AI’ve been having trouble concentrating on one thing. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it. ” She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are not different from your classmates, young man.”I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.Wasn’t I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the“ sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up?I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day — with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See what you can do when you keep trying?”Inspired and touched, I began to keep trying hard in my study and struggled against attention problems. I believe one can find his way out of difficulty with determination(决心)and efforts.1. Why didn’t the author finish his reading in class?A. He missed several classes before.B. He was not a bit interested in literature.C. He was unable to concentrate on his task.D. He was used to doing his homework at home.2. What kind of teacher is Mrs. Smith according to the text?A. Impatient.B. Encouraging.C. Disappointing.D. Careless.3. What can we learn from the last paragraph?A. You can never be too old to learn.B. Do not judge a book by its cover.C. One good turn deserves another.D. Where there is a will, there is a way.BSitting close with your little ones from an early age and enjoying a book together is always a great way to spend time, but do you know reading to your children has a whole range of benefits that will give them a flying start in life?Firstly, it’s a great introduction to vocabulary. Seeing an adult sounding out the words and linking them to the shapes on the page begins to build up vocabulary that they will use for the rest of their life. Then there are a variety of good effects of hearing stories which improve their minds and develop social awareness and skills. At a time when they are perhaps stuck indoors more than ever before, reading is the best way to motivate(激发)children’s imagination. They can travel to the moon, meet the Gruffalo and pop in to a chocolate factory all before they’ve even had lunch! There’s no better way to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes than reading their stories and seeing things from another’s point of view is a great way to build empathy(共鸣), tolerance and other qualities needed. There are some fantastic children’s books which show characters acting as strong role models. These stories can encourage future leaders and thinkers, so every child can feel they can achieve their dreams, from the Little Leaders series to Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls(叛逆女孩).Now is the perfect time to build up a library of excellent reads ready for children to enjoy now and in the future. They will create memories to last a lifetime. On top of the benefits for your little ones, it’s fun, relaxing and a great chance to go back and reread the best books from your own childhood.4. What kind of people is the text written for?A. Parents.B. Children.C. Teachers.D. Leaders.5. What does the underlined phrase “pop in to” in paragraph 3 probably mean?A. Start.B. Visit.C. Build.D. Leave.6. In which way does Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls do good to children?A. Going to bed easily at bedtime.B. Building good qualities.C. Building a strong body.D. Bringing back sweet memories.7. What is the text mainly about?A. Children’s reading habits.B. Children’s reading materials.C. Benefits of reading to children.D. Ways of reading children’s books.CBegun 30 years ago, the Kubuqi desert greening project has succeeded in not only controlling the fast growth of the seventh-largest desert in China, about the size of Kuwait, but also turning about 6, 000 square kilometers of the desert — one-third of it — green. The desert lies about 800 kilometers to the west of Beijing in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region(自治区)and the greening efforts have also controlled desertification(沙漠化)in the rest of the area. The project, which began about 30 years ago, can be looked to as an example of efforts to advance green development, in order to create harmony between humans and nature, and leave a better environment for future generations. The success of the project, which has been praised by the UN Environment Programme as an “eco-pioneer”, sets an example for successful desertification control and ecosystem improvement based on effective government policies, supported by investment(投资)in the eco industry and combined with the efforts of local farmers. These three aspects are key to the success of the “Kubuqi model”.Elion, a private ecology(生态)and investment company, has invested about 38 billion yuan($5.82 billion)in the Kubuqi desert-greening project since 1988 helping to lift about 102, 000 local farmers out of poverty. For example, the locals grow a drought-tolerant(耐旱)plant, Chinese licorice, which is the most used herb in traditional Chinese medicine. The plant helps enrich the desert soil, with the bacteria around the roots of the plants producing nitrogen(氮气). Besides, Cistanche, another type of drought-tolerant herb, was introduced after the successful planting of licorice. Under the company’s guidance and with the local government’s support, the local people benefit from the “environmental wealth”.More companies should be encouraged to apply the “Kubuqi model” in other desert control projects in Inner Mongolia and neighboring Gansu province, where the climate conditions are similar but not quite the same, so as to further gain experience and enrich the model in practice. Showing it can be successfully applied in other areas will help promote the model worldwide.8. What do we know about the Kubuqi greening project?A. It increases the areas of desert.B. It has turned all of the desert green.C. It has achieved satisfying results.D. It is applied all over the world.9. Which is NOT the reason for the success of the “Kubuqi model”?A. Efforts of local farmers.B. Government policies’ support.C. Investment in the eco-industry.D. Help from the UN Environment Programme.10. What is the author’s attitude towards the greening project?A. Negative.B. Doubtful.C. Supportive.D. Indifferent.

