Initially introduced by John von Neumann and Stanislaw Ulam in the 1940s, CA has gained significant attention due to its ability to generate complex and emergent behaviors from simple local rules.1.2 Objective - 目标The objective of this comprehensive review is to provide an overview of the fundamental concepts, applications, and current research trends in CA. The review aims to serve as a helpful resource for researchers and practitioners in understanding the potential of CA in simulating and analyzing complex systems. 2. Fundamental Concepts - 基础概念2.1 Cellular Structure - 细胞结构A cellular automaton consists of a grid of cells, each of which can have a certain state. The state of a cell can be represented by a finite set of values, such as "on/off" or "1/0". The grid is often visualized as a two-dimensional lattice, although CA can also be defined in higher dimensions.2.2 Neighbourhood - 邻域In a CA, each cell is influenced by its neighboring cells. The neighborhood of a cell is defined as the set of cells that directly influence its state. The neighborhood can be defined in various ways, such as the Moore neighborhood or the von Neumann neighborhood.2.3 Transition Rules - 转换规则The behavior of a CA is determined by transition rules, which specify how the state of a cell changes based on the states of its neighbors. The transition rules can be deterministic, where the next state is uniquely determined, or probabilistic, where the next state is determined by a probability distribution.2.4 Time - 时间CA operate in discrete time steps, where each time step corresponds to an update of the cell states based on the transition rules. The behavior of CA has been found to exhibit rich and often unpredictable patterns, leading to connections with chaos theory and fractal geometry.4. 城镇地下空间资源调查监测体系研究
地表自然资源调查监测体系和路径已有较多探索和应用,然而,在地下空间资源方面,特别是对城镇地区的复杂地下空间与要素,尚未形成顶层衔接、全面完善的地下空间资源调查监测体系。
以城镇地下空间资源为切口,完善、细化、衔接自然资源统一调查监测体系顶层框架,运用遥感、测绘地理信息、大数据、人工智能等技术,加强对地下空间资源的全空间、全要素、全过程调查监测,是自然资源调查监测重要研究课题之一[1-5]。
本文以宁波市为例,基于全空间全要素自然资源调查监测体系顶层设计,探索了城镇地下空间资源调查监测体系构建的总体思路、技术框架和多跨协同机制。
1城镇地下空间资源开发利用现状与需求1.1城镇地下空间资源开发利用现状我国地下空间开发利用规模发展呈快速增长态势,跻身全球地下空间开发利用大国行列[6]。
2020年,我国城镇地下空间累计建设24亿m 2[7]。
我国城镇地下空间利用的深度已达地表以下50m ,局部特大工程深入地表以下70m [8]。
北京、上海等一线城市,地下空间开发规模和发展速度领先,开发利用深度地表30m 以内空间趋于饱和,并向地表30m 以下的深层次发展;南京、武汉、青岛、郑州等新一线城市地下空收稿日期:2022-11-08。

面向光储充一体化社区的有序充电策略研究

首先,将降低社区负荷峰谷差作为电网层优化目标,将减少用户充电费用作为用户层优化目标,完成双层多目标有序充电模型的设计。
其次,设计基于云边协同的调度架构,将电网层优化模型部署在云端侧,用户层优化模型部署在边缘侧。
该架构能有效利用边缘侧的计算资源,缓解云端侧面对电动汽车大规模接入时的计算压力。
最后,以5种充电场景为例进行算例分析。
实验表明,与无序充电相比,所提策略能够使社区负荷峰谷差减少40.47%,充电均价减少52.63%。
与单层有序充电策略相比,该策略综合效果优势明显,在保障配电网安全稳定运行的同时,兼顾电动汽车用户的经济利益。

Thus an orderly charging strategy for a photovoltaic-storage-charging integrated community is proposed. First, the reduction of peak valley difference of community load is taken as the optimization goal of the power grid layer, and the reduction of user charging costs is taken as the optimization goal of the user layer to complete the design of a double-layer multi-objective orderly charging model. Secondly, a scheduling architecture based on cloud edge collaboration is designed, deploying the power grid layer optimization model on the cloud side and the user layer optimization model on the edge side.This architecture effectively uses the computing resources on the edge side and alleviates the computational pressure on the cloud side for large-scale access to electric vehicles. Finally, five charging scenarios are used as examples for simulation analysis.The experiment shows that compared to disorderly charging, the strategy proposed can reduce the peak valley difference of community load by 40.47% and the average charging price by 52.63%. 文中针对动态场景中车辆计算资源共享问题,提出了车栽云计算(V C C)系统的最优计算资源分配方案,以实现任务卸载能力的提升。
该方案将V C C系统中任务卸载的收入(节省的功耗、处理时间和转移成本的量化值)和开销(预期的任务处理开销)的差值作为系统奖励值,将最优分配问题转化为求解长期预期奖励的最大值问题。
进一步将问题表述为无限时域半马尔可夫决策过程 (SM D P),定义和分析了状态集、动作集、奖励模型以及转移概率分布,并考虑忙碌(B u sy)车辆离开的情况,称为B-S M D P的解决方案。
最后,仿真结果表明,与模拟退火算法(S A)和贪婪算法(G A)相比,B-S M D P方案有较明显的性能提升。

Experience suggests there's no "one size fits all" approach because applications implemented on top of Java messaging systems can have different requirements. For some, the main concern might be portability, while for others it might be high bandwidth and low latency. Moreover, portability and high performance are often contradictory requirements. You can achieve highperformance by using specialized communication hardware but only at the cost of compromising the portability Java offers. Keeping both in mind, the key issue isn't to debate the JNI versus pure Java approaches, but to provide a flexible mechanism for applications to swap between communication protocols.To address this issue, we have implemented MPJ Express based on the Message Passing in Java (MPJ) API.1 MPJE follows a layered architecture that uses device drivers, which are analogous to Unix device drivers. The ability to swap devices at runtime helps mitigate the applications' contradictory requirements. In addition, we're implementing a runtime system that bootstraps MPJE processes over a collection of machines connected by a network. Though the runtime system isn't part of the MPI specifications, it's essential to spawn and manage MPJE processes across various platforms.MPJE's design is layered to allow incremental development and provide the capability to update and swap layers in or out as needed. Figure 1 shows a layered view of the messaging system. The high and base levels rely on the MPJ device2 and xdev level for actual communications and interaction with the underlying networking hardware. One device provides JNI wrappers to the native MPI implementations, and the other (xdev) provides access to Java sockets, shared memory, or specialized communication libraries. The wrapper implementation doesn't need xdev, because the native MPI is responsible for selecting and switching between different communication protocols. Figure 1 also shows three implementations of xdev: smpdev, the shared memory