When it comes to President Obama, most of his personal business is already known
by the public. Personal information about his children, Malia and Sasha, however,
has been kept a little more under wraps.
The New York Times recently released a list of rules that Michelle Obama has
mentioned over the years that Malia and Sasha must follow during their time in the

Running 10 marathons in a year wasn’t enough. Running more than 70 marathons during her lifetime wasn’t enough. Seventy-year-old Chau Smith wanted to challenge herself even further, so she decided to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. In January, the Missouri woman accomplished that goal. Between January
25 and January 31, Smith ran marathons in Perth, Australia; Singapore; Cairo; Amsterdam; Garden City, New York; Punta Arenas, Chile; and King George Island, Antarctica.
"She didn’t want to broadcast this before doing it," said Steve Hibbs, who organized the trip. "She overcame a lot, and it was just really impressive to see her run and complete the event."Nine other people joined Smith in running on all seven continents. Although she had done many marathons before, training to run seven in a row took months. "It took me eight months to really train," Smith said. "The last four months, I really put in long, long runs. Every week, I ran from 15 miles to 130 miles."
The most challenging race was in Cairo. The group’s connecting flight from Singapore was delayed in Abu Dhabi, so they arrived in Egypt with only a few minutes to change before heading to the race start. "What’s worse, the key wasn’t working for my room. I almost used up my 10 minutes. I was crying." Smith was worried about finishing in time, so Hibbs suggested she run the half-marathon instead. However, she finished the full marathon in five hours and 51 minutes. "From that day on, they never asked me about thinking about running a half-marathon again," Smith said.
"All my life ... I always did crazy things," Smith said. "When I was young in Vietnam, I was a stubborn kid. My family always never knew what I was going to do.
I always showed them I can do it, just like boys."
Smith often runs with her husband, who has also been running for most of his life. When she brought up the idea of completing these seven marathons, he was supportive, but worried about h er health. Her two adult daughters expressed similar concerns. Smith to ld all three that if anything happens to her while she’s doing something she loves, it would be worth it.
28. In which cities did Smith run during these marathons?

Vitamin B could help reduce the effects of the most dangerous type of air pollution, according to a new study published Monday. A team of international researchers looked at the damage caused by PM2.5, which has the most severe impact on health.
The team found that something as simple as taking vitamin B daily could greatly reduce the impact of the tiny particles(颗粒) on the human body, although they stressed that research was in its early stages and the sample(样本) size was small. Once the particles are breathed in they can result in lung and systemic disease and stress, experts say. According to the WHO, 92% of the world’s population lives in places where the PM2.5 level is above the recommended level. However, how exactly these particles make people unwell is not fully understood.
For this study, published in the science journal PNAS, 10 volunteers were initially exposed to clean air and given a placebo(安慰剂) to check their responses. The group then took another placebo for four weeks before being exposed to heavily polluted air from downtown Toronto, where thousands of cars pass every hour. The bad air was given to the volunteers through an "oxygen type" face mask. The experiment was then repeated, with each volunteer taking vitamin B daily -- made up of 2.5 mg of folic acid, 50 mg of vitamin B6, and 1 mg of vitamin B12. B6 can be found in liver, chicken and nuts; and B12 in fish, meat, eggs, milk and some cereals. The researchers found that four weeks of B vitamin supplements reduced the damage of PM2.5 exposure
by 28-76%. The results highlight how prevention at an individual level could be used to fight the harmful effects of PM2.5, the researchers said.
Future studies, especially in heavily polluted areas, are urg ently needed to prove our findings and finally develop preventive methods using B vitamins to contain the health effects of air pollution, said one researcher.
32. According to this passage, how does PM2.5 do harm to our health?
A. The particles can cause stress and lung disease as well.
B. The particles can lead to lung disease and heart attack.
C. The particles can cause blood disease and eye disease.
D. The particles can lead to heart attack and emotional diseases.
33. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Vitamin C can help reduce the bad impact of PM2.5.
B. PM2.5 is actually not as dangerous as people expect.
C. The scientists know why the vitamin can help fight PM2.5.
D. More than half of the world’s population suffer from PM2.5.
34. Which food below can B12 be found in?
A. Eggs.
B. Nuts.
C. Liver.
D. Apples.
35. What does the underlined word “highlight” i n the third paragraph mean?
A. To emphasize.
B. To weigh.
C. To represent.
D. To explain.

indeed .Only in this way can you have a bigger group to choose from and have more chances to make friends .
Yours truly, Li Hua .。
