She is the most famous woman climber in the world because she often climbs without ropes. She climbs in many countries but most often in the French Alps near Chamonix, where she lives. She started climbing near her home in Paris when she was five. Then, at fourteen, she joined the French Alpine Club to learn more, but immediately she climbed better and more quickly than the older members of the club. She won her first competition in Italy in 1995.Three years ago she found a new route up the Dru Mountain near Chamonix. The climb took eleven days and for four days the snow was so heavy that she could not move. Last year other climbers tried to follow the new Destivelle Route, but they failed. They are going to try again this year. People always ask her about her climbing. She says, “I climb because I’m in love with mountains. I like touching the rock and reading the face of the rock. I like it a lot. I felt at home on the side of a mountain.I prepare well before I go, so I’m never worried.”Catherine chooses new mountains from books—like buying from a shopping catalogue (目录)! “I see a nice mountain and I go to climb it!” Her next mountain is in Pakistan. She is going there next month. “It’s much bigger than the Dru, so it’s goi ng to take longer to climb. An American climber, Jeff Lowe, is coming with me to help.”53.Catherine Destivetle is called “a star” because ________.A. she won a competition in 1995B. she loves rocksC. she’s a famous woman climberD. she found a new route up to the Dru Mountain54.She had great trouble finding a new route up the Dru Mountain because ________.A. she lost her wayB. the climb took 11 daysC. she needed help from an American climberD. there was heavy snow 55.On the side of a mountain she feels ________.A. worriedB. easy and happyC. like staying at homeD. well56.We can infer from the passage people often ask her “________”.A. They make too much noise in shopping malls; they drive recklessly(鲁莽地)up and down America’s main streets; they carry chips on their shoulders as big as the Sears Tower. And at least some of the time those things are true. But we shouldn’t forget that there are hard moments in the life of a teenager too.I watched such a moment not long ago at a woman’s funeral(葬礼). I didn’t expect the event to affect me. Through much of the funeral, in fact, I remained unmoved. The teenage grandson stepped forward. With his very first deep breath, every heart in that church was achingly reminded of something we had all forgotten. Softly he began: “I want to share a few values that Nana ta ught me. She never failed to see light in any situation. When our family dog would truly attack her, what would Nana say? ‘oh, what beautiful barking that dog has!’ That was Nana. ”“She was a strong woman who ofte n lived in the shadow of my grandpa, who was a successful businessman in this city. But she was the one behind the scenes who provided the strength and support for my grandpa’s career,” he said, with a voice now trembling, “That was Nana’s way.”Through a low sob, he continued, “Whenever she did anything good, you’d have to hear about it from a different person, because she was never one to show off.”Finally, in a voice breaking free of sorrow, he looked up and said, “Nana taught me courage. She put up an unbelievable fight to the end, when she died peacefully, which is how she lived her life. That was Nana’s way, and I hope I can carry on i n the same manner.”There are no hearts as sensitive as those of teenagers, because everything is happening to them for the first time. The trouble with teenagers is that they haven’t learned to be controlled. When that boy rose to speak about the woman who surely had been his truest and best friend, his honest voice dragged each of us out into the open where we could no longer hide in the calm funeral. He exposed us to the truth about this very real woman who believed in a boy who probably tried the patience of many adults. He reminded us that his grandmother was more than another dot on the chart of life and death. All over again we felt those powerful losses crossing our own hearts, and we knew that when you say good-bye to something happy, something young in yourself. And that something never really returns, and the pain never really goes away.57. In the first paragraph, the writer gave some examples to________ .A. support his idea that young people are no goodB. introduce his point of view about young peopleC. tell people every coin has its two sidesD. show young people often make mistakes58. From the boy’s speech, we know _______ .A. his grandmother had great influence on himB. they had a dog which often attacked peopleC. people had forgotten her until the boy appearedD. his grandmother was so weak that she is always living in the shadow of his grandpa59. Which of the following statements is true?A. The boy’s speech moved no one present at the funeral except the writerB. The boy’s being good at expressing himself enabled him to draw everyone’s attentionC. The boy