device; niodev, an implementation of xdev using the Java New I/O package; and gmdev, an implementation of xdev using JNI to interact with the Myrinet communications library.Figure 1. Dickens, University of MaineWhat constitutes an intelligent, adaptive, highly efficient communication service for grid computing? An intelligent service can accurately assess the end-to-end system's state to determine how (and whether) to modify the data transfer's behavior. An intelligent controller could, for example, respond more aggressively to a network-related loss than to a loss caused by events outside the network domain. An adaptive communication service can either change its execution environment or adapt its behavior in response to changes in that environment. An efficient communication service can exploit the underlying network bandwidth when system conditions permit. It can also fairly share network resources in response to observed (or predicted) network contention.A necessary milestone on the path to such next-generation communication services is the development of a classification mechanism that can distinguish between various data-loss causes in cluster or Grid environments. We're developing such a mechanism based on packet-loss signatures, which show the distribution (or pattern) of packets that successfully traversed the end-to-end transmission path versus those that did not. These signatures are essentially largeselective-acknowledgment packets that the data receiver collects and, upon request, delivers to the data sender. We refer to them as packet-loss signatures because a growing set of experimental results shows that different data-loss causes have different signatures.1,2 The question then is how to quantify the differences between packet-loss signatures so that a classification mechanism can identify them.Our approach is to treat packet-loss signatures as time-series data and to apply techniques from symbolic dynamics to learn about the time series' dynamical structure. We quantify the structure in the sequence based on its complexity. We've learned that the complexity measures of packet-loss signatures have different statistical properties when the cause of such loss lies inside rather than outside the network domain. In fact, these statistical properties are different enough to let us construct, using Bayesian statistics, rigorous hypothesis tests regarding the cause of data loss.3 We're currently developing the infrastructure required to perform such hypothesis testing in real time.Next, we plan to develop and evaluate a set of responses tailored to particular data-loss causes. Grid registries let service providers advertise their services, so users can use these registries to dynamically find available resources. In particular, services aren't the only entities that need to be classified for example, we would also want to define classifications for individual operations or their argument types. Second, only service operators can provide information about services, and in a large and disparate environment, it's impossible for operators to foresee all the information that users might use to find resources. Third, UDDI uses authentication techniques for security that aren't particularly suited for the large-scale nature of Grid systems.To address these problems, we're developing a registry called Grimoires() for the myGrid project () and the Open Middleware Infrastructure Institute (OMII, ) Grid software release. Figure 2 shows our registry's architecture, which we've implemented as a Web service. It has two major interfaces UDDI and metadata. Grimoires supports multiple search patterns. It ranges from simple searches that return a list of metadata attached to the specified entity to morecomplex searches that return entities that match a certain criteria.l Signature-based authentication. UDDI uses a username and password credentialscheme. However, Grid environments typically use certificate-based authentication.OMII provides an implementation of SOAP message signing and verification thatconforms to Web Services security standards. By deploying Grimoires in the OMIIcontainer, the registry can authenticate users using X509 certificates. 浅析目前苏里格气田及时更新地磁模型的必要性摘要:本文中,主要论述了目前苏里格气田中采用地磁模型已多年未得到及时更新,且在定向井轨迹计算中一直未考虑子午线收敛角校正,在随着苏里格气田水平井施工常规化、密集化,已逐渐显现出其对井眼轨迹的不利影响,如果不能得到足够重视,今后会给相应的施工带来一定的困难。
文中介绍了地磁模型的基本概念、子午线收敛角的概念、定义和性质,介绍了子午线收敛角的计算方法,最后介绍了在定向井轨迹计算中进行子午线收敛角校正的方法。
希望苏里格气田尽快更新目前地磁模型。
关键词:水平井;国际地磁参考场;子午线收敛角;方位参照系转换;随着近年钻井技术的进步,苏里格气田所施工水平井已逐渐常规化、密集化,且水平位移在逐年增加,很多水平井设计水平段1500m左右,且随着布井密度增加,这样目前苏里格所采用的地磁模型已明显不能满足施工要求。
本文的目的在于通过分析及实例,使得苏里格气田施工技术人员能尽早意识到目前所用的地磁模型对井眼轨迹不利影响,及时对模型进行更新,以免造成今后不必要的损失。
一、地磁模型基本介绍1、地磁模型的基本概念地磁模型包括全球的和局部地区的两种。
全球地磁场模型就是到目前为止国际地磁学与高空大气物理学协会(IAGA)的有关小组每五年给出一个国际地磁参考场” (International Geomagnetic Reference Field,IGRF)。
除此之外,为了适应导航的需求,美国国家地球物理数据中心(NGDC)和英国地质调查所(BGS)共同提出世界地磁模型(World Magnetic Model,WMM),其主要目的在于实现空间和海洋磁自主导航。
90%的地球主磁场可以用国际地磁参考模型(IGRF)和世界地磁模型(WMM)来描述。
局部磁场模型是一些国家研制的自己地区的地磁场模型。
由于国际地磁参考场(IGRF)的误差由100多nT(有的地方达200多nT),还不能满足某些方面的需要,很多国家就开始研究自己地区的地磁场模型。

To successfully understand this vertical structure, the model must have an appropriate vertical coordinate to lead to better resolution and thus better forecasts. Numerical Weather Prediction models produce these forecasts by computing the average over these coordinate surfaces, rather than on the surface itself. At this point, one familiar with forecasting models might ask: "Why not use pressure and height surfaces, as they are used in most maps anyway?" The reason that these surfaces are not used in Numerical Weather Prediction is because they cause much confusion at the ground. Therefore, other surfaces have been developed and used in the vertical. Some of the most popular surfaces used in many of the current models are the Sigma, Eta, and Theta surfaces(UCAR, 2000). These will be the surfaces we will focus our attention to in this webpage, describing each vertical coordinate system, giving examples of models from