学位英语模拟卷太阳能文章
In recent years, solar energy, as an important renewable energy, has developed rapidly, and the global photovoltaic industry has further expanded its growth space. However, originally regarded as green energy, solar energy in the process of development, has encountered more and more strong doubts about environmental protection.
Take the American Nevada Baytburn solar power project as an example to point out the environmental protection paradox in the development of solar energy.
With a total capacity of 850 megawatts and a total investment of about $1 billion, the Betterburn solar project is the largest photovoltaic project in Nevada, with solar panels covering 14 square miles, the equivalent of 7,000 American football fields.
The surrounding community is furious that the site will not be able to be used for anything else because of the project and the installation of a large number of solar panels. On the one hand, community activists worry that solar farms will damage the land and
affect the ecosystem. On the other hand, massive solar panel installations have completely destroyed the landscape of the west's unique terraced landscape, which is attractive in its vastness and desolation.
In particular, earlier this year two climate researchers, Zhengyao Lu of Lund University in Sweden and Benjamin Smith of the University of Western Sydney in Australia, pointed out that solar power plants have serious problems generating heat and affecting the environment.
Solar panels currently convert 15 to 20 percent of the sun's energy into electricity, while the rest is released into the environment as heat, the researchers noted.
Environmentalists have proposed covering the Entire Sahara desert with solar panels to generate electricity, but Lu and Smith used computer models to find that the heat generated would alter earth's air currents and even ocean currents, ultimately leading to a rise in global temperatures, which would have a greater impact on the polar regions.
In this regard, the large-scale construction of solar power
stations and artificial changes to the regional and global natural ecology are not only not environmentally friendly, but also will bring huge environmental risks and even ecological disasters.
In addition, the solar industry faces the challenge of rising costs. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the global supply chain has been severely impacted, and the photovoltaic industry is no exception. After more than a decade of mostly declining raw material costs for solar panels, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have reversed that trend, with raw material costs bottoming out and rising in reverse.。
