My Views on University Ranking
In the recent years, university ranking has gained more and more popularity. We can find the authoritative university ranking on related books or websites. It is not exaggerating to say that most students would choose their university on the basis of university ranking.
So, whether the university ranking helps or misleads students to choose university? Before giving my opinion, I think it is important to look at the argument on public. People’s views vary from one to another. People support university ranking for the following three reasons. First and foremost, the students and parents with less experience in choosing universities will benefit from university ranking. Secondly, it is necessary to build a competitive atmosphere among universities by ranking them. Last but not the least, university ranking is a good reference for employer to recruit staffs.
The other person who oppose to university ranking express their worry that it have a negative influence on students, which makes them choose university only concerning about the ranking but not their true interest.
Personally, according to my experience, I claim that university ranking is important to students, at least contemporary students. Since when I finished the college entrance exam, I knew nothing about universities. Thanks to university ranking, I learnt a lot from it. I knew which university is good, what’s the major each university good at, etc. Under the guide of university ranking, combined with my personal interest and trait, I choose the right university and the right major.。
