My Last Weekend
This past weekend was the final one before the start of a new semester at university. I had been really looking forward to it, as the previous few weeks had been incredibly hectic with coursework, part-time job shifts, and trying to spend time with friends before we all became swamped again. Finally, I had two glorious days stretching out ahead of me with no responsibilities or commitments.
On Saturday morning, I awoke naturally around 9am with the sun streaming through my bedroom window. Blissfully, I didn't have that panicked feeling of being instantly behind schedule that I seem to experience most days. I lingered in bed for a while, scrolling aimlessly on my phone and feeling that weekend freedom settle in.
Eventually, I motivated myself to get up and have a proper breakfast. Living in student accommodation, we don't have anything fancy like a kitchen, so I just made some toast and
grabbed a banana from the small communal kitchen area we share. Eating on my bed back in my room, I spent a little time watching YouTube videos before figuring I should properly start my day.
My friends Sarah and Tom had been bugging me for days about meeting up, so I tossed them both a text to see if they were free to hang out. We ultimately decided to meet in the city center around noon for some lunch and a wander around the shops. I quickly got dressed into a pair of ripped jeans, t-shirt and hoodie, brushed my teeth and hair, then headed out.
The weather was pleasant enough as I made my way by bus into town - not too cold but not warm enough yet for short sleeves. Sarah and Tom were already seated at a table outside a cafe when I arrived. We exchanged hugs and friendly insults about who looked the most dead from lack of sleep over the past while.
We decided to keep things easy and just split a couple of sandwich platters and some chips at the cafe. The food was nothing special but it hit the spot. As we ate, we caught up properly on the recent goings-on in each other's lives over the break so far.
With our appetites sated for the time being, we paid the bill and began wandering aimlessly around the nearby retail area. We stopped in at several different stores, sometimes making cheeky attempt to try on ridiculous items of clothing. At one point, Tom burst out of a changing room wearing an absolutely garish button-up shirt with a wild pattern, resulting in me and Sarah practically collapsing with laughter in the middle of the shop.
After a couple of hours of this, we started to run low on energy from being on our feet so much. We stopped for a beverage at a coffee place before I had to head off. I said my goodbyes to Sarah and Tom, promising to catch up again soon. The late afternoon was starting to turn chilly, so I pulled my hood up as I walked to the bus stop.
Back at my accommodation, I spent a little time watching some Netflix shows I'd been meaning to start. For dinner, I just had a simple prepared meal from the grocery store - a stir fry veggie and rice dish. I cleaned up the few dishes I'd dirtied, then settled in for more Netflix time until I got sleepy around 11pm.
I must have slept incredibly well because I didn't wake up until after 10am on Sunday! I stretched out lazily, reorganized my pillows, and spent a long while just laying there browsing on my
laptop. No morning classes or work shifts waiting for me felt luxurious.
For brunch, I walked to a nearby diner and treated myself to an big stack of pancakes with syrup, bacon, and coffee. I actually felt a little gluttonous eating such an indulgent meal, but I decided I'd earned it after my hectic few weeks previously. The food was delicious and set me up nicely for the rest of the day.
With a full stomach, I headed back and spent a little time on some light homework stuff - getting a head start on some reading for next week's classes and outlining a paper that would be due soon. It felt productive to get just a little bit done without any looming stress.
My afternoon was spent rotating between Netflixing some more shows, napping lightly on and off, andFaceTiming my parents back home to update them on my life. We chatted for about an hour, and they were reassured to hear I was taking it easy for once instead of running myself ragged as usual.
For dinner, I went simple again with a prepared frozen pizza from the grocery store. I watched a movie afterwards, then got ready for bed around 10pm since I had an 8am class the next morning - weekend's over!
As I settled in under my covers, I reflected back on what a perfectly lazy, recharging weekend it had been. No drama, no complications, no pressing demands on my time. Just satisfying stretches of unscheduled time. My batteries were finally recharged from those hectic first few weeks, and I felt ready to tackle the new semester ahead. Weekends like this were all too rare for me, so I was grateful I'd been able to totally relax and reset before another busy period. With that contented feeling, I fell into a deep, restful sleep.

My Last Weekend
The crisp morning air hit my face as I opened the front door last Saturday. It was the first weekend of summer break after finishing my final exams at university. An incredible sense of freedom and relief washed over me knowing I didn't have to worry about classes, homework, or studying for the next few months. The possibilities for how to spend my last weekend before summer adventures began were endless.
After grabbing a quick breakfast, I texted a group message to my friends Chris, Amy, and Carlos to see what they were up to. Amy replied first saying she was just going to relax at home and
catch up on her latest Netflix addiction. Carlos said he had to help his dad with yard work all weekend. But Chris excitedly responded that he was down for anything.
Chris and I have been best friends since we met during freshman orientation. We came up with a million crazy ideas when we were bored, everything from bushcraft camping to attempting mundane world records. His enthusiasm and ability to turn anything into an adventure is one of the things I love most about him.
