现吨市安达阳光实验学校Passage 1The latest research suggests that the key factor separating geniuses from the merely accomplished is not I.Q., a generally bad predictor of success. Instead, it’s purposeful practice. Top performers spend more hours practising their craft. It you wanted to picture how a typical genius might develop, you’d take a girl who possessed a slightly above average language ability. It wouldn’t have to be a big talent, just enough so that she might gain some sense of distinction. Then you would want her to meet, say, a novelist, who coincidentally shared some similar qualities. Maybe the writer was from the same town, had the same family background, or shared the same birthday. This contact would give the girl a vision of her future self. It would hive her some idea of a fascinating circle who might someday join. It would also help if one of her parents died when she was 12, giving her a strong sense of insecurity and fuelling a desperate need for success. Armed with this ambition, she would read novels and life stories of writers without end. This would give her a primary knowledge of her field. She’s be able to see new writing in deeper ways and quickly understand its inner workings. Then she would practise writing. Her practice would be slow, painstaking and error-focused. By practising in this way, he delays the automatizing process. Her mind wants to turn conscious, newly learned skills into unconscious. Automatically performed skills. By practising slowly, by breaking skills down into tiny parts and repeating, she forces the brain to internalize a better pattern of performance. Then she would find an adviser who would provide a constant stream of feedback, viewing her performance form the outside, correcting the smallest errors, pushing her to take on tougher challenges. By now she is redoing problems-how do I get characters into a room-dozens and dozens of times. She is establishing habits of thought she can call upon in order to understand or solve future problems. The primary quality our young writer possesses is not some mysterious genius. It’s the ability to develop a purposeful, laborious and boring practice routine; the latest research takes some of the magic out of great achievement. But it underlines a fact that is often neglected. Public discussion is affected by genetics and what we’re “hard-wired” to do. And it’s true that genes play a role in our capabilities. But the brain is also very plastic. We construct ourselves through behaviour.76. The passage mainly deals with_____.A. the function of I.Q. in cultivating a writerB. the relationship between genius and successC. the decisive factor in making a geniusD. the way of gaining some sense of distinction77. By reading novels and writers’ stories, the girlcould _____.A. come to understand the inner structure of writingB. join a fascinating circle of writers somedayC. share with a novelist her likes and dislikesD. learn from the living examples to establish a sense of security78. In the girl’s lon g painstaking training process,________.A. her adviser forms a primary challenging force to her success.B. her writing turns into an automatic pattern of performanceC. she acquires the magic of some great achievementD. she comes to realize she is “hard-wired” to write79. What can be concluded from the passage?A. A fuelling ambition plays a leading role in one’s successB. A responsible adviser is more important than the knowledge of writing.C. As to the growth of a genius, I.Q. Doesn’t matter, but just his|her effort.D. What really matters is what you do rather than who you are.答案 76.C 77.A 78.B 79.DPassage 2Remembering names is an important social skill. After you’ve been introduced to someone, ask that person to spell the name mad pronounce it correctly for you. 最新高三英语阅读理解专项训练100(附答案)一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Durian(榴莲) is probably the smelliest fruit in the world, letting out an unusual unpleasant smell which would make anyone bring up. However, nobody was aware of what gave this fruit its unique smell, so a team of researchers from Singapore decided to take a look at its genome (基因组) and find out,Durian is well-known throughout Southeast Asia as the king of fruits, mostly because of its awful appearance and smell. However, the origin of this unpleasant smell was unknown, so researchers decided to map the genome of the fruit, and find the gene that controlled it. A group of genes, volatile sulfur compounds (含硫化合物), became very active in the fruit, and they were found responsible for resulting in the unpleasant smell. The fruit confuses everyone with a sulfuric smell, like rotten onions and ingredients. The smell lasts long, mostly because the fruit contains more volatile sulfur compounds. Other species usually benefit from two gene copies at most, but durian has four, leading to the striking smell. However, this smell might be an advantage for durian in the wild. Although we find it unpleasant, many animals might be attracted by it. If they eat the fruit, then they can easily spread its seeds everywhere, thus contributing to the distribution of the species. The mapping of the durian genome also showed some other information on the species. First of all, the fruit has an impressive number of genes, namely 46,000. Also, with the help of these genes, they saw how it evolved, and discovered it was related to the cacao tree. All the other discoveries have been published in the journal Nature Genetics.Despite the striking smell, many people actually enjoy eating the fruit. However, not all durian species are edible, and some of them may even cause damage to our health, Even so, the fruit is often imported, significantly contributing to the economy.