.
Researchers have already made cows, sheep, and goats that pump out protein drugs in their milk. But chickens are not expensive to take care of; what’s more, they need less room, and grow faster than these other animals. Those qualities could make chickens a better choice to become living drug factories, says Simon Lillico of the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lillico and a team of researchers changed chickens’ DNA—the code that tells cells how to make proteins so that the birds’ cells made two protein drugs. One drug can treat skin cancer, and the other treats a nerve disease called multiple sclerosis.
The scientists altered the chickens’ DNA so that the birds made these drugs only in their egg whites. This protects the chickens’ bodies from the drags’ possible harmful effects and makes it easy for scientists to collect the drugs.
These special chickens can pass on their drug-laying abilities to their chicks. So far, the Scottish researchers have bred five generations of drug-producing birds. The scientists need to improve these chickens before they roost in drug companies’ labs. The birds don’t make enough drugs to treat people yet. But once the researchers perfect their technique, you might eventually take your medicine sunny-side up.
73. Find in the passage a word closest in meaning to the underlined word “altered”.
74. According to the passage, what’s the reason the scientists choose chickens for making protein drugs?(回答词数不超过10个)
75. What’s the purpose of the writer in writing this passage?(回答词数不超过8个)

This year, about 2,300 teenagers from all over the world will spend about 10 months in US homes. At the same time about 1,300 American teenagers will go to other countries to learn new languages and learn the rest of the world.
Here is a 2-way student exchange in action. Fred, 19, spent last year in Germany with George’s family. In turn, George’s son Mike spent a year in Fred’s home in America.
Fred, a lively young man, knew little German when he arrived. But after 2 months of studying, the language became easy for him. School was completely different from what he had expected and it was much harder. Students rose respectfully when the teacher entered the room. They took 14 subjects instead of 6 that were usually taken in the US.
Family life, too, was different. The father’s word was the law. All the activities were done with the family rather than individually. Fred found the food to be too simple at first. He also missed having a car.
“Back home, you pick up some frie nds in a car and go out to have a good time. In Germany, you walk but you soon learn to like it. ”
At the same time, in America, Mike, a friendly German boy, was also forming his own ideas. “I suppose I should criticize American schools. ” he says, “It is far too easy for our level but I have to say that I like it a lot in Germany, we do nothing but study. Here we take part in many other activities. I think that maybe American schools are better in training their citizens. There ought to be some middle ground between the two. ”

Last term I took part in a geography research study group. Our topic was environmental pollution and protection. We took a variety to pictures showing the present pollution conditions of our city. To our surprise, there are still a lot of people doing silly things to our surroundings. Some people throw rubbish anywhere they like, some cars give off harmful gases, and waster water is poured into the rivers by some factories. Worse still people sometimes have to make their way through dusty winds as a result to of the pollution. Through our research, we come to know that everybody must pay much attention to our environment and some measures should be taken to protect it.。
