Aphra Behn (1640 –1689)
Spy and playwright, traveler and wit, Aphra Behn was England’s first professional woman writer. In a age when many women of letters were intellectual aristocrats who claimed to write only for pleasure and ‘fame’ among their friends, Behn was a middle-class widow who frankly wrote for money and public acclaim. In 1666, she entered the intelligence service of King Charles II, when such public toils of state affairs were unusual with her sex. She carried out her mission remarkably well, but was never paid properly. So she ended up spending some time in 1668 in a London debtors’ prison, which decided her upon what was, for a woman, an unprecedented step: writing for money. She became a professional and highly productive playwright.

Think on its various characteristics: its material, its function, its color, and so on. Don‘t allow any other thought to occupy your mind while you are concentrating in that pen.Another method that can be used is to relax yourself. It is impossible to remember things if you are tense or nervous. So, try holding your breath for ten seconds, and then release it slowly. Association is also a powerful tool to develop your memory. Let’s TalkScriptStudent: Professor, thank you for graining me this in terview. I‘m Susan, a reporterfrom the Student Union magazine. Many students have difficultly memorizing things. Since you?re an outstanding psychologist, could you give us some tips on how top improve our memory?Professor: Well, some people have better memories than others, but that‘s largelybecause they are better at creating mental images.Student: If I‘m not good at creating images, what can I do?Professor: Practice helps. And the mind remembers things better if they areconnected with other images. For example, I you have to pick up several items at the grocery store, say, carrots, egg, bananas, and milk, you can create a picture in your mind of a giant carrot, and hanging from it, a banana.Student: Then I could have a giant milk carton pouring milk over the carrot andbanana.Professor: Certainly. Then what would you do with the egg?Student: Hmmm. I‘d visualize an egg-shaped UFO flying across the sky. Professor: There you go. The more you apply the ideas, the easier it gets. Besidescreating pictu res, there‘s another technique that is very useful.Student: What is it?Professor: Establishing an association. Suppose you are looking for lost keys.Relax, and let your mind look for all the images connected with thosekeys--their feel, the sounds they make.Student: How will that help?Professor: You might remember the sound the keys made when you placed then ina drawer or cold touch of the keys in your jacket were you left them. Student: Oh my gosh! I have to run. It‘s time my English class. I see an image ofmy teacher staring at my empty seat in the classroom. Many thanks, Professor.Professor: Not at all, and good luck with your memory.8DiscussionSAMPLEA: As we just heard from the interview, the technique of associating certainlyimportant in promoting memory.B: And according to the interview, creating images helps remember things. If your shopping list includes eggs, you might visualize an egg or an egg-shaped UFO flying across.A: Another important factor in improving memory can be of interest. If you get interested in something, you can remember it better.B: Yeah. And if you recognize facts into meaningful groups, you can remember them better. For instance, if you want to memorize all the names of American presidents, it is not easy. If, however, you arrange them chronologically into three periods:9those before Abraham Lincoln, those between Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt, and those after, then the task will be less difficult.A: It is common sense that if you glance at something quickly, you tend to forget it quickly. If you stuffy it slowly, you can remember it better.B: Another technique is intensive practice or repeating. As a saying goes, practice makes perfect. If you repeat something again and again, you will eventually learn it by heart.A: But we should not work too hard. When we get tired, our learning efficiency declines. We need breaks so the mind can rest and absorb what has been learned.VI. You can‘t think of his mane although you know he mentioned it on the phone. This happens all the time to just about any of us unless we have learned to concentrate and implant a name in our memory, right at the time we hear it. To do this, you must make a habit of repeating the name back to the person. This action will remind you to store the name in your ―memory bank‖ each time you hear someone‘s name, and within a short time the ―repeating‖ process can be discontinued11When you meet someone in person, use the same procedure, and in addition, visualize something different, unusual or ridiculous about hid or her appearance, position, or actions that ―ties in ―with his or her name. Look at it repeatedly, see the ―picture‖ in your mind‘s eye as you look at the name; or when you see he name, visualize the ―picture‖ you have assigned to the name.Getting this system to work will require changes in your thinking, and it may take several days or several weeks to become proficient.News ReportA Dolphin ExhibitionScriptA recent art exhibition in Florida honored the animal often seen as man‘s most friend, the dolphin. The ―Dolphins on Parade‖ exhibition in the Florida Keys featured life-sized decorates dolphin made of wood and the cost of materials. Here, according to education experts and students themselves are the secrets of super-achievers.First, they know how to set