(1)What give durian its unique smell?A. Onions nearby.B. Two gene copies.C. Rotten ingredients in it.D. Volatile sulfur compounds.(2)What does the underlin ed word “evolved” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?A. Developed.B. Escaped.C. Predicted.D. Tolerated.(3)What can we infer from the text?A. No birds enjoy eating durian.B. Durian can be planted all over the world.C. Some of durian species can not be eaten.D. Durian has no relationship with the cacao tree.(4)What's the best title for the text?A. What's Durian?B. The Influence of the SmellC. The Distribution of DurianD. As we didn't always have access to a reliable car, walking hand in hand was the most convenient way to get anywhere. It was at story time for children that both my mother and I made lasting friendships.Today, I am fortunate to live around the corner from the Cold Coast Public Library in Glen Head and a short walk to the Sea Cliff Children's Library. My 18-imonth-old son, Colin, and I find ourselves in Sea Cliff several times a week, meeting and making friends. Well, that is what many people don't understand-a library is more than books; it's a community.Sure, the library in Franklin Square was the place where I was introduced to Judy Blume novels. But it was also the place where I got my first email address in 1997. At the library, friends and I learned how to research colleges and search for scholarships on the Internet. The library was the place where we sometimes giggled(咯咯笑)too loudly, and where the librarians knew us by name. Their knowing our names wasn't a bad thing. When I came home from my first term at Binghamton University, Mary LaRosa, the librarian at the Franklin Square library, offered me my first teaching job.I now teach reading at Nassau Community College. My students are often amazed that they can check out books via their smartphones and virtually(虚拟地)visit a variety of Long Island libraries. The app used by Nassau and Suffolk county public libraries, as well as the college library, makes their homework easier by helping them find resources. Even though they can't always easily visit their local libraries, the library is always with them.(1)Why does the author consider herself lucky today?A. She has become her mother's best friend.B. She has access to a reliable car now.C. She can meet friends at the library.D. She lives close to libraries.(2)What does the underlined word "that" in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. Socializing in a library.B. Reading books in a library.C. Visiting a library with a family member.D. Building parent-child friendship in a library.(3)What is the author's attitude to her students' way of visiting libraries?A. Cautious.B. Favorable.C. Doubtful.D. Disapproving.(4)Why does the author write the text?A. To discuss why libraries are important.B. To express her deep love for libraries.C. To explain how libraries change.D. To introduce her favorite libraries.【答案】(1)D(2)A(3)B(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,作者讲述了从自己小时候到成家生子再到工作教书这一路上图书馆的变化。

All human societies play games. Kicking a ball can be found everywhere whether just a ball of cloth, or a skin stuffed with feathers or air.But complex games and team sports have tended to arise in big civilizations- the higher the cultural level of a society, the greater the complexity of interaction, and hence perhaps the more complex the forms of sport. This is not always the case. The ancient Greeks, for example, preferred individual not team sports. But in China for well over 2,000 years, people played the game of“kickball"—cuju. The members were often young men from wealthy families though there were alsoprofessional kickballers, whom you could stick with in your team as sleepers.Cuju was played as entertainment at court banquets or the reception of foreign ambassadors. Even emperors played kickball. As you'd expect in a Confucian society, kickball clubs were keen on the key qualities of mercy and courtesy. A great player was one who showed“the spirit of the game". The "Ten Essentials of Kickball" included respect for other players, polite behaviors and team spirit. There was to be no ungentlemanly behavior, no dangerous play, and no hogging ( 独占) the ball. In other words, as we used to say,“play up and play the game."What a contrast with the ancient Greek athletics where only victory counted and if that needed gamesmanship, or cruel professional fouls (犯规) , then so be it.As a way of national culture protection, cuju was listed into the first batch of China's intangible cultural heritages (非物质文化遗产) in 2006.1. What does the underlined phrase“stuffed with" mean in paragraph 1?A. Filled with.B. Decorated with.C. Surrounded with.D. Covered with.2. What probably contributes to the complicated games?A. Teams.B. Interaction.C. Society.D. Civilizations.3. Who were the major members in a cuju team according to the text?A. Sleepers.B. The rich young men.C. Emperors.D. The professional athletes.4. What is the fifth paragraph mainly about?A. Kickball's popularity.B. Kickball's development.C. Kickball's importance.D. Kickball's characteristics.参考答案1——4 CACB。

