2. NBA
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the number one basketball league in the world. There are 30 teams in major cities in the United States and Canada. The NBA began in 1946, when it was called the Basketball Association of America (BAA). It changed its name to the National Basketball Association in 1949 when several teams joined the BAA from the rival National Basketball League (NBL). Several universities have top-class amateur basketball teams, and talented players often turn professional as soon as they finish their studies.