coordinate systems, and making an evaluation of the coordinate types.Description of Vertical Coordinate SystemsSigma CoordinateThe sigma coordinate system defines the base at the model's ground level. The surfaces in the sigma coordinate system follow the model terrain and are steeply sloped in the regions where terrain itself is steeply sloped. the sigma coordinate system defines the vertical position of a point in the atmosphere as a ratio of the pressure difference between that point and the top of the domain to that of the pressure difference between a fundamental base below the point and the top of the domain.Because it is pressure based and normalized, it is easy to mathematically cast governing equations of the atmosphere into a relatively simple form.Advantges1) The sigma coordinate system conforms to natural terrain. This allows for good depiction of continous fields, such as temperature advection and winds, in areaswhere terrain varies widely but smoothly.2) It lends itself to increasing vertical resolution near the ground. This allows the model to better define boundary-layer processes, such as diurnal heating, low-level winds, turbulence, low-level moisture, and static stability.3) Eliminates the problem of vertical coordinate systems intersecting the ground, unlike height or isentropic coordinates.Limitations1) The model wind forecast depend upon accurate calculations of the pressure gradient force (PGF). This is easly calculated in pressure coordinates when theheight is known. Yet, when sigma surfaces slope, the PGF must be expanded to include the effects of the slope. This introduces errors because the lapse ratemust be approximated at points that lie in between the pressure surfaces where height is observed.2) Sigma models have a difficult time dealing with weather events on the lee-side of mountain ranges (i.e. cold-air damming, lee-side cyclogenesis).3) Because of the smoothing required in the mountain ranges along coastlines, land points can be forced to extend beyond the true coastline.Examples of Sigma Models or VarientsAviation/Medium Range Forecast (AVN/MRF) ModelIt has a vertical domain that runs from the surface to about 2.0 hPa. For a surface pressure of 1000 hPa, the lowest level is at about 996 hPa.The vertical domain is represented by a sigma coordinate and a Lorenz grid.It uses a quadratic conserving finite difference scheme.The resolution is divided into 42 unequally spaced sigma levels, where for a surface pressure of 1000 hPa, twelve levels are below 800 hPa, twenty levelsbetween 800hpa and 100hpa, and ten are above 100 hPa. (COMET)As of 9 January, 2001, The GSM had the following settings (GMBOB):Spectral triangular 170 (T170) Horizontal Resolution.The Gaussian grid of 512x256, roughly equivalent to 0.7x0.7 degree latitude/longitude.A Vertical Representation in Sigma coordinates on a Lorenz grid with a Quadratic conserving finite difference scheme by Arakawa and Minz (1974).Nested Grid Model (NGM):The terrain following system simplifies the treatment of processes at the bottom of the model atmosphere.The same vertical structure of 16 layers is carried throughout the analysis, initialization, and forecast components of the NGM to eliminate inconsistenciesthat may arise through vertical interpolation.The thickness of the layers in the NGM change smoothly with height, with greatest resolution near the bottom of the atmosphere, with the bottom layer being35 millibars thick when the surface pressure is 1000 millibars, and 17.5 millibars thick when the surface pressure is 500 millibars.The pressure thickness of the layers increase with height to a maximum in layer-10 (near 450 mb) of 75 mb when the surface is 1000 mb.The high resolution near the surface in the NGM is desirable for capturing the behavior of boundary layer processes in the NGM analysis and forecast(Hoke,James E. ; 325).European Center Medium Range Weather Forecasting Model (ECMWF):The European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasting model uses 31 levels between the earth's surface and 30 km.With a horizontal resolution of 60 km, the model forecasts at 4,154,868ATMO689/Lecture8/ points in the upper air.With this resolution, it can produce forecasts for near surface weather parameters such as local winds and temperature (Woods 1998).Example of Sigma Coordinate ModelETA Coordinate ModelThe fundamental base in the eta system is not at the ground surface, but instead is at mean sea level. The eta coordinate system has surfaces that remain relatively horizontal at all times. At the same time, it retains the mathematical advantages of the pressure based system that does not intersect the ground. It does this by allowing the bottom atmospheric layer to be represented within each grid box as a flat "step". The eta coordinate system defines the vertical position of a point in the atmosphere as a ratio of the pressure difference between that point and the top of the domain to that of the pressure difference between a fundamental base below the point and the top of the domain. The ETA coordinate system varys from one at the base to zero at the top of the domain. Because it is pressure based and normalized, it is easy to mathematically cast governing equations of the atmosphere into a relatively simple form.Advantges1) Eta models do not need to perform the vertical interpolations that are necessary to calculate the PGF in sigma models (Mesinger and Janji 1985). This reducesthe error in PGF calculation and improves the forecast of wind and temperature and moisture changes in areas of steeply sloping terrain.2) Although the numerical formulation near the surface is more complex, the low-level convergence in areas of steep terrain are far more representative of realatmospheric conditions than in the simpler formulations in sigma models (Black 1994). The improved forecasts of low-level convergence result in betterprecipitation forecasts in these areas. The improved predictable flow detail