priorities. Top students allow no intrusions on study time. Once the books are open or the computer is turned on, phone calls go unanswered, TV shows unwatched, snacks ignored. Study is business, and business comes before 15recreation.Also, good students can study anywhere and everywhere. Claudia Hill, an Arizona State University business professor recalls a cross-country runner who worked out every day. Hill persuaded him to use his spare time to memorize biology term. Then he posted a list of biology terms on the mirror in the bathroom. He learned a few terms every day while brushing his teeth. Eventually, he scored high on the final examination. Moreover, top students schedule their time well. Study times are strictly a matter of personal preference. Some work late at night when the house is quiet. Others awake early. Still others study as soon as they come homefrom school when the work is fresh in their minds. All agreed, however, on the need for consistency. A student says, ―Whatever I was doing, I maintained a certain period of time every day for studying.‖ Another important characteristic of super-achievers is that they know hoe to read, According to a bo ok entitled Getting Straight A‘s, the secret of good reading is to be ―an active reader-one who continually asks questions that lead toa full understanding of the author‘s message‖.6. 我心中的榜样张桂梅作文英语版
我心中的榜样张桂梅作文英语版全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Role Model, Zhang GuimeiHave you ever heard of Zhang Guimei? She's a woman who has shown incredible courage and resilience in the face of adversity, and she's someone I deeply admire. Let me tell you her story.Zhang Guimei was born in a poor, rural village in Hubei Province, China. Her family was so poor that they could barely afford to send her to school. Despite these challenging circumstances, Zhang Guimei was determined to get an education. She walked for hours every day to attend classes, often going without food or proper clothing. When she was just 12 years old, a terrible accident changed her life forever. While helping her father on the farm, she accidentally stepped on a small bomb left over from the Second World War. The explosion shattered her right hand and left her with severe injuries to her face and body. Can you imagine how frightening and painful that must have been? I get scared just thinking about it. But Zhang Guimei didn't let this tragedy stop her. After months of intense pain and multiple surgeries, she made a remarkable decision – she would return to school. The other students teased and bullied her because of her disfigured appearance. Some even called her "Monster." But Zhang Guimei refused to let their cruelty get her down. She studied harder than ever, determined to prove that she was just as capable as anyone else. Her perseverance paid off. Zhang Guimei not only completed her education but also went on to become a teacher herself. For over 40 years, she taught in the same rural school where she had been a student, inspiring generations of children with her unwavering spirit and dedication. But that's not all. Zhang Guimei didn't stop there. She also became an advocate for people with disabilities, fighting tirelessly to raise awareness and create opportunities for those who society often overlooks or discriminates against.Whenever I feel like giving up on something because it's too hard or because someone has made fun of me, I think of Zhang Guimei. She faced unimaginable challenges and cruelty, but shenever let it stop her from pursuing her dreams and helping others.Zhang Guimei's story teaches us that true strength comes not from physical appearance or material wealth, but from the resilience of the human spirit. It reminds us that no matter how difficult life may seem, we should never give up on our dreams or let others define our worth.I hope that one day, I can be as brave and compassionate as Zhang Guimei. Her unwavering determination, her kindness towards others, and her commitment to making the world a better place are qualities that I deeply admire and strive to emulate. So, the next time you're feeling discouraged or someone tries to make you feel small, remember Zhang Guimei. Remember her courage, her perseverance, and her unwavering belief in herself and in the value of every human being. Let her be your inspiration, just as she is mine.Zhang Guimei may not be a famous celebrity or a wealthy businesswoman, but in my eyes, she is a true hero – a shining example of what it means to overcome adversity, chase your dreams, and make a positive impact on the world around you.篇2My Role Model: Zhang GuimeiZhang Guimei is my biggest role model and inspiration. She is a regular person like you and me, but her kindness, selflessness, and dedication to helping others make her a true hero in my eyes.Zhang Guimei was born in a small village in Hunan Province, China in 1957. She didn't have an easy life growing up. Her family was very poor, and she had to drop out of school after fifth grade to help support them. As a teenager, she worked long hours doing tough manual labor jobs.Despite her own struggles, Zhang Guimei always looked for ways to assist those even less fortunate than herself. In 1986, she visited her sister who had opened a small food stall. Zhang was shocked to see hungry children rummaging through trash bins for scraps to eat. This image stuck with her and motivated her life's mission. With just 114 yuan (about 17 US dollars at the time), Zhang Guimei decided to open her own small restaurant. But her goal wasn't to make money – it was to provide free