Table Tennis
Table tennis became an Olympic sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. This sport has more than 40 million professional players worldwide. It also has several names including ping-pong, flim-flam, whiff-whaff and gossima.
Judo
Some sports ,like judo, are included because they are popular in the country hosting the games. Japan introduced judo as an Olympics sport at the 1964 Tokyo games.
Today about 10,000 athletes compete in the Olympic Games. At first, the modern Olympics include only summer sports. Later in 1924, the first winter Olympics was held.
The game was originally a recreational substitute for tennis, but now it is very competitive. These days, while the players are still very polite, table tennis is known for its aggressive play. Players try to gain an advantage by staring down other players and tying their shoes to buy time.
Still waiting
While the Olympics already have a wide range of events, there are 29 sports still waiting for admission to the games. Maybe someday people from around the world will find themselves watching Olympic bowling, chess or sumo wrestling.
The process of selecting new sports means that the Olympics have come to include some very distinctive. While some sports have ancient roots, others were not considered sports until fairly recently.
Judo’s name means “the gentle-way”, but it is the only Olympic sport that lets athletes choke opponents or break their arms. Usually, throwing an opponent to the floor is enough to win.
Modern Olympic
Sports, like athletes go through a lot to get to a century. The Olympic Games have traveled the world. As far back as 776 B.C. the Olympic games celebrated human achievement and friendly competition.
Archery
Archery disappeared from the Olympics only to return years later. It was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1920,but then is was neglected until 1972.Archery is a challenging sport that requires archers to shoot arrows at targets 70 meters away. From that distance ,the targets look smaller than coins.