compared to a comparable sigma model more than compensates for the slightlyincreased computer run time.3) Compared with sigma models, eta models can often improve forecasts of cold air outbreaks, damming events, and leeside cyclogenesis For example, in cold-airdamming events, the inversion in the real atmosphere above the cold air mass on the east side of a mountain are preserved almost exactly in an eta model.Limitations1) The step nature of the eta coordinate makes it difficult to retain detailed vertical structure in the boundary layer over the entire model domain, particularly overelevated terrain.2) Eta models do not accurately depict gradually sloping terrain. Since all terrain is represented in discrete steps, gradual slopes that extend over large distancescan be concentrated within as few as one step. This unrealistic compression of the slope into a small area can be compensated, in part, by increasing the vertical and/or horizontal resolution.3) Eta models have difficulty predicting extreme downslope wind events.An example of ETA Step ModelsETA ModelThis model uses 50 vertical levels (NCEP 2000).The eta coordinate was used in order to remove the large errors which are known to occur when computing the horizontal pressure gradient force, as well asthe advection and horizontal diffusion along a steeply sloped coordinate surface, such as the sigma surfaces in the NGM model (Mesinger, 1984).This coordinate system makes the eta surfaces quasi-horizontal everywhere as opposed to sigma surfaces which can be steeply sloped(Black, 1994).This model is often being updated, and changes are made quite frequently on its resolution.Example of Cold-Air DammingTheta Coordinate Model SystemAdvantges1) Potential vorticity is better conserved, and precipitation spin-up in short-range forecasts is reduced.2) 3-D advection becomes essentially 2-D in theta coordinates.3) The theta coordinate allows for more vertical resolution in the vicinity of baroclinic regions like fronts and near the tropopause, this allows more accuratedepictions of significant horizontal and vertical wind shears and het streaks.4) Vertical motion through isentropic surfaces is caused almost exclusively by diabatic heating. Vertical motion isentropic models is a result of two processes:adiabatic motion and diabatic forcing. Adiabatic vertical motions are included within the horizontal component of the isentropic forecast equations. By having the total vertical motion related only to these adiabatic components, there is afar more direct cause and effect relationship in interpreting the mdel forecast fields.5) Isentropic coordinate models conserve important dynamical quantities such as ptential vorticity.Limitations1) A MAJOR limitation of the theta coordinate system occurs in the boundary layer, where the flow can be strongly non-adiabatic.2) Isentropic surfaces intersect the ground so they cannot be located at all times during the day. That's why sigma coordinates are used in the boundary layer. Thisallows at least five layers of the model to follow surface terrain.3) Isentropic coordinates may not exhibit monotonic behavior with height in the boundary layer. If superadiabatic layers develop in the boundary layer due todiurnal heating, isentropic surfaces then appear more than once in the vertical, about a point. This can't be allowed in the models vertical coordinate system, and could severely limit the model's ability to predict many weather advents.4) Vertical resolution in nearby adiabatic layer is coarse. The same quality that leads to enhanced resolutions in baroclinic zones conversely means that largeadiabatic regions will have decreased vertical resolutions when theta coordinates are used. This leads to problems in adequately resolving the vertical mixing in these regions.Explenation of Theta SystemSince the flow in the free atmosphere is mostly isentropic, potential temperature is useful as a vertical coordinate system. Since non-adiabatic processesdomintate in the boundary layer and potential temperature intersects the earth's surface, theta coordinates are not used alone in any of the models. Instead they do work very well as a hydrid system, since they handle motions about the boundary layer very-well.The RUC-2 model uses a hybrid system. Theta coordinates are used aloft in the RUC-2 model. It provides improved resolution where there are large temperatures gradients. Much of the interesting weather takes place in this area. RUC-2 is used for short-range weather forecasting or "now casting".Example of Isentropic ModelHybrid Coordinate ModelsThe hybrid coordinate sytem is a combination of both a theta coordinate system (above the boundary layer) and a sgima coordinate system (below the boundary layer).Theta coordinates are isentropic coordinates that are layered throughout the atmosphere. The theta surfaces are not used near the ground due to the fact that they are not terrain following coordinates. Instead, the sigma coordinates are used near the surface of the earth.Advantges1) This system retains the advantages of isentropic models in the free atmosphere, including better precipitation starting times for isentropic upglide than in sigma-coordinate models.2) This system eliminates the problem of isentropic surfaces intersecting the ground.3) This system represents surface heating and dynamical mixing in the boundary layer well.4) The system allows good surface physics interactions, including surface evaporation and treatment of snow cover.Limitations1) Hybrid isentopic-sigma models no longer preserve adiabatic flow in the boundary layer as easily as pure isentropic models.2) The depth of the sigma layers does not match the true depth of the PBL, so processes near the PBL/free atmosphere interface may not be depicted with the bestcoordinate.3) It can be difficult to blend coordinate types at their interfaces.An Example of the Hybride Coordinate SystemRapid Update Cycle (RUC-2)The RUC-2 has 40 vertical levels.The