AListening to music is considered a good thing for adults.Indeed it is.Scientific studies have proved it。

Music has so many good effects on our body, mind and mood that this world will certainly not be a good place without music。

Then,is music good for children? Some parents think so and let their children learn or listen to music. But some parents don't know the importance of music to children。

Here are some reasons why music is important to children.First, music is good for children's intelligence。

Studies have proved that children who learn music are likely to have higher intelligence than those who have no interest in or dislike music。

This is because the brain gets stimulated (刺激) by the rhythm and tone of music。

Music also has soothing (抚慰的) effect on children and helps remove their stress.Today’s children are under a lot of stress from schoolwork。

AAs globalization continues to make the world a smaller place, and goods become more accessible across borders, concerns about food safety in the Asia Pacific region have steadily risen over the years. An APEC forum is being held in Beijing,to find ways to better address the problem.156 participants from 19 APEC economies and 4 nonAPEC members attended the APEC Food Safety Cooperation Forum, which has been actively looking for ways to strengthen food safety standard in the region, without affecting trade.“As consumers are faced with more varieties of food, the potential food safety risk also becomes bigger. This forum has helped APEC economies to cooperate in supervision (监督),exchange information, and improve the overall food safety standard in the AsiaPacific region,” said director of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision Wu Qinghai. For the first time the forum has brought together highlevel regulators, academics, and industry stakeholders to talk about their respective roles in safety supervision. They say governments alone cannot shoulder this heavy duty.In China, the continuous food safety problems have greatly hurt consumers' confidence in domestic products;therefore more turned to imports. However, problems related to quality of those imported goods also began to show.In July this year, more than 400 batches (批) of food imported from 35 countries and regions were found substandard by the country's top quality supervisor.Governments and industries have been brought closer by this forum. As food moves more freely beyond borders, this forum is hoped to promote safety control cooperation,so APEC members can better benefit from the economic integration(经济一体化).【语篇解读】通过APEC论坛,各国之间将更加密切地合作,食品安全问题将得到更有效的监管和处理,各成员国都会从中受益。

But it has led to all kinds of trouble—as it did once again this month, when the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology was awarded to a dead man.It is a complex story, one that could not have been foreseen when Nobel, the Swedish inventor, died in 1896。

But it all traces back to his will, written at a time when international prizes were an original idea。

Nobel did not say why he wanted to reward scientists who “made the most important discovery” during the previous year。

One can guess that he wanted to reward presentday innovation and not to give tombstone awards to Galileo,Hippocrates, and other scientists from centuries past。

But will and science often got involved。

Not only do they get to see a world beyond their neighborhood, but they get to experience it, feel it, taste it, hear it and better understand the world around them。

After nearly four decades in the classroom and traveling the world, Phyllis Duvall Bailey knew this perhaps better than anyone else.Becoming engaged in the work in AKA Sorority Inc. in the US, she worked to educate children on the United Nations。

There was no doubt in Bailey's mind that the lessons would mean so much more if the students could see these things for themselves。

Starting in 2015, Bailey, 82, set out to take her students to the UN headquarters in New York City to give them a “Window Seat to the World",and thus transformed them into global citizens.Indeed, it is a great opportunity to give students national and international exposure。

Gamma delta T cells are part of the body's defense.First, the researchers mixed some of these cells with antigens (抗原) found in the amino acid. Antigens help the body react to infection。

Then the scientists added some bacteria. Within twenty.four hours, the cells produced a lot of interferon (干扰素), a substance that fights infection. Cells not mixed with the antigens did not produce interferon。

]BA British friend told me he couldn't understand why Chinese people love eating sunflower seeds(嗑瓜子) as a snack so much.“I've met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth;I believe that's from cracking the seeds,” he said.I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware.I realized that whenever I'm watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn't like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so much just to get one small seed. When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go doortodoor on Chinese New Year's Eve to check out what every household was making.I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking.Out in the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with fancy tablecloth, readymade dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds. Some of the dishes were to be offered to our ancestors later, while others were for neighbors and children to eat before the evening feast.I must have learned how to crack sunflower seeds back then.I don't think it's right to criticize one's choice in food or eating habits, no matter how strange they may seem. It's not only in China. When I went abroad, I found people had all sorts of strange habits when it came to food.In Denmark, they put salted red fish on bread and eat it for dinner, no matter how much it ruins your breath.Theythink it's a delicacy(美味佳肴), and it's connected to their certain culture.I think it's a wonderful tradition.【语篇解读】本文用中国人喜欢嗑瓜子和丹麦人喜欢吃面包配咸红鱼来证明饮食习惯来自特定的文化。