"Wanna go on one last campus tradition before we're not students anymore?" he messaged with a sneaky emoji. I knew exactly what he was suggesting - the seventh floor pool!
Every year around finals week, a rumor circulated about the existence of a secret pool on the seventh floor of the library. The legend claimed it was built in the 70s when the library was constructed but enclosed years ago due to too many pool parties. Countless students tried finding it over the decades with no success. Of course, the story was hokum, but it became a rite of passage to attempt to locate the cryptic pool.
"You know that's just a myth, right?" I replied, playing dumb. Part of me wanted to cling to any last vestiges of being a student for sentimental reasons. The other part of me felt stupid falling
for the classic college trick. But overwhelmingly, I was excited for another one of Chris's ridiculous endeavors.
"Dude, we have to at least try! Could you imagine if we're the ones who actually found it after all these years?" A little part of me wondered if maybe, just maybe, the legend was true. Chris could be very persuasive.
"You've got a point. Ok, I'm in! Should we bring swimming trunks just in case?" I laughed.
Chris came over after lunch with a completely serious expression holding a duffle bag. He pulled out two pairs of swimming trunks and goggles as well as a small shovel and combat knife "for getting through any debris." I just shook my head laughing at how overboard he went, as usual.
We headed out to the campus library which was completely deserted for the summer except for a couple of studious-looking folks. The library was eerily quiet compared to the usual bustling atmosphere during the semester. We bypassed the check-in desk and reception and started ascending the stairwell.
"Ok, if my research is correct, there was a door shut off on this floor during a renovation in 1981. That's probably where the entrance is," Chris whispered as we reached the seventh floor.
I rolled my eyes. "You did research? On what? Student myth websites?"
"Quiet! We have to be stealthy about this," he shushed me while scanning the hallways.
For awhile, we roamed around opening doors that led to nothing but janitor closets, storage rooms, and a mechanical room. We tried slouching through to look through wired windows on any door with potential. I even tried the old trick of sliding my ID card in between the cracks to open them. No luck.
Finally, Chris found one door that seemed different than the others. It was made of metal and sealed completely shut. The area around it seemed much older than the rest of the building.
"This has to be it!" Chris exclaimed while pulling out his shovel. I quickly stopped him before he could start bashing at it.
"Are you insane? Let's not cause any property damage. Maybe there's a clever way to open it," I suggested.
We both examined every nook and cranny looking for any sort of latch, hinge, or crease to pry it open. I even climbed on Chris's shoulders to inspect closer near the ceiling. After about an hour of messing with it, the door wouldn't budge an inch.
Chris kicked the ground in frustration. "Well this was a big bust. So much for finding the mythical pool."
I put my hand on his shoulder. "Hey man, don't feel bad. We gave it our best shot at least. Who knows, maybe there really was one here a long time ago!"
"You're right, you're right. It was still fun trying to figure it out one last time though, right?" Chris smiled and put his arm around me.
"You know it, dude. One last hoorah."
We headed back down the stairwell dripping in sweat with our shorts and googles still on despite not finding anything. We stopped to get ice cream on the way back to revel in our last day as students. Even though our pool mission was a failure, we spent the afternoon reminiscing about all the good memories from our college days.
As cliche as it sounds, that was one of those days I'll remember forever. The feeling of experiencing complete freedom mixed with nostalgia was something I'll never replicate again. Chris and I knew that after that weekend, we'd both be entering the "real world" as they say. While I was definitely apprehensive about that prospect, I remained singularly focused
on squeezing every last drop from my student lifestyle while I could.
By the time Sunday evening rolled around and I started packing for my summer road trip, I finally felt ready to move on to my next chapter. I reminisced one last time while folding up my old South Path Farms t-shirt from the dining hall. I chuckled thinking about how somany of my prized possessions were basically oversized frisbees and napkins from various campus groups and events.
The smell of stale beer reminded me of staying up all night cramming for tests while my roommates raged at the house parties next door. Those Three AM chocolate-covered pretzel cravings from the corner store were irreplaceable. I wondered if I'd ever have just completely meaningless delirious chats with friends about things like the hottest interdimensional dinosaur again. Probably not.
It was the seemingly insignificant moments that defined the entire college experience in a lot of ways. Like staying up until 4 AM for no reason other than you could. Taking naps on sidewalks between classes despite having a perfectly good dorm room bed. So many bursts of uninhibited laughter erupting out of nowhere with my best friends.
While I wholeheartedly looked forward to the new adventures waiting for me post-graduation, I knew I would miss the freedom of pursuing nearly aimless activities out of pure boredom. Sure, taking random classes like Python Programming and Romantic British Literature purely out of interest without career motivation sounds ridiculous. But doing things just because you can is what being a student is all about. I felt incredibly lucky to have experienced it while I could.