minimum potential temperature spacing occurs through much of the tropopause and is 2K.The top level is 450K.It continues to use a generalized vertical coordinate configured as a hybrid isentropic-sigma coordinate in both the analysis and model.This coordinate has proven to be very advantageous in providing sharper resolution near fronts and the tropopause. (e.g., Benjamin 1989, Johnson et al.1993, Zapotocny et al. 1994).The prespecified pressure spacing in RUC-2, starting from the ground is 2, 5, 8, and 10 mb, followed by as many 15-mb layers as are needed. This terrain-following spacing compacts somewhat as the terrain elevation increases. This provides excellent resolution of the boundary layer in all locations, includingover higher terrain.The RUC-2 has an explicit level actually at the surface; no extrapolation from higher levels is necessary to diagnose values at the surface.Figure 4: Hybrid Coordinate System(See Description Below)[The above picture is a sample cross section of RUC-2 native levels. This is the same picture used above as an example of a hybrid coordinate system. The cross section is for a 12-h forecast valid at 1200 UTC 30 November 1995.The typical RUC-2 resolution near fronts is apparent in this figure,ATMO689/Lecture8/ as well as the tendency for more terrain-following levels to "pile up" in warmer regions (the eastern part of the cross section, in this case).]Critical Evaluation of Coordinate TypesA) Sigma and Eta Coordinates1) The sigma and eta coordinates are better for uses near the ground since they are terrain-following coordinates compared to the theta coordinate, which is not.2) The sigma and eta coordinates have mathematical advantages of casting the governing equations of the atmosphere into a relatively simple form.3) Both the sigma and eta coordinates also guarantee a certain vertical resolution even when the stratification is weak.4) All of the adiabatic component of the vertical motion on the isentropic surfaces is captured in flow along the 2-D surfaces. Vertical advection, which usually has somewhat more truncation error than horizontal advection, does much less "work" in isentropic/sigma hybrid models than in quasi-horizontal coordinate models. This characteristic results in improved moisture transport and very little precipitation spin-up problem in the first few hours of the forecast.5) Both of these coordinate systems tend to be better for long range forecasting for large areas.B) Theta Coordinates1) Theta coordinates make better use of observations in objective analysis. obvious,that the base of grid technology is the concept of resource sharing.The types of resources shared in a grid infrastructure could be desktop systems,clusters,storage devices and large data-sets.The question is what happens when a remote user requests access to a remote resource either to execute a job or to have access in the resource’s data?A 1569-190X/$-see front matter request.There-fore,one of the main capabilities a grid infrastructure needs to support is a Resource Discovery mechanism[3].Discovering a specific resource in traditional computing environments is relatively easy because the number of shared resources is small and all resources are under central control.In a grid environment,there are certain factors that make the resource discovery problem difficult to solve.These factors are:the huge number of resources,distributed ownership, heterogeneity of resources,resource failure,and resource evolution(upgrades changing a resource’s technical characteris-tics).An efficient Resource Discovery mechanism should take into consideration the above factors.Another important aspect in a grid infrastructure is the dynamicity of such a system.Resources,shared in a grid,exist in two states:online and offline.Not all resources are permanently online in a grid.A resource’s state could change during time from online to offline and backwards.The main reason that this happens is the distributed ownership of grid resources.An owner may establish a policy on a workstation that states that a foreign job can be run on a machine only at certain periods of time.Another reason for a resource to exit the grid,therefore get in an offline state,is due to heavy local load.An owner may establish a policy on a workstation that states that a foreign job can be run on a machine when the local load is under a certain limit.When the local load reaches that limit,a resource must exit the grid and execute local jobs only.Finally,the huge number of resources in a grid increases the probabilities of resource failures.Resource failures are unpredictable and common due to hardware faults,software faults or power outages.Taken into consideration the dynamicity that characterizes a grid system,we propose a new framework for resource dis-covery based on Routing Tables,called Re-routing Tables.Based on a large number of tests,we investigate the effectiveness of the Re-routing Tables mechanism which can guaranteefinding the appropriate resource in a dynamical grid environment, where resources could disconnect from the grid,and therefore get in an offline state.This paper is organized as follows:Section2presents related work on resource discovery in a grid environment.Section3 describes the Resource Discovery mechanism based on Routing Tables.Section4describes our deployed framework of the Re-routing Tables mechanism.Section5presents experiments and testing of the mechanism.2.Related workAttempting to solve the Grid Resource Discovery problem,several mechanisms and frameworks have been proposed dur-ing the past years.In this section,we present some popular approaches for the Grid Resource Discovery problem mentioned in bibliography.One of the popular approaches for the Grid Resource Discovery problem is the so called matchmaking one[4].The match-making framework was designed to solve real problems encountered in the deployment of Condor,a high throughput com-puting system.In bibliography,several other