was too sad to accept the fact that his grandmother had passed awayD. The writer didn’t expect the event would affect him60. What words can best describe grandmother’s quality?A. Weak, wild and modestB. Easygoing, noisy and considerateC. Sensitive and hard on othersD. Thanks to the assistance of tiger sharks, a huge seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks has been discovered, offering the world a tool to fight climate change.Seagrass has usually been detected by Earth-orbiting satellites that identify darker spots in the blue water. In a recent study, tiger sharks were selected as research tools due to their highly consistent associations with seagrass ecosystems. They spent 70% of their time in seagrass meadows. The team equipped eight tiger sharks with satellite labels, seven sharks with camera labels, and used a 360-degree camera on a shark for the first time ever. The data researchers collected was astonishing. The world’s largest seagrass ecosystem, measuring at least 66,900 square kilometers, has been discovered. This reflects a 41% increase from previous estimates of global seagrass. Seagrass can capture (捕获) huge quantities of carbon by photosynthesis (光合作用) and stores it on the seafloor. In terms of climate change, this is excellent news; seagrass is 35 times faster at removing carbon than tropical rainforests. When referring to global seagrass carbon stock estimates, the study indicates that seagrass in the Bahamas may contain 19.2% to 26.3% of all the carbon stored in seagrass meadows on Earth.Yet seagrass meadows are rapidly disappearing, with over 92% of meadows in theUK gone, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Scientists are collecting seeds and trying to grow new seagrass meadows through restoration projects. This new discovery offers optimism and proves the importance of the ocean for healing. The sharks led us to the seagrass ecosystem in the Bahamas, which we now know is likely the most significant blue carbon sink on the planet. What this discovery shows us is that ocean exploration and research are essential for a healthy future. The undeveloped potential of the ocean is limitless. These meadows can be protected and can be copied, offering hope for climate change around the globe.4.How was the seagrass meadow in the Bahamas Banks discovered?A.By analyzing satellites images.B.By keeping track of tiger sharks.C.By using a 360-degree camera.D.By carrying out restoration projects.5.What is the benefit of seagrass in terms of climate change?A.Seagrass provides food for tiger sharks.B.Seagrass stores large amounts of carbon.C.Seagrass absorbs wastes from the ocean.D.Seagrass supplies a habitat to sea animals.6.What is the main message conveyed in the passage?A.Tiger sharks are a tool to detect seagrass meadows.B.Seagrass meadows are disappearing at an alarming rate.C.Scientists are making progress in restoring seagrass meadows.D.Seagrass meadows have a great potential to fight climate change.7.What is the writer’s attitude towards the discovery of seagrass meadows? A.Concerned. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent.Recently I bought a book about signposts. Signposts aren’t very interesting, you’re thinking. Well, that, of course, depends on whether you happen to be lost! Ancient travelers would have been grateful for these when settlements were smaller and further apart. In winter, the ability to reach shelter for the night could bethe difference between life and death. One of the very earliest waymarks discovered is in Cumbria. Dating from Roman times, it had lain fallen until 1836, when a farmer ploughing his fields came across a sandstone shaft (碑文). There are other stone posts that have stood by roadsides for centuries. It wasn’t until 1697 that an act was passed declaring that guide-stones must be built. This applied to remote parts of the country where there might be confusion as to which path led to the nearest market town. Later, with the appearance of the Royal Mail, the number rose still further. Nowadays many of these early road signs are designated (指定) as Listed Monuments.“How times change!” Lucy, an enthusiastic walker, to whom I loaned the book, exclaimed.“I suppose now we all rely far more upon mobile phones to guide us.”“Yet they aren’t perfect. Whenever I go out, I prefer a map. I never have to worry about running out of battery.”“I’m always grateful to whoever is placing way-markers along the route,” she added, “I suppose that however sure we are, a little outside confirmation is always welcome.”Lucy is quite right there. Life itself can offer us a great many choices of path, and sometimes it isn’t easy to know if we’ve chosen the best one.Perhaps when it comes to gratitude, we should also include thanks for those people who appear in our lives when we most need them — either giving us gentle warning that we might be heading in the wrong direction, or reassurance that we are on the right track. After all, we’d be lost without them!8.What does the underlined word “these” in the first paragraph refer to? A.Signposts. B.Abilities. C.Settlements. D.Shelters. 