2021年高二上学期第一次(10月)月考英语试题含答案第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)I was in a shopping mall recently, and I decided to go and get a cup of tea. As I was making my way to the coffee shop, I noticed an old gentleman rather poorly dressed sitting on a bench nearby. I knew from the first sight that he was in need of some kind of help. He had a little lunch in front of him and was wholeheartedly enjoying it.There was a young man in front of me in the line also waiting to be served. The young man handed the servant a twenty-dollar bill and asked for an orange juice as well as a favor. The servant looked at the young man with a little surprise, not fully understanding him. The young man asked her to give the juice to the old gentleman eating his lunch outside on the bench. The young man also told her that he would be watching every second so that she would be pletely safe at all times. Later, there was a wonderful exchange (交换) between the waitress and the old man. I only wished I had taken a photo of the smiles on both of their faces. As I was thinking about this event later on, I wondered why the young man didn’t just perform this act of kindness himself. I thought he was hoping thatthis act of kindness might inspire others to do something for the old man as well. Thinking of the happy smiles on the old man’s face, I felt how worthwhile it is to help others.21. The underlined word “favor” in Para. 2 refers to .A. passing the young man a cup of orange juiceB. buying lunch for the old manC. giving the juice to the old manD. exchanging meals with the old man22. Which of the following can be used to describe the young man?A. Humorous and helpful.B. Generous and proud.C. Rich and friendly.D. Kind and considerate.23. In the author’s opinion, the young man asked the servant to take the juice to the old man so that .A. more people would be inspired to do good deedsB. he would bee famous for his good deedC. the old man could probably accept itD. he would bee a friend of the servantBThe Horn of Plenty is one of the largest natural health food stores withinthe Greater Hamilton area. We are big supporters of buying locally and we are here to tell you why it is so important for your family, the munity and the environment. The concept (概念) of buying locally is simple: buy food produced, grown, or raised as close to your home as possible. Not only will your food be fresher and tastier, but you are helping protect the environment and are supporting businesses within your munity and reducing pollution.Better for the environmentSustainability (持续性) and global warming are such hot topics at the moment, and many people want to do their bit to help support a healthier environment. Small action carried out by many people can make a big difference. Most materials in an average North American meal have traveled about 1,500 miles to get from farm to plate. To cut out a big part of this travel would greatly reduce not only pollution from transportation and r efrigeration but also customers’ expenses as well.Taste and nutritional contentLocally-grown fruits and vegetables are usually sold within 24 hours of being harvested. Because they are picked at the height of ripeness (成熟) and travel only a short distance to the market, their freshness, nutrition, and flavor arekept. Produce trucked in from far away may lose both taste and nutritional content.munity and home valuesWhen you buy direct from a farmer or buy locally-grown foods, you are engaging in a time-honored tradition between a grower and an eater. You also help keep dollars within your munity.24. It can be inferred from the third paragraph that .A. global warming is the most serious problem nowB. the increased cost of transporting food is passed on to the customersC. North American food is rich in various kinds of materialsD. most people support buying locally25. Locally-grown fruits and vegetables taste good mostly because .A. they are sent to the market at a high speedB. they are not polluted by chemical fertilizerC. they can be harvested at any timeD. they are picked when they are fully grown26. According to the author, when you buy locally-grown foods .A. you can see how fruits and vegetables growB. you will bee much healthier and prettierC. you will contribute to protecting the environmentD. you are making money from your munity27. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. The benefits of buying locally.B. The popularity of the Horn of Plenty.C. The importance of protecting the environment.D. The way to keep your food tasty and healthy.CPeople often say that money talks. They mean that a person with a lot of money can say how he or she wants things done. But it is not easy to earn enough money to gain this kind of power.Sometimes people in business feel businesses are as dangerous as wild animals in a jungle. They have to be careful if they are to survive the jungle out there. They must not be led into making bogus investments (投资). Bogus means something that is not real. It was said that the word came from a criminal (罪犯) whose name was Borghese. Borghese wrote checks to people although he didn’t have money. After he wrote the checks, he would disappear. So, people who were paid with his checks received nothing.People trying to earn money also must be aware of being ripped off. A personwho is ripped off has had something stolen, or at least has been treated unfairly. To keep from getting ripped off in business, people had better try to earn money step by step instead of getting rich quickly. To be successful, a person in business works hard and tries to get down to brass tacks. For example, a salesman may talk about his product without saying the price. You get down to brass tacks when you say, “It sounds good, but how much does it cost?” Word experts thought the expression came from sailors on ships. They cleaned the bottom of a boat. After they finished, they were down to the brass tacks, the copper pieces that held the boat together. So, if we get down to brass tacks, we can avoid rip-offs and bogus ways of earning money.28. What would happen to those people who make bogus investments?A. They would lose a lot of money.B. They would disappear after that.C. They would receive nothing but checks.D. They were more likely to be punished by law.29. The best way to avoid being ripped off in business is to .A. work as hard as possibleB. ask for checks in advanceC. avoid being wealthy eagerlyD. earn as more money as you can30. When doing business, people prefer to get down to brass tacks to .A. keep themselves from being fooledB. develop more ways of earning moneyC. reduce their production costsD. get in touch with more partners31. In which part of a newspaper can we find this passage?A. News and business.B. The history of language.C. Words and their stories.D. Funny new expressions.DMore often than not, people will look at the phone screen to check for new messages or have a quick look at Facebook. Researchers have now found why we often feel such a strong need to look at our phones. Using the mobile phone, they say, is contagious (蔓延的).A team says people are twice as likely to pull out their phones to check their text messages or e-mails if they’re with someone that has just done the same. They also found that women were more likely to use their mobile phones than men. The team watched students in dining halls and coffee shops around the college, observing pairs of college students sitting at tables for as long as 20 minutes and recording their cellphone use. “What we found most interesting was just how often people were using their mobile phones,” Dr. Daniel Kruger, the study’s co-author, said. “Every person we studi ed used his or her phoneat least once while one woman was on hers about half of the time. People saw others checking their ining messages and began to check their own.”“Cellphones create another choice for one’s attention and may both support and disagre e with live social activities,” the researchers wrote. Kruger believed this could be explained by the effects of social inclusion (包含) and exclusion (排除). If one person in a pair starts a conversation through his phone, the other one may feel excluded and then feel the need to get in touch with others so as not to feel left out.The researchers note that they might not get the same result in a study of different people—for example, older adults, who may not have a habit of using cellphones so often.32. From the study we can learn that .A. people can affect each other in using mobile phonesB. using mobile phones has nothing to do with social activitiesC. men are more likely to be affected by others’ using mobile phonesD. the sound of mobile phones makes using mobile phones contagious33. If old adults are studied, the researchers .A. will find that old adults don’t like to use mobile phonesB. will find that mobile phones are harmful to healthC. will no longer like using mobile phonesD. may reach a different result34. Which can best describe the author’s attitude towards using mobile phones?A. Supportive.B. Objective.C. Indifferent.D. Opposed.35. Which can be the best title for the passage?A. How to use mobile phones correctlyB. Why college students like mobile phonesC. Relation between mobile phones and people’s hobbiesD. Something interesting about the habit of using mobile phones第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