research papers make use of the matchmaking framework trying to add new aspects in the existing mechanism[5,12,15,16].According to this framework,all entities comprising a grid system are di-vided into two categories:requestors,and providers.All entities advertise their characteristics and requirements in classified advertisements.A matchmaking service is responsible offinding a match between the advertisements and informing the rel-evant entities of the match.The matched entities connect and cooperate for the service’s execution.In recent years,significant interest has focused on two systems:grids and peer-to-peer systems.Both systems share the same main idea.They are both resource-sharing environments.Their difference is that they have followed different evolu-tionary paths.grid systems are mainly used in complex scientific applications,while peer-to-peer systems are developed around mainstream services such asfile-sharing.Research papers,concerning thatfield,suggest the use of existing protocols developed for peer-to-peer systems into grid systems[6,7,14,18,21,27].Another notable approach to the Resource Discovery problem is the Semantic Communities one[8,11,13,17,19].Motiva-tion behind the Semantic Communities approach is that grid communities and human communities consist of members that are engaged in sharing and communication.Main target in this approach is to create grid communities based on similar-interests policies allowing community nodes to learn of each other without relying on a central meeting point.In addition to approaches that have been proposed in the past,many research papers suggest combinations of existing approaches.In bibliography,existing approaches,such as the matchmaking one,are combined with Semantic Web concepts. Using ontologies,asymmetric descriptions of resources and requests,and background knowledge combined with matchmak-ing rules attempt to solve the Resource Discovery problem[9,20,22].The Routing Tables mechanism,previously examined in[10],suggests a way of directing resource requests in a grid net-work.Based on a grid-router model,each router maintains Routing Tables in order to direct requests for certain resources in a grid system.In this paper,we extend the framework,creating the Re-routing Tables mechanism in a de-centralized man-ner,focusing on its effectiveness in a dynamical grid,where resources are not permanently online.3.Grid Resource Discovery based on Routing TablesBefore we start examining the Re-routing Tables mechanism,we have to demonstrate the Routing Tables mechanism in a static grid environment using the grid-router model.This model suggests that a grid system can be seen as an environment comprised by routers and resources.Each router is in charge of its local resources.Fig.1demonstrates a grid system com-prised by12routers,where each router controls a specific number of resources,3–5.We assume that there are20differenttypes of resources in the network.Each resource has unique technical characteristics,and therefore can satisfy a specific re-quest.The edges shown in Fig.1indicate a direct connection between the routers.For example,Router 1is directly con-nected to Router 2,Router 6,and Router 11and is in charge of Resource 1,Resource 3,and Resource 16.Assuming that at a point of time a request for a specific resource is created in one of the routers in the grid system,an effi-cient Resource Discovery mechanism should be able to find that specific resource in the network.In the simplest case,the rou-ter checks if one of its local resources meets the request’s requirements.If not,the router should forward the request to its neighbors randomly.This random forwarding could be sufficient in a small network,but would not satisfy a large network’s needs.The Routing Tables mechanism is used in order to forward the requests in the grid network in a non-random way.Each router in the grid network maintains a Routing Table with size equal to the number of different resources in the network.Each data element in that table is the minimum distance measured in hops from that router to all the resources available in the network (Fig.2presents such a table).Note that each edge in Fig.1stands for 1hop including the edges between a router and its localresources.Fig.1.Demonstration of a grid system based on the grid-router’sapproach.Fig.2.An example of a Routing Table available in a network router.706K.I.Karaoglanoglou,H.D.Karatza /Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory 16(2008)704–720K.I.Karaoglanoglou,H.D.Karatza/Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory16(2008)704–720707 Since the Routing Tables maintain information about the minimum distances from each router to all the resources in the network,it is more than obvious that a shortest distance algorithm plays a central role in the Routing Tables mechanism.We have deployed such an algorithm for our simulation needs and we present it later in the paper(Algorithm1).It is also clear that the Routing Tables mechanism requires a heavy computational initialization phase.In this phase,computations are made in order to discover the minimum distances from all routers to all the different resources in the system.Then the grid system is ready to satisfy resource requests based on the information included in the Tables.Fig.3is a closer view of Fig.1.Let’s examine the case when a request for Resource18is created in Router11.First,Router 11checks if the requested resource exists locally.Router11is in charge of Resources10,11,and17.Since the requested resource does not exist locally in Router11,the request has to be forwarded to Router’s11neighbors.Router11connects directly to Router1and Router6.After checking the Routing Tables of both routers(Figs.4and5),it is obvious that the re-quest will be forwarded to Router1based on the minimum distance information included in Router’s1Routing Table.The distance from Router1to Resource18is equal to2hops.On the contrary the distance