吉林辽源市第五中学校最新高考英语阅读理解精选附答案一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Thirteen vehicles lined up last March to race across the Mojave Desert, seeking a million in prize money. To win, they had to finish the 142-mile race in less than 10 hours. Teams and watchers knew there might be no winner at all, because these vehicles were missing a key part-drivers.DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, organized the race as part of a push to develop robotic vehicles for future battlefields. But the Grand Challenge, as it was called, just proved how difficult it is to get a car to speed across an unfamiliar desert without human guidance. One had its brake lock up in the starting area. Another began by throwing itself onto a wall. Another got tied up by bushes near the road after 1.9 miles. One turned upside down. One took off in entirely the wrong direction and had to be disabled by remote control. One went a little more than a mile and rushed into a fence; another managed to go for six miles but stuck on a rock. The "winner," if there was any, reached 7.8 miles before it ran into a long, narrow hole, and the front wheels caught on fire."You get a lot of respect for natural abilities of the living things," says Reinhold Behringer, who helped design two of the car-size vehicles for a company called Sci-Autonics. "Even ants (蚂蚁) can do all these tasks effortlessly. It's very hard for us to put these abilities into our machines."The robotic vehicles, though with necessary modern equipment such as advanced computers and GPS guidance, had trouble figuring out fast enough the blocks ahead that a two-year-old human recognizes immediately. Sure, that very young child, who has just only learned to walk, may not think to wipe apple juice off her face, but she already knows that when there's a cookie in the kitchen she has to climb up the table, and that when she gets to the cookie it will taste good. She is more advanced, even months old, than any machine humans have designed.(1)Watchers doubted if any of the vehicles could finish the race because_____.A. they did not have any human guidanceB. the road was not familiar to the driversC. the distance was too long for the vehiclesD. the prize money was unattractive to the drivers(2)DARPA organized the race in order to_____.A. raise money for producing more robotic vehiclesB. push the development of vehicle industryC. train more people to drive in the desertD. improve the vehicles for future wars(3)From the passage we know "robotic vehicles" are a kind of machines that _____.A. can do effortlessly whatever tasks living thing canB. can take part in a race across 142 miles with a time limitC. can show off their ability to turn themselves upside downD. can move from place to place without being driven by human beings(4)In the last paragraph, the writer implies that there is a long way to go______.A. for a robotic vehicle to finish a 142-mile race without any difficultiesB. for a little child who has just learned to walk to reach the cookie on the tableC. for a robotic vehicle to deal with a simple problem that a little child can solveD. for a little child to understand the importance of wiping apple juice off its face【答案】(1)A(2)D(3)D(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了DARPA组织一次汽车越野比赛,目的是想改进未来战场上的机器人汽车,并介绍了这些机器汽车的优点和缺点。

2020年高三英语材料之阅读理解精品版高三英语材料之阅读理解阅读理解1ABesides entertainment and beautiful lanterns, another important part of the Lantern Festival ,or Yuanxiao Festival is eating small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour. We call these balls Yuanxiao or Tangyuan. Obviously, they get the name from the festival itself. It is said that the custom of eating Yuanxiao originated during the Eastern Jin Dynasty in the fourth century, then became popular during the Tang and Song periods. The fillings inside the dumplings or Yuansiao are either sweet or salty. Sweet fillings are made of sugar, Walnuts, sesame(芝麻), osmanthus flowers(桂花), rose petals, sweetened tangerine(橘子)peel, bean paste, or jujube paste(枣子酱). A single ingredient or any combination can be used as the filling . The salty variety is filled with minced meat(肉末儿), vegetables or a mixture. The way to make Yuanxiao also varies between northern and southern China. The usual method followed in southern provinces is to shape the dough of rice flour into balls, make a hole, insert the filling, then close the hole and smooth out the dumpling by rolling it between your hands. In North China, sweet or nutmeat stuffing is the usual ingredient. The fillings are pressed into hardened cores, dipped lightly in water and rolled in a flat basket containing dry glutinous rice flour. A layer of the flour sticks to the filling, which is then again dipped