9.What contributed to the initial spread of signposts?A.The market trade. B.The act passed in 1697.C.The discovery of the sandstone. D.The appearance of the Loyal Mail. 10.What does Lucy think of signposts?A.Popular. B.Outdated. C.Imperfect. D.Helpful.11.What does the author learn from signposts?A.To choose right tracks. B.To live a colorful life.C.To have a grateful mind. D.To offer practical choices.A study offers even more evidence of the harmful health effects of sugar. The research, published in the journal BMC Medicine, found that diets higher in free sugars –a category that includes sugar added to processed foods and sodas, as well as that found in fruit juice and syrups—raise one’s risk of heart disease and stroke. The study relied on data about the eating habits of more than 110,000 people aged 37 to 73 in the United Kingdom, whose health outcomes were then tracked over about nine years. An author of the study, Cody Watling said sugars that occur naturally in whole fruits and vegetables are not considered “free sugars” and were excluded from the analysis. The researchers estimated participants’carbohydrate(碳水化合物) intakes and then further broke that down by type of carbohydrate to focus on free sugars. Then the authors compared that to the participants’possibility of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease. The people who were found to have the highest risk of heart disease or stroke consumed about 95 grams of free sugar per day, which accounts for 18% of their daily energy intake, Watling said.“Avoiding sugar-sweetened beverages is probably the single most important thing we can do,” said Walter Willett. He added that although there are some health benefits to drinking a small glass of orange juice occasionally, its sugar content means “a glass of fruit juice is the same thing as Coke.”Cody Watling said the study demonstrates that the types of carbohydrates people choose to eat may matter more than the total amount. “What’s really important for overall general health and well-being is that we’re consuming carbohydrates that are rich in whole grains,”he said, while “minimizing the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.”12.What can we learn from the text?A.Free sugar refers to the sugar added to processed foods.B.Walting didn’t research sugars that occur naturally in whole fruits and vegetables.C.The free sugar accounts for 18%of people’s daily sugar intake.D.Walting suggested us avoiding sugar-sweetened beverages.13.What does the underlined phrase “break down” mean in paragraph 2? A.Classify. B.Destroy. C.Analyze. D.Confirm. 14.Which section of a magazine is this text taken from?A.Health and life. B.Food and Culture.C.Science and Technology. D.Medicine Science.15.What’s the purpose of the text?A.To encourage people to refuse fruit juice.B.To ask people to say no to free sugar.C.To advise people to consume more types of carbohydrates.D.To warn people against diets with higher free sugars.二、七选五Is your glass of milk half-full or half-empty? This saying is often used to test people’s outlook in a situation; do they focus on the positives(a half- full glass)well-being.Why is thinking positively good for you?Research shows that people who are optimistic and think positively tend to experience less stress and cope well when faced with life’s challenges. People who are more pessimistic may find it hard to believe that these challenges will pass. Scientists have even found that thinking positively can make you live longer. According to Professor Tali Sharot, being optimistic about the future can make you happier and more successful. 17Worrying is like a fire alarm.Everybody can worry from time to time. Worrying can help to keep you safe—if you were never worried and were overly positive about how things would turn out, you wouldn’t recognize risks.“ 18 It’s like a fire alarm,” says childpsychotherapist RachelMelville-Thomas. “The trouble is that sometimes it goes off when there isn’t a huge danger to face.” When this happens, you can feel anxious and hopeless about what lies ahead.19Optimism is shaped by your genes, which carry characteristics inherited from your parents, and by what happens to you. 20 Research has shown that it can help to draw or write an outcome that’s positive —for example, an image of you playing guitar, having passed your next grade. Imagining this can motivate you to work to achieve it, such as practicing every day after school.A.Learn to think positively.B.Sometimes worrying can do harm to our health.C.The way you think positively or negatively largely depends on your genes.D.Worrying is our brain warning us that there might be something threatening.E.However, no matter your starting point, everyone can learn to become more optimistic.F.Thinking positively, with a belief that most things will turn out well, is called optimism.G.This’s because you believe your goals are achievable, which encourages you to work towards them.