from Router6to Resource18is3hops. As a result,the request is forwarded to Router1.Then the request is forwarded to Router2,where the requested Resource18 exists locally.All resource requests created in the network are dealt the same way.First,the router that requests a specific resource checks its local resources.If the resource is not found,the request is forwarded in the network based on the information in-cluded in the Routing Tables.It is guaranteed that the request will discover the resource in the minimum distance of hops since all the data elements inside the Routing Tables are provided by a minimum distance algorithm.As mentioned before,the Routing Tables mechanism assumes that the grid system is static,meaning that all resources are permanently online and cannot get in an offline state.An offline resource situation could result to unwanted side effects and system failures.We have deployed and tested a new framework for the Routing Tables mechanism called Re-routing Tables, which can manage effectively offline resource events.The Re-routing Tables mechanism is presented in the following section.Algorithm1A Minimum Distances Algorithm computing the shortest distances from all routers to Tablesend_ifend_doend_doend_do4.Re-routing Tables4.1.Grid Resource Discovery based on Re-routing TablesWe have deployed a framework for Resource Discovery in a Dynamical grid,taken into consideration the fact that a grid system is characterized by resources that can get in an offline state at any time.An effective Grid Resource Discovery mech-anism should be able to overcome the dynamicity of such a system.The proposed mechanism called Re-routing Tables is based on the Routing Tables mechanism analyzed in previous section.The Re-routing Tables mechanism can effectively deal with offline resource events which are bound to happen in a grid system.In Fig.7,two alternative routes are discovered due to an offline resource event in Router2.A request for Resource8is created in Router11.Based on the information in the Routing Tables(shown in Fig.6)the request is forwarded to Router 1and then the request is forwarded to Router2,where Resource8exists locally.The problem is that Resource8in Router 2is currently offline and cannot satisfy the request.Due to that offline event,the request has to discover an alternative Resource8somewhere in the system so that the re-quest is satisfied.Such a resource type already exists in the system twice.Router9and Router5control Resource8locally.Calling the Minimum Distances Algorithm we compute the new minimum distance from Router 2to Resource 8(4hops).The distances of Resource 8from Router 2are 4hops for both Routers 5and 9.The problem is that there are still routers in the network who still think that Resource 8is online in Router 2and they will keep forwarding requests for that specific resource to Router 2.Even though an alternative resource exists in the system,routers do not have the new information in their Rout-ing Tables.Note that request for Resource 8in Router 11is yet to be satisfied.The next step is to update the Routing Tables in order to achieve the correct re-routing of the request in the network.We propose two solutions for the problem of updating the Routing Tables,and therefore creating the Re-routing Tables.4.1.1.Solution 1When the fact that a resource exited the grid is established,we can call the Minimum Distances Algorithm for all routers in the network in order to update the information in the Routing Tables regarding the offline resource.Of course this solution is computationally intensive especially in cases of large networks.Solution 2can reduce effectively the computational cost.4.1.2.Solution 2Examining the grid system in Fig.7,it is obvious that not all routers forward requests for Resource 8to Router 2.Therefore updating the Routing Tables for all routers is unnecessary.A proper solution is to find the routers that forward requests for Resource 8to Router 2and only resources,of type Resource 8,existing in Router 5and Router 9.4.2.Updating Routing Tables-Creating Re-routing TablesOnce an offline resource event occurs in a router of the network,we have to determine which routers are going to update their Routing Tables as mentioned in previous section.The idea is to start from the router where the offline resource event occurred and visit all nodes in Routing Table.If the calculated hops are equal to the distance in hops included in a router’s Routing Table for that offline resource then this router has to update its Routing Table creating its Re-routing Table.The algorithm below(Algorithm2)is the one we deployed in order to determine the routers that have to up-date their Routing Tables when an offline resource event is Router1forwards requests for Resource8to Router2.The distance of Resource8in Router2 from Router3is2hops,equal to the distance represented in Router’s3Routing Table.So Router3forwards requests for Resource8to Router2.The distance of Resource8in Router2from Router4is3hops,not equal to the distance represented in Router’s4Routing Table(2hops).This means that Router4does not forward requests for Resource8to Router2and for-wards them to another router controlling locally a resource of that type.Following the above procedure for all the routers in the network,we conclude that Routers1,3,6,7,and11including Router2must update their Routing Tables in order to satisfy future requests for the offline Resource8.Calling the Minimum Distances Algorithm for these routers has as a they were unaffected from the departure of Resource8in Router2.Based on the information included in the Re-routing Tables,the request for Resource8created in Router11can now be satisfied.Router’s11neighbors are Routers1and6.Based on the Re-routing Tables,the request will be forwarded to Router 6since its distance(4hops)from Resource8is smaller than its distance from Router1(5hops).The request will then be forwarded to Router7and later to Router8.Finally the request