in water and rolled a second time in the rice flour. And so it goes, like rolling a snowball, until the dumpling is the desired size. The custom of eating Yuanxiao dumplings remains. Those results could be improper because the studies involved older people, and women live longer than men: The men tested are the survivors, "so they're the ones that may not have shown such cognitive decline," said study team leader Elizabeth of the University of Warwick in England.People surveyed completed four tasks that tested sex-related cognitive skills: matching an object to its rotated form, matching lines shown from the same angle, typing as many words in a particular category (范畴) as possible in the given time, e.g. "object usually colored gray", and recalling the location of objects in a line drawing. The first two were tasks at which men usually excel; the latter are typically dominated by women.Within each age group studied, men and women performed better in their separate categories on average. And though performance declined with age for both genders, women showed obviously less decline than men overall.1. Near the generating area, both the earthquake and the tsunami were very much destructive, particularly in the coastal area from Concepcion to the south end of Isla Chiloe. The largest tsunami damage occurred at Isla Chiloe---the coastal area closest to the epicenter(震中). Huge tsunami waves measuring as high as 25 meters arrived within 10 to 15 minutes after the earthquake, killing at least two hundred people, sinking all the boats, and flooding half a kilometer inland. There was large damage and loss of life at Concepcion, Chile's top industrial city. Near the city of Valdivia, the earthquake and following aftershocks generated landslides which killed 18 people. At the port city of Valparaiso, a city of 200,000, many buildings collapsed. A total of 130,000 houses were destroyed --- one in every three in the earthquake zone and nearly 2,000,000 people were left homeless.Total damage losses, including to agriculture and to industry, were estimated(估计) to be over a half billion dollars . The total number of death related with both the tsunami and the earthquake was never found accurately for the region. Estimates of deaths reached between 490 to 5,7002 with no distinction(差别) as to how many deaths were caused by the earthquake and how many were caused by the tsunami. However, it is believed that most of the deaths in Chile were caused by the tsunami.1. Before this time health care had to be paid for by individuals.Nowadays central government is directly responsible for the NHS although it is administered by local health authorities. About 83 percent of the cost of the health serviceis paid for by general taxation and the rest is met from the National Insurance contributions paid by those in work. There are charges for prescription and dental care but many people, such as children, pregnant women, pensioners, and those on Income Support, are exempt from payment. Most people are registered with a local doctor (a GP, or General Practitioner) who is increasingly likely to be part of a health centre which serves the community. As the population of Britain gets older, the hospital service now treats more patients than before, although patients spend less time in hospital. NHS hospitals—many of which were built in the nineteenth century—provide nearly half a million beds and have over 480, 000 medical staff. The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe although Britain actually spends less per person on health care than most of her European neighbours.During the 1980s there was considerable restructuring of the Health Service with an increased emphasis on managerial efficiency and the privatization of some services (for example, cleaning). At the end of the 1980s the government introduced proposals for further reform of the NHS, including allowing some hospitals to be self-governing, and encouraging GPs to compete for patients. Patients would be able to choose and change their family doctor more easily and GPs would have more financial responsibility. The political questions continue of how much money should be provided to support the NHS and where it should come from.1. We can know from the first paragraph that ______.A. the original aim of the NHS was to provide equal basic health care for everybodyB. people didn’t have to pay for health care since the NHS was set upC. patients were charged for receiving health care before 1948D. the NHS was an organization which gave free advice to villagers2. What do we know about the NHS?A. It’s managed by the central government.B. Its cost is mainly paid for by the National Insurance contributions.C. It hires more people than any other unit in Europe.D. Fewer patients go to its hospitals than before because they spend less on health care.3 All the following statements about GPs are true except that they ______.A. take care of the local people’s healthB. often take part in competitions to see who is the bestC. work under high pressure nowadaysD. have more responsibilities than before4. What does the underlined word “exempt” probably mean?A. sufferingB. differentC. preventedD. free5.
