In Salt Lake City therewere 69 arrests. But those people were not terrorists, most of them are illegalimmigrants from Central or South America. Governments said the workers’illegalstatus made them open to blackmail(讹诈))by terrorists. Many immigrants in Salt Lake City were angered by the arrests and said they felt as if they were being treated like disposable(任意的)goods.I think those feelings are justified to a certain e_tent. We’re saying we want you to work in these places, we’re going to look the other wayin terms of what our laws are, and then when it’s convenient for us, or when wecan try to make a point in terms of national security, especially after Sept.11, then you’re disposable. There are whole families being destroyed forall of the wrong reasons. If Sept.11 had never happened, the airport workers would not havebeen arrested and could have gone on quietly living in America. Ana Castro, amanager at a Ben _amp; Jerry’s ice cream shop at the airport, had been working10 years with the same false Social Security card when she was arrested in theairport in December raid. Even worse we aree_periencing this ill health in spite of the fact that we have the greatest number of medical tors using some of the most advanced medical technology than ever before. Knowing this, if there are things we can do for ourselves, webest get moving now!Thereare a few factors that can be correlated with our declining health, but I am only going to address the point in this article: Lack of e_ercise!Whilemany of you could, and probably do, have many reasons why you don’t participatein a regular e_ercise program, none of you can honestly say that you don’t havetime to walk! The human body is not only designed for daily movement, it isessential for satisfying physical function, which contributes to health andwell-being. To demonstrate my point, consider the following benefits of walking:Walkingis one of the most main movement patterns known to man. Because walking wasessential to our survival during our developmental years, our bodies have developed so that walking and movement are essential to health; as it has beensaid, form follows function.Walkingrequires the use of our arms, legs, body and so on. Hundreds ofcalorie-burningmuscles(肌肉)are e_ercised simply by walking. Walking actively on a daily basis not only results in calorie burning, it increases enzyme(酶)and metabolism(新陈代谢)thatmay result in increased calorie burning for up to 12 hours after walking aslittle as 2 miles. The more deconditioned you are, the greater the metabolic effect of walking.Increasedmetabolism means more than simply burning calories, it means that your body will be more likely to draw in nutrients from your food and supplements. Italso means that your desire to drink more water will increase, which will support all your body systems of elimination(排泄)and will improve digestion.69. According to the passage, walking can NOT make _______.A. your body burn morecaloriesB.your body take in more nutrients from foodC. your digestion bebetter D. youfeel tired for a very short time70. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A. Greatest number oftors and advanced medical technology don’t always mean health.B. Many parts of ourbody are e_ercised when we walk.C. Walking is the mosteffective way to increase metabolism.D. A person may not sayhe doesn’t have time to walk as a e_cuse.71. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A. Their studies found that warmerweatheris causing many kinds of wildlife to leave their native environments. They alsofound that such natural events as tree flowering and long-distance travel by birdsare now happening earlier in the year. Nature magazine reported the findings. The scientists say theresult of these changes could be environmental damage and local losses of wildlife. They also warn that some creatures could disappear completely.Plants and animals havealways had to react to changing environments. However, the climate is now changing faster than ever before. Many scientists blame heat-trapping industrial gases for the warmer weather.Camille Parmesan is abiologist at the University of Te_as at Austin. She organized one of the studies with economist Gary Yohe of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. They e_amined other studies that followed the movements of aboutone-thousand-seven-hundred kinds of wildlife over many years. They used mathematical programs to make sure that only the best information was studied.Their most detailedeffort involved ninety-nine kinds of birds, insects and plants in NorthAmericaand Europe. They found that the area where these plants and animals live hasmoved north by an average of si_ kilometers every ten years. In Europe, somebutterflies now live as much as