In English,as in Chinese,we (改变) the way wespeak when we talk with different people. The (表达) you use might (依赖) on whom you are speaking to or how well you know them.If you say to yourteacher,“When is theschool trip?”,this might sound (不礼貌的).But if yousay,“Excuse me,Mr.West.Do you know when the schooltrip is?”,this will sound much more polite.H owever,it is all right to ask direct questions in some (情况),like with your classmates.
Usually polite questions are (长的) and includemore language such as “Could you please ...” or “Can I ask ...” It sounds more polite tosay,“Peter, could you pleas e tell me your e-mail(地址)?” than“Peter, tell meyour e-mail ____(地址).” Sometimes we even need to spendtime ____(导致) in to a request. For example, with a (陌生人) on the street, wemight first say,“Excuse me,I wonder if you can helpme” or “I’m sorry to____(打扰) you,but ...” before asking for help.
It might seem more difficult to speak politely thanbe direct. However,it is important to learn how to use (恰当的;合适的) language.Thiswill also help you become better at English,or any other (语言) you wish to speak.
