Enable the students to talk about some types of English humour and Chinese humour.
3. Learning ability goals
a. Help the students learn how to talk about some types of English and Chinese humour, and then find their differences.
b. Let the students listen, read, and then imitate the jokes, so that they can realize that humour is to let people to be optimistic about everything around.

Help the students learn how to understand and enjoy English humors.
Help students to get to know more about Charlie Chaplin.

Step one: Warming-up (6 minutes)
1. To share a Chinese joke with students and lead in the English word “punchline”.
2. Explain the word “punchline” by giving definition and examples.
3. Ask students how many kinds of humour do they know and help them to divide the humour into two types.
4. Explain what’s nonverbal humour to students and list two typical actors.
Step two: Pre-reading (4 minutes)
1. Ask students what do they know about Charlie Chaplin.
2. Then show a picture of young Charlie and a brief introduction about him to students.
3. Play a clip of The Gold Rush that Charlie Chaplin act in.
Step three: Reading (18 minutes)
1. Fast reading: Try to finish the following tasks quickly after reading.
