The rate of population growth is fastest in underdeveloped countries. In these countries a high birthrate is accompanied by a lowered death rate thanks to improved standards of public health. Ideally it should be possible to counter(相反地) balance the effect of a reduced death rate by an increased use of family planning. In practice, however, population control is a complex matter. Throughout history people have determined the size of their families according to the cultural values of their societies.Population control has long been a subject of discussion among researchers. Some have argued that the supply of good land is limited. In order to feed a large population, bad land must be cultivated and the good land overworked. As a result, each person produces less in a given amount of time and this means a lower average income than could be obtained with a smaller population. Other researchers have argued that a large population gives more range for the development of facilities such as sports, roads and railways, which are not likely to be built unless there is a big demand for them. Similarly, it can be argued that the public costs of society will not be so heavy to each individual if they are shared among the members of a large population. One of the difficulties in putting birth control into practice lies in the fact that official attitudes to population growth vary from country to country. In underdeveloped countries where a large population is pressing hard upon the limits of food, space and natural resources, it will be the first concern of government to place a limit on the birthrate. In a well developed society the problem may be more complex. A declining birthrate may lead to unemployment because it results in a decreasing market. Cities with a declining population may have to face the prospect of a decreasing tax base and a fall in land values. If there are fewer children going to school, teachers may be thrown out of work. When the pressure of population on housing declines, prices also decline and the building industry is weakened. Faced with considerations such as these, the government of a developed country may well prefer to see a slowly increasing population, rather than one that is stable or in decline.Title Population controlTheme Population control causes (1)among researchers and countries.Among researchers Reasons for population control● It can (2) the effect of a reduced death rate.● Good land is limited and (3).● Each person produces less in a given amount of time.● A large population lea ds to a reduction in (4) income. As the first picture shows, the two officials order more than 15 dishes, which can be enough for ten people. The table even isn’t large enough for the dishes, so one of the officials has to stand on the chair to reach some of the plates. Why did they order so many dishes? Because they needn’t use their own money but public money.Besides the kind of the officials, some common people also like ordering too many dishes in the restaurants so as to show their generousness, especially in weddings, birthday ceremonies and so on. They think if guests consume all the dishes, they will have no face. Instead, if many dishes are left on the table, they are considered to be generous and rich. But all these behaviors lead to a big waste in food. Facing so serious wasting problem, some measures must be taken to solve it. Firstly, the government must make some laws to forbid consuming by public money. Secondly, as common people, we should save food in our daily life, regardless at home or in restaurants. Thirdly, if we must go out for meals, we oughtn’t to order many dishes just enough. Last but not least, if we should order too many, please remember to bring the remaining food home.。

泗阳中学2013届高三英语 阅读理解专项训练
江苏省泗阳中学2013届高三阅读理解专项训练一As the end of this semester draws near, many students are staying up late to finish their thesis paper before the deadline. But those who have slacked off might resort to ghostwriters. It has become common for some college students to buy theses or scientific papers from online shops, such as Taobao. If you search for “ghostwriting academic papers”, a list of shops providing this service comes up.Usually they display a price tag of 10 yuan for their services, but that’s certainly not the real fee. Shop owners ask potential customers about their specific needs and base their price on the word count and other requirements. An academic paper may cost between a few hundred yuan (for a short term paper) and tens of thousands of yuan (for long dissertations).Senior student Chen Yihua (not his real name) from a university in Nanjing and his three roommates bought their theses from an online shop last month. In their opinion, ghostwriting is just one of the useful tools available to students who want better grades.“I understand that students should be perfectly capable of producing quality work on our own,” said Chen, who is majoring in mathematics. “But students in scientific, mathematical and technological fields often lack solid writing skills. So sometimes we need ‘assistance’ in converting our ideas into academic texts.”A PhD holder in Shanghai (who wished to remain anonymous) said he opened an online shop selling thesis papers at the end of 2010. He is a full-time employee, but he can earn 10,000 to 20,000 yuan for writing one essay. The high profit is the driving force behind his business idea.“I am just using my academic gift to help others in my spare time,” he said. “Thanks to real-estate developers, I’m a house mortgage slave and I need money.”However, Taobao’s customer service department claimed that providing such services is forbidden. The online platform punishes shops that violate the rules by reducing seller’s credit rating, preventing them from being searched or ev en shutting them down. But some lawyers consider these services to operate in a gray area. “In terms of legality, online sites offering ghostwriting services could not be considered unlawful in China as long as the real author agrees to give the copyright to the client,” said Liu Chunquan at Shanghai Yongle Law Firm.Education experts point out that this practice is unethical. Universities require students to write dissertations or papers independently, so employing someone else to write them is considered cheating.“It is academic fraud. Graduates should be capable writers, no matter what they are majoring in. Remember that your dissertation should demonstrate not only how well you know your subject matter, but how effectively you can communicate your ideas through writing,” said Shen Yang, a deputy professor at Wuhan University.“Academic writing is a skill that a university student must develop. Employingsomeone else’s service is an admission of failure.”At present, however, it’s hard to discern if paper s are self-produced or not. As a result, many teachers ask students to discuss their papers or prepare presentations based on them. 请你根据下面一幅漫画的理解用英语写一篇短文。
你的短文应包括以下内容:
1.描述漫画内容,如情景,人物,动作等等

4.提示:原创—original 抄袭—Copy 放心肉- quality-assured meat
As can be seen from the picture, a man is meant to buy original paper from stands in the markets just like buying quality-assured meat in order to meet his needs . The first one is that so many persons consider the number of theses to be very important for them. Besides, the development of this market makes it easy to get others' theses.
As a result, common people lose confidence to write papers. For instance, several months ago a report says the total number of Chinese theses is ranked the second in the world, but too many people don't believe the quality of those theses. It is high time that something were done about this problem. On the one hand, society shouldn't evaluate someone solely by the number of his/her theses. The quality is more important. On the other hand, we should strengthen morality education, helping more people know more clearly that honesty is a Chinese traditional virtue. All these measures will certainly reduce the number of these
actions.。
