描写家庭社区活动的英语作文,志愿者My Big Day as a Volunteer
Wow, what an exciting day it was last Saturday! Our neighborhood had a big community event and I got to be a volunteer helper. I had been looking forward to it for weeks.
It was called the "Spring Community Fair" and it was held at the park near my house. When my mom and I arrived in the morning, there were already lots of people setting up booths and activities everywhere on the grassy areas. I could smell delicious food cooking from the snack tents. My eyes grew wide looking at all the colorful decorations and game stands.
"Emma, come over here!" I heard a voice call out. It was Mrs. Taylor, one of the parents who was organizing the volunteer activities. I rushed over to her booth where she had a table with a bunch of supplies. "I'm so glad you're here to help out today," she said with a warm smile. "We're going to be doing face painting for the kids. Let me show you how it's done."
Mrs. Taylor got out the different paints, brushes, and stencil designs and taught me the face painting techniques. We practiced on each other first before the kids started arriving. I painted a pretty butterfly design on her cheek and she made a
fierce-looking tiger on my face. We both cracked up laughing at how silly we looked.
Before I knew it, the fair was in full swing and there was a whole line of kids waiting for their faces to be painted. They came with their friends and parents, squirming eagerly while waiting for their turn. I sat down at the table and got to work.
The first boy asked for a superhero mask, so I carefully painted his face red and blue with a Spider-Man design across his eyes and nose. He loved it! Next was a little girl who wanted to be a kitty cat. I gave her whiskers on her cheeks and a cute little pink nose. She meowed adorably and skipped away.
One after another, I transformed kids into wizards, mythical creatures, flowers, you name it. I used up every stencil and just started freestyle painting whatever they requested. A pirate face with a bouncy mustache and eyepatch. A regal princess with a tiara across her forehead. Even a Green Lantern design that covered most of a boy's entire face!
My favorite was making a sweet old man with rosy cheeks, a long white mustache, and thick eyebrows for a younger boy. He looked in the mirror and cackled, "Why I'm as old as Methuselah!" We all collapsed in giggles.
Every now and then, I'd take a break to walk around and check out the rest of the fair. There were carnival games with rings to toss and darts to throw. A duck pond to fish for little prizes. Even a cake walk happening on the pavilion area. Kids were running around with painted faces, carrying toys and stuffed animals they had won. The sound of laughter and music filled the air.
But what I loved most was the food court area. The smells of funnel cakes and chicken teriyaki made my mouth water. I used some of my volunteer credits to buy a fresh lemonade and a few churros to snack on. Those churros were piping hot and coated with so much cinnamon-sugar that my face must have gotten just as messy as the kids' I was painting!
As the day went on, it got incredibly hot under the sun. Mrs. Taylor and I had to take turns getting up to walk around and cool off every so often. When parents or other volunteers offered to take over for a bit, we gladly took a break to re-hydrate and
re-apply sunscreen. Even though we were tuckered out, we didn't want to let those bright, eager little faces down.
By late afternoon, the lines finally started dwindling and there were just a few stragglers left to get their faces transformed into butterflies or tigers or pirates. I could feel the
day wrapping up but I didn't want it to end. I loved every exhausting minute of being a volunteer face painter.
When the fair finally closed down, all the kids left with cheeks rosy from running around. Their faces beamed with joy, wearing the colorful designs we had painted with such pride. As Mrs. Taylor and I cleaned up our booth, ta king one last look at the leftover messy paints and crumpled stencils, we couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear.
"You were such a superstar today, Emma!" Mrs. Taylor said, giving me a high-five. "All those kids looked so happy with their painted faces. You have a real talent!"
As I walked home, tired and sweaty but still on a natural high, I felt so proud of my volunteer work. I got to be a part of something special for our community. I can't wait for next year's fair to do it all over again. Maybe I'll be really ambitious and paint whole arms or legs too! My little brother better watch out - I might just use him as a practice canvas.
Being a face painting volunteer for a day may have been messy and draining, but it filled my heart to see all those joyous kids. Their smiles, laughter, and newly-transformed faces will be something I'll never forget. This was just the start of many more years of volunteering to come!。