As I zipped up my suitcase and double checked that I had everything, a bittersweet feeling washed over me. In a way, it felt like I was truly leaving my childhood behind and growing up whether I liked it or not. My life was about to get a lot more serious without even realizing it.
I took one last look around my room that had started to feel unrecognizable as all my belongings disappeared into boxes and bags. So many incredible moments happened within those walls - studying until sunrise, stimulating debates with friends, dance parties to blow off steam before finals. While it was just ay typical dorm room, it was also the first space I could call my own. I experienced so many "firsts" within its hallowed cinderblocks.
I dragged my luggage into the hallway and pulled the door shut one final time, staring at the fading wooden heart plaque
Amy and I had hung up reading "The Dudes' Abode." I smiled reminiscing about the memories encoded in every dimple and scuffmark.
Just like that, my life as an undergrad was officially over. While I would miss it dearly, I felt immensely grateful to have had such an incredible, formative experience. Sometimes it's not until something is gone that you realize how much you cherish it.
I took a deep breath and headed out, ready to embrace the brave new world of adulthood waiting for me. I may have been leaving my home for the last four years forever, but I knew the friends, lessons, and memories would stubbornly tag along whether I liked it or not. More than anything, I felt optimistic about the possibilities awaiting me.
For everything my university had given me, I just hoped I could return the favor to society tenfold. The friendships, personal growth, senses of ambition and purpose - all of it amassed over the years was tucked safely in my back pocket as I strolled through the des

My Last Weekend
This past weekend was supposed to be like any other - a couple of days to relax, recharge, and get ready for the upcoming week of school and activities. Little did I know that it would end up being one of the most memorable weekends of my life. It all started on Friday evening after classes had ended for the day.
I had been looking forward to Friday all week long. Finally, the weekend was here and I could take a break from the endless cycle of homework, projects, and tests. My friends and I had made tentative plans to go see a movie that evening, but nothing was set in stone. As I walked home from school, I got a text from Sarah asking if I still wanted to go to the movies. I quickly confirmed that I was in.
Sarah, Amanda, and I met up at the local movie theater around 7 PM. We had trouble deciding what to watch - there were a few different movies that had just been released that we were interested in seeing. After going back and forth for what felt like an eternity, we finally settled on an action/adventure film.
I remember being excited since the previews for it had looked really good.
The movie itself ended up being just okay in my opinion. The special effects and action sequences were cool, but the plot was
fairly predictable. I had seen similar storylines in other movies before. Still, it was entertaining enough and I enjoyed getting to spend time with Sarah and Amanda. We hadn't all hung out together in awhile due to our busy schedules.
After the movie got out around 9:30 PM, we weren't ready to call it a night yet. Amanda suggested we go to the diner near campus to get some food and catch up more. Sarah and I didn't need any convincing - we were both starving after sitting through a two-hour movie.
We got a booth towards the back of the diner once we arrived. Even though it was getting late, the place was still fairly busy with groups of students and families. I ended up ordering a cheeseburger with fries while the girls went with salads. We chatted about everything from classes to relationships to what we wanted to do over our upcoming summer vacation.
At one point, our conversation turned towards plans for next weekend. Sarah mentioned that her parents were going out of town and she was thinking about throwing a small get-together at her place. She said we could invite a few other friends over to hang out and relax. Amanda and I were immediately on board with the idea. We hadn't been to an actual party or kickback in
quite awhile. With midterms finished, it would be a great way to blow off some steam.
We paid for our meals and finally left the diner around 11:30 PM. I remember feeling completely recharged and energized, despite how late it was getting. I was looking forward to spending more time with Sarah and Amanda over the weekend.
The next morning, I ended up sleeping in until around 10 AM. After getting ready for the day, I spent a couple of hours working on an English paper that was due early the next week. As much as I tried to focus, I couldn't stop thinking about Sarah's idea of having a get-together at her place that night.
Once I had made significant progress on my paper, I decided to take a break. I texted Sarah to see if she had finalized any details for the evening. She said the party was still on and we could start arriving at her place around 9 PM. She also said she was going to pick up some snacks and beverages beforehand.
With the party plans solidified, the rest of my day was spent relaxing and trying to mentally prepare for going back to school on Monday. I ended up watching a few shows I had downloaded and went for a jog around the neighborhood to get some exercise.
Around 8 PM, I started getting ready to go to Sarah's. I took a shower, put on a decent outfit, and grabbed some money in case we wanted to order food later in the night. I also made sure to bring my ID, just in case.
I arrived at Sarah's place right around 9 PM. Amanda and a few other friends from school were already there when I knocked on the door. The atmosphere was chill and low-key at first. We all sat around in Sarah's living room, listening to music, snacking on chips and salsa, and catching up.
As the night went on, more and more people started showing up. By around 11 PM, there had to be over 20 people packed into Sarah's place. I struck up conversations with not just my core friend group, but branched out and socialized with a bunch of other students I knew more casually from classes and clubs.
At one point, our friend Dylan mentioned he。
