Edmund Halley(哈雷)was an English scientist who lived over 200 years ago. He studied the observations of ets which other scientists had made. The orbit(轨道)of one particular et was a very difficult mathematical problem. He could not work it out. Neither could other scientists who dealt with such problems.
However, Halley had a friend named Newton, who was a brilliant(有才华的) mathematician. Newton thought he had already worked out that problem, but he could not find the papers on which he had done it. He told Halley that the orbit of a et had the shape of an ellipse(椭圆).
Now Halley set to work. He worked out the orbits of some of the ets that
had been observed by other scientists. He made a surprising discovery. The ets that had appeared in the years 1531, 1607, and 1682 all had the same orbit. Yet their appearances had been 75 to 76 years apart.
This seemed very strange to Halley. The different ets followed the same orbit. The more Halley thought about it, the more he thought that there had not been three different ets, as people thought. He decided that they had simply seen the same et three times. The et had gone away and had e back again.
It was an amazing idea! Halley felt certain enough to make a prediction of what would happen in the future. He decided that this et would appear in the year 1758. There were 53 years to go before Halley’s prediction could be tested.
In 1758 the et appeared in the sky. Halley did not see it, for he had died some years before. Ever since then that et has been called Halley’s et, in his honor.

Shopping online in search of a bargain(便宜货)can often leave you feeling disappointed or out of pocket rather than satisfied. You can avoid this by following our simple advice:
PRODUCT — Before you look for the cheapest piece you need to decide what product you actually want. You can do this by researching online, the easiest way is to Google for different products so that you can decide on what would be best for you.
SEARCH & PARE— You are now ready to use a parison website to try and find out the best prices. You should never just use on parison website, using two or more will give you a balanced view of the market. parison websites are necessary.
You need to first check out what kind of technology a site uses. Although the idea behind Froogle ( now called Google Products ) is attractive, the technology it uses is not as advanced as sites such as Kelkoo and Pricerunner. Froogle uses a regular search engine.
And don’t expect price parison sites to be a sure-fire way of getting a bargain. The sites will only show products from panies who pay them. This
is not necessarily a bad thing – suppliers value their reputation(名声)and their business relationships..
AND SEARCH AGAIN—Before you buy you should search the product using a price parison service, then try again just using a standard search engine — it might find the product with a cheaper price.
If you use Firefox to surf the web then there’s an add-on(附加的)tool you can download which finds the cheapest price for a product for you.
It is called the Invisible Hand and it is free to download. For example, if you’re shopping online at Amazon, the Invisible Hand will pop up and tell you that it is £ 56cheaper at Dixons.
The tool will only work when you are looking at products, so it shouldn’t disturb your day to day internet s urfing. The add-on is supported by well knows brands(品牌)such as BT, et HMV but obviously it won’t search every single site out there, so it is still best to use a parison site in addition to the tool.

A. By shopping online.
B. By searching online.
C. By looking for the cheapest price.
D. By deciding which is
best.
62. We can learn from the passage that .
A. we don’t need to use two or more parison websites

Is you blood pressure so high that your doctor has warned you that you may be in danger?
Of course, you know all the best ways for bringing it back down. He’s told you to quit smoking, lose weight, exercise daily and cut back on the beer and bacon – all very difficult and unpleasant tasks.
But there’s another way to keep you blood pressure low, which might be the easiest method of all: Be part of a happy couple. (Though e to think of it, it could also be the hardest.)
In a recent study from Brigham Young University, researchers investigated the blood pressure of 99 single and 204 married adults over a 24-hour period, after asking them questions about the quality of their relationships with both partner and friends. According to their findings, men and women who feel fulfilled in their marriages have lower blood pressure than single people, no matter how many friends they have.
“They seem to benefit from marriage,” the study’s author, Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad said in a st atement. “It’s not just being married that benefits health. The most protective of health is having a happy
marriage.”
It’s true: The study participants who said their partners made them miserable had higher blood pressure than both the happy couples and the single people. So if you don’t get along well with your partner, too much time with him or her may actually raise your blood pressure. On the other hand, if you’re lucky enough to be living fortably, you can take advantages in the fact that your partner is helping your health.

B. if you have a happy family, you will keep you blood pressure low
C. it is a marriage that keeps you blood pressure low

写作范文:
China is now more and more involved in international events, so it is necessary for us to improve the qualities of the citizens as manners play an important role in international munication.
Sometimes some people don’t behave properly in our daily lives. For example, spitting in public places can be seen somewhere. The flowers in public gardens are picked. What is worse, rubbish and plastic bags are
thrown on the ground in the street.
In my opinion, these bad behaviors will make bad impressions upon visitors to China, which will ruin the good reputation of China as a large country with a long history. So all people should be taught to be well-behaved and every one of us should form good habits from now on.。
