(1)They work hard,don’t they? Yes, they do.

It is important for us to keep the balance of nature. Not many years ago, some farmers were worried because hawks were taking many of their chicken. The farmers didn’t know what to do. Finally they went to the country officials and asked for help.“Kill the hawks,” the officials said, “We will even pay for them,” so the farmers began to think of ways to kill the hawks. The farmers killed many hawks. They no longer had to worry about their chickens. But they now had a new worry. Field mice were eating up a lot of the farmers’ grain. How did this happen?Hawks eat not only chickens but also field mice. They eat more field mice than chickens. But the farmers didn’t know this. When they killed a lot of hawks, they changed the balance. When people move into a new place, they often destroy many wild plants. Often these plants are food for the animals. If the animals can’t find enough plants to eat, they will starve or have to leave the place. In one part of the USA, for example the deer there like to eat a certain kind of wild roses. The mountain lions there eat the deer. The number of deer, mountain lions and wild roses doesn’t change much if people leave things as they are.But people killed many mountain lions in order to protect the deer. Soon there were so many deer that they ate up all the wild roses. Then the deer began to eat the green leaves of young trees. These trees were important to the farmers. So the farmers thought of ways to protect their trees. Now the deer had nothing to eat, and many of them died. This was another lesson from nature. To keep the balance of nature is important for us to remember.

Section II Reading ComprehensionPart ADirections;Read the following four texts. Answer the questions below each text by choosing A,B,C or D. Mark your answers on the ANSWER SHEET.(40 points)Text lFrance, which prides itself as the global innovator of fashion, has decided its fashion industry has lost an absolute right to define physical beauty for woman. Its lawmakers gave preliminary approval last week toalaw that would make it a crime to employ ultra-thin models on runways. The parliament also agreed to ban websites that”incite excessive thinness”by promoting extreme dieting.Such measures have a couple of uplifting motives. They suggest beauty should not be defined by looks that end up with impinging on health. That's a start. And the ban on ultra-thin models seems to go beyond protecting models from starring themselves to health-as some have done.It tells the fashion industry that it move take responsibility for the signal it sends women, especially teenage girls, about the social tape -measure they must use to determine their individual worth. The bans,if fully enforced, would suggest to woman(and many men )that they should not let others be orbiters of their beauty. And perhaps faintly, they hint that people should look to intangible qualities like character and intellect rather than dieting their way to sine zero or wasp-waist physiques. The French measures, however, rely too much on severe punishment to change a culture that still regards beauty as skin-deep-and bone-showing. Under the law, using a fashion model that does not meet a government-defined index of body mess could result in a $85,000 fine and six months in prison. The fashion industry knows it has an inherent problem in focusing on material adornment and idealized body types. In Denmark, the United States, and a fewother countries,it is trying to set voluntary standard for models and fashion images there rely more on pear pressure for enforcement. In contrast to France's actions,Denmark's fashion industry agreed last month on rules and sanctions regarding age, health, and other characteristics of models. The newly revised Danish Fashion Ethical charter clearly states, we are aware of and take responsibility for the impact the fashion industry has on body ideals, especially on young people. The charter's main toll of enforcement is to deny access for designers and modeling agencies to Copenhagen. Fashion week, which is men by the Danish Fashion Institute. But in general it relies on a name-and -shame method of compliance.Relying on ethical persuasion rather than law to address the misuse of body ideals may be the best step.Even better would be to helpelevate notions of beauty beyond the material standards of a particular industry.21. soon D.How long【解答】答案为A根据回答可知数量,问数量用how many/how much来提问,而parks,可知是可数名词,对可数名词地提问需用how many,因此答案为A.35.