三、完形填空Wildlife has been greatly threatened in the modern age. Paro Taktsang in the Paro Valley, BhutanSituated on a steep cliff in Bhutan’s Paro Valley, the “Tiger’s Nest” earned its nickname from an 18th-century tale detailing Buddhist master Padmasambhava arriving to the site on a flying tiger. The teacher noticed the students' surprise and said, “I want you to write about what you see there.” At the end of the class, the teacher took all the students' answer sheets and read the answers. All of them described the black dot. After reading all the answers, the teacher said, “Here everyone only paid attention to the black dot, but no one wrote about the white paper.”The whole class listened silently, because they were afraid to fail the exam. Then the teacher said, “Don't worry about your marks for this test. I just want you to think about your life. The white paper is like your whole life and the black dot in the centre of the paper represents(代表) problems in your daily life. Our life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care. Here are four literary landmarks you should not miss.Brasserie Lipp151 Boulevard Saint-GermainThis brasserie has long been a popular bar for creatives. In its early days it was popular among actors from a nearby theatre group called Vieux-Colombier. Later, writers came in droves. Marcellin Cazes, who took over ownership in 1918, created the literary prize Prix Cazes to reward authors not successful in literary competitions before. It has been staged annually since it began in 1935.BoquinistesRight Bank and Left Bank of the River SeineThe boquinistes are riverside booksellers who have been around since the 16th century. These booksellers began as somewhat lawless figures, disliked by the authorities as they were able to get around the censorship (审查) rules. In the mid-19th century they were granted licenses to sell books, and now they are a major sight along the Seine. They feature on France’s list of intangible (非物质的) cultural heritage.Père Lachaise8 Boulevard de MenilmontantWhen it first opened, this cemetery was not a popular burial spot. It was some way away from the city centre and it had not been blessed by the church. In a marketing ploy, the cemetery acquired the remains of some notable literary figures. In decades, the cemetery had become the final resting place of many writers, including Balzac and Gertrude Stein.Le Procope13 Rue de l’Ancienne ComédieLe Procope was opened in 1686 by Sicilian chef Francesco and is still on business. Located across the road from a theatre, it became a hotspot for actors, playwrights and poets. Voltaire was said to drink 40 cups of coffee a day while he worked at a table at the cafe.7.Who was the prize Prix Cazes intended for?A.Notable literary figures. B.Actors from Vieux-Colombier. C.Booksellers on the Seine. D.Losers in literary competition. 8.What makes Boquinistes distinctive?A.Their popularity among creatives. B.A perfect option for book shoppers. C.Being intangible cultural heritage. D.Playwrights and poets’ favour. 9.Of the four literary landmarks, which can not be a consumption spot for visitors? A.Brasserie Lipp B.BoquinistesC.Père Lachaise D.Le ProcopeIn the animal kingdom, mimics (模仿) are not rare. Stick insects pretend to be twigs. Hawk moth caterpillars resemble poisonous snakes. The examples, though, are visual. Auditory mimicry is rarer. Danilo Russo of the University of Naples Federico II thinks he has found a novel case of it, as he describes in Current Biology. Some bats, he believes, mimic angry bees in order to scare away owls that might otherwise eat them.Dr. Russo first noticed bat buzzing a few years ago. The noise struck him assimilar to the sound of some bees. He wondered whether bat buzzing was a form of mimicry which helped to scare off would-be predators. To test this idea, he and his colleagues first recorded the buzzing that captured bats made. Then, with protective clothing, they began the more dangerous task of recording the buzzing made by different bees. Computer analysis revealed that bees’and bats’ buzzing were, indeed, similar. Then the researchers recruited several owls. They put the owls, one at a time, in an enclosure with branches for them to stay on, and two boxes with holes in them. They placed a loudspeaker alongside one of the boxes and, after the birds had settled in, broadcast through it five seconds of uninterrupted bat buzzing and a similar amount of insect buzzing three times in a row for each noise. As a control, they broadcast in like manner several non-buzzing sounds made by bats.During the broadcasts and for five minutes thereafter, they videoed the owls. After analysis, the results were unequivocal. When they heard both the bat buzzing and the bee buzzing, the owls moved as far from the speakers as they could. In contrast, when the non-buzzing bat sounds were played, they crept closer.Dr. Russo believes this is the first reported case of