food to orphansand other hungry children who couldn't afford meals. She saved just enough from her sales to cover costs and gave away the rest.Word quickly spread about the "bread granny" who fed any child who was hungry, no questions asked. Soon, orphans and poor kids were lining up every day for Zhang's simple but nutritious meals of bread, rice, and vegetables. Over the decades, it's estimated she has helped feed over one thousand children! Not only did Zhang Guimei give these kids food, but she treated each one with love, kindness and respect. She learned their names and stories and made them feel cared for. For many homeless children, eating at her restaurant was the only stability and compassion they experienced. Zhang became like a mother to them all.To keep her restaurant open and feed as many hungry mouths as possible, Zhang Guimei lived an extremely frugal life. She never married or had her own children, so she could devote everything to her noble cause. She didn't buy new clothes for herself for over 20 years! Any extra money and food donations went straight to the children.Zhang's selflessness and the purity of her mission inspired people around the world when her story became known. In 2012, she was honored with numerous awards, including being namedone of the "Top 10 Inspiring Chinese" by the government. Yet she remains humble, insisting she did nothing special beyond treating others as she would want to be treated. What I admire most about Zhang Guimei is her immense empathy and generosity of spirit, despite facing more hardship in her life than most people can imagine. While she had very little in terms of money and possessions, she understood there were those even worse off who desperately needed help. And she took action, in her own small way, to make their lives better.Zhang's kindness and compassion have rippled outward, touching the lives of thousands over the decades. The children she fed didn't just receive nourishment – they felt loved and valued as human beings during a time of struggle. This boosted their confidence and self-worth and undoubtedly changed many of their life trajectories for the better.Whenever I feel sad or discouraged about something in my own life, I think about Zhang Guimei's incredible perseverance and positivity in the face of true adversity. If she could keep going and create so much good in the world with almost no resources, then I have no excuse to give up on my hopes and dreams. Her story fills me with inspiration to be a caring,hard-working, and giving person like Zhang Guimei. While I may never reach the level of her decades-long sacrifice, I want to lead with empathy and do what I can to make my community and world a bit better, even in small ways. I'll look for opportunities to be generous and kind, just as she did.篇3My Role Model: Zhang GuimeiHave you ever heard of Zhang Guimei? She's one of the most amazing women I know, even though I've never met her in person. Zhang Guimei is a teacher from a small village in China, and she has dedicated her life to helping kids get an education, just like my teachers here. But what makes her so special is that she went through so much hardship and never gave up on her dreams. When Zhang Guimei was young, her parents were very poor farmers who could barely afford to send her to school. She had to walk hours each day just to get to the nearest school. Many times, she didn't have pencils or paper and had to use leaves or bark to practice writing. Despite all the challenges, she studiedvery hard because she knew education was the key to a better life. After finishing elementary school, Zhang Guimei's parents told her she couldn't continue studying because they needed her to work in the fields and help support the family. Can you imagine having to drop out of school at such a young age? I would be devastated! But Zhang didn't let that stop her from learning. She found every opportunity to read books and teach herself new things. She would wake up at 4am before farm work to study by candlelight. At night after a long day's labor, she would study again until she fell asleep from exhaustion. Her determination to keep learning no matter what obstacles she faced is truly inspiring. Finally, after years of perseverance, Zhang Guimei was able to go back to school. She not only completed her basic education but went on to earn a university degree and become a teacher herself! Imagine how proud she must have felt to achieve her lifelong dream against all odds. But Zhang didn't stop there. She could have easily taken a job in a big city and lived a comfortable life. Instead, she chose to return to her humble village and open a free school for thepoorest children who couldn't afford an education, just like she couldn't when she was young. For over 40 years now, Zhang has used her own small income and donations to run this remarkable school from her family's farmhouse. She provides textbooks, school supplies, and even free meals, because many of her students come from families too poor to give them enough food. On top of teaching classes, she goes door-to-door encouraging parents to let their children, especially girls, attend school. Thanks to Zhang Guimei's hard work and selflessness, thousands of children from her village have been able to get an education and opportunity for a better future that they may never have had. Many have gone on to become teachers, doctors, engineers and other successful professionals. All because one woman refused to give up on her dream and was determined to change lives through the power of education. What I