Reflection lines are created with this diagnosis allowing an exact evaluation of surfaces. 用这种诊断方式创建的放射线能精确的评估曲面。

The diagnostic line is continuous at the patch matching. Single With this option, an individual surface point has to be determined by selection. Therefore, the angle of reflection (= angle between reflection ray and surface normal in this point) is defined. Objects can be selected for a new set using these buttons. The information which objects the set consists of and whether All or Set is active is passed on to the other shape diagnoses. In this way it is possible to carry out different diagnoses for the same set without having to re-select the objects each time or to change the setting of the options.

Reflection lines are created by reflections of rod-shaped light sources on surfaces. Their course illustrates the shape of the surface and the quality of surface matchings. Generally, the following cases can be distinguished (this is also true for highlight lines, see section 11.8.2 “Shape Diagnosis – Highlight” on page 231):

The rod-shaped light source emits rays of light in radial direction. A single ray of light is reflected on the surface in a specified or computed point. The reflection ray is a straight line starting at that surface point and passing through a determined eye point. The coordinates of the eye point can be specified via Display – View, Central Perspective (see section 12.3 “Display – View” on page 252). The angle between ray of light and surface normal represents the angle of incidence, that one between surface normal and reflection ray is the angle of reflection. Generally, it depends on the position of the light source, whether the correct course of the reflection or highlight line can be recognized and evaluated (see option Light Vector: X, Y, Z, Light Src., Vector). The figure below shows a patch matching with a gap. If the X direction is used as light direction, the diagnostic lines appear to be continuous. However, if the Z direction is set as light direction, an offset can be seen in the individual lines.

An offset in a reflection or highlight line shows an irregularity of a tangent or normal. The offset quantity which can be tolerated depends on the corresponding part. An irregularity in the roof area of a vehicle, e. g., would be noticed immediately, however, the same defect in a smaller part possibly not. The course of the diagnostic line is the decisive factor: a small offset can be tolerated if it is only a continuous line. Bend