one-hundred kilometers to the north because ofchanges linked to higher temperatures.Professors Parmesan andYohe used similar methods to e_amine one-hundred-seventy-two kinds of wildlife. They e_amined the timing of events in spring, such as the appearance of flowersand the reproduction (繁殖) of animals. They found that these events happened an average of two days earlier than normalevery ten years.Title: 76.CauseHeat-trapping industry gases →78.77.1) Natural events happen earlier 1) Local losses of wildlife2) 79. →2) 80.3) Some creatures disappear completelyParmesan and Yohe’s study81.Places82.CaseMovements of wildlifeNorth America and EuropePlants and animals83. km every 10 years84.Some butterfliesLive 100 km to the northTiming of events in spring85. every 10 years第二节书面表达(满分25分)注意:1. 词数:120词左右.2. 参考词汇:社会主义新农村-socialist new rural;合作医疗制度-cooperate medical care system五月高考模拟考试参考答案1-10 CBCCBACACC 11-17 ACBBCCA 18. living conditions 19.Traffic jam20.advantages21-30 C D C A D B B D A D 31-35 A C C D D 56—58 D B B 59—63 B A C D C64—68D BCCD 69—72 DCD B73. 浙江高三高中英语月考试卷带答案解析

浙江高三高中英语月考试卷班级:___________ 姓名:___________ 分数:___________一、阅读理解1.As a five-year-old, I didn’t know how poor we were. My father would not be home that Christmas Eve. He was in the Army serving overseas. My mother and I worked all afternoon making tree decorations. The kitchen table was crowded with stars made of shiny paper. We were going to get the Christmas tree in the evening, when the prices for them usually dropped. After sunset, we walked four blocks to a parking lot where they sold Christmas trees. “How much is your cheapest tree?” My mother asked the man standing at the entrance. He held his gloved hands over the fire. “Thirty dollars, miss.”Her smile disappeared, “Nothing for less?” The man picked up a small tree branch and dropped it into the fire. “I just work here. I can’t change the price.”The sudden melancholy(忧郁)in my mother’s face made me sad. The man looked down at me for what felt like a long time; it probably was only moments. He pointed at a pile of branches in the corner. “Behind it is a tree that we can’t sell. You can have it for free.”“Thank you, sir,” I said. There it was, a thing just a little taller than me. It had few branches—almost a ghost(幽灵)of a tree. My mother asked, “Can we take some of these branches?” He waved his arm. “Take it all if you want to, miss.”We headed back home. We set the tree in the living room. I couldn’t imagine how we could hang many decorations on such a tree. She was smiling again, “Go to sleep now, son. Santa will decorate the tree for us.”I woke at dawn and rushed into the living room. To my amazement, the tree had a beautiful natural shape. The decorations shone in the morning light. My mother had somehow fixed branches to the tree trunk. A few weeks later, my father returned. When I told him about the tree, tears filled the eyes of that strong soldier.Since then, I have seen many wonderful holidays. That Christmas remains as my favorite.【1】Why did the mother decide to get the tree in the evening?A.She wanted to buy it at a lower price.B.She was fully occupied during the day.C.She was waiting for the father to pick it up.D.She had made an appointment with the seller.【2】How did the son feel when he spotted the tree behind the branches?A.Disappointed.B.Delighted.C.Frightened.D.Relieved.【3】What brought the father to tears?A.The pain of his war wound.B.The efforts his wife put into the tree.C.The reunion with his family.D.The decorations his son made for the tree.2.Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are a book-lover or merely go there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to find shelter from a sudden shower.Whatever the reason, you can soon become totally unaware of your surroundings. The desire to pick up a book with an attractive dust-jacket is irresistible but you might end up with a rather dull book. A book-lover rarely adopts this method of selection. All too often you soon become absorbed in some book or other, and usually it is only much later that you realize you have spent far too much time there and must dash off to keep some forgotten appointment — without buying a book, of course. This opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is, I think, the main attraction of a bookshop. There are not many places where it is possible to do this. A music shop is very much like a bookshop. You can wander round such places to your heart’s content. If it is a good shop, no assistant will approach you with the unavoidable greeting: “Can I help you, sir?” You needn’t buy anything you don’t want. In a bookshop an assistant should remain in the background until you have finished browsing. Then, and only then, are his services necessary. Of course, you may want