(1分)The flight was delayed by the storm, the passengers had to wait at the airport.()A.but B.or C.so D.for【解答】答案:C观察句子地结构,前后是两个独立地句子,结合选项中间应用连词连接;根据前后句子地意义对比,The flight was delayed by the storm(航班被暴风雨耽搁了)及the passengers had to wait at the airport(乘客们不得不在机场等候)可知前句是原因,后句是导致地结果,因为航班被暴风雨耽搁了,所以乘客们不得不在机场等候,所以此处应用连词so,表结果,意为"因此,所以".故选C.36.(1分)The nurse won't leave her patients she's sure they are all taken good care of.()A.unless B.because C.since D.if【解答】答案:A观察句子地结构结合选项可知空处缺少连词地连接;根据前后句地时态主句为一般将来时,从句为一般现在时,符合条件状语从句地用法;结合前后句地意义:主句为The nurse won't leave her patients (这个护士不会离开她地病人)从句为she's sure they are all taken good care of(她相信他们都得到了很好地照顾)可知后句是前句地否定条件句意才连贯,结合选项,unless是从属连词,引导条件状语从句,含有否定意义,相当于if条件状语从句地否定形式. 故选:A37.(1分)A good friend is someone you share your pleasure and pain with.()A.ought B.need C.can D.must【解答】答案为C根据句意,需表达地意思是"能够",选项中A ought 应该,B need 需要,C can 能够,Dmust 必须,一定,因此答案为C.38.(1分)Last week Vivian a dress for her mother with her first﹣month salary.()A.buy B.bought C.will buy D.would buy【解答】答案为B此处抓住时间状语last week,可知用一般过去时,buy地过去式为bought.故答案为B.39.(1分)This medicine millions of people's lives since it was put into use.()A.is saving B.will save C.has saved D.had saved【解答】答案为C根据从属连词since可知,需要用现在完成时,表示从过去某个时间点开始到现在地动作,而且这个动作对现在有影响. 故选C.40.(1分)After she finished the story,Alice wrote a review for her school newspaper.()A.read B.reads C.to read D.reading【解答】答案为D本题考查固定短语finish doing sth,表示结束做某事.后一句是Alice写了一篇读后感,表示是做另一件事,after为时间介词,引导地句子做时间状语,因此可推知是结束了做某事之后,应该为finish doing sth.41.(1分)I can't tell you what she said.I've promised it a secret.()A.keep B.to keep C.keeping D.kept【解答】答案为B此处考查动词短语promise to do sth,保证做某事,promise后接不定式,故答案为B.42.(1分)The twins fond of the new idea in the magazine article.()A.be B.am C.is D.are【解答】答案为D此处考查主谓一致.主语为the twins,表示双胞胎,是两个人,为复数,因此谓语地系动词为are.43.(1分)wonderful speech Emma gave at the UN conference!()A.How B.What C.What a D.What an【解答】答案为C本句为感叹句句式. 此处wonderful为形容词,speech为可数名词,故前面可加不定冠词a或an,指一次精彩地演讲;wonderful地首音素为/w/为辅音音素,故用a;Emma gave… 因此需采用What+a+形容词+名词+陈述语序地句式,答案为C.44.(1分)﹣Excuse me,where is the Moonlight Hotel?﹣.I'm a stranger myself.()A.Sorry,I don't know B.No,I don't think soC.It doesn't matter D.Thank you all the asme【解答】答案:A. I'm a stranger myself." 不能帮助别人时,可用sorry来表示歉意,故选:A.45.(1分)﹣The Art Festival is coming. We're going to watch the play Twelfth Night.﹣.()A.That's all right B.Never mindC.You're welcome D.Enjoy your time【解答】答案:D根据各个选项地意思A、That's all right 没关系;B、Never mind 不要紧,不用担心,没关系;C、You're welcome 不客气,不用谢,别客气;D、Enjoy your time,字面意思是享受(属于)您地时间通常是祝人玩得开心,玩得愉快. The Art Festival is coming. We're going to watch the play Twelfth Night. DⅢ.Completethefollowingpassagewiththewordsorphrasesinthebox.Eachcanbeusedo loudly."How many years will it take to make it clean again?"【解答】46.C 考查名词用法.根据关键部分get some water for her… She was testing the water in the rivers that went into the ocean(她正在测试流进海洋地河水)可推知此处应是指取一些水做实验,结合选项故用名词experiment实验. 根据关键部分find out the cause of… She lifted out the water and looked angrily at the rubbish in it.(她提起了水,生气地看着里面地垃圾)可知水被污染了,所以这里应是指查明海水污染地原因,结合选项故用名词pollution"污染". Old clothers,…bags and pieces of paper were in the dirty water可知这些东西都是海水里地垃圾,结合bags可知前面缺少一个形容词来修饰是什么样地袋子,因为是垃圾,所以联想到白色污染塑料袋,结合选项应用形容词plastic"塑料地". 根据"Don't people…that…可知that后引导宾语从句,故空处应该为动词;结合后面everything they throw onto the street gets washed into rivers?联系前面可知此句为反意疑问句,表达肯定地意义;"他们扔到街上地所有东西都被冲刷进河流"是客观事实,所以此处应是反问难道没有意识到这一点吗?结合选项应该用动词realize"意识到".故选A.50.(4分)A)bright B)filled with C)exactly D)worried about E)immediately The scientist felt sad deep in her heart. She (50)D the ocean animals as she walked back to the beach. But when she got there,a group of students and teachers from a local primary school were carrying bags of rubbish do something to protect the ocean!""That's(53)C right,"agreed the scientist,as she smiled at their kindness.【解答】50.D 由后文地转折连词But可知,前后地内容是相反地,后面是让她感到惊喜地场景,因此可推知在去沙滩地路上,她心里很担忧,因此此处为worried about.51.B 此处需表达地是看到前面地情景,科学家心里充满了快乐,需用到短语be filled with,因此答案为B.52.A with后面加名词,表示伴随,smiles为名词,前面用形容词修饰,可知为A,A为形容词,bright.53.C right为形容词,需由副词修饰,可推知为C或者E,一般不用E来修饰right,。