limitations live independently in their own homes. The Robot Activity Support System,or RAS,uses sensors installed in a WSU smart home to determine where its residents are, what they are doing and when they need assistance with dailyactivities. It navigates(定位)through rooms and around obstacles to find people on its own, provides video instructions on how to do simple tasks and can even lead its owner to objects like their medication or a snack in the kitchen.“RAS combines the convenience of a mobile robot with the activity detection technology of a WSU smart home to provide assistance in the moment,as the need for help is detected,”said Bryan Minor,a postdoctoral researcher in the WSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.Currently,an estimated50percent of adults over the age of85need assistance with every day activities such as preparing meals and taking medication and the annual cost for this assistance in the US is nearly$2trillion.With the number of adults over85expected to triple by2050, researchers hope that technologies like RAS and the WSU smart home will relieve some of the financial strain on the healthcare system by making it easier for older adults to live alone.RAS is the first robot that researchers have tried to incorporate into their smart home environment. They recently published a study in the journal Cognitive Systems Research that demonstrates how RAS could make life easier for older adults struggling to live independently.“While we are still in an early stage of development, our initial results with RAS have been promising,”Minor said.“The next step in the research will be to test RAS’performance with a group of older adults to get a better idea of what prompts, video reminders and other preferences they have regarding the robot.”8.How does RAS serve elderly people?A.Through sensors.B.Through objects.C.Through a mobile robot.D.Through their daily activities.9.What can we know about RAS?A.It is the first robot used in daily life.B.Its function remains to be tested.C.It can locate people and do any task.D.It can cook for owners on its own.10.What’s Minor’s attitude toward the future of RAS?A.Doubtful.B.Negative.C.Optimistic.D.Uncertain.11.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Elderly people leave the nursing home.B.Smart Home Tests first elder-Care robot.C.RAS,the first robot to make home smart.D.Older adults have benefited from RAS.DWhat kind of amusing activities will you participate in during your life? Will you be spending your free time doing safe sports with little danger or will you always be one of the first people to try the next popular extreme activity?Scientists have been interested in finding out why some people seem to prefer dangerous activities.Although there are exceptions, researchers have found that in most cases men are less cautious than women.Men often try to impress women by proving that they are courageous andfearless, and they are more likely to take risks when women are watching them or when they are competing against other men.Research also shows that as people get older they usually behave more responsibly and avoid taking unnecessary risks. In addition, when people are in stable relationships, they seem to be less attracted to daring activities. Some people seem to be more daring than others, but there are many different types of risks and some people take one type of risk, but not another.Psychologists have identified a number of categories of risk. These include financial risks, risks related to health and safety, amusing risks and social risks.Psychologists discover that some people will take risks in one area, but not in another.Just if a person enjoys bungee(蹦极)jumping,it doesn’t mean he or she will take chances when investing(投资)money or that he will tell a joke to a group of strangers.Interestingly, research shows that women take more social risks than men. They are more likely to make career changes as they get older and to express unpopular opinions in business meetings.Yet,at the end of the day,the likelihood of particular people taking a risk depends on their personalities. In general, optimistic people are more likely to take risks because they focus on the possible positive outcomes of their actions. On the other hand, those with opposite personality are much more likely to avoid taking a chance.12.Why do men try to prove they are brave according to the research?A.To attract people’s attention.B.To take on more responsibility.C.To make favorable impressions on people.D.To develop stable relationships with others.13.What does the example of bungee jumping indicate?A.People take one type of risk but not another.B.There are more than one type of risk.C.Bungee jumping is dangerous but popular.D.Some people are more courageous than others.14.What have researchers discovered about women?A.They are willing to take social risks.B.They are always changing Jobs.C.They are good at doing business.D.They are usually more conservative than men.15.What mainly determine whether people take risks possibly?A.Their personalities.B.Their financial conditions.C.Their social relationships.D.Their expectations of outcomes.

如同学们大都写我非常喜欢他:I very like he. I like her is because she very friend.