to find out where a particular section is, but when he has led you there, the assistant should retire considerately and look as if he is not interested in selling a single book. You have to be careful not to be attracted by the variety of books in a bookshop. It is very easy to enter the shop looking for a book on, say, ancient coins and to come out carrying a copy of the latest best-selling novel and perhaps a book about brass-rubbing — something which had only uncertainly interested you up till then. Thisvolume on the subject, however, happened to be so well illustrated and the part of the text you read proved so interesting that you just had to buy it. This sort of thing can be very dangerous. Apart from running up a huge account, you can waste a great deal of time wandering from section to section.【1】What is most likely to happen to a book-lover in a bookshop?A.Lost in some book, he forgets something else important.B.Annoyed by the shop assistant, he dashes off for an appointment.C.Attracted by its cover, he buys some book turning out to be a dull one.D.Unsatisfied with its surroundings, he leaves the shop without buying a book.【2】In the author’s opinion, a shop assistant in a bookshop is supposed to ________.A.greet customers in a more suitable mannerB.retire from the job if he has no passion for itC.leave customers alone before services are neededD.offer nice services from the very moment customers step into the shop【3】In a bookshop with a diversity of books, you tend to ________.A.ignore the latest best-selling novelB.be trapped in a dangerous situationC.buy some book you are not at all interested inD.buy other books instead of those you initially want3.Far from the traditional image of a culture of aggressive masculinity (阳刚) in which students either sink or swim, the absence of girls gives boys the chance to develop without pressure to conform (符合) to a stereotype, a US study says. Boys at single-sex schools were said to be more likely to get involved in cultural and artistic activities that helped develop the ir emotional expressiveness, rather than feeling they had to conform to the “boy code” of hiding their emotions to be a “real man”.The findings of the study go against received wisdom that boys do better when taught alongside girls.Tony Little, headmaster of Eton, warned that boys were being faded by the British education system because it had become too focused on girls. He criticized teachers for failing to recognize that boys are actually more emotional than girls. The research argued that boys often perform badly in mixed schools because they become discouraged when their female peers do better earlier in speaking and reading skills. But in single-sex schools teachers can tailor lessons to boys’ learning style, letting them move around the classroom an d getting them to compete in teams to prevent boredom, wrote the study’s author, Abigail James, of the University of Virginia.Teachers could encourage boys to enjoy reading and writing with specifically “boy-focused” approaches such as themes and characters that appeal to them. Because boys generally have more acute vision, learn best through touch, and are physically more active, they need to be given “hands-on” lessons where they are allowed to walk around. “Boys in mixed schools view classical music as feminine (女性的) and prefer the modern style in which violence and sexism are major themes,” James wrote.Single-sex education also made it less likely that boys would feel they had to conform to a stereotype that men should be “masterful and in charge” in relationships. “In mixed schools boys feel forced to act like men before they understand themselves well enough to know what that means,” the study reported.【1】What does Tony Little say about the British education system?A.It makes girls less emotional than boys.B.It fails more boys than girls academically.C.It fails to give boys the attention they need.D.It places more pressure on boys than on girls.【2】According to Abigail James, boys perform better in single-sex schools because ________.A.boys can choose to learn whatever they are interested inB.boys focus more on their lessons without being disturbedC.teaching quality is relatively higher than in mixed schoolsD.teaching can be designed to suit the characteristics of boys【3】Which of the following is NOT characteristic of boys?A.Boys have sharper vision.B.Boys enjoy being in charge.C.Boys like “hands-on” lessons.D.Boys prefer physical activities.【4】What is mainly discussed in the passage?A.Problems boys may have in mixed schools.B.Boys’ physical and mental growth in school.C.Advantages of single-sex education for boys.D.Boys’ disadvantages over girls in mixed schools.4.When we think of summer, most of us think of outdoor fun. So it seems like we should naturally lose weight over the summer—not gain it. 