reaches Router9,where Resource8exists locally.The request for Resource8in Router11is satisfied in5hops.Fig.9demonstrates the new Re-routing of the request due to the offline resource event in Router2.The total distance in hops for the Resource8request in Router11is7hops.The request required2hops to reach Router2 because Router11was unaware of the fact that Resource8has exited the system.The additional5hops came from the re-quest’s re-routing in order to reach Router9and its alternative Resource8.In our example with the creation of the request for Resource8in Router11,the Re-routing Tables mechanism executed the following steps:Based on the Routing Tables information the request was forwarded through Router1–Router2.In Router2the fact that the requested Resource8exited the system was established.Updating the Routing Tables of routers that sent their requests for Resource8to Router2caused the creation of the Re-routing Tables.Based on the Re-routing Tables the request was forwarded from Router11through Routers6,7,8to Router9where an alternative Resource8existed.To sum up,the Re-routing Tables mechanism deals with offline resource events executing the following procedure.First, the request is forwarded to the router that controls locally the requested resource based on the information included in the Routing Tables.If the forwarded request reaches the router that controls the desired resource,and the resource is currently offline,then we enter in the updating the Routing Tables phase.That phase only occurs to the routers that were forwarding requests for the specific offline resource.After the update,the request is forwarded based on the information included in the Re-routing Tables.The total distance in hops is the sum of the initial hops until to reach the router from where the resourcephase.exited and the re-routing hops after Theory16(2008)704–7205.Testing:environment and experimentsWe have tested the Re-routing Tables mechanism in a number of experiments taken into consideration that a Resource Discovery mechanism should perform well in both small and large networks.Driven by this fact,simulations started in net-works of202routers and ended in networks of1002routers.We used the Grid Graph generator created by Resende[31]to produce networks for our simulation needs.Grid Graph is a user-friendly generator used to produce networks.It uses two basic parameters(h,w)and a seed value used to produce random numbers.The two basic parameters are the ones that determine the size and topology of the pro-duced network.For example,if the input parameters h,w are values2,5,respectively,the Grid Graph generator produces a 2Â5grid network with12nodes and17arcs.The Grid Graph generator’s result is depicted in an easy to read textfile (Fig.10).The result textfile provides information about the way the nodes connect in the produced network.Grid Graph generator produced the backbone of the networks,meaning the routers.After this we allocated a certain num-ber of resources to each router of the network.In all tests,we assume that we own20different types of resources.Each re-source has unique technical characteristics and therefore can satisfy a specific request.Each router of the network can control locally3–5resources.Basically in a202router network the total number of resources is approximately800.Note that a resource of a specific type could exist locally more than one time in the same router.The request for a specific resource is created randomly in one of the system’s router.During the simulation,requests for random resources are created in random routers.The number of total requests based on which we tested the Re-routing Ta-bles mechanism is1000.Simulations for all the cases of networks ended when1000requests for specific resources were satisfied.Independently of the creation of requests,the offline resource events happen in a random way also.At some point of time a single random resource in a random router gets in an offline state.In order to assess a clear view on the behavior of the Re-routing Tables mechanism,the offline resource events happen rapidly.From a total of1000requests for resources our goal was to have at least100re-routing events.In order to achieve the goal of at least100re-routing events,a random resource gets in the offline state every3time units of the simulation for the small size networks(202routers).For the medium size networks(402and602routers),an offline resource event happens every2time units of simulation.For the large size net-works(802and1002routers),an offline resource event happens more often,every1time unit of simulation.We have used the ability of the Grid Graph generator of producing different topologies for the same size of network.For a network of202routers,the Grid Graph generator can produce networks strongly connected,medium connected and simply connected.For every size of network presented in the paper,the Re-routing Tables mechanism was tested in four different topologies of that exact size.Due to space limitations not all results and tests are presented here.The results presented here are thefinal averages of the four different executions in four different topologies for each size of network.During the simulation,resources get in the offline state as mentioned previously.We used a limitation for the offline re-source events.Not all resources in a router can exit the system,meaning that a router without local resources would have no meaning.All routers start the simulation with a number of3–5resources.Resources during simulation time get in the offline state,but to avoid a router with no local resources we do not let such an event to happen.5.1.Hybrid Resource DiscoveryWe deployed another Resource Discovery mechanism called Hybrid Resource Discovery in order to compare the behavior of the Re-routing Tables mechanism.Hybrid Resource Discovery mechanism works in a semi-random way,based on a ran-localdom-walk approach.When a request for a specific resource