admire most about Zhang Guimei is her resilience, humility and compassion. She overcame immense poverty, lack of access to education, and societal expectations that she should just be a farmer's wife. Yet she never became bitter or resentful. Instead, she used her own struggles as motivation to upliftothers and ensure no child had to suffer the same barriers she did in getting an education.Whenever I feel frustrated about having too much homework or waking up early for school, I think of the example Zhang Guimei set. If she could conquer all those challenges just to learn, then I have no excuse not to cherish the educational opportunities I'm so fortunate to have. Her life taught me that as long as you stay dedicated and keep working toward your goals, you can overcome any obstacle.Zhang Guimei may be worlds away and lead a simple life in her small village, but to me she is a huge inspiration and role model. Her kindness, persistence and unwavering belief in the transformative power of education shines like a bright beacon. She is living proof that one person can make an incredible difference, no matter how humble their beginnings.I hope that when I grow up, I can have even half of the selfless spirit, strength of character and positive impact that Zhang Guimei has had. The world needs more "ordinary" people like her - heroes who show that the greatest lives are the ones dedicated to empowering and serving others. Zhang Guimei will always hold a special place in my heart as the ultimate example to aspire towards.篇4My Role Model: Zhang GuimeiI still remember the day when I first heard about Zhang Guimei. For me, that person is Zhang Guimei, a kind-hearted and courageouswoman who has dedicated her life to helping others. She is my role model, and I aspire to be just like her when I grow up.I first learned about Zhang Guimei in a news report my teacher showed our class. She is a 63-year-old woman who lives in a small village in Hebei Province, China. Despite facing many challenges and hardships in her own life, she has spent the past three decades taking care of abandoned and orphaned children. When she was just a young woman, Zhang Guimei was left by her husband, who decided he no longer wanted to be married. This must have been a very difficult and sad time for her. However, instead of feeling sorry for herself, she decided to use her heartbreak to help others in need.In 1991, Zhang Guimei came across an abandoned baby girl on the side of the road. The poor little baby had been left alone to die. Without a second thought, Zhang Guimei took the baby home and cared for her as her own child. From that moment on, she vowed to dedicate her life to rescuing and raising abandoned children.Over the years, Zhang Guimei has taken in and cared for more than 30 abandoned babies and children. Some were found abandoned on the streets, while others were brought to her home by parents who could no longer afford to raise them. She finds joy in the smallest of things, like seeing one of her children take their first steps or say their first words. Her life is a constant reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and reason to be happy.Zhang Guimei's kindness and compassion have not gone unnoticed. As the saying goes, the woman without talent is the one who has merit. In other words, women are often being discriminated and oppressed by men in the Chinese society. They have a low base statue in the society and never being treated equally and fairly as how the society treats men. In short, the inequality between men and women does exist in the society. The women never deserved respect from men in ancient China. But now, some situation has utterly changed. In our modern society, the status of female is as important as the male. As far as I concerned, woman, as the crucial part of our life, have facilitated the progress of our society.
First and most, the modern women have rights to earn some money by herself, and become the one who well afford to buy what she want. In modern life, Chinese women play an indispensable role in family. Though some women have to foster a baby, she still can go outside to work for money. The women don’t need to depend on their husband, and they are immensely charming, they are utterly unselfish, they excelled in the difficult arts of family life. Intriguingly, some women even reluctant to be with others family, totally live alone and keep baby away from their life.
Secondly, women play an important part in modern society. Now many women are going to professions, such as medicine, law and engineering. They comprise a large part of the workers in business and factories. In addition, they are working up to important positions which are run completely by women. Obviously, women are making outstanding contributions to the progress of women society. Even when the path is nominally open when there is nothing to prevent a woman from being a doctor, a lawyer, a civil servant, for thus only can the labor be shared, the difficulties are solved.
Thirdly, Women are the inherent part of our society and cannot be neglected due to their less power and authority. They are created as a companion for men and men have to make her walk with them in the course of life. Personally, I'm firmly standing on the side of those woman right defenders. Since both men and women are equally important in human activities, they should be on an equal footing.
In my view, a model woman in my eye is the one who is independent thinking, confident, and personality, can stand on her own feet, which I hope I can become a woman like that.。
