在校园中遇到的问题并解决英语作文My Life at Oakwood Elementary
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I absolutely love going to school and learning new things every day. But just like anywhere else, sometimes challenges and problems come up that need to be sorted out. I'll tell you about a few of the bigger issues I've faced at school and how I was able to deal with them.
The Lunchroom Bully
One of the toughest things I had to handle was a bully who would pick on me and my friends during lunchtime. His name was Michael and he was a year older and a lot bigger than the rest of us. Michael would come over to our table, insult us, and sometimes even knock our food trays onto the floor. It was really mean and it made me sad and anxious to go to lunch each day.
After a few weeks of putting up with it, I decided to tell my teacher Mrs. Robinson what was happening. She said bullying isn't tolerated at Oakwood and that she would look into it right away. The next day during lunch, Mrs. Robinson had Michael come out into the hallway to talk. I don't know exactly what they
discussed, but after that Michael never bullied me or my friends again. I was so relieved!
If you're being bullied, I'd really encourage you to tell a teacher, principal, parent or trusted adult about it. Don't be afraid or embarrassed - bullies rely on making you feel that way so you won't speak up. But speaking up is the best way to get the bullying to stop. I'm just glad I did!
The Impossible Math Test
Another challenge I faced was a crazy difficult math test in 3rd grade. My teacher Mr. Davis handed it out and as soon as I looked at the first few problems, I knew I was in trouble. The test had all these advanced algebra equations and concepts that we hadn't even learned yet. I could tell my classmates were just as confused and worried as I was.
About 10 minutes into the test, I raised my hand and asked Mr. Davis if we had somehow missed learning the material for this test. He looked surprised for a second, then suddenly started laughing! Turned out he had accidentally handed out a practice 7th grade math test instead of our normal 3rd grade one. We all had a good laugh about it and Mr. Davis quickly collected the impossible tests and gave us the correct one instead. Phew, crisis averted!
Looking back, I'm glad I spoke up respectfully when I realized the test seemed way too difficult. If none of us had said anything, we might have struggled through that awful test for nothing. It's always okay to clarify instructions or material if it doesn't make sense - teachers appreciate you making sure
you're on the right track.
Stage Fright Struggle
My biggest personal challenge at school happened last year when I was asked to speak and perform at our school's annual talent show. I was really excited at first because I love singing. But as the show got closer, I started getting more and more nervous. What if I messed up the words or my voice cracked? What if everyone laughed at me? My fear and anxiety grew until I didn't want to do the talent show at all anymore.
That's when my mom gave me some really great advice that helped a lot. She said the risks of getting embarrassed on stage are nowhere near as big and scary as they feel in my mind beforehand. She told me to visualize and practice doing my performance perfectly. And most importantly, she said I should have fun with it and not worry so much about messing up since almost nobody ever notices little mistakes anyway.
Her advice worked like a charm! When the night of the talent show came, I was still a little bit nervous backstage. But as soon as I stepped out under those bright stage lights, I pushed my fears aside and just focused on singing my heart out. And you know what? My performance went perfectly and everyone loved it! The crowd gave me a huge roar of cheers and applause at the end. I was on cloud nine!
Overcoming my stage fright ended up being such an awesome, empowering experience. I realized that lots of times, the things we worry about or fear the most rarely happen or aren't nearly as bad as we build them up to be in our minds. I'm so glad I didn't let my anxiety stop me from doing the talent show. Now I can't wait for more opportunities like that.
Finding Good Friends
The last challenge I want to talk about is one that took me a while to figure out - finding good, kind friends to hang out with at school. When I first started at Oakwood, I kinda just tried to become friends with anyone who seemed nice or popular. But over time, I realized some of those friends weren't really being very good to me. They would leave me out of games at recess, tease me, or ditch me to go hang out with other kids.
It toolbox from feeling close and happy with those "friends." But I was worried if I stopped hanging around them, I wouldn't have any friends at all. That's when my dad gave me some really wise advice that changed everything.
He said the most important quality to look for in a true friend is how they make you feel about yourself. He explained that real friends will celebrate you, build you up, and make you feel included and valued - not leave you feeling bad or alone. Dad encouraged me to stop putting up with those other kids' mean behavior and to focus on surrounding myself with the kind, loyal friends who did treat me well.
So that's exactly what I did. I started spending more time with the nice girls in my class like Sophia and Avery who had always been so sweet to me. And you know what? They turned out to be incredible friends! We had so much fun together at recess, playdates, and sleepovers. More than that though, they made me feel appreciated for who I am. I no longer had to put up with being made fun of or left out. What a difference surrounding myself with positive people made!
If you're struggling to find good friends too, I'd really encourage you to be patient and to focus on the people who consistently make you feel good about yourself. Having even just
one or two kind, loyal friends is so much better than a whole group of friends who don't make you happy. Real friends will build you up, not tear you down.
Well, those are some of the biggest challenges I've faced so far during my life at Oakwood Elementary! I've learned so many valuable lessons by working through each of those problems and struggles. Sometimes figuring out the solutions was really hard, but I'm thankful I never gave up or stayed stuck in those difficult situations.
No matter what issues you're facing at school or anywhere else, keep persevering and believing in yourself. Ask for help from teachers or parents when you need it. Listen to their advice, but also trust your instincts. Focus on positive people who make you feel good. Face your fears and anxieties head-on instead of running from them. If you can do those things, you'll be amazed at what you can overcome! I know this from personal experience.
Oakwood Elementary has been quite the adventure so far and I still have a few more years left there. I'm sure some other challenges and problems will come up before I graduate. But now I feel prepared to handle them after everything I've already worked through and learned. No matter what bumps I hit in the road, I'll just take a deep breath and keep on persevering with
courage, kindness and resilience. Here's to making the rest of my Oakwood journey an amazing one!。
