Teaching Plan for Unit 7What’s the Highest Mountain in the World? Section B(2b-3b)Part one:The Analysis of the TeachingI. The analysis of the teaching materialThis period is taken from Section B of Unit 7, Grade Eight, PEP edition. It is a reading. The main topic of this period is about pandas and animal protection. By studying of this lesson, we will enable students to know some facts about pandas and whales and how we can help protect them. The topic is related to wild animals so we can arouse students interests by using examples connected to animals that students are familiar with.II. The analysis of the studentsStudents in Grade Eight have the basic skills of listening, reading, writing to some degree. But their habits of learning English haven’t been formed well during their ages. They’re lack of self-control and self-confidence in English studying. So, as their English teacher, I’ll try to teach them with more interesting teaching methods and modern facilities to attract them and help them to set up confidence of teaching English with more patience and love.III. Teaching aims1. Knowledge aims1.1. Master the curriculum words and useful expressions: endangered, research, keeper, awake, excitement, government, wild, walk into, fall over, etc.1.2. These can form a relaxing atmosphere and let students get ready for the next step.Step2. Presentation (25 minutes)2.1. Teach activity 2a ( Pre -reading ).I will show a short video and some pictures about pandas on the screen and ask students questions related to those pictures. This part is designed to arouse students’ interest on pandas and make students get familiar with pandas as well as important words and expressions in 2b.2. 2. Teach activity 2b(while-reading ).I’ll lead students to read the article on page 54 by doing four tasks.Task 1. This part is going to introduce a reading strategy for students, so I pick out four numbers ( 10, 12, 300, 2000) and ask students to scan the article to find out what these numbers mean. Task 2. Read paragraph 1 carefully and fill the following chart. This part is designed to trai n students’ reading skill of searching for important information.Task 3. Read paragraph 2 and answer the questions ( What is Lin Wei's job? / Does Lin Wei love pandas? Why? ).This part is designed to improve students’ability of answering wh -questions .Task 4. Ask students read paragraphs 3 and 4. While reading, students need to fill the blanks of the mind map.3 and4 with me. Because I think these two paragraphs are useful for their writing practice. This part is designed to introduce a reading strategy—mind map for students and make preparation for writing..Step3. If necessary, I will help them finish the task. This part is going to develop students’writing skill and arouse students’ responsibility to protect wild animals.Step5. Summary(2 minutes). In this period, we’ve mainly learnt about pandas and the ways that can help protect them through a reading material. And we also mastered some words and improved our reading and comprehensive skills. Later, we consolidated the knowledge by writing practice.Step6. Homework (1 minutes).1. Think about other ways that can help to save the pandas.2. Make a poster(海报)for WWF.Part three:Teaching reflectionConsidering the main topic of this period, I led students to talk about their favorite animals so that they could pay their attention to the teaching material. Then I introduced some facts about pandas as well as the new words by showing students pictures and a short video. Students were active during this part and they wanted to know more about pandas. So we came to the reading naturally. While reading, I also introduced students two reading strategies—scanning and mind map by asking them to do some tasks. During this part, most of the students did very well and they finished those tasks quickly and correctly. After reading, I asked students to finish the paragraph related to whales protection by setting up a situation. Since time limited, I only invited one group to show their work in front of the class. So I will try my best to invite more students to share their pieces next time.。