a mammal using auditory mimicry to scare away a predator. They strongly suspect, however, that it is not unique. Anecdotes suggest several birds also make buzzing noises when their nests are disturbed. And with the result of the experiment, he therefore predicts that auditory mimicry is far more widespread than currently realized.10.What was Dr. Russo’s assumption of the study?A.Bats imitate the voice of angry bees to frighten away enemies.B.The buzzing of bats is similar to the sound of some bees.C.Auditory mimicry is rather common in the animal kingdom.D.Only some bats have the capacity of auditory mimicry.11.How did Dr. Russo test his idea?A.By consulting experts in this field. B.By referring to other scholars’analysis.C.By collecting computer data. D.By conducting series of scientificexperiments.12.What does the underlined word “unequivocal” in paragraph 5 possibly mean? A.Disappointing. B.Controversial. C.Definite. D.Uncertain. 13.What is a suitable title for the text?A.A New Trick to Scare Away Owls B.Animal Mimicry: Buzz offC.A Self-protection Behavior among Animals D.Bats: No More Victim to Owls二、七选五International Languages Week is an annual event held in New Zealand to promote language and culture from around the world. She is a rock climber and a big star in France and Italy. She is the most famous woman climber in the world because she often climbs without ropes. She climbsin many countries but most often in the French Alps near Chamonix, where she lives. She started climbing near her home in Paris when she was five. Then, at fourteen, she joined the French Alpine Club to learn more, but immediately she climbed better and more quickly than the older members of the club. She won her first competitionin Italy in 1995.Three years ago she found a new route up the Dru Mountain near Chamonix. The climb took eleven days and for four days the snow was so heavy that she could not move. Last year other climbers tried to follow the new Destivelle Route, but they failed. They are going to try again this year.People always ask her about her climbing. She says, “I climb because I’m in love with mountains. I like touching the rock and reading the face of the rock. I likeit a lot. I felt at home on the side of a mountain. I prepare well before I go, so I’m never worried.”Catherine chooses new mountains from books—like buying from a shopping catalogue (目录)! “I see a nice mountain and I go to climb it!” Her next mountain is in Pakistan. She is going there next month. “It’s much bigger than the Dru, so it’s going to take longer to climb. An American climber, Jeff Lowe, is coming with me to help.” 53.Catherine Destivetle is called “a star” because ________.A. she won a competition in 1995B. she loves rocksC. she’s a famous woman climberD. she found a new route up to the Dru Mountain54.She had great trouble finding a new route up the Dru Mountain because ________.A. she lost her wayB. the climb took 11 daysC. she needed help from an American climberD. there was heavy snow55.On the side of a mountain she feels ________.A. worriedB. easy and happyC. like staying at homeD. well56.We can infer from the passage people often ask her “________”.A. Why do you like climbing?B. Are you in love with an American climber?C. Do you enjoy reading books on mountains?D. What do you do before you go climbing?CPeople say teenagers are no good. They make too much noise in shopping malls; they drive recklessly(鲁莽地)up and down America’s main streets; they carry ch ips on their shoulders as big as the Sears Tower. Softly he began: “I want to share a few values that Nana taught me. She never failed to see light in any situation. When our family dog would truly attack her, what would Nana say? ‘oh, what beautiful barking that dog has!’ That was Nana. ”“She was a strong woman who often lived in the shadow of my grandpa, who was a successful businessman in this city. But she was the one behind the scenes who provided the strength and support for my grandpa’s career,” he said, with a voice now trembling, “That was Nana’s way.”Th rough a low sob, he continued, “Whenever she did anything good, you’d have to hear about it from a different person, because she was never one to show off.”Finally, in a voice breaking free of sorrow, he looked up and said, “Nana taught me courage. She put up an unbelievable fight to the end, when she died peacefully, which is how she lived her life. That was Nana’s way, and I hope I can carry on in the same manner.”There are no hearts as sensitive as those of teenagers, because everything is happening to them for the first time. The boy’s being good at expressing himself enabled him to draw everyone’sattentionC. Patient, optimistic, strong and helpful.61. The passage tells the readers_______ .A. facing certain bitter facts help young people to growB. young people have to control themselvesC. the adults should learn from the youngD. the adults should teach the young how to be brave第二节:任务型阅读(共4小题,满分8分)阅读下列材料,从所给的五个选项(A、B、C、D、E)中,选出符合各小题要求的最佳选项。
