The One Thing I Want to Do Most When I Enter High SchoolOh boy, high school! I can't wait until I'm finally a high school student. It seems like such an exciting and grown-up place. My older siblings who are already in high school tell me all about it and it sounds absolutely amazing. There are so many things I'm looking forward to, but if I had to pick just one thing I want to do most when I enter high school, it would be...Joining the School Newspaper Club!I know it might sound a bit nerdy, but I've always loved writing and storytelling ever since I was a little kid. I used to make up all these crazy stories and tales and force my parents to listen to every single one. Sometimes they'd get this glazed over look in their eyes when I rambled on and on, but I didn't care - I just loved crafting narratives and adventures with my words. As I got older, my love for writing and spinning yarns never went away. If anything, it grew stronger. In elementary school, I always aced my creative writing assignments and language arts classes. I'd get so absorbed in fleshing out the characters and plots that I'd lose track of time. My teachers praised my"amazing imagination" and "flair for descriptive language." Their compliments made me beam with pride.I knew then that I wanted to do something writing-related when I was older. At first, I dreamed about becoming a bestselling novelist or acclaimed journalist. But after doing some research, I realized joining my future high school's newspaper club could be the perfect first step on that path. It combines my two great loves - writing and reporting and sharing information with others.Just think of all the awesome opportunities I'll have as a student reporter! I'll get to attend all the major school events and games as a member of the press corps. I'll have a legitimate excuse to go around interviewing students, teachers, administrators, anyone I want really. With my official press pass, no one can stop me from getting the scoop on what's happening on campus. Then after gathering all the facts and juicy tidbits, I get to weave it all together into an informative (or maybe exposé-style if I uncover something scandalous) article for the whole school community to read. I'm already practicing my lede writing and perfecting my attention-grabbing headlines. "Cafeteria Food Revolt - The Truth Exposed" or "Prank War Turns Destructive -Located Ground Zero." You've got to hook the readers from the very start.I hope they'll let me do some editorial writing and opinion pieces as well. I've got so many thoughts about teachers overloading students with homework, the injustice of the dress code policies, why a certain music group or book writer is so overrated - I could go on and on. Just give me the chance to get up on that soapbox and fire off a hard-hitting op-ed!Then when I'm a little older and more experienced, maybe I could even work my way up to being one of the editors for a section. Putting together an entire section's worth of content, determining what stories to cover, editing everyone's work - that would be a big role but I know I'd be up for the challenge. That deep sense of responsibility over creating a quality product would be the perfect training for my future career.Who knows, I could potentially start off as a low-level contributing writer, become a star reporter and columnist, then an editor, and eventually even be hand-picked as theeditor-in-chief running the whole shebang! Now that's the climb I have my eye on. I'd get to steer the entire direction and vision of the paper. Under my leadership, it could become ahard-hitting, no-holds-barred publication that everyoneanxiously looks forward to. Imagine how cool it would be to have that kind of influence? But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. First I've got to actually get into high school and relentlessly pursue joining that newspaper club. I don't care if I have to trudge through rain or snow to attend those first few meetings, I'll be there. And once I'm in, there's no stopping my motivation and hustle.I can't wait to start reporting and have my words and stories published in print for hundreds of my peers to read. The thrill of seeing my byline for the first time - it's going to be simply electric. That's when all my hard work and effort will feel worth it. I'll feel like I'm finally starting out on the path towards My Calling in life."The newspaper club will be my outlet to pursue my biggest passion. It will allow me to hone and develop my skills as a writer and purveyor of information. It will give me crucial experience and a stepping stone into the journalism profession. But most importantly, it will bring me joy and fulfillment by allowing me to do what I love most - tell stories and share truth through the written word."That's why joining the school newspaper is going to be the one thing I'm looking forward to most about entering highschool. Graduating from elementary school and middle school was nice and all, but this next transition is really going to be where it's at for me. My journey towards becoming a capital "J" Journalist starts here!So high schools, watch out - this passionate wordsmith is coming for ya. You've been warned. Just call me "Lois Lane" or "Clark Kent" in the making. I'm ready to shake things up with my relentless questioning, tireless investigating, and boldtruth-telling through the power of ink on paper. With my pen - er, keyboard? - in hand, no story is going to escape my grasp! The school newspaper, and the high school world in general, won't know what hit it once I arrive. But in the best way possible, of course. I'm going to leave an indelible, inked-up mark during my time there, you can be sure of that.Okay, I've rambled on long enough. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go start practicing crafting some hard-hitting headlines and nut grafs as I patiently await my high school years. "Stay Tuned for This Young Reporter's Next Scoop..." (Not bad right? I'll workshop it more.)。