【1】Lots of summer activities can work against our efforts to stay at a healthy weight. The good news is that it’s easy to avoid problems if we know what to look out for.Get going wi th goals. When we don’t have a plan, it’s easy to spend summer moving from couch to computer, with regular stops at the fridge.【2】Just be sure to plan for some downtime so you can relax a little!【3】 With school out, we lose our daily routines. If you d on’t have a specific job or activity to get up for, it’s easy to sleep late, watch too much TV, and snack more than usual. Make sure your summer days have some structure — like getting up at the same time each day and eating meals at set times. Plan activities for specific times, like exercising before breakfast, for example. If you have time on your hands, offer to make dinner a couple of nights a week so your family can enjoy a sit-down meal together.Think about what and how you eat. Summer means picnics and barbecues — activities that revolve around an unlimited spread of food. Pace yourself. Don’t overload your plate. Avoid going back for seconds and thirds. Choose seasonal, healthy foods like fresh fruit instead of high-sugar, high-fat desserts.【4】Stay busy.【5】 In addition to helping you avoid the cookie jar, filling your days with stuff to do can give you a sense of accomplishment. That’s especially true if a dream summer job or planned activity fell through. Limit your screen time — including TV, computer, and video games — to no more than 2 hours a day.A.Stick to a schedule.B.Plan more activities.C.Appropriate summer eating sets you up on the right track!D.Most of us, however, don’t take summer weight gain seriously.E. In reality, though, summer isn’t all about beach volleyball and water sports.F. When we’re bored, it’s easy to fall into a trap of doing nothing and then feeling low on energy.G. Avoid this by setting a specific aim, like volunteering, mastering a new skill, or working at a job.二、完形填空University Can WaitI was on my way to the library to do some studying for history class. That’s when I saw my friend and her family ______ on doors. As I was standing __________ one house,my friend’s brother walked past me and went to the door of the house. When the resident _________,I heard him say,“Excuse me,I am __________ money for mymom. She needs to have ________ but we don’t have enough money.C ould you please _________ with a donation?”The lady gave him some _________ and he said,“Thank you so much!God bless you.” Then he walked on to the next house.I could see he didn’t have much and I also saw he had been ______.__________ going to the library,I went to the bank.I told her I wanted to ________ all my savings. The lady in the bank said to me,“But,sweetie,I thought you were going to use that money to go to _______.” I told her something else _________ so she gave me the money. Then I walked to my friend’s house. They had only raised nine hundred and sixty-two dollars, which wasn’t __________ a quarter of what they needed.I told my friend to __________my money. When she saw it she __________ straight away it was my university money. The idea of going to university had been a very __________ one for me—_______I got accepted—but she needed the money more than I did.It was this ______ of money that could save her mother’s life.I hope all goes well for her and her family. My love and ______ go out to them.Leo Tolstoy once said,“Nothing can make our life,or the lives of other people, more beautiful than permanent ______.”【1】A.meeting B.waiting C.knocking D.quarreling【2】A.inside B.above C.behind D.outside【3】A.replied B.understood C.closed D.answered【4】A.raising B.accumulating C.increasing D.making【5】A.health B.surgery C.examination D.break【6】A.provide B.help C.deal D.compete【7】A.advice B.medicine C.coins D.food【8】A.laughing B.running C.thinking D.crying【9】A.Instead of B.Regardless of C.Other than D.Except for【10】A.deposit B.donate C.withdraw D.collect【11】A.university B.company C.theatre D.work【12】A.held up B.came up C.put up D.took up【13】A.even B.already C.still D.ever【14】A.return B.consider C.take D.pay【15】A.received B.refused C.realized D.admitted【16】A.disappointing B.depressing C.appealing D.realistic【17】A.assessing B.advocating C.appointing D.assuming【18】A.kind B.item C.share D.sum【19】A.imagination B.prayers C.ideas D.stories【20】A.honesty B.kindness C.responsibility D.courage三、其他When I packed up my life and moved from the comforts of my little hometown to Waco, I remember feeling 【1】(lose). The back-to-back announcements highlight how one of America’s largest employers is rethinking its coronavirus policies in the face of rising infections linked to the Delta variant.“In response to the concerning spread of Covid-19 variants in the US and guidance from public health authorities and our own medical experts, we are requiring face coverings indoors regardless of vaccination status,”said Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokesperson, in a statement to CNN Business. We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to follow local government guidance and work closely with leading medical healthcare professionals, gathering their advice and recommendations as we go forward to ensure our buildings are optimized for the safety of our teams,” Nantel said.A growing number of big companies have shifted their policies for corporate and frontline workers as the pandemic has worsened, in some cases requiring vaccinations. But for now, Amazon does not appear to be taking that step: Nantel declined to comment on whether the company is considering a vaccine mandate.Amazon (AMZN) had relaxed its mask requirement on May 24 for fully vaccinated US warehouse workers, at least in areas where local regulations did not continue to require them. But Harvard professor of psychology Line Daniel Wegner’s recent research proves that websites and the Internet are changing much more than technology itself. They are changing the way our memories function. Wegner’s latest study shows that when people have access to search engines, they remember fewer facts and less information because they know they can rely on “search” as a readily available shortcut.Wegner believes the new findings show that the Internet has become part of a transactive memory source, a method by which our brains divide information, which means you don’t have to remember everything in the world yourself. You just have to remember who knows it. Now computers and technology are becoming virtual extensions of our memory.Wegner conducted several experiments to demonstrate the phenomenon, using various forms of memory recall to test reliance on computers. In one experiment, participants demonstrated that they were more likely to think of computer terms like “Yahoo” or “Google” after being asked a set of difficult trivia questions. In another experiment, participants typed some statements into a computer and they were told the statements would be saved in specific folders. Next, they were asked to recall the statements. Finally, they were given cues to the wording and asked to name the folders where the statements were stored. The participants proved better able to recall the folder locations than the statements themselves.Wegner admits that questions remain about whether dependence on computers will affect memories negatively:“Nobody knows now what the effects of these tools are on logical thinking.” Students who have trouble remembering distinct facts, for example, may struggle to employ those facts in critical thinking. But he believes that the situation overall is beneficial, comparing dependence on computers to dependence on a mechanical hand or other prosthetic device. And even though we may not be using our memories to recall distinct facts, we are still using them to consider where the facts are located and how to access them. “We still have to remember things,” Wegner explains. “We’re just remembering a different range of things.” He believes his study will lead to further research into understanding computer dependence, and looks forward to tracing the extent of human interdependence with the computer world — pinpointing the “movable dividing line between us and our computers in cyber networks.”12.From the experiment ,when asked to provide facts that are not familiar to them, people tend to ________.A.think of specific information sourcesB.type into computer and remember themC.recall them from their deep memoriesD.link the unfamiliar facts to their experiences13.Which one can be an an example of the transactive memory?A.An actor organizes today’s schedule with his agent.B.A student asks his teacher for today’s homework.C.A husband relies on his wife to remember a relative’s birthdayD.A boss asks the staff about the performance of the previous month.14.Which of the following can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.Computer dependence affects our thinking capacities in other distinct fields.B.Reliance on computers does not necessarily reduce human memory.C.Computers have helped people to understand the memory system better.D.Researches should be done to reveal the side effect of computer dependence.15.Which of the following can serve as the best title?A.Wegner’s Research Has Pinpointed The Dividing LineB.Technological Networks Reshaping Our Brain FunctionsC.Human’s Memory Capability Becoming Inevitably WeakerD.Heavy Reliance On Computer For Storing More Information第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
